Niky raised her hand. "Panic usually makes you blank out" she added. |
Davina raised her hand.Ebony's answer seemed to be right.."Panic Professor?" |
Tag saw Professor Rae's warning look, and quickly put the forlorn-looking creature back into his cloak. He wasn't sure if House points were still on the table, since Samea had destroyed the hourglasses, but he didn't want to be the one to find out the wrong way. He pulled out his wand, returning Tails' smile. It seemed they just grinned dumbly at each other alot. Tag figured that was just the way it was when he liked someone. . . he automatically become a speechless idiot. |
"Yes, Ebony... good job. I can't give you five points until the wonky housepoints are back in order, but when they are... five for Gryffindor. Fear is what I'm referring to. Not only does fear keep you from reacting immediately to something, it also prevents you from thinking clearly. The things we fear can take on any number of shapes or forms. For example... you may be afraid of a creature or animal. Anyone here afraid of a creature or animal?" She looked to see any hands go up. "Don't be shy... we're all friends here." |
Davina raised her hand."Im scared of lizards." |
Kay raised her hand. "I'm not afraid to admit to it, but it's snakes for me." |
Serena raised her hand. "I strongly dislike snakes and spiders." |
Ebony was happy that she earned Gryffindor some house point. She did need to think of what she was afraid. Rats. she thought and shivered. Ebony raised her hand. "I'm afraid of rats," she said. |
Niky raised her hand shyly. "I'm sorta scared of Dragons.." she admitted. She looked over at Taylor out of the corner of her eye; surely she would chop her head off for saying that. |
When Tag heard Professor Rae ask about fear, he immediately thought, girls. But she was referring to animals. He wasn't really afraid of creatures unless they were specifically dangerous, but he knew plenty of people who were. Scenes from the snake incident in the Common Room filled his head, along with the bat-infested Great Hall. Plenty of people had been running around screaming then. Tag raised his hand. "Manticore," he said quietly. Now there was something to fear. |
Julia's eyes immediately gazed over to Kay. She knew for sure that Kay was afraid of snakes. She herself was also afraid of one animal in particular... but was she about to admit it? No way. Julia wasn't going to say anything out loud that might be used against her some way incase there were spies lurking. |
Leaning her chair back, Tails heard Niky say that she was afraid of dragons, she lost balance and fell. Regaining her seat, she put a thoughtful look on her face and thought quickly. Raising her hand she said, "I'm afraid of wolves." |
"Spiders," Natalie shuddered. |
"Good... I myself am very skittish around certain insects, but it certainly isn't what I fear most of all. There are other fears that can keep us from being able to function. Suggestions?" |
Ebony shot into the air and she said. "Some people are afraid of heights." Ebony for one wasn't she loved high places. |
Kay raised her hand. "Are you referring to the subconscious fear of making the wrong decision? This fear can over-ride your ability to make a split-second decision." |
Davina nodded.Kay had a point."very good point"she said to herself. |
Niky raised her hand. "Do you mean, as in fear of a situation? Many people fear seeing a loved one being hurt.." she commented. |
"Fear of losing what we love." Tag looked down at the wand in his hand, which he was gripping tightly. "Like, people we love. That kind of fear can stop us short, make us do things that aren't right." |
"Exactly on the right track... I'm thinking about situations or events that you are afraid may occur, including heights, enclosed places, fear of losing someone or something dear to us, and even, as Kay said, fear of making the wrong choice. There are also people who fear failure, loneliness, or confrontation. Any of these fears can be enough of a distraction to keep you from performing as you have been taught. So... what are some ways to handle your fears effectively? There are no right answers." |
Kay raised her hand. "Keep your mind focused on what you are doing. That's what I did last term," she said firmly. |
Pauline raised her hand. "How about keeping your mind on a happy thought instead of your fears," she said. |
Serena raised her hand. "Well, there are some things we can do before we actually face a situation in which our fear may be present. We must first identify exactly what we fear and the origin of this fear. Then we might talk to others to further gain knowledge on this fear or may look back on our past experiences to relive what went wrong." |
Tag sniggered at the Slytherin girl's response. Think a happy thought? What, are we in a fairy tale? Happy thoughts might work for patronuses, but they won't help you when your life is on the line. He nudged Tails next to him, wondering if she was still paying attention. "Professor. . . isn't it true that even the most experienced of Aurors still struggle with fear? I mean, how do they do it without freaking out?" |
"You could just imagine that it's something else... or tell yourself that it's not so bad. Like a psycological thing," Whende suggested with her hand. She lightly drummed her fingers on her desk and made squishing wet sounds with her shoes. |
