Lesson Two
 

On the board:

Ants into Rice
Wand motion: A swooping motion with a jab ending
Spell: "Inverti Apocri"

:: Professor Ganymede walked about the classroom setting 3 jars of ants on the front desks. They crawled about making the contents look more like undulating molasses. A few times she had to pause and flick an adventurous ant off her arm or hand. She had a uncertain look on her face. "I don't want ants all over the school. I guess I could always just throw you outside afterwards." She commented to herself.

She made her way to her desk, but kept an eye on the jars. Some ants were already crawling out onto the surface of the students desks.

I wonder if ants are good for plants? She thought with a very ornery smirk on her face. She pulled out her wand and did a silent spell that sent a wave of pink onto the three jars. Suddenly, the ants returned to the jars and lined up perfectly. As they marched in the cilinder of the jar, they created of a whirlpool of ants. They seemed eager to leave but waited patiently for Professor Ganymede. ::

Kay stepped quietly into the classroom. Her pale blue eyes scanned the room and she read the board before taking a seat in the middle of the room. She was sporting her Ravenclaw button she had transfigured in the last lesson. As she pulled out her notebook to take notes, she smile at the teacher.

Davina walked into class with a huge grin on her face.She had enjoyed the last class and wore her new pin proudly on her chest.She smiled at the the professor knowing she probably wouldnt like her pin much,seeing that it was a badger biting the head off a snake.

:: Professor Ganymede smiled at the students as they came in. She was still struggling with the idea of being nice to each student no matter what house. It was a goal she was going to reach, no matter her own feelings.

Her upbringing shaped some of the strange ideas, and dismissing them was difficult.

"The lesson will begin soon. I think it's easy enough for the younger students to get and great practice for older students." She explained, still smiling. She absentmindedly pulled her long blonde hair into a ponytail. ::

OOC: This is going to be a long lesson. I will have it open for about 3 days so everyone can participate.

Prance walked into the classroom. She sat at a desk and took out her books.

Rose walked in and took a seat. She looked up to the front. "Ants to rice?" Rose tried to figure out how that would work. She noted some questions to ask the professor. In the mean time she set up her books and writing utensils on her desk. She always loved Transfiguration classes, it was a completely knew experience each time.

Phoebe entered the class seeing she was one of the first few. "hello, proffesor" she said smiling taking a seat next to AJ in the middle. Phoebe put her bag on the floor and pulled out a piece of new parchment a quill and her colour changing ink. It was only then that Phoebe noticed what was on the board. She thought that it was going to be interesting. Quickly copying what was on the noard she waited patiently for ehat to do next.

Ariana entered the classroom, excited about another lesson. She sat down in an empty seat and smiled at the professor. She didn't see anyone she knew, so she sat alone and got her stuff ready. She looked at the professor and said,

"Hello Professor"

Aj smiled as Phoebe sat down next to her and wrote down Ants to Rice, on the top of her paper just so she could remember what lesson this was when she looked back on her notes

Rebecca swiftly entered the classroom, taking a seat near the back. She pulled out her school books and waited for class to start.

Alicia walked in the classroom and looked around, she eyed the professor and then looked down curiously at the ants, she made her way to a spare desk at the front of the room and sta down. She unloaded her belongings and took her pen and notebook out. She wrote down what was on the board quietly.

Siriana entered the Tranfiguration classroom her bag swinging on her right shoulder. She walked to a desk and sat down quitely, placing her bag on the floor next to her. She pulled out some parchment, quill and ink. She starred at the jars with the ants for a few seconds and then wrote down what was written on the board. She placed her quill on her desk and waited for the lesson to begin.

Yahu went in the classroom and took a seat at the front.

james walked in at took a seat a the back of the class me just couldnt be bothered to try today so he took out a book and started to read puting his feet up on his desk and pushing back on his chair so it was on to legs

Mia entered the transfiguration room, she noticed three jars on the professors desk, she noticed they each had tiny insects in them. At a closer glance she realised what they were:Ants. ha she said to her self. She smiled to herself as she took her seat at the back of the class. she couldn't wait to see what part these tiny creatures played in the lesson!!

james looked over the top of his book still have his feet on his desk and looked at the girl and smerked and said to himself "wow she looks happy to be here"he said laughing

Mia had a feelng she was being watched and as it were she was. she took in the sight of a boy who was reading with his feet on the desk. as she sat down she looked at him an rowled her eyes. 'Tipical males' she thought to her self. then as she realised he was laughing she got a bit self concious 'omg he's laughing at me' she checked that her skirt wasn't tokked into her knikers or somthing as she got out her books and wand. 'mybe i'll silencio him' she thought, a sly grin playing on her lips. but of course that would just make the proffesor mad 'hehe'

james looked at her still laughing looking at her panick he whistled at her "ou its ok stop panicking"james said still laughing and crossing his legs on the table and carryed on reading.

Vruk hastily walked into the classroom and found that some of the students were already on their seats.He walked towards the back of the room and sat at his usual position.He looked in front to see the signboard was.It said they were to transfigure ants into rice.
''Awezome..''he thought.

"Git" she whispered to the guy sat next to her "I wasn't paniking"she whispered with dignity (and qite snottily which wasn't like her at all) as more people around her took their sets

james saw vruk walk in "he wistled at him "ou sado........vruk"he said and though a bit of parchment at him james trying to not fall off his chair.

Mia snorted into her transfiguration book when she saw the guy next to her nearly fall off his chair 'serves him right' she thought

james looked at her think that she was a very snoby looking girl but then james didnt know what snoby was when he looked at his own clothes with rips in mud up the back and his boots all riped to he wasnt i the posion to call people that really.

Mia looked over at her naighbour she hadn't noticed before his apearence but she wasn't one to say anything she knew what it was like on 'the other side', to have nothing in the world apart from your mum and a cat. Mia turned back to her desk and picking up her wand she practiced the wand movement that was described on the board.

Vruk looked around,wondering who just threw a piece of parchment to him.He turned to look in front,there was James looking at him.Vruk looked back at him,quizzingly.
''Vwat is zis..''he whispered,turning back to the parchment.

Dian entered the classroom. She saw aJ there, and she saw an empty seat in the corner. She went there and quickly sat down. She read the board and tried to swoop her wand with a jab ending and said slowly, "inverti apocri". She thought, "It's not gonna be work if no ants". And she stopped swooping. She took a transfiguration book on her bag and looked up about animal transfiguration.

james wished that he had his famliy with him well anypart of it would do .he had his brpther and thats it he wished he had nice clothes back when he had a famliy.he got out his wand and started spinning it in his fingers

Mia was busy practising the wand movments then at the jabbing part not consintrating that much on what she was doing she jabbed too hard in the direction of her ink bottle, she yelped as ink exploded every where "Im sooo sory proffesor" she said in a panic.

"nothing hahahahahahaahha "james said laughing

"Reparo" Mia said waving her wand over her exploded ink bottle it emidiatly repered, she watched as ink and glass flew through the air as though it was a Video Mia was rewinding. when the ink bottle repeired itself it landed on her desk gently. After cleaning her self up with a simple cleaning charm she put down her wand tottaly embarresed, deciding it was safer to read instead.

Vruk looked at James,rather annoyed.However,he shook off his head and turned to the empty peice of parchment.He just smiled as he crushed it while taking out his wand.He pointed it and muttered something,immediately the crushed piece magically turned into a small origami that looked like a rose.He set the origami on his table and started flipping through the pages of his transfiguration textbook.

"what all that about hahahahahahaturn that into a roses thingy very nice hahahaha"james said laughing

Mia looked over her book at the comotion over a piece of parchment, she shook her head and turned back to reading up on transfiguring animals but couldn't help be impressed at the other boy for what he had done to the parchment that was a neat trick.

Kally sat down and got out her wand and other materials. And then sat quesitly for class to begin.

Cassandra was sitting next to Kally... she hoped she wasn't mad at her for the events of the night before. Slythering was 3 points from being in the lead for the house cup, and she, Cassandra, had almost risked that.

Stacey walked into class with her books in hand. Walking towards the front of the class, she took her seat and laid out her items on the desk to ready herself for class to begin. She raised her hand to her mouth and gave a small yawn to the fact that she was up late last night finishing homework for other classes. She patiently waited for the Professor to begin her lesson of the day.

GG entered the classroom. Not late yet! she thought. she took a seat near the front row.

:: "Settle down please" She told the class as she stood up to her full height. She then waved her wand in the air. "Today we are turning the invertebrate.. the ant.. into rice!" She knew the ants were restless from being in the jars for so long. Their mission would begin after class.

"Just take out a small pinch of ants for each table. Go ahead, everyone get a pinch." She herself went to the jar infront of Lee and pulled out a pinch of ants for her own desk.

When she dropped them on her desk they walked obediently in a small circle as if they were still in the jar.

"Everyone got a pinch?" She asked the class. "They don't bite... yet" She smirked at them. ::

Davina took a pinch of ants and returned to her seat.How is this going to help us?she thought as she sat down.

Rosalie walked into the room, still looking upset from her Charms lesson.

"Hi Professor." She said with a forced smile, and moved to an empty seat in the front of the room.

Yashu took a pinch of ants wondering why they had to turn spiders into ants!

Cassandra took some ants out and placed them on her desk. They began walking in all different directions and she smiled as she was watching them.

kally watched cassandra's ants before letting her own walk around, sh emsiled. "they are so cute." she whispered.

Cassandra looked at the Prefect and turned to him "Excuse me, how'd you do that?" she asked him in a whisper. Her ants were running around rampid.

Cassandra smiled to her friend and nodded. She was happy Kally wasn't still mad at her.

"professor??" kally said, "can we start turngin them into rice now??" she asked sweetly tryign not to sound rude of interupt.

Rose got up and wondered how many ants were considered a pinch. She hesitantly picked out each ant until she had 6 or 7, which she considered a pinch. She went back to her desk and put the ants down, hoping none of them would scuttle off.

Siriana stood up, walked to the desk and took a pinch of ants. She find it very hard to bring them on her desk and really hard to make them stay put when she placed them on her desk so she quickly pulled some books out of her bag to make a barrier.

"Shoot!" Rose said louder than normal. Several of her ants were moving fairly quickly. "Come HERE" Rose yelled, thinking maybe ants from the wizarding world understood English. She found some books in her back and placed them around the four edges of her desk.

:: Professor Ganymede supressed a giggle as she watched her students. "They are a bit hungry. Their bites are harmless. But still try not to loose any." She told them quickly, seeing some of the students were getting anxious.

She began pacing infront of her desk. "Yes, let us begin. Now, Lee. You'll be able to show us. Just follow the directions on the board." She pointed to the directions on the board with her wand and then smiled at Lee.

"Try to speak loud enough so the back can hear." She added waving her wand across the classroom. ::

"Professor?" Cassandra called, "May I get some more ants?" The ants on her desk had all walked off and she was now swatting them off her body.

Ariana watched as Lee showed them, still a bit shaken up after Charms class. She took out her wand and smirked at the ants crawling on her desk, trying to scurry away from her. She tried doing the wand movement, then saying the spell, yet nothing happened. Determined to do this properly, she practised the movements first, then tried saying the spell in her mind a few time to get it right.

Soon, she felt she had it right and performed the wand movements, pointing her wand at the poor, scurrying ants and said loudly "Inverti Apocri". The ants stopped as if they were stuck and slowly turned into rice. She smiled proudly at herself and waited for further instructions.

:: "That was perfect Lee. 5 points to Sly.." She stopped herself and sighed. She almost rewarded Slytherin points for what Lee did. "5 points to Hufflepuff." She then bent over towards Lee, smiled and muttered sweetly, "I wish you were in Slytherin."

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Cassandra (who was a Slytherin) struggling with the ants. Professor Ganymede quickly jumped up and waved her wand over Cassandra. All the ants on her turned into rice and fell to the stoney ground. "There.. lets not waste them. Go ahead and collect the rice off the floor." She told the young Slytherin, who now had no more ants on her. She then added, "Please try to keep the ants from wandering off."

At Alicia's question, Professor Ganymede squeaked, "Eh? Counterspell of course." She had a bad habit of forgetting to tell her students the counterspells. She began to wring her hands together nervously.

She went to her large desk and opened the middle drawer. Inside was one of the new books.

"Well, if you all would have read chapter 6 page 391. The counterspell to invertebrate Transfiguration spells into common plant based objects is.. 'Inverta Retosis!"' She said a with a raised eyebrow. "With the swish and flick wand movement." Then she peered about sternly and added, "It'll be easier for me to clean up though if the ants remain as rice." She then placed the book on her desk, so that it faced the board.

"I guess you can practice it, but once they are ants quickly make them rice." She shrugged and sat down at her desk to show them how to do it.

"Inverta Retosis!" She said quite loudly with a swish of her wand. The rice on her desk wiggled and turned black. Soon they were marching in a circle once more. ::

Jackie waved her wand and muttered the counter charm. They turned back into ants immediatly. They seemed a bit confused, but then resumed their quest for escape. She quickly jabbed her wand and they became rice again. It was really easy once she got the hang of it. She turned them back to ants, then back to rice.

"Professor, will this be on OWLs?" she asked as she raised her hand. Her ants had been turned to rice to prevent them from wandering off.

After taking a pinch of ants from the jar, Serena placed them hurriedly on her desk. She was not exactly an ant lover. In fact, she usually stayed as far away from them as possible. Luckily they all stayed in the same spot and didn’t wander off, especially toward her, which was more than she could say for the unfortunate Slytherin girl.

Watching carefully as Lee performed the incantation, she removed her own wand and practiced the wand movements a few times before actually attempting the spell. Sweep and jab. She repeated as she performed the movements. Finally, she decided to give it a try. Sweeping her wand through the air, she gave a sharp jab at the end and intoned. “Inverti Apocri.” She waited a few moments and was disappointed to see the ants transform partly into rice. They looked like rice but were still walking around on her desk.

She giggled a bit at her mistake and looked up as the professor gave the counterspell. Waving her wand once more, hoping to get this one correct, Serena said. “Inverta Retosis.” A few moments later, the walking rice transformed into ants. Silently cheering herself, she once again cast the first spell, concentrating deeply, and was successful.

She attempted each spell twice more and was met with success each time. It was actually sort of fun, especially when they changed back into rice. Satisfied, she held her wand loosely in her hand and waited for further instructions.

Alicia followed the Professor's instruction and nodded slyly as she pointed at the ants once more and said "Inverta Retosis!" immediately they turned back into ants "Such a simple counterspell" Alicia said, smiling. Again, she practise dhe wand movement and incntation of the spell and counterspell, "Inverti Apocri" and "Inverta Retosis!"repeated the process 2 times before finall putting the ants back into the jar, and placed the jar on her desk, waiitng for further instructions

:: Professor Ganymede nodded and said, "Yes, something like this will be on the O.W.L.'s and as for N.E.W.T. students," She paused and pointed to a small poster on the wall of a large red and blue King crab, "That's what they have to be able to Transfigure or something similar to it." The crab in the poster snapped its claws threateningly and crawled about in it's picture nervously.

"We will be wrapping up soon. Can everyone please either deposit rice into the jars or thier remaining ants. Try to make sure they are all in there." She scooped her own ants up and shook them off her hand and into the jar infront of Lee.

She then tapped the jar with her wand and whispered a name. Her mouth twisted into an evil smile, her eyes changed to a dark deep brown. She peered out of the classroom window in the direction of the greenhouses and she actually cackled.

"Muahaha.." She was a bit loud. "I mean, haramcaffcaff. I seem to be getting a sore throat." She covered her mouth and her evil smile with a hand.

A few deep breathes later, she had on a more serious face. "All the ants in?" She asked the class. ::

Alicia nodded, she had put the ants in a long time ago, she smiled and took the ants from her jar and deposited them in the Professor's jar/s. She then looked up at the professor and started packing up a little bit.

Sonya put her rice into the jar, thinking about how they had been ants just a second ago. She wished she had the courage to ask the professor what she was going to do with the rice. she hoped the teacher wouldn't eat the rice that used to be ants!

riana glanced at the professor as she got up and placed her ants/rice into the jar. Smirking slightly, she quickly hid her face as she went back to her seat and sat back down, ready for put her things away.

Phoebe looked strangely at the proffesor, she wasn't the only one that had noticed her wierd laugh. Phoebe turning to AJ muttered,"did you think that was wierd?" Phoebe scooped up her ants before they could run away and put them back in the jar.

Phoebe laughed as well following AJ back to her seat, "It is a bit suss" she added.

Yashu tried it quickly. He waved his, touched it with the tip of his wand and said, "Inverti Apocri!" The ants started turning longer and very soon, it turned white. Yashu put the rice into the proffesor's jar.

Amanda took some ants . "Inverti Apreci."she said clearly,watching the ants turn into half ant,half rice."Oh,Inverti Apreci."she said again and they turned into full rice."erm.professer,i think i did it."she said dropping the rice in the jar.

:: Professor Ganymede forced her most serious of faces and told Lee in a flat tone, "I have a sore throat. That is all." She then rubbed her neck a few times to prove that idea.

She then wrote something on the board.

Assignment: Write a detailed explanation of todays Lesson.

"Now, this is due in three days. Please remember not to practice this spell in the Great Hall." She smiled at them and walked about collecting the now ant full jars.

"Class dismissed. Very good job everyone." She placed all three jars on her own desk and opened a purple bag. It was the same purple bag from when she was a student.

She watched the students leave. ::

Amanda got her books and bags and walked to the door.."I had an enjoyable lesson professer."she said and left for the common room.

Ariana wrote down the homework, sure that she would be able to do this one no problem. She got up and put her things away and moved to the door as she said, "Good bye Professor, it was an enjoyable lesson." she was still a bit curious at the professors demanour, but she shrugged it off and headed toward the swimming rock.

:: "Yes, Have a wonderful day." She followed the last student to the door and then closed her classroom door. Her room was empty.

"Now, onto my next idea." She muttered while cantering over to the desk with the jars and bag. She placed the lids on the jars loosley and shoved them upright into her purple bag.

"Such a lovely day, perhaps a walk will help me pass my boredom." She giggled while pulling the bag strap onto her right shoulder and covering herself with her cloak.

Finally, she opened her classroom door and left smiling. ::
