| | |  Charms: Lesson #1
The classroom is divided into two sections. One is a large area in which you will practice more advanced charms and the second is two banks of bench desks that face each other. The practice area is lined with cabinets and shelves. You see cushions, books, and other objects that are used in the course of mastering Charms for the OWL and NEWT exams. The desks look as old as Hogwarts and they are. You are standing in the very first classroom of this school. It is old and there is power that lingers in this space from every student who has entered here. The wood of the desks bear many scuffs, pits, even cravings. There are hole to hold your ink wells and a slot to lay down your quill.
You stop and look down the aisle the desks form to see the new Charms Professor. His robe and cloak are deep navy. He is seated at the ancient teacher's desk, his head bent over books and parchments. He looks up and see you, then he stands. He is a very tall wizard and he turns to write on the board behind his desk. You realize he is almost ready to begin and quickly take a seat. "LUMOS!" Hepzibah chanted enthusiastically. She knew this spell and could do it. In fact she was so excited about knowing something that she fell off her chair, "Oppsie daisy!" She regained herself and sat back down pretending nothing happened. She kept falling in this school.

Serena shot a glare towards the Gryffindors. How hard was it to grasp the concept that this was a class? Leave the talking for after the lesson.
Still fuming, she turned back towards the teacher with a tight smile. "Lumos." She repeated. The spell was rather simple and he was correct. Most should be able to perform the spell on their first try. It was, after all, a very basic spell.

Bucky winced when Professor Tolkien took 10 points away from Gryffindor. Muttering obscenities under her breath, so only her ears and maybe Hepzibah's could hear, Celestina scribbled a threatening note on her piece of parchment before scratching it out. No need to have someone find out how she was planning someone's death.
"Lumos," she muttered between gritted teeth, completely oblivious to the enthusiastic person falling beside her.

"Lumos," muttered Jeremiah softly, and watched as his wand ignited to procure a small, yellow light bobbing on the wand tip.
He watched it with a bored expression. He had learned this at Durmstrang a long time ago.
Then he heard the strange witch who was visiting their school attempt the spell - very loudly. He turned to watch her rather than the light on his wand, and saw, surprisingly, Bucky sitting beside her. Jeremiah raised his eyebrows as 10 points were taken from Gryffindor of her fault, and watched her angrily cast the lumos spell.
Finally, he turned around, to notice they were supposed to just practicing the wrist movement. Jeremiah put out his wand and flicked his arm carelessly in the air, completely relaxed. Again and again he did it, until he bored of this also. | |

Emily was elated. I can't believe I earned my house some points! She completely understood that the Professor's attention was directed elsewhere, as it should have been. Although, he could pay more attention to the annoying lady from Salem....
She practiced the flicking motion and thought it felt very natural. She couldn't wait to use the words now.

Brittany chanted "Lumos" with the rest of the class. She, had of course already learned this spell so Britt wasn't much concerned.
Then, doing as the teacher instructed she picked up her wind and twirled it (although the twirling was for her benifit) then Brittany carefully watched the teacher.
