"Okay, so what I think I'm hearing you all say is that you have several different ways to deal with an overwhelming fear. First, Serena suggests that prior to any encounters, you work through what you fear to find its root. So knowing what and why you fear would make it less powerful. That's very good. Five for Gryffindor." She nodded and looked at the others who had contributed. "Kay suggest focusing on the task at hand, which is always a good idea. I don't know how many Auror situations I came out of successfully simply by force of will. Five for Ravenclaw. And last, Pauline suggests we focus on a happy thought. I think you have a specific spell in mind, am I right? What is it?" |
Rae responded to the additional comments. "You could try to psych yourself out, Whende... but you'd have to have a fairly active imagination or force of will to be able to talk yourself out of being afraid of something as you are confronting it. Perhaps if you can do it ahead of time...? And yes, Tag... even experienced Aurors face our fears everyday. But that's what the intensive training is for... to learn how to face that fear and move on." Her face grew sad for a moment before she looked to the students for more responses. |
Rosalie's hand raised into the air. |
Kim raised her hand and said''You could learn why you a have the certain fear in the first place then find someone with that fear. Then try to get the fear to go away togather. For example if you have a fear of geting close to people learn why you have that fear. Then try finding someone with that fear and move on toagther. As for getting spells to get rid of your fears. The spell would depress the fear not realy get rid of it wouldnt it? |

"Say when you were a child, you saw a dog maul your cat, you probably wouldn't remember that, because you wouldn't have a scar or anything trigger the memory. You'd just be afriad of dogs right?" Rosalie asked. She combed some locks of her long auburn hair behind her ears, and leaned back in her chair. "It depends on what kind of fear your facing. If the fear is being broght on by a creature such as a Dementor, then understanding what was causing this could help deminish some of the fear. If your afraid of spiders, and you have to kill a spider the size of your fist then your going to have to go about it completely differently." She reached up with one hand and twirled a lock of her hair around her index finger. "But a lot of things could play into how you get over it. "It would depend on how afraid of the given thing. Does it give you the willies? Or is this a phobia? Is it a hillucination. Or do you have complete control of your mind while your facing this down?" |
Whende jotted down some of the things being said. She supposed that Professor Rae was right about needing a big imagination. It would work for her, as her imagination was extremely wild and random but the Professor did have a point. She glanced over at Rosalie for a moment before she remembered that she was supposed to be mad at her. Quickly, she switched her attention back to the front of the room. |

"You obviously can't always work through a fear, especially if it's an irrational one or something that would be painful or dangerous to face for no reason, but it helps to recognize what a fear is and to come to terms with it. If you are afraid of heights, you don't have to jump off a cliff, but you could also recognize that in fighting a Dark wizard on a cliff... the wizard is more dangerous than the height. The threat must be met first before allowing your fear to take over." |

"I agree," Rae nodded. "So we all acknowledge that it is necessary to move past fear, whatever way works for us. I'm going to ask you to face your fears head-on in just a moment. This is going to be a bit untraditional, so please bear with me. Now, if you could all fix firmly in your mind what it is you think you fear the most." |
Rosalie closed her brown eyes and brought to her mind an image of a tall bald man. He had a thick neck, and arms. Just as he had when she was a child, he reminded her of a body builder or a WWF wrestler. Nothing about him made her think 'Daddy,' she always thought she should have. Biting her bottom lip, she waited, wondering where this was going. |
Kim thought realy hard what she fears the most.Lots of thoughts came to mind like coachroachs and spiders, someone killing her or dieing young. Then finely she thought of failure as always scared her and it was a fear. Then waited quetily for more information. |
Sean closed his eyes and searched his mind for the thing that he feared most. Many thoughts raced through his head that somewhat feared him until he reached the worst. He was in a dark house, lonely, and depressed. He looked as if the excitement of life had been sucked out of him. |
Natalie thought for a second. A few things went through her head. She thought of how she was afraid of pain, but realized this was really because she was afraid of death. She waited there quietly, imagining a truck crushing her, as she waited for the professor to go on. |
zack closed eyes first thing that came to him head was darkness then a hand comes out of the darkness grabing him then he quickly opens his eyes scared |

He felt a strong impression to leave the class. He didn't want to face his fear. Hopefully, Rae didn't mean they would be literally facing their fears. |
Ebony closed her eyes and thought about the thing she feared the most. A large grey rat appeared. She hated everything about them from their eyes to their long worm like tail. A shiver went through her body as she thought about them. They had this vile look about them that made her sick to her stomach. Whenever she sees a rat it makes her felt as though there's a traitor somewhere near. Someone thats disloyal to her and the people she love. She hated that feeling most of all. Ebony still had her eyes closed and waited for the Professor to tell them what they were to do next. |
Francesca's eyes started darting around when Rae mentioned they'd be facing their worst fears head on. She didn't see anyone in the room that would use that fact against her so she shrugged her shoulders. She thought about what she feared the most and really wanted to get out of the classroom now. She didn't want everyone in the room knowing what it was that she feared but there was no way out of it. |
Serena bit back a sharp intake of breath as Professor Rae mentioned that they would face their fears head-on. Did she really mean literally? If so, Serena was not looking forward to participating in this portion of the class. Her mind automatically darted towards her worst fear and she briefly shut her eyes. This particular fear had occured to her many times over, especially since the transpiration of last term's events. Opening her eyes again, she stared apprehensively at the professor, awaiting her next words. |
Kay stared at Professor Rae. She had told the headmistress earlier in the week what her true fear was and it didn't have an image she could fix into her mind. |
Patrick's eyes glazed over as he thought about what he might fear. Growing up. Or being separated from Katherine. |
"Now, take that fear... take it and consider what it would take to make that fear humorous or less frightening. The funnier, the better... is anyone willing to give me an example of what they fear, and we'll make it funny together." |

"Yes," Rae nodded and came forward to put her hand on Rosalie's shoulder. "Thank you, my dear. Five for Slytherin. Now, what's something that always always makes you giggle?" |
Phoebe thought of her fear. It had happened and yet she still feared it. She raised her hand, "Proffesor, my fear. Well, it has happened but I still fear it." She said. "I can't make it funny because, well I know what it felt like when it happened." She said thinking back at the beggining of term. |
