Amber grinned widely at the sound of Rosalie's voice. She hadn't even seen her there! Am tried to catch Rosalie's eye to give a quick wave and a whispered 'hi!'.

"That is exactly correct, Rosalie. Five points for Slytherin. Now you can see the method to my madness... I wanted you prepared to face your fears BEFORE the boggard forced them upon you. Preparation is half the battle, in many cases. What can be done to combat the boggart?"

Sean raised his hand and announced, "Think of a very poweful thought, a good thought. And then once you have that happy thought, announce Riddikulus and the boggart will change into something you find funny."

Serena raised her hand. "I do believe I've read that one must visualize their worst fear in an amusing form while speaking the incantation "Riddikulus." If done properly, the boggart will take on the amusing form which will inspire laughter which in turn weakens the boggart."

"Serena's answer is correct... five for Gryffindor. The incantation Riddikulus is indeed the means to defeat a boggart, although it is not the spell itself that does it. In fact, Riddikulus is only the means of making what we fear into something less threatening and amusing. What is it that defeats the boggart? Serena already referenced it."

"Well technically, the spell if it is properly done," said Sean, "but is it the very powerful, happy memory that does the trick?" Sean asked the professor hoping he was correct.

"I believe you're thinking of the Patronus, Sean. We already know we need to use a funny or ridiculous image to overcome the fear the boggart represents, but that isn't waht defeats it."

Sean raised his hand and said once more, "Is it visualizing the happy memory? Or perhaps confidence, conquering your worst fear."

Kay raised her hand. "Laughter," she said simply, "finishes the boggart off. If you can laugh at what you fear, then the boggart becomes powerless."

Marie raised her hand: "I Think It's The Laughter That Weakness Them", hoping she was right

Phoebe raised her hand. "Is it laughter" She said, "You have to make the boggart think that it's form is no longer scary but enjoyable" Phoebe remembered reading about it in the library.

"Kay is correct. It is the laughter itself, the proof of complete lack of fear, that weakens the boggart to the point that it ceases to exist. The boggart feeds off your fear, which is why it chooses a form that will give it more to eat, so to speak. By cutting off that fear and laughing, you are giving it nothing to sustain itself on. Five for Ravenclaw."

She came around the desk and put her hand on the drawer handle. "When I open this, your greatest fears will seem to come to life. Who will go first?"


ooc: Rae's mommy Ern would like to tell roonilwazlib that although he did not answer the question correctly, she thinks very highly of him and his siggy and hopes fervantly that OSU beats BGSU tomorrow night. And she is very bad and will punish herself thoroughly for this ooc.

Sean sat there and after all those questions incorrectly answered decided to wait a bit, so he wasn't the first to mess up. He waited for others to go first, and then he would try if the Professor would let him.

Phoebe stayed in her deat, she hadn't found anything happy about seeing someone dead. She knew she should face her fear again though. So she raised her hand. "I will try proffesor" She wasm't sure if she was able to do it, it had been very recent since Joe... She tried not to think of it.

"Thank you, Phoebe. I'll pull the drawer as soon as you are in position. If your classmates will line up along the far wall, they can step up and try out the spell one at a time. I will be here to assist. Remember the incantation is Riddikulus."

ooc: I-O! For you all, I'm going to bed, but you may continue. Please be reasonable in RPing... don't make it disappear so others can't play, and don't have any sort of violent thing happen to your character. I will not be here to save you, and we will leave you on the floor to dessicate and mold.

Phoebe got up a little nervous she was in postion. The Proffesor opened the door and out stepped a little 2 year old boy, he was very cute. Phoebe smiled as she saw Joe then he dropped to the ground and blood was trickling from his head. Phoebe said firmly "Riddikulus" Nothing happened, she repeated it again trying to imagine a funny side to it but failed. Nothing happened and she could feel a tear run down her cheek.

Sana watched all these happenings as she was standing on the line. She recognized Phoebe's mind and situation. She hesitated first but she decided to help Phoebe in the absence of Professor. She told her, " Dear don't worry, be cool. Think something funny and repeat the incantation. It'll be alright".

Deeps saw phoebe suffering and she got a bit nervous.she was thinking what would happen if she was able turn her feriece tiger into somthing funny.But after a minute she got convinced.She was pretty sure that she would be able to perform it as DADA was her fave. and strongest subject.and then she continued to tell about her fears to tigers to sana.

"You can try again in a moment, Phoebe. Let someone else step up and give it a go. Go ahead, we'll all take turns. Step forward and try out Riddikulus and then step back for your classmates to go."

Kay stepped up for her turn. There is no face for failure, so this should be easy because everyone knows I fear snakes. The tiger with the white bunny ears was funny looking but then there was a loud crack and the boggart took another form . . . one that caught her off-guard because it was her one true and deepest fear of them all.

Lying on the floor of the room was a dead Elijah Young staring at her. Trembling and shaking, she tried the incantation. "Riddikulus!" However, her voice was weak and she couldn't even make the image before her look funny. "Professor Rae, help," Kay asked tearfully as she sank to the floor onto her knees. "Riddikulus!"

Tia gripped her wand tightly, and then stepped forward. Phoebe’s tears had made her slightly nervous, but she didn't look it in the least. On the contrary, she appeared quite calm. Quite.

She wasn’t prepared for what met her eyes though; as she opened the door, she found herself facing –

There was ash lying on the floor, and a half-burnt building burning noiselessly in the backdrop, fire feeding on what was left of it. She gulped slightly. Even though the building in front of her was far, far smaller than the "real" one, she knew at first glance what it was – Hogwarts. A miniature Hogwarts, on fire.

Concentrate, she told herself. Think of something funny. Pulling her scattered wits together, she imagined the miniature structure turning into be a firework, all of a sudden, perhaps exploding out of some magical cracker. "Riddikulus," she said clearly, her wand aloft.

Crack. The building turned into a glittering firework, which remained where it was and – much to her disappointment – caused no havoc at all. Slowly, she stepped away, satisfied with her work.

Sana stepped forward as she gripped her wand very tightly. She was bit nervous. Suddenly the beautiful fireworks turned tobe a Monsterous Thunder.
Sana's hands closed the ears automatically. Her eyes also closed with tightness.
She forgot everything for a moment.

But she quickly managed herself and thinking the funny thing in her mind and spelled "Riddikulus". "Crack"
Jerry the cartoon character danced with his robbed cheese. The whole class laughed. Sana stepped back with the smile.

Hermy looked at how the others were doing. Obviously the fear felt very true even though it was just a boggart. She held her wand, loosely at her side. Hermy was not sure whether to have a go, she was unsure what the boggart might be. She did not have loads of fears, but there were things that she had put behind her that she did not want to resurface to the front of her mind. However boggarts were common, and she might have to deal with one on her own - so it would be good to know what to expect whilst she was in a safe environment with Professor Rae. She stepped forward.

The boggart seemed confused what to become, before choosing to become a leather bound book, ripped and torn. It took a few seconds for Hermy to realise exactly what it was. It was a book she had rarely seen, but it contained the only pictures of her missing father. "Noooooooooooo!" she wailed, before she realised that she wasn't at home and this was only a boggart.

"Riddikulus!" There was a crack and paper turned into paper aeroplanes whizzing round the room. Ducking, she let out a giggle, before laughing hard.

Phoebe nodded and smiled a bit at Sana, "Thanks" She muttered thinking of something funny to stop the boggart. She just couldn't find the situation funny. "Any ideas?" She asked the person next to her. The boggart had shown the last picture of Joe before he died, she was still a little shaky.

Natalie's turn was next. She stepped forward, wondering how the boggart was going to become her fear: Death. That's why Natalie was surprised to see the boggart become her dog. Only she was covered in blood and lying on the floor dead.
"Genevieve!" Natalie gasped and the tears automatically started pouring from her eyes.
"Riddikulus!" she said softly and weakly. It was hard to understand her from the tears. "Ridikulus!" she repeated louder. She was on her hands and knees now, kneeling by her dog. There was a crack, and the boggart turned into her dog juggling her dog treats. Natalie laughed, wiping away her tears, as she stepped away to give the next person a turn with the boggart.
