"Professor," Sean asked with his hand up, "What exactly is the purpose of having people's names translated into runes if it doesn't describe them most of the time?" |
Rave wrote quietly at her desk. Quote:

Yashu tried writing his name in rune on his piece of parchment. Quote: Quote:

Falas followed the professor's instructions and started to translate her name. She took a deep breath, knowing that her name was quite long, this was going to take a while... But she didnt care, ancient runes was her favourite class, she loved doing this. Quote: Quote: She then read the translation and tilted her head, raising an eyebrow. She let out a small "Hmmmmm..." and then shrugged. Some of the meanings are just way out there, the exact opposite of Falas. She wriggled her nose slightly and must admit that not all of them are false. |

Yashu put his hand up. "sir, is it ok if we use a different textbook for the meanings of the runes?" |

Serena pondered the meanings for a while she listened to other students speak up about their own interpretations. Quote:
Satisfied with her interpretation, she set her quill down and quietly listened as the professor answered questions. She’d have to admit that the runes that comprised her name described her quite accurately. |
Listening very careful to professor, Tesija took notes hardly. She followed the meaning of each rune in her name, trying to understand the purpose of Ancient Runes. It seamed to be a magical code for Tesija. Quote:
A wise and elated by success, yet secludes herself from society. Courageous, bright and ambitious, quick-witted/temper. Tesija read over the characterization, and in her opinion it was indeed accurate. |
Moira neverously raised her hand. "Excuse me Professor, but if the translation of a persons name does not fit the characteristics of that person. Couldn't they take the traits that best describe their personality and look them up instead?" For example, I like research. So couldn't I tranfer that into runes to find out more about my self?" When she had asked her question she gazed at the Professor and awaited his response. She had her quill in hand ready and anxious to take notes. In the hope that what she learned in this class would help her to learn more about her family. |

"Now, if there are no more questions, I'll assign the homework. I'd like you to pick one spell that you've learned and convert the written incantation into runic script, and then write down the meanings of the runes and an interpretation of the rune string. Don't worry if the interpretation doesn't make any sense or doesn't relate to the spell whatsoever. Also, I'd like you to write down up to three questions on Ancient Runes that you have or what you would like to learn more about in class. Homework is due two weeks from now, on the 25th of August. Feel free to drop by my office for any help. Class dismissed." |
Amber scralled out the homework onto her parchment. She gathered up her things and stuffed them into her messenger bag. As she walked out, she nodded her thanks to the Professor and headed to the common room. |
Rave wrote down the homework and gave Professor Opteryx a wide grin as he said feel free to drop by. She certainly would. "Thank you very much for the wonderful class Professor." she said with a slight flush in her cheeks as she gathered her books and walked out of the classroom. |
Touy was pleased with her Rune interpation of her name and the discription seemed to fit. She gathered her books and parchment and stuffed them into her bag with the note she had copied about her home work. |
Listening closely, Lauren copied the homework and due date that Professor Opteryx recited, directly under the runes translation and interpretation of her name. As she gathered up her things, finally thinking to bring a bag for her quill and parchment book for convenience, she pondered what spell she would use for the assignment. There were many that she learned in her first term at Hogwarts already - it felt as if she was being bombarded with magical incantations; there was so much she hadn't known before! - that she knew it would be hard to decide on just one. She wanted to choose a spell to interpret that she really liked because she thought that would interpret more about her own self, not just a random spell that had no relevance, but she hadn't been doing magic long enough to find a "favorite." She'd have to do some searching, and she was terribly glad that her professor had given them two weeks to do it. |
Alicia listened to the professor, then copied down her homework in her homework book, snapped it shut with a rubber band, and then packed up her belongings. "whoa, 2 weeks for homework" she smiled, then she left the classroom. |
Siriana scratched the homework on her parchment and packed her things. She thanked the Professor for the lesson and walked out of the classroom really content about this class. She thought Ancient Runes wouldn't be fun, but the Professor proved otherwise and she was glad. |
katie wrote down the homework down and some notes and then left |
Beck wrote down the homework, packed her things in her bag, stood up and gave a big stretch and headed out the door. |
Josey wrote down the homework assignment and put her things in her bag. She then stood up and left the room. |
After taking her notes and placing everything neatly inside her satchel she walked over to the Professor. "I look forward to discussing my theory with you at your convenience." she said more confused about Runes than ever before if this worked then there would be so many more possiblities for interpretation. She thanked the Professor and told him that the lesson was very interesting and that she could not wait for the next class. She left the room with the knowledge that she still had a lot to learn. |
Tia jotted down the last of what the Professor had said and tried not to groan as he announced the homework. She had already so much to do. She felt a twinge of guilt as she thought of the pile of homework she had not completed. She would definitely finish this one in time, she promised herself, trying not to feel too guilty. After all, the homework did sound pretty interesting. Really, it did. Well, kind of, anyway, if she could manage to not get all tangled up while trying to complete it. Gathering her belongings, as she did at the end of every class, she rose and re-arranged her bag on her shoulder. She smiled politely at the Professor - He always reminded her of Professor Mao-macdougal's last, disastrous class. But, then again, it hadn't entirely been his fault. "Great class, Professor," she said, passing him on the way outside. She waved to Siriana when she saw her friend, and quietly left the class. |
