Lesson One
 

On two different boards are two different instructions. Depending what year you are....

First board:

Quidditch pins
Using a button and a safety pin. Create a Quidditch pin for your house.

Spell: "Ter Meta Funi" (This is a simple swish and flick motion)

Second board:

Snails into Erasers
Using a complex spell, we are going to transfigure an invertabrate. Snails into Erasers

Spell: "Inverta Gastri" (This is used with a circling motion then a jabbing motion)

Adam came in and saw the boards and he quickly sat down and waited.

Amber came in and sat down since she saw that the boy had sat down too. she didnt know how she was going to do this stuff but she would try her hardest.

Davina walked into the transfigurations class room andsat down,copying the topic from the board

:: Professor Ganymede walked around the classroom. It was also divided like the board, into two. One side for the younger students and the other for older students.

On the younger students desks, there was different colored buttons. Some red or gold, some green or silver, and so on till all the houses were represented. There was also a few jars filled with safety pins.

The other side of the classroom, the desks had several jars on them also. But these jars contained little pink shelled snails.

She finally walked to her desk and sat down. She pulled a gold coin out of her pocket. It was something old and dusty, hardly any shine. It didn't even look real. She flipped it with her fingers several times as she waited for students to show up. ::

Jordana quickly made her way into class, making sure not to bump into anything or anyone. She smiled at the Professor, and made her way to a seat located in the back of the class. As she set her bag down she noticed Adam sitting in class already. Jordana gave him a faint smile, and began to extract from her bag the necessary items needed for class.

Ebony walked into the class. "Hi Professor," she said as she took her seat. Looking up she read the two boards. I wonder which one I'll be doing? Most likely the first one. she thought. Ebony took out her wand, pieces of parchment, and a quill. Waiting for the class to start.

Adam digged in his bag for the hat the professor gave him and he stuck his on his head in time because his hair started to change different colors.

class,she found a seat and
sat on it.

Sean walked into class and saw the board. He sat down at the table where the younger students seemed to be and sat in front of a silver pin, "Must be Ravenclaw," he said to himself. He examined it and waited for class to start.

Cassandra sat at her seat on the new students side. Her Button was Green and Silver and she was pickled!

Vruk walked briefly into Tranfiguration class.He saw the Professor was already behind her desk,he put up a faint smile.He noticed students were looking at the boards,he turned to read it before walking towards the back of the class where his seat was located.

Davina looked at the snails on her desk."Hmm I wonder what we'll be doing.."she said quietly to herself.

Adam vanished then appeared on the seat next to Davina and said "No time no see."

:: Professor Ganymede smiled nicely at her students.

"I think perhaps everyone should do the first board. I think house pride is important." She told her class while pointing at the first board.

Her obvious love of Slytherin shown with her own cloak pin. The silver snake with emerald eyes had the snitch in its mouth. It was her design, but she herself didn't make the pin. Her house pride showed also in her deep green eyes.

Her black hair was pulled into a bun and held there with a familiar silver dove pin. The eye of the dove was a mirror the size of a silver sickel. It was a curious peice of jewelry that the Professor always wore.

Now she eye'd the students. "The second board is for fourth year and above. This spell is on the O.W.L.'s and may be a question on the N.E.W.T.'s." She explained while flipping the gold coin. On one side the gold had rubbed off to show it's true lead.

"Now which one shall I show first? Someone tell me... Stars or Heads?" She asked the class. ::

Beck walked into the classroom, bouncing on her toes, she couldn't wait to learn how to transfigure stuff. Maybe by the end of the year she would know how to turn her baby brother into a cat, or something else useful. She sat down at an empty desk and got out her supllies for class. Reading the boards she practiced saying the spell on the first board in her mind over and over while waiting for class to start.

Stacey walked inside of Transfiguration and noticed the board before taking her seat. Squinting to find out which way she needed to sit, she realized that she was on the older students side. She walked around to an empty chair and took her seat. Noticing the pink shelled snail jars, she gave a smile as she realized what was going to happen. Transfigurations was one of her best subjects along with Potions and she knew that what they were about to do today would become rather easy with a flick of her wrist.

Angel shivered slightly in her seat. She didn't really care to much for snails, but she could think of worse things. She saw Davina not far off and said, "Hello my fellow Hufflepuff." Angel said softly with a grin. The seventh year then noticed that class was starting and was quiet there after. Transfiguration class was always fun and Angel was looking forward to it even if she had to touch a snail.

Jordana raised her hand and said, "Um...how about stars Professor."

"Heads," Sean said.

Adam raised his hand and said "Stars"

Davina smiled at Angel."hey you"she whispered to her.Davina returned her focuss on the professor.

Vruk had to do the second board since he was a fifth year.He looked down at the snails that was inside the jar.He wasn't sure what the professor just asked the class so he kept his hand down.

Adam finished writing something and it vanished and reappeared in front of Davina which said Hey D,

I was wondering if your going to like the snails? Im really bored today but im glad to be out of Detention and Tell Angel I said Hi.

Angel had returned Davina a quick wink to show that she had heard her. After all she'd hate to be rude. While people were calling out different sides of the coin Angel took out her note taking material. She then went back to watching Professor Ganymede and her coin.

Beck noticed the nice girl that she had met on the train, Stacey, walk in and sit down. She raised her hand in a small wave and smiled.

Stacey noticed Beck wave from across the room. She gave a rather large smile back and hear the professor as "heads or stars?" "I say stars, Professor," she spoke as she folded her hands in front of her while making herself comfortable in her chair. She then looked to all the new students entering the room.

Prancie thought then raised her hand, "Stars?"

:: Professor Ganymede nodded, "Stars?" She flipped the coin. It landed on Stars.

"We shall begin with making our house pins." She smiled and stood up. She walked over to a desk and took a green button and a safety pin. She then waved her wand in the simple swish and flick motion and said the spell.

"Swish and flick is easy. Swish and flick." She illustrated the motion again.

"The spell, 'Ter meta funi' is used on smaller objects. Usually the objects have metal in them, or an earth mineral. Now, I shall make my pin."

She placed the button on the desk, swished and flicked and said clearly, "Ter Meta Funi". The button popped and in it's place was a shiny green wooden snake.

"Now for the younger students, I can help you connect the pin to the transfigured button. Or, you can take a shot at a connecting charm. This isn't a binding spell, more like a sticking spell."

She placed her pin on the back of her green wooden snake. She then poked her wand toward it and said, "Aditio". A spider web like string shot at the pin and made it stick together.

"It's like muggle glue I think." She explained while fastening her pin onto her shirt.

"Now, you all try. Yours doesn't have to look like mine. Try making a wooden snitch with the gold buttons or small lions head with the red ones." She told them while walking about the desks. ::

Sean took out his wand, pointed it at his pin and said in swish-and-flick motion, "Ter Meta Funi."

Beck took a deep breath and consentrated on saying the spell "Te Meter Fune" she said. And waited to see what would happen.

Tas rubbed her chin and took the gold button off the table. She turned to her cousin and raised her eyebrow, then turned back to her button and touched it with her wand.

"Ter Meta Funi", she said aloud and waited for the result... the button popped and turned into a wooden ball, but with no wings.

Adam took to gold buttons on both of them he swish and flick his wand and said "Ter meta funi" one turned into a snitch and the other into a badger and then he said "Aditio" and strings came from his wand and connected trhe pin to the wooden scupltures.

Angel smiled and tried not to laugh. She was much happier with button making than playing with the slimy snails. The Hufflepuff then picked up a gold button and pin. All the while she was thinking of the possible use these could bring for house pride.
After she had her supplies Angel practiced the swish and flick motion a couple times while practicing her pronuciation of the spell. After Angel was comfortable and she had an idea of what shape she wanted the Seventh year preformed the motion and clearly said, "Ter Meta Funi." With a small popping noise the gold pin turned into the shape of a broom stick. "Now isn't that lovely." Angel cooed to herself. Angel then said "Adito" and watched as the sticky string stuck between the pin and the now broomstick button. Angel wrote down the spells and what they did in her note book. She then wrote down what had happened and a rough sketch of her button.

Max saw Tas raise her brow at him and laughed obviously understanding that she meant Professor Craft and her Slytherin pride and then choked with laughter after his cousin's button turned into a simple wooden ball. Her took his own red button and pointed his wand at it.

He cleared his throat dramatically. "Ter Meta Funi", he said still pointing his wand. The button shook a little and with a pop turned into a small lion head that looked somewhat like the one on the Gryffindor badges. He beamed at Tas showing the results of his work and stuck his tongue out.

Davina took up a pin.She thought for a bit on what she wanted it to look like and wondered if it was Ok for her to make one seeing as she was an older student.She however said the charm and did the correct wand movement.Her pin turned into a little badger that was chewing the head off a serpent.She smiled fondly at it.

Stacey took her items in front of her and was ready to began with the swish and flick motion of her wrist. Thinking of something good for the Hufflepuff pride, especially since Christy was their new Captain, she finally came up with a pattern that she liked. With a flick her wrist she spoke "Ter Meta Funi" as the button formed into the shape of a Badger holding pom-poms in it's hands.

Stacey smiled as she picked up the small form and realized she needed to add the pin to complete the project. Picking up the pin, she placed it on the object and spoke, "Aditio". White weblike string emerged from the tip of her wand and was placed on the pin. She then placed the sticky pin onto the back of the Badger and was finished with her first assignment.

After Sean's button had turned into a raven. He then swish-and-flicked and said, "Adito." A web emerged from his wand an it attached the raven to the pin.

Jordana looked at the items in front of her and thought for a moment. "Hmm...what should I make?" After a few seconds of pondering what it was she wanted to make, she decided on making an Eagle carrying the Golden Snitch in its claws."

She picked up her wand, and with a swish and flick, she uttered the words, "Ter Meta Funi". Suddenly the button was no longer a button but an Eagle holding onto the Golden Snitch. Jordana marveled at her creation and felt a sense of pride. She placed the pin on the back and said, "Aditio". A small stream of light ignited from the tip of her wand and hit the safety pin, that was now a part of the whole pin.

Picking up the pin and examining it, Jordana was pleased with what she had just done. She set it down and looked around at her classmates as they worked on their pin project.

Siriana took her blue button and her pin. She raised her hand, pointed her wand at the blue button, swished and flicked and clearly uttered "Ter Meta Funi". The button popped and there it was; a blue eagle with wings spread and tiny tiny clouds around it for her house. She took the pin and put it at the back of the blue eagle, pointed her wand on it again and uttered "Aditio" so that the button and the pin stick. Web strings sprung from the tip of her wand and forced the eagle and pin stick together.

Davina then put her button next to the pin and said quite clearly"Aditio"she button stuck to the pin.She took it up and fastened it onto her robe.

Davina then realised that she had her own work to do.She looked at the snail infront of her and cringed.

Rave leaned back in her chair waiting for the younger students to get done. Slytherin needed points and Transfiguration was the best place to get them.

Angel finished taking notes on what she had learned from the button making and looked at the snails. She knew that this lesson had been too short if they were done with the buttons. It was possible the buttons had only been a refreshing course so that they would be warmed up to practice on the snails. Angel took her quill and pressed it against the snails shell. She wrinkled her nose slightly at the thin trail of slim. It could be worse... Angel reassured herself.

:: Professor Ganymede sat at her own desk and watched now.

"All students need to write seven lines on this spell and it's application. It will be due in two days." She smiled at the younger students and said, "First through Third years are dismissed. Fourth through Seventh need to stay."

She turned to the board and rubbed her left cheek. All the smiling was hurting her face. She was trying to be nice to all her students. She still favored Slytherin over all houses. She missed scowling at people though.

When she turned around, her smile was more of a smirk. ::

Sean wrote down his homework, picked up his things and left.

Davina looked at the Professor feeling slightly alarmed at her smirk"Ok then"she said quietly to herself.She looked at the snail again and then ran her finger over her new quidditch button.My friends are going to get a kick out of this.Davina thought as she looked at the badger thatwas chewing the serpents head.(not moving)

Jordana listened to Professor Ganymede and when she stated the Homework, she wrote it down, and was glad that they had been dismissed. Transfiguration wasn't exactly Jordana's favorite class. The memory of her being completely ignored last term when she clearly stated the answer to the professors question first always came to mind. She knew that she favored a certain house, but Jordana pushed the thought aside.

She packed her things away in her bag. When she was done she stood up and walked out of the room, not looking at anyone.

Adam quickly wrote down the homwork and then nodded to Professor Craft and then left the classroom.

Angel wrote down the assignment then watched as the younger students left the class room. Angel then looked back towards the professor and noticed the smile was gone. Professor Ganymede was now smirking at them? Angel swallowed hard and glanced down at her snail. Some how she was starting to wonder if she should pretend to be a younger student and sneak out. The hufflepuff bit her lip to keep from giggling at the thought. She then positioned her quill so that she could start taking notes if needed.

Siriana wrote the homework on her parchment and picked up all her belongings. Before passing through the door she noticed a smirk on the Professor's face, she shrugged her shoulders and walked out of class to go to the owlery.

:: Professor Ganymede's smirk turned into a sneer as the younger students left.

"Alright you older students are going to like this. We are going to transfigure snails into erasers. These have a tendency to explode if you don't do the spell very well."

The sneer was softened as she reached into a nearby jar and plucked a gooey snail.

"Snails are invertebrates. Please, can someone tell me the definition of an invertebrate?" She absentmindedly poked her snail while she looked out at the class. ::

Rave's hand shot up, "Any animal without a backbone."

Kay raised her hand. "An invertebrate is any animal species without a spinal column."

:: Professor Ganymede smiled, "Yes. 10 points to Slytherin."

Professor Ganymede moved her snail to the middle of her desk and made a jabbing motion with her wand.

"The correct wand movement for this spell is.. a jabbing motion." She watched as the snail slowly crept across her desk. "Also, at the end of this lesson, I need you all to wipe your desks." She added as a slimy trail formed on her desk.

"Now everyone take out a snail from the jar." She instructed uneasily. ::

Rave grinned at the Professor as she was awarded points. Rave took her snail and placed it on her desk waiting to hear further instructions. Note to self: Jabbing motion with your wand she thought

Davina reached into the jar and pulled out a snail.She shivered slightly,feeling terrified of the snail."Eww eww eww"she said softly to herself.She put the snail on the desk and watched it move slowly,leaving a trail of slime

Angel blinked and looked around at everyone else. Maybe I should have tried to sneak out... Angel thought as she sighed softly and went to get a snail. The snail was ... well... slimy. There was no way to explain it. Angel tried to keep her face from scrunching up into weird shapes and she seemed to doing a good job. She made her way back to her desk and placed the small creature back on her desk top. Angel was careful to move her notes up towards the right corner so that the snail had the rest of the desk to slide around on.

g_g got a snail from the jar. she held it by its shell as to not to touch the slimy body. she put it on her desk. the snail popped its head out. I hate slime... she thought.

:: Professor Ganymede sighed, "Not just a jabbing motion. That was close. First circle then jab." She re-showed the motion, now with a circular motion at the beginning. "My snail would have exploded. Please take extra note of the circular motion."

She did the circular motion and jabbed. "Now for the spell. 'Inverta Gastri'. The Gastri is for the snail. If it was another invertebrate you'd use a different usage."

"The sixth and seventh years, please try it silent a few times also."

She did the motion, said the spell and a small pink eraser was in the slimey snail's place.

"Alright. Now you try." Professor Ganymede said as she crouched behind her desk. ::

g_g smiled and nodded. Okay, Zyra...silently, now. she told herself. she did the circular motion then jabbed her wand at the snail just as the professor taught them. Inverta Gastri! she thought. a flash of light came out from her wand and hit the snail. the snail popped its head back in its shell, then suddenly, began to change color. it changed shape, then no more snail...just a pink eraser on her desk...I did it!!! she thought happily.

Angel nodded paying attention to Professor Ganymede's instruction. She practiced the motions making sure to complete the circular motion before going into the jab. While practicing she kept a picture of the profressor's pink eraser in her mind and thought the words, "Inverta Gastri."
Angel was getting ready to do the spell when she noticed her snail was about to glide right off her desk! Angel grumbled and picked the snail up by the shell and placed it back in the middle of her desk. She then tried to clear her thoughts and began to repeat the preparation process.

Davina repeated the procedure in her mind.She did the routine just as the professor had said but her nerves got to her just as she jabbed it and the snail exploded.Davina ducked under her desk just in time to avoid any splatter.

Kay carefully watched Gany perform the spell and was thankful that she didn't have the snail explode all over the classroom (which was something Professor Perry would have done).

She took a deep breath and repeated the steps over and over again in her head. Circle then jab . . . circle then jab . . . clear your mind, Kay or else the class will be wearing snail bits, she thought ruefully and finally decided it was time to attempt the spell.

The snail had been trying to make its getaway but had only managed to move 3 inches on her desk. Kay lifted her wand and did the simple circular motion and jabbed. Inverta Gastri! she said silently and saw the snail's shell transform into a pink eraser. However, the pink eraser was leaving a slimy trail on her desk as it tried to escape.

Rave nodded and loked at her snail, "Inverta Gastri!" she said doing the exact motion Ganymede had done. All that was left was a small eraser, she grinned and tried it a few more times before trying to do it silently. She said the incantation in her head and did the wand movement but nothing happened.

Sitting back in her chair a bit, Rave took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind. She consentraited (sp?) in the spell and tried it one last time. "Inverta Gastri!" she said in her head and lo and behold, a pink eraser.

Angel was once again getting ready to cast her spell when she heard something like a small explosion. Angel turned her head to see snail slim all over Davina's desk with Davina underneath. Angel winced slightly and looked at her snail. "You better not explode on me." Angel murmured as she cleared her throat and tried to focus once more.

:: Professor Ganymede peeked up from behind her desk. When she did she was splatterd with a bit of slime.

"Concentrate please." She wiped her face off with an old scarf she found in the desk from a teacher before.

As she stood up she tapped her eraser, turning it back into a pink snail. It didn't move for several minutes. All the while, Professor Ganymede strolled cautiously about the room. ::

"Sorry Professor"Davina squeaked.She went over the procedure in her mind once more.She breathed in deeply and did the circular movement,then the jab and said the spell."Her other snail that she got turned into a pink eraser.She sighed with relief.

Angel cleared her mind and practiced the motion. Circle ... jab... circle ... jab She thought over and over again. All the while keeping the picture of a tiny pink eraser in her mind. Angel whispered, "Inverta Gastri." Angel pointed her wand directly at the snail and smiled as it started to turn a pink color. After a few more moments the shell had lost it's shape and the snail no longer was gooey and slimy. Angel titled her head off to the side and slowly picked up the eraser. She turned it around and even touched the bottom. She then placed it back on her desk happy that she had been successful.

Kay tapped the moving pink eraser on her desk and watched it transform back into a snail. She rolled her eyes at her attempt because she knew that she wasn't concentrating.

She did the circular motion and jabbed at the snail again. Inverta Gastri! This time, the snail transformed into a perfect pink eraser. Kay placed it on the palm of her left hand and examined it. It didn't move and it didn't feel cold and slimy. She placed the pink eraser back onto her desk and watched to see if it would move.

:: "Well, now that we seem to all have the hang of it." She nodded and went back to her desk.

"Your assignment which is due in two days will be.. along with the first assignment.. " She paused and wrote on the board,

Name 5 other examples of invertebrates. Also, name specifically 3 other Gastropods. With the Gastropods examples, explain what the Gastropod could turn it into.

"We will be using other invertebrates next lesson." She smiled uneasily, her own snail now on the side of her desk sliming it's way to the floor.

"Wipe off the desks, return the snails to the jars, and your dismissed." She plucked her snail off the side of her desk and dropped it into a jar. "If you still have an eraser, good job."

She tapped her desk and towels appeared for the students to clean the desks off with. ::

g_g copoied the homework. she took her eraser and examined it. It still looke and feels like a regular pink eraser to me... she thought.

she stood up and got a towel and wiped off the slime the snail left before she turned it to an eraser.

Davina took a towel and wiped her desk clean of the slime.She then wrote off her home work and left the classroom with the towel held gingerly between her fingers.She smiled despite it though.She had gotten two things in this class.A shiny new badge and a pink eraser.

Angel wrote down the assignment and tapped her wand against the eraser. It slowly turned back into it's gooey snail form. Angel scrunched up her nose and picked it up by the shell. She dropped it into the jar and took a towel back to her desk to clean up the slimy yuck.
Angel placed her notes in her bag and rubbed the towel across the desk. She then took the towel up to Professor Ganymede's own desk. She made a separate pile for the dirty towels. "See you later, Professor. It was an interesting class. I really enjoyed the button making." Angel smiled and nodded a goodbye to the professor before walking back to her desk to pick up her bag. Angel then walked out of the class room and headed for the nearest bathroom to wash her hands.

:: Professor Ganymede nodded to the students leaving. It was a good lesson. She hoped to get further into invertebrate transfiguration.

The seventh years will definitley learn more human transfiguration. That's my specialty. She thought to herself as the older ones left. ::

Kay picked up the pink eraser and placed it in her left palm. With a tap of her wand, the eraser transformed itself back into a slimy, gooey snail. She carefully carried the creature back up to Gany's desk and placed it inside the jar with the rest of its friends. She then grabbed a towel and wiped her hands as she went back to clean up her desk.

She vigorously cleaned her desk and checked the surface at different angles to make sure she had rid the surface of the snail's slimy trail. Satisfied with her handiwork, she added the additional assignment to her paperwork and packed her materials away.

"Good day, Professor," Kay said quietly as she placed the towel in the dirty towel pile and headed out the door.
