Ancient Runes Lesson 3 A makeshift, simple door of several wooden planks and cracks in the stone around it are all that is out of the ordinary to remind students of last class' events. On close investigation there appears to be something scratched onto the wood, possibly runes, but they're indistinct. Professor Opteryx is at his desk, waiting for students to arrive as usual. |
Kassie walked in and asked the professor, "Is there a rune or spell I could ues to disable my seer abilities?" |
Josey glanced at the new door as she walked in, but didn't pay it much mind. She walked up to the professor's desk and opened her mouth to say something, but she quickly changed her mind and sat in the first row. |
Patrick walked into the classroom. He noticed the doorway immediately and stopped short to examine it. Then he remembered that he was blocking the doorway and went to sit down. |
Cassandra arrived in the classroom and looked over to the professor at his desk. She opened her mouth to say hello, but froze, mouth wide open. Looking down she began to back up and ended backing into a desk. Thoroughly embarrassed, she ran to her seat, opened a book and burried herself in it. |
Touy came into class behind that Slytherin girl from last class. O well thought Touy she can't have something like that happen in the same class. Touy took a seat near the Slytherin girl she look harmless. I'm sure what ever happen was just the excitment of being locked in the class room. Looking around Touy saw Kassie had entered class. |
Cassandra saw the Ravenclaw how was trying to help her in the last class. She figured, class hasn't started yet, so she could say hello. "Hi, I'm Cassandra... uhmmm thanks... you know... for last time." She smiled and went back to her book. |
Ariana came into the classroom and went right to the back of the class, not feeling all that great. She pulled out her books and looked around at the students who were coming in. |
Sebastian walked into the classroom and sat down near the back, waiting for the class to begin. It had been a long day so far that he wanted over quickly. |
Rosalie walked into the room, and scanned the empty desks for any promising possabilities. After a moment, she opted to take the empty desk next to Cassandra, who she recognized from her own house. "Hey Cassandra." Rosalie greeted her through a yawn as she pulled out her chair, and sat down. Before placing her head on her folded arms, which laid on the table top, Rosalie gathered her long auburn hair into one hand and bound it into a messy braid, then tied it off with a piece of black leather. |
Hi Cassandra I'm Touy nice to meet you. I was glad to be there. I hope this will be a nice normal class today. Anyways it was nice to meet you. Touy was glad that Cassandra seem ok with no lasting effects from last class. Touy scouched her chair up to the table it was hard being so short. |
Cassandra heard her name being called and looking up from her book saw Rosalie. "Hey Rosalie! Did you see? Slytherin's in the lead... and guess who put us there!" She smiled more than proud of herself. Cassandra then smiled at Touy and nodded in agreement. She dropped her gaze towards her book again. |
"Well I made five points in Defence Against Dark Arts, but I suppose Professor Rae hasn't put in the points yet." She responded with a shrug, then glanced up at Professor Opteryx. "Actually...I'll be right back Cass..." Alie said. She stood up from her desk, and approached the front of the room, where he was seated. It only took her about four long strides to cross the room. She was a girl on a mission. "Excuse me Professor Opteryx, would it be alright if I spoke to you for a moment after class?" She asked him. "Unless now would suffice. I just had one question, and I can't track down any of the Professors that are not already busy." She explained. |
Tasha stood in the hall facing the new door. She stepped one foot inside the class and mumbled, "In?", and she immediately stepped back out into the corridor,"Out?" After the week she had had with locked doors, Tasha contemplated ever stepping into another class again. "In?"...."Out?"...."In?"....realizing what a fool she must have looked like, she looked hastly at the floor and quickly found a seat towards the back of the class. "What in the world was I just doing?" She asked herself as she pulled out her runes book. Opened it to a random page and began to scan the pages as if interested. "This is so not me! Why am I so freaked out over a couple of magically locked doors? I am in a school of magic. Stuff like this is bound to be normal." With a glance around the room, she thought, "I hope." |
Marie walked inside the class. She was glad that she wasn't late. She Went Directly to the back of the classroom. She opened her bag. Get out her quill, ink & a piece of parchment. Since the lesson wasn't beggun decide do some drawing on the corner of the parchment & waited for the start of the lesson. |
Sana entered the Class. She looked over the class for a minute. Then she hurridly passed over the chatting crowd and sat next to her friend Marie. She said hi to Maire and continued her talk. She asked, " when did you come? I thought I'm late today!" Started to unpack her Bag. |

Seer abilities? Why would anyone want to supress those, he wondered to himself. Quote:

Marie who was absord by her drawin' didn't see Sana comin'. So she had a bit of suprise when she heard her voice. "I arrive just couple minutes ago. And no you're not late. Don't worry about that" Said Marie with a calm voice. |
Moira sat down at a desk about midways between the Professor and the door. She took out her parchment and quill and prepared for the class to begin. The Professor was speaking to a student and she did not want to interrupt so she would just wait before she approached him. She wanted so much to get her stone translated. She knew that it would be a bad idea to pin her hopes on this Professor being able to even read the Runes in the first place the teacher at the Salem’s Institute couldn’t. She gazed down at the stone that she held gingerly in her hand and examined the markings carefully. All that she was able to tell was that it was covered in some sort of symbols, but they were so strange almost more like writing than the runes that had been covered so far in class. She rubbed her hand over the stone and for just a moment thought that it had glowed with an eerie green light. |
Beck sat down at an empty desk and wondered what weirdness would be going on during this lesson. |

"A 'reversed' or 'inverted' rune, or sometimes as a 'merk stave', refers to a rune that rotated when it was cast." She said sounding as if she was reading directly from the book "I read somewhere that whether or not reversed runes have any special meaning is a matter of debate. I know from experience that Tarot cards have different meanings when they fall reversed compared to those they have normally, since Tarot cards have asymmetrical designs. This is not the case though with the runes, where only just over half are reversible. So professor, is the concept of reversal something which has been inherited from Tarot, and as such is of modern origin? Or is there a historical precedent?" |

Kassie went rigid again and once more her voice went hoarse," The One is coming." she said. Then she went back to getting her stuff out of her bag. She had a strange feeling she had just used her 'gift'. |
Sana adjusted herself as more comfortable manner. She scrubbed her chin with her brand new Red colour Quill and had think about the answer of the terms 'inverted' and reverse'. But adamently her mind was running back to some other interesting thing. And also she noticed her friend Marie as she scribbled something on her parchment. |
Sara walked in with everything about her askew: her clothes, her hair, even her mouth which had a slight tilted frown to it at the moment. You could slightly hear her grumbling under her breath...something about mornings or something. She had her bag on her shoulder and you could just see a bright red hairbrush sticking out from under the flap. She sat down next to Patrick and threw her bag on the ground under the table. She quickly grabbed for the brush and brushed her hair. Then screwing her face up she changed her hair to a deep red and her eyes became bright purple. Then, she took her wand out and waved it in a circular motion in front of her face muttering a quick spell to put her make-up on perfectly. She took out a mirror and held it in front of her. She looked fine, at the moment though she SO didn't care! She stood up fixing her clothes then sat back down, grumbling some more. She looked to Patrick looked like she was going to say something then stopped, quickly closing her mouth shut. She started thinking about the letter from her mother then stopped. You know what, she thought, I'm not going to waste my time thinking about her and her fiancee. I'm going to think about my schoolwork. That way I can become an Auror and get away from that awful woman with that awful man! She looked to the board and read the instructions. Huh...there was something to think about. She turned her mind to the task at hand. |
