| | Potions Lesson #1 Professor Branxton unlocked the door to one of the potions classrooms and stepped inside, leaving the door open for students. He was generally early for his classes and arrived before the students began to queue up outside of the door. He found it much more relaxing this way. He wrote his name on the chalkboard as well as the title for the lesson. Quote: Professor Doyle Branxton
Introduction and Safety When he was through, he sat down behind his desk and began to clean his glasses while waiting for the students to arrive. |

Cassandra's hand shot up in the air as quickly as one could say grout. "Diluted Bundimun secretion is used as cleaning fluid, Mrs. Scower's Magical Mess Remover, and dragons' blood can be used as an oven cleaner." She said smiling "Oh, and Erica Stainright's cleaning potion Everclean, should never be used..." She said.

Stacey gave a smile as she noticed the Gryffindor girl sitting next to her. She completely forgot about dragon's blood for oven cleaner and nodded her head in the girl's direction, knowing that her answer was another great one indeed. She gave a small squint of her eyes and noticed that the girl was none other than the one she recognized yesterday, leaving the Library with two other girls. "Yes," she whispered and continued to listen to the Professor.

While doxycide is really more of a pesticide, I suppose one might consider it as a cleaning solution as it aids in cleaning out a doxy infestation. Mrs. Scower's Magical Mess Remover is a very common ready-made cleaning solution. And you are also correct in thinking that bundimun secretion and dragon's blood are also used in or as cleaning solutions. Any other ideas?"

Kay didn't know what to say. The only things she had ever cleaned with was Mr. Clean and a Dawn.

Lauren raised her hand once more, feeling a tad bit bolder from her last correct answer. "This may sound silly ... but would simple soap and water sometimes do the trick?"

Jewil had no clue so she just looked at her hands and tire to wait till this was over. She wrote down what every one said and tried her best to think but it was useless.

| Technically technical all the time Bookaholic Professor Branxton gave a slight chuckle. "Yes, soap and water will also do the trick, as will a number of different charms. I would not include wound-cleaning potions in the same category as the cleaning solutions we are discussing at the moment," he said. "Now, since we do have charms for cleaning, can someone think of any reasons why we would need to use potions for cleaning?"

Kay raised her hand, thinking she might have an answer for once. "Could it be for squibs?" she bit her lip, doubting her own correctness.

Jewil thought about it for a moment. "Some stuff might not come out if you use regular cleaning suplice." She wanted to say somthing, but now that she said it out load she dident think it sounded so profound.

"Underage wizards and witches are not allowed to do Magic outside of school" Cassandra said thinking of the poorer students who didn't have house elves. "Oh, and also, because sometimes you can't perform magic in front of Muggles... and because some stains are made by magic and therefor uncleanable without certain potions."
Cassandra smiled at the professor, she was glad no one heared her mention the shrinking solution as an alternative to cleaning... her mother didn't like that either.

Stacey raised her hand once more not knowing if what she was about to say was correct. "Could it be that they give items their extra polish needed whereas charms cannot?" She placed her hand down and waited to see what the others around her came up with being as she was guessing with her answer.

Becky raised her hand "some things just take longer to clean the muggle way like substances that are sticky...potions would make that easier"

Jordana raised her hand, "Purhaps Potions, are stronger than regular cleaning solutions. If you make a potion to clean something, you can always add ingredients that might be specialized to clean whatever it is has caused a certain stain. They can be targeted more precisely than a regular cleaning solution."

Lauren stuck her hand up in the air, waiting to be called on by the professor. "Well, charms are placed on actual objects to make that object (a broom, perhaps) behave in a way that isn't natural. With a cleaning potion, no outside objects are required; all that is necessary is the item to be cleaned and that solution."

Kay heard everyone else's answers and realized that her's sounded dumb and not well thought-out. She watched the teacher to see which ones he would credit.

Emily wondered for a bit before deciding against raising her hand and saying her own version of what everyone else was saying instead she just wrote down what the professor was saying in her notebook.

"There might be too much of a mess to clean with an ordinary charm," Jackie suggested. "You might need something stronger."

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.
Ariana just smiled politely and didn't bother to reply. She only knew of Muggle cleaning solutions, not Wizarding ones. After all, she had spent all her life as a Muggle and only recently found out about the Wizarding world. She comtinued to write down everythign that was said, feeling proud that she actually knew a little about potons.

AJ hoped they didn't have to brew anything, and also hoped she'd get a chance to speak with Branxton alone after class about her wand. she thought for a moment and raised her hand tho, glad this part wasn't with wands, "it would be so that...." she thought, "some things are too strong for a simple spell or charm and would need an extra cleaning boost of a potion." she said, that was all she could come up with at the moment.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Grace Cail | Phoebe raised her hand smiling at AJ as she did. "Well, I guess not all charms work on all things. Like muggles sometimes need to use other cleaning products to clean the one mess. I guess it would also be handy as you don't always have a wand on you or for the underage." Another idea came to Phoebe. "Maybe also a potion could be stronger and cure unusual messes?" She said wondering if it was correct. |

| Alex entered the classroom, which seemed to have been started a long, long time ago. No wodner everyone was staring at him. He made his way over to the Professor and said, "I'm really sorry Professor, for being late, but I had some problems......" |
