If you've made it past the gargoyle, all that stands between you and the Headmistress is a solid wood door. On the other side of the door is a high ceilinged room with a desk at the far end. The walls are stacked with innumerable portraits, although they all appear to be sleeping deeply or otherwise engaged. The shelves and tables are lined with strange objects, some that seem almost familiar to you, and even a few you are certain are mutated Dark Magic Detectors. A low row of pictures line a bookshelf otherwise filled with various texts, and each features the same blond woman waving happily with some other person.

Behind the desk sits a woman deep in thought. Her honey-colored hair is braided and coiled around her head like a crown. She is wearing dark blue robes with flowers embroidered along the hems and neckline. Overall, she gives off quite a solemn appearance, until a sound from you catches her attention. When she looks at you, you realize her eyes are full of laughter and a smile plays around her lips. "What can I help you with today?"

ooc: Do NOT, under fear of punishment and of me giggling and pointing at you... do NOT post in this thread unless you have the password legitimately. Also... the Gargoyle thread may be used as a sort of waiting area for the Headmistress.

"I'm starting to think that I was meant to die, instead of live. So, since I'm not supposed to technically be here, I'm being made to be miserable. Do you think the Book says something like that...? Can I see it?"

Rae stared at Lainey, noting the misery in her eyes. "Of course... but I don't believe that for a minute. You're going to live a long time and be very happy. Now," Rae stood and faced her bookcase for a long time, mumbling under her breath. She mumbled again and again before she turned and gave Lainey an embarassed look. "Can we look at it later?"

"Not if you're destroying it tonight," Lainey said slowly, an eyebrow raised at Rae. She got up and went around Rae's desk to stand with her, her eyes scanning the bookcase. Lainey stared at the box, the jewelry box. It was exactly where he'd said it'd be.

Rae watched Lainey until she came to stand beside her. "I spelled it to appear with a certain incantation. It was hidden plainly on this shelf, disguised as something else so that if anyone was looking at that object, they'd immediately think of a good book they wanted to go read. And... it's not here."

A tiny owl hovered at the window, beating its small wings against the glass. It held a crumpled piece of parchment in its talons:

For inexplicable reasons someone or something has locked the door of the Ancient Runes classroom, and Alohamora is not enough to lift it. I'm currently holding a lesson and doing my best to keep the students calm, but I need some help getting the door open again. Please send help as soon as possible.

"Not here, because you maybe loaned it out to someone? Or not here, not here? Not here?" Lainey's eyes went wide again. "You didn't already....," but Lainey trailed off as a tap came at her window. A tiny owl was trying his best to get in. "Rae," Lainey pointed. "Look."

Rae heaved a great sigh and released the latch to let the owl into her office. It flitted about the room until she was finally able to catch it and pin it to the bookshelf. "Hold still," she commanded through gritted teeth. She let the owl go as soon as she had the note in hand.

With Rae's back turned, it was easy to slip the jewelry box into the pocket of her robes. Lainey felt so guilty... but she had to find out what was important about the box without raising Rae's suspicions. "What's it say?" Lainey asked after the box was safely out of sight.

"Opteryx is trapped in his classroom," Rae squinted at the note and then at Anj. "Do you want to come with me to release him? We can try to brainstorm where I've left that book," she laughed good-naturedly, although that's not how she felt at all. She itched to tap her Dark Magic Detector just for good measure.

Lainey followed Rae to the door. "How does one get locked in their classroom?" she asked, amused. Lainey opened the door for them both, but put her arm our across the door frame to prevent Rae from leaving. "Rae... you would tell me if you already destroyed the Book, wouldn't you?" She wasn't implying anything, but she couldn't help but wonder...

Rae lifted an eyebrow. "You would tell me if you decided to take the Book's future into your own hands, wouldn't you?" Of course Rae would tell Lainey, and it hurt her to be asked... but not as much as the seeds of doubt that Virohsa had planted. "Excuse me, Anj... I fear he's been locked in for some nefarious purpose."

Lainey's mouth fell open again. "If you're... did you just...," Lainey couldn't say it. Her friend thought she stole the Book...? A jewelry box, yes, but not the Book. Lainey looked away and walked back into Rae's offic. She flooed back to her office, where the door was locked and she could be alone for a bit.

Rae sighed heavily and left her office, locking the door behind her. No one was to enter or leave it until she returned to look more thoroughly for the book.

The Headmistress hears Mickey running around down there shooting lighting bolts at the bats.

*Madame Rowena arrives at the entrance of the headmistress' door and knocks once. She still couldn't understand where all of the transfiguration books disappeared off to from the library. It seems like a whole series of unexplained events were occuring all over the school to no end. After a few seconds without hearing an answer Madame Rowena turns to leave in hopes that she would run into the headmistress in the hallways*

Iocus floats through the door into Rae's office. "So this is Clumsy Cassie's office. Rather too ordinary if you ask me. It is in need of some redecorating." Iocus flies around turning former head masters and mistresses portraits upside down. When he comes to Dumbledore's portrait, Iocus stops and looks at it. "You were a fool old man. How else could you have let Snape get the better of you. No your portrait has no place being here." Iocus snaps his finger and makes Dumbledore portrait disappear. He snaps his fingers again, and a portrait of Iocus appears in its place. "Yes, yes, I deserve to be in the place of honor in this office. A proper tribute to someone as powerful as me. My work is done here. It's time to be off and see what havoc I can create elsewhere." Iocus slips through the walls to go terrorize somemore of the students and staff.
