Rae entered the classroom and admired how clean and sparkling the room appeared. The house elves seemed to have taken very good care of the classroom, and it needed little preparation for the day's class. Rae opened the windows to let in some of the crisp fall air before settling at her desk to wait for the students. | |

"Excellent! But let me remind you that only one person may give an answer to receive points, so you certainly don't need to repeat each other. Kally, Dark Creatures is one... five for Slytherin. You're on the right track, Kay... but I need something more specific than spells. There are two types of spells we'll discuss in this class. One of them Kalaria got... countercurses or 'defensive spells'. We'll learn a lot of those. Five more for Slytherin. Rave, I assume by 'offensive spells' you mean that we need to learn potential spells we'd be attacked by... that would certainly include Unforgivable Curses among others. Five more for Slytherin. The last category is Dark Wizards, which Niky got. Five for Hufflepuff." She fixed the late Slytherin with a glare. "You're late... and disruptive. Five from Slytherin."

"It isn't a perfect categorization system," Rae acknowledged to the Slytherin boy, Shane. "I heard Dark Objects, and there are most certainly Dark Potions. Both of those have to do with the Dark spells, and I generally lump them together." She smiled. "But I'm glad you're thinking outside the box. In addition to teaching you the facts, I have a secondary goal in these classes. I want to teach you to think like an Auror, so that if you are ever faced with a Dark attack, you'll be able to deal with it with a clear-head and a variety of tools. Too many wizards and witches panic in the face of danger when they certainly could have handled the situation on their own."
