Professor Branxton unlocked the door to one of the potions classrooms and stepped inside, leaving the door open for students. He was generally early for his classes and arrived before the students began to queue up outside of the door. He found it much more relaxing this way. He wrote his name on the chalkboard as well as the title for the lesson.

Jewil looked around after the prof had spocken she knew the answer but was a bit shy on giving it. She lisended to everyone elses answers and wrote them down. "Potions are liquid drinks made of diffrent ingredents. Some make you tell the truth, and others do other things deppeading on how you make it and with what." She said hopping she wasent wrong.

Ariana raised her hand, squinting her eyes as she replied, hoping to get it close to being right

"Potions are magical liquids and solid ingredients mixed together to create substances which can be used from anything to curing boils to causing a person to act as if they're dead."

'Wow, that made no sense to me' she thought sadly.

"Potions is the art of mixing ingredients together to make a edible mixture that causes different effects, depending on the ingredients, temperature of the flames, number of turns, and which direction you stir." Jackie said, thinking she mentioned just about everything important.

Jordana raised her hand and said, "Potions is the art of taking different ingredients, like herbs and such, and mixing them together to come up with what it is you are striving for. One must take special care in how much of the ingredients is added and how they are stirred. You must be very careful when dealing with potions." she said nodding her head.

Potions is the art of brewing concoctions with varying ingredients with varying techniques in order to create a certain effect when said concoction is ingested or touched in some way," Professor Branxton replied. "That will be two points to each person who answered. Now, what are some safety precautions one should take when brewing potions. Remember, potions is a wizarding art, not a muggle one, and while there may be similarities between potions and what muggles call chemistry, they are not the same."

"Well, I think you should make sure that you don't leave anything near the flames, to avoid a fire" Jackie answered as she raised her hand, hoping that her answer was correct.

Christina raised her hand and said, "You should make sure you have the right ingredients and you need to make sure you follow instructions carefully, and add the right amount of ingredients to the potion."

Jewil thought over the qustion, "Well you should read the list of ingrediants and the instroctions throuly before adding anything, and you should also cheek back to the instroctions even if you think you have it right." She tried to sound as asure of her answer and confindent.

Blossom raised her hand "One must carefully follow the instructions, the most insignificant mistake to us might completely change the potion's effect. The ingredients must be fresh and not old and rotten, using the proper equipment is crucial."

"You must have to know when to add the correct ingreditent at the proper time, or else the potion could explode. You also need to make sure you stirred the potion correctly, or else you'll find the potion to collapse as it were." Ariana replied, feeling a bit better with herself.

Jordana raised her hand and said, "Well I believe that before even attempting to brew a potion, you should make sure that you understand what it is you are doing, and make sure you have all of the necessary ingredients present. You don't wan to attempt to make a potion, if you are unclear about something."

Roma raised her hand to answer the question. "You should use the proper tools needed to make the ingredient and check for any flaws in them first. For example, make sure the cauldron you're using is perfectly strong enough to hold your potion. You wouldn't want any leaks or anything of the sort."

Kay raised her hand. "You must prepare your potion ingredients correctly to avoid disasterous effects. Improper crushing or cutting of the ingredients can ruin a perfectly good potion and cauldron."

Cassandra's hand shot up again... she wanted to make her head of house proud "Rate of stirring, knowing when, how much, and which ingredient to add is very important, also one should review instructions thoroughly before brewing and one should always remain focused on what one is brewing." She said with a smile and continuing she said "Also, one must have the proper tools. Using a pewter cauldron instead of a silver one can result in deadly poisons instead of health drafts, and the same for what type of knife or gloves one uses."

Lua wasn't paying attention to what the professor was talking about, she was gazing at lee, she needed to speak with him soon, maybe after class. Frowning at the question the professor asked 'precautions when brewing a potion', for one transt should not be sitting next you.. instead she raised her hand an answered "Try not to taste your potion while brewing" lua added to the other student's list of precautions.
