Alicia nodded at Katie and waved and then started reading her charms book to wait for the professor quietly under her desk while taking sharp, relative, random and regular glances at the ornament. She made a 'Cant talk now' look at Katie then smiled hoping she'd understand.

katie saw the look and understood. she was tapping her because she was bored and nervous at the same time while patiently wating for the profeccer

Saroja, who had been utterly quiet (and to an extent annoyed) until this point slowly walked to the front of the room--apparently dwarfed by the numerous tall students. She reached her hand into the box without looking at the professor and retracted to her seat, silent as the proverbial lamb.

Chikie threw her hands up in exasperation then imagined herself in her favorite spot by lake, she had met so many interesting people there some of them were even in the class with her now.

Alicia glanced at Brittany and smiled and waved, then her expression changed when Brittany said that, to a sad worried face. She started copying notes down on her parchment slowly and delicately-she wanted to have very high marks in Hogwarts, and so far no points had been deducted from Hufflepuff, she wanted to keep that up.

Max noticed Tas looking at him and raised to thumbs up nodding in Mao-MacDougall's direction when she frowned.

He smiled. Charms was his favorite subject along with Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts, and he would do anything to make Professors like him, even though it was hard to do, but there still were seven years to accomplish this mission.

He stuck his tongue out when Tas rolled her eyes at him and when she started poiting at the book to make him read, he just waved her off... but went back to the book anyway.

Niky summarized everything the teacher was saying as she took down quick notes. She sat beside Jor, and wished she would help her study in the library. Charms wasn't exactly her best subject, but she would still try hard and with the help of Jo, there was no way she wasn't going to at least get an A. She followed Jordana and Kalaya as she also walked up to the desk and took a golden ball.

Alicia continued carefully taking notes and digesting the information the AMMZ was giving the class. She smiled and was summarising the information in notes and listening intently.
She kept on looking at the ornament in wonder.

Brendon,who had been had been half asleep while the teacher was talking, got up slowly and walked up to her. He grabbed the golden ball and slowly made his way back to his desk.

Newt walked up to the professor's desk. His hand hovered over a small stone at first, but he finally chose a delicate china vase and went back to his seat.

The book on the table was open to the page Professor Andi was explaining. He had read some of the side notes and had been morbidly interested in the many violent deaths that had occured. He had even taken the trouble to write them all down, gloating when he had finished his list.

anna sat next to katie she her books down went up to professors table and an ornament. anna got her books and quill out and started to copy notes down.

Alicia followed the Professor with her Charms book, and continued happily copying down notes neatly and crefully and sumarising well. She waved and smiled at Anna.

David took his item down from the table, and he then returned to his table. Sitting down, he began to scribble down notes lazily on his parchment. He was vaguely taking in the information, with his memory, he'd be able to remember.

Kimmy took out a quill & a piece of prachment & began to take her notes. After she had done that she went to the table to get a ball & then walked back to her desk.

Jenni looked up from her work. She was keeping a low profile. No talking, because otherwise she would lose points.

Rebecca went up to the desk and collected a small ball, grinning at Thump as she returned.

natalie finished writing down notes and then went up to get an item, she saw some students had picked the ball so she decided on the same. she went to the box and grabbed a ball and said ' thankyou professor' then went back to her desk

Jenni had finished scribbling down the notes, and stood up and walked to the desk and picked up a small ball. She walked back to her table at the back.

eliza had finished taking notes and went up and picked a small golden ball. she sat back down at her table and examined it. she put up her hand "the princess had lost her ball in the lake and the frog got the ball for her.the frog kept his promise to get it so he asked the princess to keep her promise so she did , throwing him against the wall.is that right professor?"

Rebecca sat down next to Thump and started playing with the small ball, she nudged him'
"What are we mean to do with this?", she asked quietly so that only he could hear.

Kim toke her notes.Kim felt realy bad for the frog who got throw against a wall.Kim was in a realy bad mood today she hated the girl lost our house points.First years she mubbled. She walked to table to get a ball & then walking back she gave the girl who lost us points a realy dirty look.Kim then sat down at her desk.

She looked at the little ballerina on her palm and smirked.
"Yes, you probably could, but it might do no more than a few sparks. To make your own spells, you have to be vastly talented and exceedingly knowledgeable. Or you could just be very lucky. Or incombustible because homemade spells have a tendency to blow up." Andi was pleased, since the boy had asked a good question that equated the other half of her lesson. "To make spells requires a thorough understanding of the language used - the older the languages the more successful. English is rarely used because it is so new. The most powerful spells, and oldest, would be the Mesopotamian and Babylonian spells, including the Babel charm. However, we know very little of their methods. Chinese and Indian charms come second, and thankfully, we do know a bit more thanks to the scribes."

She took a little ballerina from the stand, tossing it up and down in the air without looking as was her habit. "All the items you currently have with you are charmed."

"Ten points from Hufflepuff for being late to class," drawled Andi, without looking. There, that completed her collection. She had taken points off Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin each, respectively. A good start to the year, she thought sarcastically with a smirk curving her mouth. "What I want you to do now is feel the item you have been given, attempt to feel the spell. I will not tell you what exactly you should be feeling because you might imagine it in place. Slowly, steadily, use the smallest spells you know to uncover the charm. A few spells do not react with others, Wingardium Leviosa for example, will not levitate something that was charmed with a secrecy spell. Do your best, and don't be overambitious, I don't want my classroom littered with bloodied limbs."

Jenni held the orb in her hand. "Professor what are we meant to be feeling? Because I feel a pulsating feel, as if it is alive."

Amanda looked around."Engorgio." she muttered,to make it bigger so she could study it. Her mum had taught severel charms to her right before she left for school.

eliza took out her wand and waved it at the golden ball, "wingardium leviousa".

Nik watched in horror as a very familiar black eagle owl flew through the window of the classroom and perched itself on the Professor's shoulder. A letter was clamped in it's beak and even from this distance, he could see the Vannacutt seal stamped on the envelope. He slouched down in his chair to avoid MacDougal's eyes which were sure to bore straight into his own any minute now.

The ball exploded. Andi rolled her eyes as smoking shard peppered the classroom, some missing her by inches. "I thought I just gave you a very obvious hint that the basic levitation will not work on secrecy charms? Should I get a little flag with red words 'hint' on it and wave it every once in a while?" she added with biting sarcasm.

"If you have cracked it, ideally, your item should open and reveal your homework assignment," said Andi. Maliciously, she was rather pleased that their work would be peppered with more homework.

Tag placed the china glass cat on the desk and pointed his wand at it from several inches. He hadn't done this one all summer, but the others hadn't tried it yet. "Accio cat", he muttered, with a slight flick. The china cat snapped into his sweaty fingers with a *smack*

More smoking shards as yet another girl tried and failed. Andi considered biting her head off for idiocy, after she had already called out another student for failing using Wingardium Leviosa, but her skin was suddenly seared through with color as the owl flapped towards her and held out it's foot with dignity.

The Vannacutt seal was plastered firmly over the flap of the letter, Andi could feel the tingle of charms around it, but the letter opened easily enough in her hands. She read the few lines, and reddened even more as she searched for insult - and found them. The professor was quite capable of finding insult with a brick wall and then blasting it down.

She almost crumpled the letter in her hand, but desisted, half dreading half hoping that the next Hogsmeade weekend would be soon.

Amanda saw a small hole and peered into it.alohomora! she said again

"Ok," Jenni thought, "What did father teach me?" She closed her eyes and ran her hands over the orb, covering every part of the surface. Suddenly she felt the pulsating slow down as if spells were being broken. She kept moving her fingers. She felt the orb open, so she opened her eyes.
"Erm Professor. I've done it."

eliza wanted to shout at the professor but she didn't want to lose anymore points .she held her tongue and examinated the ball again.

Kim had to think of a spell.After awhile she thought Alohomora that Opens lokced objects.Then she thought maybe not cause it is in a ball and the don't lock.Kim thought it was worth a try.Kim put her wand and relaxed and then she said''Alohomora''.

Sean looked at his golden ball and now remembering a spell his sister told him baout he said, "Diffindo" hoping that it would cut open.

Andi slowly went over to the student, her mind elsewhere as she composed letters back to Count Vannacutt. Most of them had to do with May a truck run over you, Vannacutt, May you fall into a pit of poisonous snakes, May a flying pig fall upon your GREAT FAT HEAD -

"Very good," she said dismissively. "You may attempt to help others of the class."

BURN, Vannacutt, BURN.

Natalie didn't know what to do. She didn't know any spells. She was glancing at the other students at the room to see what they were doing. Natalie was mostly afraid of what the teacher would say if she did something wrong. Then she remembered reading the Alohomora opened locks. Even though Natalie has never tried doing that spell before, she decided to risk it. "Alohomora," she whispered.

The china cat cracked on contact with Tag's palm, grew warm and crumbled into a pile of glass ash, revealing a folded paper within. Tag blinked. I hope the professor didn't want that back.

Andi's eyebrows winged up, the letter she was holding crumpled in her clenched fist. "Do you meant to tell me you did no extracurricular reading?" she snapped more irritably than she would have normally (not that that was saying much). "Flip to the back of your textbook, you'll find a list of basic spells there and God help you if you can't even manage those!"

Probably, she had been expecting it slightly, Andi conceded as she blistered the student with a sizzling glare. She had composed the charm of very basic spells.

Nicole had watched what the others had done, and when she had seen a student do it right, she tried to do that also. Yay!! It worked!!! The ornament was now open. She pulled out a small piece of parchment.

"Very good? Is that it? I am the first one to open this thing. Do I not get any house points?" Jenni huffed.

Andi whirled around and glared. "I can make your blood boil and warts grow in unmentionable places, I could get a fire curl into roses and smell as sweet as summer and you want me to give you points for a paltry little piece of work like this?" she snapped.

"Yeah I do. The whole point of points is to reward those that achieve. And here I have." Jenni snapped back.

Max grinned widely as he listened to Professor send insulting words all over the place, though he was sorry for the poor students, he was an 'ickle' firstie' himself, still he fell in love with Macdougall's way of teaching from the very first word she said.

He continued grinning, but his ball suddenly started trembling and Max moved away waiting for any reaction throwing small glances at Andi.

Tag leaned over to the Griffindor boy across the row who was looking around perplexedly. "Try 'Diffindo'", he whispered. "It's a simple cutting spell. Swish and flick."

"You've achieved nothing except my further annoyance and I hope you and Vannacutt are happy," said Andi, forgetting that the students had no idea - and should have no idea - of the relationship - what relationship?! - the antagonistic relations between her and Nikolai's father.

But then, Andrei always could bring out a little more bile in Andi. Almost too much, you might say.

"You seriously think you can break a paltry charm like that and get points for it? I reserve those for people who actually did something noteworthy. Like giving me Vannacutt's head on a platter," she added, under her breath. "Ten points from Slytherin for expecting me to give points to her for managing to get to the toilet in time."

Kim had not luck with the spell she tryed.Then she had a very big thought why not try the bubble spell.Kim pointed her wand at the ball and said bubbles.

Natalie groaned. Another 10 points taken from Slytherin! She shot the girl a mean look, then got back to concentrating on opening the object. "Diffindo," Natalie said quietly.

eliza held back laughter,she tried again "alohomora!" she said,tapping the ball again.

Andi felt the vibration of a spell and swept over. With a tap of her wand, the ball stopped shaking and opened neatly. "Should it have continued, the ball would have broken to pieces, though the message inside was intact," said Andi. "You cracked half of it, and you could have cracked open the ceiling."

Sean tried the same spell again in case he did it wrong the first time, "Diffindo", and he waited for the reaction.

Max leaned over the ball and raised his hand, the one that didn't have a wand in it. "So...", he started his question staring at Professor with some kind of a weird delight on his face. "It wouldn't work the proper way?" He moved his eyes quickly as if he was looking for something. "How can I make it work as it should?"

Kim rolled her eyes that one did not work either.She then pointed her wand at the ball and said''finite''.

eliza didn't even wait to see if it worked . she grabbed it ,remembered what the professor had said about ripping the frog in two , she tried ripping the ball in two.it didn't work "ALOHOMORA" she shouted,tapping the ball furousily.

Natalie watched a girl across the room open the object. She decided to try what she did. Natalie hoped she didn't mind that she was copying. "Difindo," Natalie said, more clearly than the last time. This time the object shook, like the other girl's. "Alohomora," Natalie said excitedly. Natalie grinned happily when the object opened. She grabbed the piece of paper inside, and opened it to read it.

"A combination of spells, but there is no definite way," said Andi, looking oddly at the boy. "Is there something on my face?" she asked, rather menacingly, not used to being stared at like that. Most people were rather in a hurry to avoid her gaze.

Watching everyone around struggling, Jordana shrugged her shoulders and hoped she didn't have as much trouble with her golden ball. She held the orb in her hand and felt it with her fingers. After a few moments, she reached for her wand and placed it a few inches away from the golden ball, and said softly "Diffindo." she watched as the sparks were omitted from the end of her wand and hoped that the outcome of the spell would be successful.

eliza's ball started shaking.she picked up the ball and felt a slow pulse .

emily became increasingly fustrated. "this is useless" she snarled while tapping her ball furiously. "alohamora" she barked. when the spell proved useless emily threw down what was in her opinion "a stupid object" and sat waiting for the professor to finally put her out of her misery and show them how to do it.

The Hufflepuff boy smiled and suddenly blushed looking down. "No..." he put his wand on the table. "I just think that Charms lessons couldn't have been more interesting." He leaned over the ball again, wide smile on his face that couldn't go off. "Sorry..." he added and continued to look for whatever the ball contained, then fished out a small piece of parchement that he immediately started investigating.

"hey i got an idea" kevan said with a smile as he swished his wand and said "alohomora diffindo"

natalie pointed her wand at her ball and thought to herself that she might know one spell that might work. 'finite incantatem!' she tried .

Andi stared at him. And then raised her eyes to the heavens. "Well, thank you for that, Mr. Timmons," she said, with a slight shake of her head. "By the way, a visit to the nurse is imperative if you've hit your head."

She checked the small, gold watch that she carried in the folds of her clothes and realised that class was just about over. A few people had figured out that a brief 'Diffindo' to blow off the charm, and an 'Alohamora' to open the item was one way to undo the spell. With her cracked sense of humor, Andi had charmed it so that flinging it against the wall or giving it a kiss might open the thing too, but she hardly expected anyone to do that.

She tapped the ballerina in her hand with her wand, "Diffindo!" There was a little shatter, even while the doll stayed intact. "Alohamora!" The doll's head came off and a parchment peeked out.

"Everyone who was unsuccessful, kindly copy what I just did."

eliza banged the ball off the table."please open!" she pleaded,placing her wand at a small crack in the ball "ALOHOMORA" she said clearly,hoping it might work."useless" she threw the ball on the floor.

natalie pointed her wand at her ball and said 'diffindo' and then 'alohamora!'
