| | |  Charms: Lesson #1
The classroom is divided into two sections. One is a large area in which you will practice more advanced charms and the second is two banks of bench desks that face each other. The practice area is lined with cabinets and shelves. You see cushions, books, and other objects that are used in the course of mastering Charms for the OWL and NEWT exams. The desks look as old as Hogwarts and they are. You are standing in the very first classroom of this school. It is old and there is power that lingers in this space from every student who has entered here. The wood of the desks bear many scuffs, pits, even cravings. There are hole to hold your ink wells and a slot to lay down your quill.
You stop and look down the aisle the desks form to see the new Charms Professor. His robe and cloak are deep navy. He is seated at the ancient teacher's desk, his head bent over books and parchments. He looks up and see you, then he stands. He is a very tall wizard and he turns to write on the board behind his desk. You realize he is almost ready to begin and quickly take a seat. Katie quickly started scratching notes into her parchment. She was a better learner if she listened to what other people were saying then trying to think of an answer herself. She kicked her feet back and forth under her desk, her legs being short enough to allow this.

Brandon raised his hand again. "DADA is used to combat or defend against creatures or dark wizards or any type of enemy really and again charms only manipulates objects. However some charms can be used to impede or stop an enemy from attacking."

Sini heard another question and her hand shot into the air, "Charms can be used for protection, making objects do things to protect yourself, but defense against the dark arts is the study of ways that only relate to defense, where as charms can be used for daily things, such as cleaning dishes. I would tend to think that Charms is more practical." | |

A nearby cupboard door opened and out walked Hepzibah Hart, one of the Salem visitors. "Oh! I do apologise! I was on the fourth floor and went through this door and found some stairs and found a way into your cupboard, it appears."
She had actually been having a nosey in the cupboard, but didn't realise a class was about to begin through her observations. "Oh! Your that Tolkein man! An ex Triwizard winner! Imagine that!"
Hepzibah walked over to him and patted him gently on the head as if to say 'well done'. "Mind if I join you all?" She asked, placing her backside on a seat next to a Gryffindor called... Lucky as it said on her parchment, "Hello Lucky, i'm Hepzibah! Pleasure." | |

Bucky was just lowering her hand when an unexpected visitor appeared from the cupboard nonetheless. Frowning slightly she shook her head, auburn hair moving about. Things were always odd at Hogwarts.
Her eyes widened when she discovered Tolkien was an ex TriWizard winner. From what she had heard that competition was pretty tough, of course, she didn't know much about it. She would have to ask Jen later.
"Bucky," she corrected making room for the visitor. "My name is Bucky. It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Hepsibah? Miss is it?" Why she had never been so uncomfortable in her life aside from that Jeremiah incident.

Katie was so into her note taking she about jumped out of her seat when the cupboard door flew open. "Whata ...eeeep!" Katie bit her lip and tried to steady her breathing. She looked at the intruder with narrowed eyes and she muttered to herself while trying to finish her notes. There were ink spots all over the parchment and at this rate she would have to recopy her notes once the class was over. Katie rolled her eyes at the womans antics and looked at the professor wondering how he would respond to this.

"All of you came very close to the having the correct reply but I think you did quite give a complete answer. So, I will award 1 point to all who replied. My definitions is this...DADA is the learning of skills to defend yourself from attacks from others be they, muggles, wizard, witch or creature, or to attack others. We do not teach Dark Arts magic but in DADA you learn a wide variety of spells that can be use to defend, attack, or counterattack. Charms can be one element of DADA just as Transfiguration can. The definition of Charms does not change. It is learning how to enchants an item to do what you want it to do."
