The back of the door you open looks scarred, as if someone has been shooting spells at it. Indeed, now that you look closer, the scratches actually spell out something.

Close the Door.

How bizzare...?!

The words suddenly flame a bright liquid yellow, and the door yanks itself out of your frozen grasp and slams itself shut. The women sitting at the desk barely looks up at the bang. She appears to be writing something slowly, and deliberately, and you wait while the quiet, but somehow menacing scritch-scritch of the quill goes on.

Meanwhile, you take the oppurtunity to look around the room. There are a few pictures lying around the place, soft, swirling, bright splashes of color that could mean anything - a tree, a flower, a cloud, but mostly the wall is plastered with bookshelves, and they in turn, are stuffed with books. A few of them look like they are trying to bite, but can only squirm instead, fastened with black leather bands. Most are more docile, and rather decorative, with smooth spines and delicately drawn words on the covers, in all shades of dark colors.

On top of the bookshelves are perched thin, golden shining things, some bear resemblance to astrolabes, others look a little like windchimes. A few hang from the ceiling, and one particular one is hung over with delicate beads - of crystal or plastic, you can't quite tell. Between them, they catch the light of the room and toss it, glint, glitter, glimmer, glisten, gleam, about, creating provocative shadows and sudden bursts of scintillating light.

But professor doesn't look like the sort of woman who would choose things like these. You look back at her, still writing. She's a lounging sort of creature, with very thick, very black hair that has been pulled back into a bun, though thick waves of it fall forward over her ears. Her skin has a yellow tint, or that might be the lighting. The teak desk she is writing on bears a nameplate. The words shine the same way the scratches on the door did.

Prof. Andi Mao-Macdougal Zizhen

She has long sweeping eyelashes, perhaps overmascara-ed, that brush her cheeks. When she finally pushes away the paper, and holds the quill between two of her fingers, like she's smoking (you suspect that she was just drawing lines on parchment, to prolong your discomfort) the quick look Professor Mao-Macdougal gives you is like ash falling off a cigarette.

She is definitely Chinese - or half Chinese, with eyes that are tilted upwards. She looks tall, but that's only because she holds herself tall and somehow manages to look down her nose on you when you're a head taller. Over the summer, Professor Mao-Macdougal has successfully kicked the smoking habit, though it has not noticeably sweetened her temper.

She leans forward on the table, her eyebrows barely going up in a minimal show of interest. "Yes?" Professor Mao-Macdougal says, quietly. "May I... help you?"

And there is something in her tone that threatens: this had better be good or nothing in the world is going to help you, except maybe those nice trained Healers at St. Mungo's.

Professor Opteryx chuckled warmly at both of the students. "Don't worry--I doubt Professor ZiZhen will do a repeat performance of today's class. I'm sure she's glad you believe in her usual teaching methods," he added, nodding to Andi before gesturing to a plate of cookies on her desk. "Cookie? It would be a shame to waste them all, they're prefectly fine."

"Thank you but no." She said to Professor Opteryx. "I'm on a strict diet." She informed him. "I don't exercise nearly as much as I use to, and will blimp out if I get in the habit of eating junk food."

It sounded ridiculus comming from a second year, but it was the truth. Her body was use to far more exercise than she was getting at Hogwarts. At home she had multiple dance classes each day. Two at least, on the slow days. On top of that there was practicing.

Taking a cookie,not the least bit concerned with his wieght,and from watching Professor "Op" eat them not worried about them being poisoned So what if i dont dance or play sports anymore ill be fine and taking a huge bite out of it he said still slighty upset at AMMZ inital cold reaction to his concern said "Yumm,just lovely"

Sighing heavily, Rosalie squeezed her eyes shut for a moment before opening them, and fixing her glance on the woman behind the desk, who had been silent since last she as addressed the second year in her office.

"Sorry Professor, I'm acting like a child today. I suppose I'm tired. I'm glad that your charade of being so cheery is over, and to have the much feared Andi Mao-Macdougal back.

"I only live strongly by the motto that it is better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for who you are not. At least that way you are being yourself. People are going to hate you no matter who you are." Rosalie rambled.

"But if that's all, I have a friend waiting for me. So may I be excused?" She wanted to know, now meeting her black eyes with her own pare of chocolate ones.

"Heh," said Andi with a little snort as the memories of the dropped jaws and the aghast faces hit her memory again. "Who said I altered my personality for the approval of others?" But of course, there was no way she could admit that she had done it as a rather vindictive joke on Opteryx and on the students. And that she had rather thoroughly enjoyed herself, though her throat was sore from all that cheerful stuff. Also, the dress itched. "If that's all, Ms. Hale, Mr. Nixon, you may leave. Good day to you."

She nodded, and pushed the plate of cookies towards Op. "Here, you can have the rest if you want. Go hand them out to your class or something."

"Goodbye" Thump said taking another cookie off the plate and sticking his tounge out at the Professor and leaving "glad to hear you will be returning to your normal self next class,ive just been dying to get back to "The real world. Tata" and he walked out of the class singing " Tralala"

Nodding her head, Rosalie bit her lip to keep from speaking some more. Silently she turned towards the door, stopping with her hand on the door frame.

"Again, I'm sorry Professor. I was out of hand." She admitted, eyes focused on the ground in front of herself. "Good Bye Professors." She concluded, and left the office.

With one hand balancing the plate of cookies and the other tipping his deerstalker hat at Andi as a farewell gesture, Opteryx left, closing the door behind him.

Tia nearly bumped into Thump as the door opened. She raised her eybrow, looking inquiringly at him, feeling rather worried about Professor Mao-macdougal. However dangerous she might get, she was Tia's favourite Professor, after all, and she could not bear to think of a cheery Andi Mao-Macdougal.

That would be too dangerous, even for her.

She leaned forward and knocked at the door, hoping that she was not responded by maniac laughter and wondering whether or not the Professor had discarded off her new personality. She had to praise the Professor's ability to attain new heights of horror everyday - As if that was ever humanely possible.

"Come in," snapped Andi, after just having sent Opteryx out with the cookies. She had just begun to brew some tea and the room was steamy sweet the the scent of it.

"I am," Tia snapped, louder than she had intended to. Oops - She hadn't meant the Professor to hear that tone. She came in, a stiff smile on her face as she breathed in the sweet scent lingering all around the office. "The new personality didn't suit you at all, Professor," she said politely. One look at the Professor's had told her that she had already done away with it. "Didn't you realize we all like you the way you are, Professor?" she asked, one eyrbow raised.

"Oh really? I wasn't aware, but then again, I didn't really care either way." She glanced at Tia. Of course no one realised that it was a joke, on Opteryx mainly. After all, she didn't do joking. Andi's lips twitched. She probably wasn't going to get the shocked faces out of her memory for a long time.

Her eyes focused properly on the girl, and she noticed that this student looked a lot like the other people who had bothered her repeatedly to: notice her, give points to Gryffindor and to help her breathe. "You again, Ms. Roy? Dear me. I only notice the good, the bad and the irritating. Probably not a good sign that I recognize you then. You do realize this isn't your home away from home?"

No one could have figured out that the Professor's words were not to Tia's taste - The look on her face wasn't one of anger, or distaste. She actually felt pity for Professor Mao-Macdougal. The poor woman had probably never known what attachment was. Or maybe she just didn't want to admit that she was attached to someone - Or someplace, at least. She shrugged and looked up at the Professor for a moment before replying.

"This is my home, Professor," she said slowly. "I don't have any other home to be away from, might I add that," she said, without the least trace of sadness. Who cared if she didn't have a place to live, despite both her parents living? She didn't, and she hated when anyone tried to sympathise with her. "It's your home too," she added. "I bet you are more attched to this place then you care to admit, Professor," she said quietly.

Andi's face twitched a little at the constipated (sentimental?) expression on the girl's face. "I'm sorry," she said, trying not to smile. "I wasn't talking about Hogwarts. I was talking about my office. Which, yes, come to think of that, I am rather attached to. I can't stand dirt and debris in it."

"Do you know what, Professor?" Tia asked quietly. "I can't stand dirt and debris in it, either." A smile played around her lips as she spoke, but it wasn't a smirk. There was something rather odd about it. "And I'm sure, since you like this palce so much, that you love it when students flock here," she added. Or are ordered to flock here, so you can deduct points for what you, yourself, cause in class,, a voice in her head further added, though she took care not to say that aloud.

"Oh, not particularly," said Andi airily as she studied the girl with a raised eyebrow, not entirely understanding what the girl wanted. She had been in this room many times before, often for trivial reasons. "I have quite a bit of work to do, so I don't like people randomly visiting unless they have a good reason. Which leads us to, what exactly do you want, Ms. Ray? I have something rather important to research."

"I just wanted to say that -" Tia stopped and shrugged suddenly. "That we all like you the way you are. I'm sure none of us want you to try to be sweeter, even if it is to horrify us," she said, not sure where this was going. She had just wanted to know why the Professor was struggling to attain better - or worse - levels of terror everyday.

Andi sighed, and rolled her eyes to the heavens. She had been through this before. "Yes, thank you, Ms. Roy," she said. "Very kind of you, I'm sure. Several people have told me this. Much obliged to them of course. Yes, I am aware of those who rather approved of the change, but what the hell. Is that all? Well then, thank you and good day to you."

Obviously she expected the girl to go out immediately. Her hand was inching towards the book on her desk already.

"My name is Miss Ray, not Roy, Professor," Tia said pointedly, refusing to budge, as if rooted to the spot. She did not speak again but just stood there, waiting for the Professor to answer. She didn't really care whether the Professor pronoucned her last name correctly or not, but still, it was best to get it right. And, besides, she didn't have any particular fondness for the name "Roy."

"Oh right, that," said Andi, settling down behind her desk. "Well, anyway, thank you Ms. Ray, and good day to you." She paused a moment, and then looked up, raising an eyebrow. "The door is over there. Navigate left, turn slightly right, take hold of knob, twist it, step out and there you go. Simple."

For some odd reason, Tia still did not budge. "I know where the door is, thank you Professor," she said politely, her arms folded across her chest as she looked at Professor Mao-Macdougal, still rooted to the spot. She should have navigated left, turned slightly right, taken hold of the knob, twisted it, stepped out and gone by now, but she did not.

"Then, might I inquire why you are still in my office?" asked Andi, as her bored expression gave way to a slightly irritated one. Her sensitive fingers played with the quill, and magical static sizzled a little as the sections of the feather curved to her hand.

Tia did not answer for a minute. "Why do you hate everyone so much, Professor?" she asked. Her voice came out quite steady, but there seemed to be an eerie touch to it. There was a dazed look in her eyes. "Why?" she repeated. There was something definitely wrong with her.

Andi rolled her eyes. Really, maybe it was time to get a sign. Something that read: Yes, I hate you. No, there's nothing you can do about it. For a moment, the hypocrisy of it angered her. Okay, yeah, you can't be all cheery and things because that scares me; just be yourself except you're not allowed to be mean to me. Yeah. "We've been through this, Ms. Ray," she said impatiently. "I don't hate everyone. I just don't really like people."
