Professor Light unlocked the door to the classroom she had previously set up the day before. She had to admit, setting up had cheered her up a little bit. But only a little. She still felt really horrible about her office and her posessions, but in typically Iulianna fashion, she had let it settle aside and used every ounce of her optimism to put a small smile on her face for the students entering the room.

The room was quite interesting today. Instead of the normal muggle contraptions, small and large cages lined the walls, and squeaks and meows echoed through the room. The noise wasn't very loud though. The desks where arranged in a circle, and there was a little sign hanging above each quarter of the circle, with each of the four house names on it.

Professor Light looked at her watch. It was time! She unlocked the door and opened it wide, as she sat down in the chair at her desk. She greeted the students that came in as perky as possible considering her current emotional state, and shouted "Sit under the appropriate section for each house, please!" she said, motioning to the desks and the signs hanging above them.

Nick entered the room. He was sitting outside Professor Light's Office when she opened the doors too the Muggle Studies room. "Hello Professor," said Nick as he came into the room, happy that he's the first student there. He slowly walked up too the front row of desks, in the Ravenclaw section, and sat down. He pulls out his Muggle Studies book and reads a bit of it before class fully began.

Rave walked into Professor Light's classroom and took a seat in the Slytherin section of the circle. Slytherin had fallen into third place in house points, and if it were up to Rave, it wouldnt stay that way.

Julia walked, not rolled, into the Muggle Studies classroom. She raised her eyebrows at the arrangement of the desks, then shrugged and sat down in the very middle seat of the Ravenclaw section of the circle. "Hello Professor Light. And how are you this lovely day?" she asked cheerfully as began to take out her materials for class. It was weird for her to not be wearing her Bugs Bunny Cape, but she had to take it off for... a specific reason.

Brittany walked into the Muggle Studies Classroom and stared for a moment at the seating arrangements. She assumed the reason would be explained during the lesson so sliding into a seat in the section for Ravenclaws Brittany smiled at the teacher and arranged her books and such on her desk.

Professor Light greeted each of the students as they came in. Her students always cheered her up. Professor Light never understood how some of the other teachers could be so grumpy while teaching their respective classes.

"Alright, everyone seated in the correct section? Good! I'd like to welcome you all to Muggle Studies. This is my 3rd year teaching this class and I'm really excitied to be doing so again!" As she always did Professor Light happily smiled away as she introduced herself.

"As my older students know, I only allow the use of pencils or pens in this classroom, because it really gives you a feel for Muggle School! So yes, if you do not have a pencil or pen, raise your hand and I will come around and enchant your quill so that it becomes a pen only while you are in this room. Rather nifty spell actually..." Professor Light finished and began moving around the room, ready to charm any quills that needed it.

Beck walked into the room, and found an empty seat. Hopefully, since she was muggle born, she would be able to do well in this class.

Nick had a pencil. He always carried one around with him. So, he took out his pencil and didn't raise his hand. "Wow! This classroom is really cool! I like it a lot better than the Transfiguration classroom. Or, was it the Potions classroom? Aww, well. Muggle Studies is going to be great! I can tell!" Nick thinks too himself.

Brittany smiled at Professor Light who always seemed to be in a good mood whenever she attended her class. Brittany at first thought she had forgotten a pen but after rummaging in her bag for a few minutes she saw that she hadn't. Brittany began twirling it with her fingers out of habit while watching Professor Light help the other students.

Smiling, Ali pulled out a sharp pencil from his bag. He poked himself with the end of it, as he usually does to check that it was sharp and worked. Seeing a small mark on his finger, he put his pencil in his fingers and waited for class to begin.

Kalaya smiled at Professor Light, she always seemed so cheerful. It was rather refreshing when everyone was either paranoid or jumpy after the strange happenings. She took a pencil and paper out of her bag and set it on the desk; she always had one with her as she peferred pencils over quills when taking notes. Waiting for the professor to finish charming everyone's quills she let her eyes wander, surprised at the sight of the cages. She wondered what they had to do with this lesson, or what the part of the muggle life they'd be studying for that matter.

Nik looked down at his quill and groaned, he always seemed to forget that Light liked pencils. He raised a hand and grinned shyly at the professor, "I'm afraid I'm a bit of a dunderhead, Professor." he said, holding up his quill in a helpless gesture.

Professor Light finished walking around the classroom, and all quills had been successfully charmed.

"Now, at the beginning of the year, I typically like to do some sort of 'general muggle overview' for the first years and new students. So if you were here and got this part already, please sit patiently and listen up." Professor Light moved and sat on the top of her desk. She played with her wand in her hands as she spoke.

"Now, can anyone tell me what the basic definition of "Muggle" is?" Professor Light paused as a few hands seemed like they were about to go up, "There is really no one correct answer, so just go ahead and guess even if you aren't sure!" Professor Light finished cheerfully.

ooc: do raise your hand, but don't wait on me to call on you to give your answer. just assume I did call on you.

Nik raised a hand immediately at the simple question, "A muggle is a non-magical person...or rather, a person who does not possess magical skills."

"All correct, of course, Muggle=no magic. No magic does not equal not interesting, however. Quite the contrary, Muggles are very interesting... no matter what you may have heard. The ways and ideas they have used and developed to overcome not being able to use magic are really, well, there is no other word for it, amazing." Professor Light walk up to the board and tapped it. A list of rules appeared.

She moved aside so everyone could see the board and looked at the room. "Yes, I know, no one wants to read these, but since this class will have lots of oppurtunity for interaction, I want everyone to be aware of these. I apologize for anyone who has heard this speech before... I'm not all that creative, you see." She laughed a little.

Nik read the rules again, although he had read them last term and found himself suppressing the urge to sing out the old Muggle song when he reached rule number four.

Nick laughed a little. Nick remembered a little problem that his old Muggle Studies teacher, in the U.S., had with blackboards and that his old Muggle Studies teacher hated the song "R-E-S-P-E-C-T", for some odd reason! But, Nick remembered the Classroom Rules. It was clear as daylight, in his mind. He got off the subject of his old Muggle Studies teacher and payed attention too Professor Light.

Brittany sat up a little straighter in her chair and reread the rules to refresh her memory. A small smile formed on her lips while reading over the rules. Especially rule number four, it was one of her Mom's favorite tunes.

"Alright, alright, that's enough of that. I don't want anyone to fall asleep, so remember, these rules are always posted right outside... my... office." Professor Light paused for a second, shaking her head slightly as she remembered the current state of her office.

"Anyway, feel free to check them there. Now... today we are going to be studying something rather interesting. It doesn't have to much to do with actual muggles as it does the Muggle world. As you probably noticed, I have the desks in a circle and quite a few cages in here. Inside those cages, I have some real life Muggle animals. You've probably seen many of them before, but I want you to get to know a little about them because if you are ever chatting with a muggle friend... you'll want to be able to avoid talking about your favorite pet being a flooper." Professor Light finished and took a breath, ready to go on as soon as she was sure everyone was good with the notes.

Chiyo gazed interestedly at the rules as she absently played with her pen. She smiled as read them, having heard about them from a few of the older students who had taken this class before. She wished she had taken it last year.

When she heard about real live Muggle animals, Chiyo's head whipped back over to the Professor and she smiled. This is going to be a great class! she thought excitedly. She scribbled something down in her notebook and looked back up at Professor Light, waiting patiently.
