Divination:Lesson 1
 

Professor H. Craft places a note on her class door, she then enters and locks the door behind her.

Dan arrived out side the divination classroom , this was one of the subjects he was most looking forward to . Noticing that the door was locked he waited outside . He looked at his watch and noticed he was rather early " could make a good impression " he said aloud.

Having absolutely nothing to do and growing rather tired of the lousy lighting in the Slytherin Common Room (she already had half a headache from all the squinting she had to do in order to read), Lauren had packed up her books and supplies and headed to the tower in which her next class - Divination - was located. She figured that she wouldn't be allowed to get into the classroom yet (though she hadn't expected to have to wait this long - Professor Craft must be crazy to meet at such a heinous hour! How would having class in the middle of the night accomplish anything?), but camping out on the stairs and watching students go by beat being bored anywhere else.

To be perfectly honest, she wasn't looking forward to Divination. It seemed like such a big crock - tealeaf messages and crystal balls and seeing the future and all that stuff. Though not new to the world of magic, Lauren knew and recognized that she was new to performing magic and that some concepts would be easier understood with time ... but even so, it was hard to imagine her ever being successful at doing something like that. Still, she had learned a lesson from letting her preconceived notions of Professor Mao-Macdougal guide her expectations of Charms, so she had decided to give it a fair shot. It couldn't be that bad.

Noticing there was already one other student waiting for class to start, Lauren felt a bit more comfort in her arriving early. She didn't want to be seen as a nerdy student in her very first week at Hogwarts - she supposed she was a pretty big nerd since she had always had an unquenchable thirst for learning, but there was no need for the others to know that! - and, with someone else here as well, she was put a bit at ease. She settled on the cold stone stairs, opened a book she had brought from home, and began to read.

AJ went to the Divination classroom and turned the doorknob, at least tried to. but it wouldn't move and she read the sign on the door and nodded, "i shall come back then," she said simply and left agian.

Lauren walked up to the tower and saw the notice on the board.

Jenna waited outside the Divination classroom patiently. There were a few students in front of her...she couldn't see over their heads. I hate being short sometimes, she thought.

Ebony walked to the tower where Divination was to be held. When she got their she noticed that there were other students standing outside of the classroom. Well I guess we can't go in yet. Ebony thought leaning against a wall and waited. She pulled out a compact mirror and looked at her eyes and practiced changing the color by think of different feeling. I went from green to brown to silver to blue and then back to green.

"hey Ebony i'm Kally Hoffman's younger sister, lauren. Its nice to meet you" She said smiling and sticking out her hand.

Jenna decided that while she was waiting, she may as well try to make friends. She took out her favourite Muggle book, Wicked, and sat down against the wall to read it.

Emily walked up to the divination class room and sat down waiting for the doors to open.

Ebony eyes changed to silver again and then she looked up from her mirror when she heard someone introduce themself. "Oh, hi..." she said as she shook Lauren's hand. Ebony smiled and her eyes turned a light green color. "It's nice to meet you."

Kay walked up towards the Divination classroom. She looked at the notice on the door, then checked her watch. The class would start in half an hour. She sat down on the floor near the door and pull out her borrowed copy of Hogwarts, A History, and started reading.

Emily looked up from her book she had pulled out and looked around to who had spoken wondering if they were talking to her or not but she didnt what to be obvious either.

Kay smiled at the girl. She looked uncertain. "What are you reading?" she asked.

Emily smiled back not feeling like a stupid idiot any more
"A book called The Stckler Mansion" Emily said smiling "im Emily nice to meet you Kay"

Kay smiled widely. "I'm looking forward for this class to start. So, what year are you?"

"im a second year" Emily said "Im looking foward to it too. What year are you?" she asked

"First." said Kay. "That's great that we all take these classes together." Kay checked her watch. When was the class going to start? she wondered. She pressed her eyebrows together and continued reading Hogwarts, A History.

"Cool" Emily said quietly noticing that Kay went back to her book. Emily read her book to quietly.

"When is the teacher going to be here, I wonder." Kay voiced to anyone who would listen.

Daniel rushed towards the Divination class room. He saw some students around the door.
"why they are jammed here?" asking himself he got near the dor and noticed tht the door was loked and a note by teacher. He leaned against the wall and started humming.

ooc: oops the door was locked impossible to be here.

Kalaya walked to the Divination Class a bit early, as a crowd of students usually gathered infront of the door if they weren't allowed in yet. She pulled her bag up higher on her shoulder as she glanced at the people already there. She pushed her way through the crowd of students and towards the wall, where it for some reason seemed to thin out. To her surprise she saw Pete sitting on the ground. She sat down next to him and looked over at him. "Hey," she said softly.

Christina made her way to the Divination Class, when she saw a lot of other students waiting in front of the door. Everybody was just standing around, so Christina thought they must have been waiting for the Professor to come. Christina knew that the class started at 12am and it would only be a couple a minutes when the Professor came.


Christina then saw the Professor come and unlock the door and rolling a cart full of tea cups into the room. Christina followed after her and the other students. Christina sat in a desk isomewhere in the middle so she wouldn't be in the back but not so close to the front.

Jordana came running down the corridor and found herself at the door of the classroom. She was just in time and class hadn't even started. She gave a sigh of relief, and walked in behind a group of students. She walked to the back of the classroom and sat down. She set her bag down and watched as everyone piled in and took their seats.

So engrossed in her book that she would have barely known class was ready to begin without the jostling cart to startle her, Lauren looked up at the professor, closed her book with a snap, and stood from the steps, brushing whatever dirt from her robes that may have hung on. She swung her bag over her shoulder and joined the line of students hurrying into the classroom, following the cart of teacups jingling ahead. Once inside, she found a seat around the center of the classroom: she didn't want to sit in the front because she wasn't nearly eager enough for that, but also didn't want to sit in the back and be seen as a student who wasn't ready to work and participate. She had heard an idea that most people who give speeches and lectures look mostly to their left when they address the crowd so, naturally, she chose a sturdy desk on the right. Lauren drew a notebook and quill from her pack, set them neatly on the surface in front of her, and waited for class to begin.

Tas clapped her hands silently and grinned widely. "Tea divination!" she mouthed still grinning.


She quickly raised her arm. "Tea leaves divination, Professor?"

Kalaya nodded at what Pete said, and no sooner the professor showed up. Standing up she began to file in with the rest of the students who had been waiting. Seeing Jordana sitting at an empty table she took the seat next to her, and glanced at the empty seats on either side of them. She couldn't help but wonder if Pete and Lumus would be joining them. She smiled a hello to Jor as she set her bag on the ground.
As the teacher got their attention she quickly looked ahead, listening as some of the students gave their answers.

Rosalie looked from the professor to her cart of tea. She raised her hand, and spoke simultaneously, "Reading tea leaves?" She answered in question form. Her voice was confident despite the fact that she was asking the question.

Lauren raised her hand, happy that she actually knew an answer (to a beyond-basic question, but an answer nonetheless) in a class that she thought she knew nothing about. "Reading symbols found in tea leaves?" she answered, a hint of excitement revealed in her voice.

"Are we reading tea leaves?" Prancie asked.

Professor Craft smiled and her eyes looked almost green as she announced the students right answer. "Correct! Five points to Slytherin. Tea Divination or Tasseography is one of the mantic arts which I wish for you to learn this term. Though the answers will be vague to you I still want to see which of you may possess the Inner Eye." She walked quickly over to the cart and opened the large box. Inside are individual silk pouches of loose tea leaves. "Please form a line and collect your lessons materials and then return to your seats for further instruction."

Jacques smiled as a fellow slytherin was awarded points. He got up from his seat quickly and was soon at the head of the line. He took a bag of tea leaves and a cup from the professor and returned to his seat.

Tea Divination Ashley thought as she went to gather up a pocket of tea leaves. Divination was something Ashley hadn't taken before so this was definately going to be a challenge. It takes a very speciial witch or wizard to posess this art.

She returned to her spot and poked the silk pouch with her finger, awaiting further instruction.

"Aeromancy? professor?" said Thump raising his hand.

Her seat in the front of the room was suddenly flooded with students headed to get their supplies. Trying to stifel a squeek or other such noise of terror, Rosalie remained in her seat until the crowd died down before she stood and took one of the silk pouches. She smiled at the professor before returning to her seat.

Lauren hopped up from her chair with a slight spring in her step. Slytherin had gained five points already, she actually was looking forward to seeing what shapes her cup contained (if any), and her professor had an enthusiasm for the subject that she had never seen before. Though they couldn't be found in a cup, these were all good signs that she would enjoy this class. Lauren merged into the line that had already formed, shuffling ahead to retrieve her necessary materials. She chose the bag of tea leaves from the top of the box and, cradling it in her hands, returned to her seat.

Jordana stood up from her seat and made her way to the front of the class to collect the materials needed. After waiting in line for a few seconds she grabbed a silk pouch and a tea cup and returned to her seat.

Tas stood up and into the newly formed line of students eager to get a hold of their of set of tea leaves. She smiled looking at the cart and when it was her turn she took everything that was individually sorted in the box. After collecting the items, she returned back to her seat and set everything on the table.

Cassandra collected her lesson material from the Professor and went to sit down.

Professor Craft watched as the students obeyed. "Now students I put a charm on the teacups. Just tap them once with your wand and they will fill with hot water." Professor Craft took a teacup of her own and tapped it once with her wand. It filled with steaming water and she added the tea leaves from the pouch. "Once your teacup is filled with hot water please pour the contents of the pouch into the cup and set it aside." She placed her own cup onto the edge of her desk.


OOC: My step father is on European time for his job right now and the poor guy has to work. I have to get offline but I will continue in the morning. Don't chat too excessively. Night loves!

Cassandra did as she was told and sat to wait for directions.

Listening to the instructions being given, Jordana looked down at her tea cup, and with her wand tapped her tea cup once. Just as Professor Craft said; the tea cup now had hot water within it. Jordana reached for the pouch, opened it and added the tea leaves from the pouch into her tea cup. When done she set the empty silk pouch to one side, and left her tea cup alone as she waited for further instruction.

Tas tapped her cup with her wand and watched as it filled with the hot water. She looked around and saw everyone adding tea leaves and carefully added hers, trying not to add too much, so they would still make some prnaments she could read.

She watched the tea leaves drown and waited for Professor Craft to provide them with the further instructions.

Kalaya took out her wand and tapped her cup and watched it fill up with the hot water as she tucked it away again. She poured the tea leaves from the pouch into the cup of steaming water and set both the empty pouch and cup aside. She looked up at the professor, wondering what was coming next.

Lauren looked intently at the small teacup sitting on her desk, as if trying to stare down a competitor. The teacup looked unassuming, sure, because who doesn't love tea? She never met a cup of tea she disliked. But inside here was a challenge she had to face. Divination was never easy to her - she never understood how it worked. She never gave the subject the time of day, always tossing it aside as the "silly" corner of magic, the type of magic most impractical and least official. And yet she could feel her heart thumping in anticipation, her spirits hanging in the balance, waiting to see if she could complete this task correctly. She wanted to see something - anything - in her tea leaves to let her know she accomplished what she wanted. It didn't matter if she interpreted the symbol that appeared; all that mattered was that she found one.

She took her wand in her clammy hand, took a deep breath, and tapped her cup. Hot water filled the teacup from the bottom, the steam wafting into her nose and enveloping her face in a warm hug. She shut her eyes for a moment and breathed in, enjoying the feeling of the heavy air like a ribbon across her face. Opening them, she picked her pouch of tea leaves up with two fingers, moved it toward the teacup, and let its contents drop into the water with a light plop, plop, plop. Lauren gingerly took the cup in her hands, slid it to a corner of the table, and waited.

Phoebe did as the Proffesor told her tapping the empty cup once as hot water filled in. She added some tea leaves and waited patiently to see what would happen next.

Ariana did as the professor said and watched as the hot steaming liquid seemed to appear before her eyes in her cup. She was amazed and waited until it was full before adding her teaa leaves. She looked around the room curiously, watching the other students doing the same and smiled. She liked this class already, and she had a feeling she would do very well here. She placed her cup away from her and awaited further instructions.

kimmy did what her other class mates were doing. she put some hot water into her cup & then added tea leaves then she sat there waiting for further instructions.

Siriana was glad she and Jordana had enjoyed their siesta before coming to Divination class. She couldn't possibly think how she could manage till midnight without any sleep. Collecting all the materials needed Siriana walked back to her desk. She pulled her wand out of her inner pocket and tapped her teacup with it once. The cup was filled with hot steaming water immediately. Following the instructions given by Professor Craft she opened the pouch, took some tea leaves and added them in. She placed her cup on the edge of her desk and waited for further instructions.

David picked a cup from the desk, and walked back to his desk. Lazily, he flicked his wand, tapping the cup and creating a jet of boiling water that filled his cup.

Fred walked to the teachers desk and grabbed a teacup.he went back to his seet.He looked at the teacup.Only he saw was something like a man witout a head and with one leg and a bog hole in his body.

james ran into the class "ummmmm professur ummm waht are we doin becuase ive benn in detension for 3 days and i love this class"james said in painic looking around at everybody

AJ sat back down, carrying her materials, and tapped her cup with her wand and watched if fill. she smiled as it did so and then put the leaves in. setting it down she looked around to see if she knew anyone here, Pheobe was here and so was Kimmy and she smiled and waved at them. other than that she didn't know anyone. AJ looked back to her teacup and shrugged, seeing nothing but water and leaves.

Fred looked at the boy that just r4an in.he was late.He thought:maybe 10 points for being late.Fred smilled.

David couldn't help but smirk as he saw the kid run into the class, looking decidedly flustered. After the, quite frankly, hilarious events of yesterday's Charms lesson, well, things could only get funnier. David wondered how badly done the kid would get.

Fred wat trying to look deapher into his inerr eye.Then he had seen something.He saw his father.Myabe that ment that he was in great pain.Then a nother shoot.But now he saw his mother and his family on the graveyard.He was older.Much older.They were all crying.Then he saw what was written on the sing."Here lies..."his father?Fred coudn't belive it.

Fred hered what the slytherin said.He knew he was laughing to him because off yesterday what happened at Charms.He wanted to say to him.


He saw that a boy took his wand.He knew there was going to be some action.Fred was prepared to use magic if someone puts the wand oin his face.(obliviate)

Evan looked up as several students started talking to each other more or less accusingly. He sighed and turned his gaze from the professor to his cousin, seated a bit further down the line. Smiling at Siriana, as if to try and relieve himself of the tension he was accumulating, Evan returned to the contemplation of his tea leaves, getting lost in his line of thoughts.


ooc: Please stop the excessive chatting. The professor herself stated it in her post. If you want to talk amongst yourselves, do it via PM or in an actual chat thread. All those chat posts and OOC's are doing nothing but clogging up the thread.

Christina had gotten the supplies she needed from the cart and then went back to her seat. The Professor said to tap the teacup to feel it up with water, so Christina obeyed and waited for the cup to be full before pouring in the tea leaves. Christina then put her teacup on her desk where no one could knock it over, and waited for further instructions.

james looked over at the slytherin who had laughed at if earlyer and glared at him

AJ glared back at the late huffie who continued to make a fool of himself as well as annoy her. she looked back at her tea leaves and tried to see something. nothing.

Amanda looked at her cup."Looks like..a rainbow...."
