Rae checked her classroom carefully to be sure it hadn't been effected in the last few days. It was odd that things were destroyed and messed with all over the school. Surely Voldemortist wouldn't come back to do the exact same as he'd done last term? And his attacks last term had all had a reason. What was the reason behind these? Tia raised her hand and gave the question a shot, thinking to herself. She wasn't exactly sure what the answer was, but it was worth answering, whether she was certain or not. "The wood, and a core of an organic, magical object or substance, such as unicorn tail hairs, dragon heartstrings and veela hair," she said promptly. "The magical core is always necessary, though the wood an be replaced sometimes ... I think," she added meekly, in an undertone, not sure of her answer herself, a quill in her hand, slightly bent over a roll of parchment as she spoke.

Tia raised her hand ocne more before answering - It seemed the proper thing to do. And if it wasn't, she liked it all the same. "My wand has Cherry wood, Professor," she said politely. "But there are other types; the most common including walnut, oak, maple, teak, hemlock, spruce, cedar and fir," she checked herself before she could go on further; usually, she did not answer in class; when she did, there was no stopping her. OOC: What if your character has a tendency to answer more than necessary?

"I've never heard of any type of wood that is considered to be unsuitable for wand making, although perhaps some of the softer woods would splinter more easily. There have even been situations when the pulpy wood found in vines has been used to create quite a versatile sort of wand foundation. What are the wand cores that you know of?"

"Holly, Hippogriff Talon, Leprachaun Hair, Runespoor Fang, Chimaera Scale, Ashwinder Ash and Demiguise Hair, Professor," Tia said, all in a rush, without pausing for breath. At least here, she thought, was something she could answer without embarrassing herself. She stopped, thinking of more types of cores, but could not come up with anymore. So, lowering her hand, she sat up straighter and waited for more students to speak, hoping she could think up of something else in the meantime.

"Yes, Whende and Lia, phoenix tail feathers, unicorn hair, and dragon heartstrings are the most common and the most stable of the wand cores. I have heard of people using a veela hair, although such a wand is probably a bit more temperamental. I'll give you three points each to Gryffindor and Slytherin." She nodded at Tia. "I have heard of some of those cores on occasion, although they certainly aren't common to wand makers in this country. I'll give 2 points to Gryffindor. Now, the core of a wand is absolutely crucial. Afterall, without a magical conduit, a wand is really just a piece of carved wood, am I right?"
She glanced at the chalk copying the wand cores on the board. "What is the purpose of a wand? Afterall..." She reached out her hand, and the chalk zoomed into it. She hadn't waved her wand at all.
