Jacques was determined to keep his mouth shut from now on. Even though he longed to wipe the smirk off the Gryffindor's face and tell that Neva girl to zip it, he resisted.

Instead, he concentrated on flicking his wand in the motion the professor was showing them.

Maya shrunk into her seat and flicked the wand, just the way the professor was doing it. She flicked it and heaved a sigh, doodling on her piece of parchment.

Bucky had to stop mid-flick. This was far too interesting to miss by practicing flicking, besides, her wrist was hurting her already. Bucky placed her arm on the desk, wand still at hand and rested her forehead on it, hiding her face from everyone in the class, including Hepzibah. Her shoulders heaved with laughter and she looked up briefly to see Hepzibah patting Jeremiah's head. Her laughter calming down, tears running down her cheek she quickly swatted them away before Hepzibah joined her once more and Bucky nodded, a broad smile decorating her small face.

"That's how you get rid of bad energy, no?" She commented to Hepzibah and once more resumed her flicking practice. "You're going to have to teach me how to do that in case he decides to choke during another class too."

Kerry tried to ignore all the chatter around her. She did not want to see Gryffindor lose any more points. So she finished jotting down the last of her notes, and then took out her wand.

Flicking the wand she couldn't help but think about the incantation "lumos" in her head as she did. Kerry did a double take, she could have sworn she saw the end of her wand flicker just a bit. Kerry shook her head, "it can't be, I didn't even say the word," she thought to herself, as she continued practicing the proper wand movements.

Liu-Xue sat silently in the back of the class, watching his classmates talk, argue with the professors, and practice the spell, with a glazed look on his face. Lazily reaching for his quill he scratched out a note on a small piece of parchment, then folded it up into what was supposed to look like some sort of bird. Glancing around to make sure he wasn't being watched by one of the teachers, he took out his wand and muttered a spell under his breath, causeing the folded bird to slowly float between students and lightly hit rosalie on the back of the head.

Kerry shook her head as she watched the paper bird fly past her. "See, this is exactly why people are losing points for their houses," she thought to herself, "I mean how can the professor not notice this," she thought.
Kerry put her head down and just continued practicing the task at hand, practicing her wand movements.

Feeling something hit her in the back of the head, Rosalie turned to find a note floating in the air. She quickly grabbed it, and read it. Neva, she thought grumpily, but didn't speak, or write back. She turned around, and mouthed 'after class', to Liu, then turned back to her puddle of water.

She picked up the parchment she had started on fire, and set it aside, then looked around for something she could soak it up with. Her eyes fell on an older student, Jacques.

"Excuse me, Jacques, I know we shouldn't be talking, but I need help. I accidentally set my parchment on fire, and now I can't get rid of all of this water. Do you know a spell?" She asked him.

Brandon noticed the girl asking about the water and he picked up his wand. "Scourgify," he said pointing at the water. The water vanished.

Alanna was repeatedly flicking her wand, resisting the urge to say the incantation at the same time. She already knew the charm, but practice never hurt anyone.

She had never been in a class where so many points were lost, and Alanna was ready to explode with all of the problems. The girl insulting a visitor, the boy choking...how was she supposed to survive this? It was crazy. Personally, she liked Professor Hart. She wasn't so sure about her charms professor.

Wrist aching, Alanna took a break from her flicking and relaxed a little. She stayed alert, however: she didn't want anything to happen to her while she was unprepared.

Caitlin looked around nervously. A loud class was always distracting and her classmates made her feel like her brain was melting. She continuously practiced the flicking motion, trying not to focus on anything else.

She smiled appreciatively at the boy who helped her out, then focused on the persistent flicking once more.

This was getting dull to her. No challenge. Now getting Neva to shut up, there is a challenge! Gritting her teeth, she fixed her grip on her wand, flick, flick, flick.

Jacques watched as the girl managed to set her parchment on fire. When she asked him for help he shook his head and made the 'zip lips' gesture and pointed to the professor. He wasn't talking for anything.


Jacques had to hold in a laugh as a boy used scourgify to get rid of the water. The correct spell of course would have been the draught charm, but the boy was a Gryffindor after all so not much could be expected of him.

OOC: we're not practising the incantation, just the wand movement.

Brandon saw a boy looking like he was holding back laughter in his direction and he thought he knew why. Of course I know the draught charm could work there but scourgify works just as well, he thought.

Caitlin tried not to get distracted by the boy putting out the fire with a cleansing spell. She couldn't help but to snort a little. She returned to the flicking movement, wondering why so many people were complaning about it. Quite frankly, she wished all teachers would go over the basics in the beginning of each year - how are you supposed to get any better when your basics are rusty?

She sighed, turned her eyes away from everyone esle, and began waving her wand about again.

Sasuka tried to make the wans motion with her hand, looking aroudn the room to make sure she was doing it right. oh im no good at this she thinks but shes afraid to ask any one questiong for fear of losing points so she just continues practicing.

Vick could do the spell at her first "try", the truth was that she knew it cause charms was her favourite subject and she had been practicing before so she asked Sasuka who was closer to her.. "do u need help" in a low voice so that only she would hear her without disturbing the others

"Yea i could use some" she whispers back. "im afraid im not very good, but then again its my first charms class ever so, i hope ill get better" she says just as quietly.

After trying a few times Sasuka managed to do the spell "see? it was the way u were moving your wrist" she said smiling kindly at her and then she almost whispered "i have to go back to my sit i dont want the professor to take points off my house again.."

Dis held her wand in her right hand and flicked it. The tip erupted in a stream of light that seemed to startle some but she wasn't surprised by it. She was in her sixth year and had already studied wordless spell-casting. Considering lumos was such a simple spell, it was no surprise that she was able to make the light appear. It was trying to make the light not appear that was difficult. As she was flighting her want, she tryied thinking of other things. Eventually, she was able to flick her wand and have nothing happen, after some dim attempts from the light to erupt again.

She looked around at the others in the class. SHe was angry from having one of her own have so many points taken away from Slytherin. They were so far behind Gryffindor and Ravenclaw was a homework assignment away from catching up. Didn't they realize they had to keep on their toes? Constant vigilence. Who was it that said that again?

"Good, and well done so far. Before we moved on, I would like the Slytherins to know that since Neva earned herself a trip to the Headmistress, I'll forgo all the points I deducted for her behavior, except for 5. Some students don't care whether their house wins or loses the Cup. Another point for the record, if you care to look at the Slytherin House Registration Book, I believe I signed it the year I entered Hogwarts and the year I finished at the end of my term as Head Boy. Perhaps you failed to recognize that I wore a Slytherin cloak to the opening feast." Tolkien stated before preparing to move forward with the lesson.

"Now, combine the command word and the wand movement. Please practice the spell five times. After that I think we'll move to a more advanced spell."

Trelane flicked his wand. "Lumos." Nothing happened. He took a deep breath and did it once more. "Lumos." This time the tip of his wand lit up. He jumped a bit in surprise, dropping his wand. Realizing what happened he blushed and picked his wand back up.

After having Vick show her the correct way to do the wand movement, she tryed using the words. "lumos" she said. surprised that it worked the first time. she give sherself a little smile as she does it four more times as the teacher said, to make sure she had it right and it wasn;t jsut a strike of luck.

Jesse bit his lip as hard as he could. He was preventing himself from saying anything. He had a feeling if one word came out of his mouth, he'd be done for. And considering what happened to the other Slytherin girl, he didn't have that many doubts in his mind about his punishments. Even though he probably had a lot to say at that moment, he merely swallowed his words and continued with his work.

"Lumos," he said a shaky voice, which was the result of him trying not to say what was on his mind. He added a quick flick after that. Nothing happened. He wasn't surprised. He didn't quite say it too clear. "Lumos," he said a bit more clearly before giving the wand another flick. The wand lit up and he smiled at the fact that he got it right. After that time, he kept doing it over and over.

MJ listen to what the professor as he spoke about the house points situation. She remembered the opening feast. He did wear a Slytherin cloak she thought to herself. MJ did as she was told she combined the command word and the wand movement. She did it many times until she finally got it. "I did it." She whispered to herslef. She had finally succeded in doing something right.

Chloe sighed. She felt bad for losing her house points, even if it was only five. She decided to keep quiet and apologize later. She wanted to give Neva a talking to as well, but decided to save it for perhaps the common room.
'Actually, I'll just let it go,' she thought to herself as she flicked her wand in a very bored manner, saying "Lumos" over and over again. After she had lit her wand about six or seven times, she set it down in front of her and waited for the lesson to move on to things she didn't know.
'They shouldn't accuse the Professor of favoritism. Neva had it coming to her,' she thought when nothing else crossed her mind. 'No, I'm letting that go. Dang it Chloe. Listen to your thoughts for once.'
