Muggle Studies Lesson 3 Professor Light enters the room, holding only a small stack of notes and a huge stack of photos. Her robes have been cleaned up since the vacuum incident, and her hair, while still in a messy array of curls has been pulled back at least slightly. She props open the door and moves to to sit on her desk and wait for the students to arrive to the final lesson of the year. |
Julia merrily James Bond rolls into the classroom and skips over to a desk in the front of the room. "Hello Professor Light," she greeted, beaming. "How are you this lovely day?" The Ravenclaw slipped into her chair at the desk she was standing by and began to take out her supplies for class. |
Professor Light smiled as the first few students began to trickle into the room. She expected the lesson to be small, but she had a short lesson planned so it was really alright. She had gotten used the "end of the year" class slowing, and had purposely planned a short lesson. She decided to start with a review to get the students who did come in early some easy points. "Alright everyone, I have your photos from the first lesson here! As a review, I'm going to hold up the photos, and I want you all to tell me which animal it is! Alright, here's your first photo..." Professor Light shuffled through the pile and pulled out the following photo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...it_english.jpg |
Julia raised her hand. "That's Bug-...that's a rabbit," she answered with a giggle. |
Professor Light smiled as one of her favorite students answered the question quickly. "Correct, 2 points to Ravenclaw... although.. with the points being, um, as they are, I'm not quite sure when those points will actually be counted... anway..." Professor Light trailed off and shrugged. All the events happening around the school lately really had been confusing. "Ok, here is the next one! Let's see if we can get someone else to answer... don't make me have to call on someone!" Professor Light said in a sing-song voice. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ary/fishes.jpg |
After Serena entered the classroom, she took a seat next to Julia tossing her a quick smile. Grinning, she raised her hand. She knew it paid off to come early. "Fish." |
Kim walked into the class and sat down and put her things on her desk. When kim saw the the picure and raised her hand and said"It a black and white rabbit. The second picure is fish in tank or the ocean. |
Julia frowned slightly as Professor Light said for someone else to answer the question. She shrugged and smiled at Serena, resisting the urge to roll her eyes as she answered the question. Gryffindors, she thought with slight disgust. |
"Correct, Serena! And a nice follow up confirmation, Kim... 2 points for Gryffindor for a nice combined effort." Professor Light looked out the door expectantly, hoping to draw in some other students. "Well, if no one else comes, we can just continue a nice small lesson. Anyway, I'll do 2 more animals..." http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/Parakeet.jpg |
Brittany's mouth was open when Serena answered. She shrugged and smiled at her, hoping to get the next one- Ravenclaw could use the points the way things were. She straightened up when Professor Light held the next card. Brittany raised her hand, "Bird." She said confidently. |
Julia glanced over at Brittany as she answered. "A parakeet, more specifically," she added. |
Kim raised her hand again and the said"it a parkket".Then it reminded of i easy they can die. |
Professor Light giggled slightly and smiled Brittany, "Haha, yes, yes, it is a bird." She glanced as Julia raised her hand quickly afterward and mentioned that it was, more specificaly of course, a parakeet. "Both of you are correct... this type of bird is a parakeet. 2 more points to Ravenclaw." Professor Light shuffled through her photos and held up one last one. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...kerspaniel.jpg |
Serena's hand shot up. "That's a dog." |
Kim look at the other gryffindor and wanting to help get her more points raised her hand'I not sure what time of dog it is.But it black and white and realy cute. |
Professor Light smiled. "Yes, it is a dog, more specifically a cocker spaniel. And yes, they are very cute!" Professor Light picked up the stack of photos and moved them near the door. "You guys can pick up your house set of the photos on your way out, to help you study for your final." Professor Light sat on her desk, as usual, and looked around the classroom. "Ok, so far we've covered Muggle domestic animals... or animals that humans have trained. But, as in the wizard world, many animals are not trained to live with humans, except in rare cases. We've going to talk about 3 common Muggle animals like that today. But I want you guys to give me the information. I have quite a bit of info about each animal, but I'd like to see if you guys can try to identify some sort of traits on each animal... maybe compair them to a wizarding world creature you've seen in Care of Magical Creatures?" Professor Light paused and waited for the students to get out their notebooks and to give her the go ahead. |
Kim opened her notebook and waited on Professor Light. Then started to think what animals can she compare to wizarding world creatures. |
"This sounds exciting and dangerous," Sean said quietly to himself. "He pulled out his notebook, quill, ink, and got ready to jot down some notes. |
Brittany got her parchement out, her quill was poised over the papers ready for anything the teacher was going to say on animals. Of course, Muggle Studies had always been easy for her since she was muggle born. |
Julia opened her blue notebook to her Muggle Studies section of her notes. One specific magical creature came to mind that she could easily compare to a non-magical animal. She grinned to herself and waited with her pencil ready to take notes. |
Ebony pulled out some parchement and a quill. She then looked back at the Professor ready to take notes. |
Sebastian pulled out some parchment and prepared to right down notes on the muggle animals. |
"Alright, what I'm going to do is show you yet another picture of an animal... and I want you, in your notebooks, to give it whatever sort of name you want. Pretend you discovered it! Be creative... Write down some key features... then we'll share our animals with each other and I'll give you the correct answer and information." Profesor Light looked around the room. "You may begin, I'll be here if you have any questions!" OCC: First animal: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ant-Eating.jpg |
Sean raised his hand and said, "That's an el-" and then registered to put it in his notebook. He raised his quill and titled the animal 'Fliant'. "A mix of floppy and giant," he said to himself. "It's key features are its huge ears, tail, and what appears to be a nose." |
Sebastian looked at the animal. He immeadiatly knew what is was. He'd been at that circus over the summer and had been around these a lot. But he tried to open his mind and figure what he's call it. He wrote down something random 'Trufant' and underneath, in parenthesis, put 'Elephant'. |
Julia stared at the animal and glanced over at Professor Light. "We can call it whatever we want? Does it have to sound logical or can we just make up any random name?" A slight smirk formed on her face as she thought of a perfect made-up name for an animal like that. |
Quote:
OOC: I have to sign off for the night, guys... feel free to RP creating your animal and I'll be back on tomorrow night to do the last 1-2 animals. |
Kim wrote down the Elephant. It gray and has big floppy ears that could probaly hear far from.It seems young and probably eats tree for food. Then sat and waited for the next animal. |
Phoebe drew a quick sketch of the elephant. Looking at it she didn't think she could reconise it. Oh well, she thought. Phoebe thought of a different name for the elephant. She tried to combine it's features. Snorfly, she thought or truflap. Phoebe raised her hand, "Proffesor, I have thought of two, Snorfly and Truflap. I tried to incorporate the trunk and flappy ears." |
Touy laughed to herself when she was little she had alwas wanted an Elephant. I think it should be "Skin to Big". What were its special features? Well it has wrinkly skin, its grey, small eyes, a long trunk. I don't know why it would have wrinkly skin but the gray is probably to hide it agains the mud and small eye are to keep them from being vunriable. The long trunk must be to extend its reach. This was fun. |
Alicia drew out her notebook and her pen. She looked at the animal, and knew immediately that it was an Elephant, her great auntie bred these- she was a muggle. She thought in her mind what name? It had to be a pretty long one, because this animal was huge! So she quickly sketched the animal in a minute or so and then a thought popped up "How about Omnipyrus? No, no thats too long. Well, because of it's shiny grey colour and tiny eyes I reckon something starting with an "st" would be good". She choose the the word "Stabion" and wrote it down in her notebook. |
Katie was looking at all its features and the name elephant. She wrote down a few ideas and then came up with a common muggle name elle she thought it was a cute name. Katie's idea was coz of the name. |
Brittany was a bit taken back by Professor Light's activity. She looked around to see everyone else writing things down. Thinking for a moment, Brittany wondered what to rename the elephant. Finally after a few minutes had passed she scribbled something down and bit her bottom lip. Brittany hoped hers didn't sound too stupid. |
Professor Light waited until it seemed like everyone had had a chance to brainstorm an good creature name. "Alrighty, everyone! Now... I'd like you, if you want to, to come up to the front of the room and describe your animal... tell us what you called it and give some creatures you think it's similar to. And..." Professor Light moved to behind her desk and popped up with a box of cookies. The box was labeled "Animal Crackers" and it was clearly some sort of Muggle treat. "... if you come up and share your animal, I'll let you take a handful of these and 5 points for your house! I'll tell you right now that there will be no homework for this lesson, just to study for your final, so if you want house points, now is a good time to get them just from participating!" Professor Light looked around the room and clapped her hands together happily. "Alright, someone just step up. O! and introduce yourself in case the class doesn't know you!" ooc: my o-chem teacher is crazy and I have gigantic amounts of homework, plus it's homecoming weekend to boot... so instead of me calling on you, just step up as if I called on you and present your animal. I will give you 5 house points :) |
Sara confidently walked up to the front of the room. "Hi, I don't know if any of you know me or not...I'm guessing not. For those of you that don't, I'm Sara Parkinson! I actually already knew what animal this was because my mum had me take classes very early on and I was already taught this and imagined I had no clue what it was. I said it's a Cocker Wrinkle. It reminds me a bit of that one picture of the Cocker Spaniel dog except it's much, much wrinklier," she giggled wondering to herself if wrinklier was even a word. She looked to Professor Light then thinking that since she had compared the Elephant to the Cocker Spaniel and had said her name and reasons for calling it, and also introduced herself she finished with a "Annnd the end!" she walked over and took a small handful of Animal Crackers and took her seat once again, waiting for the next volunteer. She took a bite of the coincidentally enough, elephant-shaped cracker and smiled. It was really good! |
Phoebe claped as Sara finished, Next she got up and stood up the front of the class a little nervous, "I am Phoebe Moult. I knew this animal before too as I am muggle-born. I decided to call it Snorfly or Truflap. I prefer Truflap, I chose it because it includes the elephants two main features. It's trunk and flappy ears. The snorfly is a mix of everything I guess" Phoebe said then taking a biscuit, "thankyou", and sitting back down as she ate it. I was very nice. |
Tasha approached the front of the class apprehesively. She looked at the picture of the rabbit and started to tell her version. "Hi. I'm....uh... Natasha Lundren. I don't know about the elephant but dad always told me that this one (Pointing at the picture of the rabbit) was called a lopalite. I knew better, but dad always made me laugh with the funny names he called the animals he gave me." Tasha grinned a little at the memory of her rabbit. "My lopalite...I mean rabbits name was Greeby." Tasha took her cracker and took her seat quickly. |
Caitlin walked confidently to the front of the classroom holding up a picture of a giraffe. "Well," she began. "My name is Caitlin, and this is a Spotted Long Neck, also known as the Slin. It's native home is in Guakamundee, Alaska, and it loves to eat pickles. The only bad thing is when the Slin gets a sore throat ... Imagine how that must feel!" Caitlin smiled, but denied the animal crackers. "Sorry ... I don't eat bread or anything similar to it." She sat down at her desk, anxious to see then next person go. Ooc: The computer I'm on won't show any images, so I hope we weren't supposed to describe a specific animal. If so, please tell me and I'll re-do it. |
Ariana nodded nervously to the professor and stood up, walking to the front of the room. "Hi everyone, my name's Ariana Castior, I'm not a muggle-born but I have lived with muggles all my life, though not exactly with them, just around them. I know all sorts of things about muggles, and I know this animal. I'm not going to say the real name, so I'll come up with one of my own. It's called an Eltrant, and it's characteristics are a large wrinkly trunk which it uses to eat and make noises, and I also heard that it uses its trunk to tap dance, but I've never seen it; large wrinkly skin and body which it can use for defensive purposes. And of course large flappy ears which it uses to defend itself against things called flies and other annoying pests. " She took a deep breath and continued, "Um, since I lived with muggles al my life, I'm not really sure on what magical creature it compairs too since I haven't seen any that are that size. But it kind of reminds me of a Thestral, since it can be gentle and loving, until you get it angry, then it can become visious." Ariana stopped and smiled, moving over to the animal crackers and took some before moving back to her seat and writing things down fer finals. |
Marie stand up. Walk in front of the class & begun. "I Am Marie & this is a Longgray." And she show a drawin' of an elephant: http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i8...k/elephant.gif She continue" That creature is very big. The Longgray only eat plants. So it's why we said that his herbivore. It's not a dangerous creature, but it's afraid of almost everything. When his scared it's better not be in his way. Even if he don't move extremely fast. If he walk on you that must hurt." She had finish. So she walked back to her place & waited for another student to give his answer |
Sebastian slowly walked up to the front of the class and cleared his throat before starting. "Despite knowing the true identity of the animal shown to us, I came up with a name for it. I'll warn you, it's quite dumb, but still, it's a name." He pointed at the picture of the elephant. "I've decided to call it a trufant." |
Sara clapped her hands as she watched as her fellow classmates stood up one by one and presented. ooc: sry for ooc but you were supposed to talk about an elephant for anyone who would like to edit their post |
Hermy stood up and moved to the front of the class, holding her picture. It was a delicate sketch in grey pencil. "Right," she said, "I'm Hermy and this is my Fluffoflump." She held the picture forward. "I think it probably relates to abraxans, due to its power and size. Mabe also Granians due to the colour, though my Fluffoflump has skin rather than fur." She pused before moving on. "Its kind an gentle nature, and its herbivore diet could be linked to the Demiguise, howeverthe Fluffoflump cannot turn invisible. Finally, my animal hasskin like an Erumpent, quite dried and wrinkled." She smiled, before taking some animal cracker with a small "thank-you" and returning to her seat. |
Tia stepped to the front of the classroom, slightly surprised by the activity taking place in the classroom, though she had to admit she was enjoying every moment of it. She held up her notebook for everyone to see. It was a neatly done sketch of an elephant, in black and grey. “Hello everyone, I’m Tia Ray,” she said cheerfully, introducing herself before she really began to do what she was supposed to. “This is a Legrand,” she continued, glancing sideways at the sketch. “I named it so because of its huge size – The word Legrand is a French word, meaning The Biggest.” “It has a thick, wrinkly hide that, in some ways, serves it as a protection, large, flabby ears, and a mighty built,” she said, plunging almost immediately into a lengthy description of the elephant. “Its trunk is long and very powerful, and its tusks serve various purposes – In some cases as a weapon. “The trunk also acts as a hose, whether for drinking or a dust bath. To drink, an elephant sucks water into its trunk, pokes the open end in its mouth, and releases the water to let it drain down its gullet.” She paused and nodded, almost without realizing it, then went on. “The Legrand reminds me of an Erumpent, which is a massive rhinoceros-like magical creature with a single large horn that can inject explosive liquid. Although the Elephant is not as dangerous as an Erumpent, it still somewhat resembles an Erumpent in appearance. Err .. I think.” Pausing again, Tia shrugged slightly. “That’s all I guess,” she said, half-smiling. She walked over to the Professor’s desk and took half a handful of the Animal Crackers. She slipped them in her pocket as she made her way back to her seat, grinning, the mischievous twinkle ever-present in her eyes more prominent than ever. She had never eaten Animal Crackers before as, despite being a muggle-born, she had been raised in a magical environment, thanks to her uncle. And now, she wanted to test its effects, if slipped in a goblet filled with Babbling Beverage. Not on her own self, of course. She just had to find a victim. And victims would come. She just had to wait for the right time. OOC: Sketch snagged from Google. |
Nik watched the others present their animals and facts and resisted the urge to yawn, there was only so much you can talk about an animal. But since nobody else was getting up, he decided to give it a try. Walking up to the front of the class, he pointed his wand at the sketch and said in a serious voice, "This is an African Wizard Tusker. Why did I name it so? Simple." He flattened his palms on the desk and looked at each and every one of the students seriously, "My father is a wizard, we were in Africa...and the creature poked it's great white tusks in my father's leg." He looked at the other students who had said that the animal was gentle and smirked slightly, "I believe what you said about it being gentle, but even the gentlest creatures would try to maim a wizard if he went by the name Andrei Vannacutt." "The African Wizard Tusker is strong, and possesses a very thick grey, leathery hide that serves as it's protection. My father tried to hex it, but it just bounced off the creature and caused a small forest fire." He resisted the urge to burst out into laughter then and went on with his "serious" presentation. "It is also quite a...well, lazy creature. The African Wizard Tusker merely cast a disdainful look at my father and went on chomping on the tree leaves as if nothing had happened and there was no fire behind it! But it's long Sniffer works wonders! You see...the Sniffer has very strong muscles and this was what made it possible for the Tusker to pull up some water from the lake and shoot it at the burning trees." He decided to end the presentation shortly and thought of what Professor Light had said, "Of course...if I were to compare the African Wizard Tusker to a Magical Creature, it would be the Erumpent. But only in the way it looks - You see..they both have hornlike things, although the Erumpent only has one, while the African Wizard Tusker has two. And also because the Erumpent is also from Africa." He smiled at the Professor, scooped up a handful of the animal crackers and ate them. He held up a cracker of a giraffe and said to the class, "This is an African Bat! But that is a story for another time." With that he headed back to his seat and proceeded to wait for the next person to speak. |
Professor Light watched quietly as each student presented their animals. "Wonderful job to everyone who went... you all got 4 or 5 out of 5 possible points! Now for the next animal... and don't forget to grab some of the animal crackers up here! Muggles really love them... it's part of the experience!" Professor Light laughed slightly and winked at the students. "Alright, I know this is one of my less exciting lessons, but feel happy because you are getting your homework done in class! And getting fed for that matter..." As she said this, she pulled out a picture of the next animal. She gave the students a few moments to figure out their ideas, and then she sat back on a far away desk to let the students start presenting again. ooc: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1154/tiger.jpg |
Sara sat there thinking for a moment...hmm. Well, it had stripes and it had whiskers. She knew it was a Tiger. She hated how it took away the experience of not knowing. But...she was creative! She didn't need to not know...she could pretend! Stripes and whiskers were the first thing that popped out at her when she noticed it so she supposed she would just put them together... Whipes...ew, no. Hmm. Striskers! Perfect! She walked up to the front of the class, "Well, I decided to name the cute cat-like animal Striskers! I named it that because the first thing that really popped out at me were the black stripes on its coat and the long whiskers from near its mouth." She smiled at the class and at Professor Light then grabbed a few of the delicious Animal Crackers and sat back down waiting for the next presentation. |
Nik eyed the animal and tried to think up a good name for it. Hmmm...Bangled Bongo? Heh...he snorted slightly at the name idea and wrote it down. He stood up and went to the front of the class to start his presentation. "This animal is a Bangled Bongo. I named it so because of it's stripes, they resemble bangles and well, bongo...because the alliteration sounds cool." He went on, using his imagination to it's full potential, "The Bangled Bongo is a fierce predator, it stalks it's prey silently, and the stripes allows it to stay camouflaged in the trees and long grass." He lowered his voice for dramatic effect, "When they spot their prey......WHAM!" He shouted, "They jump in for the kill and do it swiftly! Killing their victims with a single swipe of their sharp claws and bite of their even sharpers teeth!" He finished up with a comparison, "The Bangled Bongo is most like the magical creature, I would liken it to the Lethifold because they are both hidden predators, but if judging by physical similarities, I'd say that the Bangled Bongo looks like a Nundu, except it has stripes instead of spots." With that he took another handful of animal crackers and went back to his seat. |
Once again, from Sebastian's small tenure at the circus he was acquainted with this animal as well. But, he would have to try and create another name. A few sprung to mind as he jotted down little notes. |
"All good creatures... would anyone else like to present their made up animal before I move on to the last one and give you some really information on these animals?" Professor Light tapped her fingers on the desk and smiled happily, hoping a few more students would step up. |
Sean heard this and started jotting down some notes and different names he would call the animal. He thought to himself, "Well, let's see. It has long whiskers, is orange and black. Hey, orange and black, like Halloween. And it has a tail." Sean now started scribbling fast and then said, "The Blange Hail. Yeah, that's good." Sean rose from his seat and walked to the head of the classroom and started talking, "I named this animal the Blange Hail. I like to use animal characteristics and blend them into words, so I took orange and black, the animals colors, and called the first word Blange. Then, I took some of its features. It has whiskers, a tail, and may I add is a very beautiful animal. So, I named the second part Hail because its colors remind me of halloween and it has a tail. So, I combined the words Halloween and Tail and came up with Hail." Once he was done presenting, he showed a grin on his face. He had never really spoken in front of a class like that before, he grabbed a couple animal crackers and strided back to his seat. |
Marie think about what she might called it. She thought what about Strippy. She walked in front of the class grap a crackers & started: " Hi! this is a Strippy. It's a very fast animal. He usually chase in groub. Unlike the previous animal it ate meat.", she walked toward her desk extremely nervous but a little proud to have been in front of the class |
Hermy thought about the animal, her hand already sketching. She finished the sketch and walked to the front of the class. "Well," she started, "this is what I like to call a blarange, due to its orange and black colouring. The bright colours help serve as a warning that it is dangerous - along with those sharp teeth of course!" She let out a small laugh. "The blarange is a serious hunter and predator, due to its teeth and the joint movement of its legs. These allow it to efficiently and neatly hunt and catch prey." Hermy glanced down at her notes before moving on. "Being a type of cat, I suppose the closest wizarding creature is the Kneazle. Both are very intelligent and can detect uncertainty, although the Kneazle has spots and the blarange has stripes. Although the blarange is dangerous, it is definitely not as vicious as the Graphorn and hide is cetainly not as tough." Feeling that she had pretty much covered everything, Hermy took some of the animal crackers, and returned to her seat. |
Tia watched Sara explain about her "Strisker," and smiled to herself. That name had an interesting touch to it ... Hmm, she doodled on the corner of her parchment, drawing a colourful figure of a tiger. Then, she stepped up to the front of the class, and began to speak. "This is a Colostripe," she said, grinning to herself. The name had struck her as very suitable for the "creature," but not without valid reasons. "The name comes from two words – Colour and stripe – Because the animal is recognized by its orange, black, and white stripe patter. "Since a Colorstripe is a stalk-and-ambush hunter, the stripes, which look colourful and bold, are pretty good camouflage in the long grass. Dark stripes on a pale background, and visa versa, break up the Colostripe’s outline as it lies in wait for prey to come near. "It looks very adorable, but – well, let's just say it isn't always so," she stopped and smirked, before proceeding with her "description" of the Colostripe. "It could be compared with a Kneazle, I guess, because a kneazle, to som extent, appears similar to a Colostripe – It has large ears, spotted fur and a lion-like tail. "Kneazles are considerably more intelligent than the average cat, and have a few knacks, in particular the ability to detect suspicious people, to whom they react badly. Despite their occasionally aggressive nature, if domesticated they make good pets. The same, to a certain extent, can also be said about the Colostripe.” She finished, eagerly grabbed another handful of the animal crackers, and went back to her seat, waiting for the other students to step up and explain their own creatures. |
Professor Light stood up when it seemed like all the students had finished presenting their animals. "Alright, I was going to do three animals, but I figure since we are running out of time, I'll give you a little bit of information about these two very different animals." Professor Light tapped her wand to the board and instantly, both the pictures reappeared side by side. "The first animal, muggles named an "Elephant". The second is called a "Tiger". I had you name the animals on your own because I wanted to show you something... many wizards name animals in ways that have relation to their actual characteristics... whereas Muggle animals can be a bit tougher to remember since often the names don't seem to have an realtion to the actual characteristics." Professor Light paused to give them a chance to finish taking notes, if they were taking any. |
Sean heard what the Professor said and wrote quickly. He didn't want to miss anything seeing finals were around the corner, "Professor. When will the finals for this class be?" he asked. |
Marie tooked her quill & wrote down as fast as she could. When she heard Sean askin' his question she thought that was a very good question & waited for the professor answer. |
Phoebe had never noticed this. Now that the Proffesor had mentioned it, it became obvious. She wrote down a few notes then looked up to see what else was coming. |
Alanna quickly recorded the information, pausing only to listen to a boy's question. Now that she thought about it, she realized she was wondering when the finals would be as well. Shrugging her shoulders slightly, she finished her notes. |
Quote:
Ooc: starting next sunday. |
Alanna nodded to herself. The second to last week of term was coming up fast. She quickly skimmed through her Muggle Studies notebook, checking to see she had complete notes. |
Tia noted down the name "Elephant" next to her sketch of the huge quadruped. She then flipped through what she had noted down throughout the lesson, making a few corrections here and there, and correctly spelling errors, though there were not many. She heard the Professor tell the class about the exams, and nodded to herself, before closing her notes and looking around. |
Amy sat their and finsished taking the notes she needed. Then also noted about the exams next week. Hope she would do okay on them. |
Professor Light grabbed a stack of papers. They were perfectly white and they had black printed letters on them, like ones that would come out of a typewriter. "Alright, in an effort to save time, I've made you guys a typed worksheet. You'll see two columns... on one side, an elephant, and a picture, and the other side, a tiger and a picture. There are 4 categories under each thing... Physical Description, Where Found, Special Abilities, and What it Eats. All you need to do is fill in the columns while I explain each creature, and you'll have a side-by side comparison of each animal." Professor Light looked around the room and then began to talk about the elephant. "Alright now, elephants are very unique creatures. They are usually some shade of gray, and are characterized by their big ears, long noses (called trunks) and large white tusks. Elephants can be found in Africa, but some can be found in Asia as well. And Elephant's trunk is really unique in that it helps the elephant eat and bathe. The trunk has tons of muscles in it so it can move almost anyway it wants to... and elepants are not picky eaters. They will eat any sort of vegetation ranging from grass to woody plants. Elephants can live to be 60 years old, so if you plan on adopting an elephant, it'll stay with you a LONG time." Professor Light laughed and tapped her wand to the board... All the information she has just said appeared in large paragraph form. "Copy down what you need!" |
Sean nodded, "I can't wait for the Finals to be over. I'm so nervous," he said to himself. Sean then looked up at the board and then down at the sheet and started filling it in. |
Sara scribbled down her notes quickly and looked back up, popping her gum. Hmm, Finals, that's gonna suck. Oh well, I should do pretty good. She tuned back in to Professor Light and then began following instructions, humming to herself a muggle song called "Lips Like Morphine" |
Alanna scribbled down her notes in barley legible writing, mouthing the words as she went. Elephants...Africa...trunk... She finished copying down the paragraph and flexed her fingers. |
Professor Light waited until most of the kids stopped writing answers on their sheets. "Alright now, let's talk about the other animal, the tiger. The tiger is a bit different in that there are many more species and kinds of tigers than there are of elephants. Tigers are carnivores, so they will eat what they kill. And the striping pattern on their bodies is not just for fun, tigers need their strips to help them blend with their surroundings so as to be able to catch food. Tigers are very large and strong, and it's rather sad to report that, like elephants, tigers are slowly being killed to the point of where they might become extinct." Professor Light paused, happily moved toward the door and began again, "I hope that information wasn't too rushed for you all, I just wanted to keep this class sort of short. Most of this will not appear on the final, but I wanted to be sure to cover it.
