Ancient Runes Class 1 Professor Opteryx opened the classroom door and, after taking a glance around, settled down at his desk and waited for the students to arrive to the first Ancient Runes class of the term. |
eliza walked in"hello professor!" ,she sat down. |
Jamie bounced into the classroom, his messenger bag bouncing with him. Tucked inside was Sergent GusGus, the rodent's nose sticking out lightly, depsite Jamie's best attempts to get him to hide. Obviously, it wasn't going to work. He took a seat and glanced up at the Professor, nodding a hello, before settling down to a doodle on a scrap of parchment paper, waiting for his friends' arrivals. |
Becky entered the classroom and took a seat..."Hello Professor" |
Brittany came in and saw a boy sitting by himself she asked could "I sit right here" (Jamie) |
Sean walked into class and sat down. Spotting Ariana, he called over to her to sit next to him. |
Ariana walked in, looking around and sat down at the back of the class. She was hoping she would learn something, she was interested in this class but had a feeling she would be bad at it. She took out her quills and parchment and said to the professor "Hello professor, good to meet you!" |
Amber walked into the classroom with high spirits. This, along with Defense Against the Dark Arts, was her favorite class. She found runes utterly intriuging and loved carving them into charms for her friends. She sat down at a desk near the front intent on not missing a single bit of information. She smiled at the professor. "Good day, Professor Opteryx." she said as she folded her hands and waited for class to begin. |
Rave walked into her favorite class and gave Professor Opteryx a wide smile. "Hello Professor, I hope your doing well." she said as she sat down in the very front of the class. |
Emily walked into the classroom smiling when she noticed she actually knew someone. Emily sat down and waited for the class to start. |
Evy walked into the room silently and took a seat in the front row. |
Brittany saw that he didn't say anything so she took a seat somewhere else. |
Ariana got up and noticed Sean waving her over. She quickly moved over to his spot and whispered a quick "Hey." and put her stuff down. |
Jordana walked into class and noticed that there were already a few people there. She smiled at the Professor as she passed his desk, and made her way to an empty seat in the back of the class. She sat down and waited for class to commence. |
"Hey. You ready for class?" Sean asked her. |
Josey walked into class and sat down in the middle of the room. She was excited to learn about Ancient Runes; it was like learning a foreign language! |
Vicky walked into the crowded classroom and quickly took a seat in the front.She took out her book and waited for the class to start. |
Jamie nodded at the Gryffindor girl. "You can if you wish," he said, before noticing Amber entered the room. He liked being able to recognize people in class. He settled back with his doodle and continued to work on it, a bushy cat like figure. |
Ariana nodded at Sean and replied "I guess so. Just hope I answer one question right." she looked around waiting for the lesson to start. |
"Yeah, me too." Sean said to Ariana. |
Prancie entered the classroom and sat happily |
Beck walked into the room and took a seat, pulled out her book, parchment and quill ready to start the class. |
Brittany had seen the girl beck that she had meet in the common room she smiled at beck and then got her notebook out and her quill. |
Jen entered the classroom, finally in a good mood. Her bag thudded against her leg as she stopped short, scanning the room for a familiar face. Her eyes landed on a head of brown curls that was all too familiar and a smile made it's way onto her face. "Jamie!," she exclaimed making her way over and taking a seat beside him. She smiled widely as she pulled out a quill and waited for the lesson to begin. |

Professor Opteryx nodded to each student as they entered the room and greeted him. He reckognized a few familiar faces amongst the bunch, including Rave and Evy and a few more he c "Alright, welcome to Ancient Runes. This class we'll be running through the concept of Ancient Runes quickly just to refresh everyone and bring you all up to speed. First of all, what are Ancient Runes and what are they used in Muggle mythology and history?" |

Angel was seated a row to the side and a seat back from Evy. "Hello" she said softly as she took out her note taking material. She gave her fellow hufflepuff a friendly smile and then started glancing about the room. |
Jordana raised her hand and said, "Ancient Runes have been used as a means of obtaining answers from a Higher Source. I'm not sure of what else they could have been used for. That's all I recall at the moment." she said with a faint smile. |
Jamie raised his hand. "In Muggle history, Runes were used as a form of writing, sort of. Hylogrphyics, I think they were called? But, anyway, Runes sometimes told writing, but in some mythologies, they used them almost like a form of Divination." |

Sean raised his hand and said, "Ancient Runes are also used for amulets and charms as well as for rituals and for oracles." |
Brittany didn't want to take a chance and say the wrong answer so she just sat there. |
Ariana didn't bother to lift her hand up, since everyone else pretty much answered it correctly. She didn't know anything about Ancient Runes anyway, that's why she was here. |
saeda raised her hand and said "Ancient Runes are used for amulets and charms ''. |
Angel raised her hand. "Runes are an ancient Germanic alphabet, used for writing, divination and magic. They were used throughout northern Europe, Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Iceland from about 100 B.C.E. to 1600 C.E." |
Josey rested her chin on her hand as she quickly took notes on the other students' answers. The class had barely started and already they were learning a lot! |
Beck's eye crossed at all the answers that were being fired off so quickly. She didn't know anything about Runes, and she had read the book ahead of time. She quickly wrote down all the information that was being said and tried to pay close attention. |
Serilda jot down some notes and quickly read through a little bit of her textbook. "Hrm..." she murmrured, studying one of the runes. She drew a model rune in her notebook and attempted to translate some of the words and symbols on the rune. |
Sebastian rose his hand. "The ancient Egyptians used runes to write to each other. In fact, many cultures used symbols, instead of actual letters to sybolize certain meanings." |
Amber raised her hand. "Runes were originally used as a writing system by the Anglo Saxons, which devolped into our modern writing today. In a magical sense, however, they can be used to do divinations, good luck charms, and talismans that react differently depending on the other runes they are paired with, or how they written. Runes can be very effective or dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. |
Ariana wrote down everything everyone said, not wanting to miss a single thing. She began doodling a rune onto her notes, not really seeing what she was drawing. She looked up to the professor, waiting. |
Jewil said knowing she was really late on the subject but filling the teacher had not said anything meant the answers where not right. "UMMM... The Ancient Vikings believed that the Runes were the gift of Ódhinn, and The runes are inextricably bound to Norse mythology." Knowing she was late she looked at her hands. |

Beck raised her hand "To make the writing magic, you have to have the correct tree, herb or stone associated with the symbol." |
Ariana thought about this and raised her hand as she guessed in a small voice "Um, shouldn't you perform a small ritual before casting them? I mean, like putting them in a bag and swirling them around then placing them as they fall softly onto your hand or something like that..." her voice trailed off as her answer sounded dumb to her. She blushed a bright red colour and covered her face in her hands. |
Angel wasn't sure of her answer but she gave it a shot. "There are three sources on divination that give vague descriptions to runes. They are Tacitus' Germania, Snorri Sturluson's Ynglinga saga and Rimbert's Vita Ansgari. No one is sure though if they have anything in common. Are any of us even close Professor?" Angel asked. |
"I've heard rumours of certain spells being cast on runes to make them mean certain things and do certain things, but I'm not entirely certain," Sebastian said, answering the teacher's question. |
Jordana raised her hand, "Professor, isn't writing something in runes a spell in itself? Because you are bringing the statement into concrete reality. A way of using the runes for magic is to write out rune rows, or rune scripts." she was probably wrong but it didn't matter, she was there to learn. |
"Don't you need to figure out what it means first?" Jackie asked. She had been sitting in the back of the classroom, "Something bad is likely to happen if you don't translate it correctly." she said, pretty sure it was a good answer |
Ariana put her head on the desk and groaned. She knew she had been dead wrong, she felt liek a fool for even trying. She was better at DADA and Diviniation then anything. She sighed and put her head back up, waiting patiently. |
Kay had no idea what the correct answer was, so she poised her quill over her notebook and prepared to write the answer down when it was given. |
Vicky raised her hand after she remembered something she'd read in a book. "Shouldn't somebody find windfall branches in order to burn the rune glyph after the branches are cut and finally...make Runes...?"she said, still not so sure. |
"The runes have to be consecrated in some way." she said, sounding as if she knew what she was talking about, but in reality was rather unsure. "This can be done through carving them a certain way, performing a ritual as some have stated, or as I have seen some do, tracing the carved rune with blood." |
Alicia writ these notes down in her notebook, then pen poised she raised her hand "Runes, are a mixture of Ancient symbols, Heirogliphs and texts, a single, or a group of them forms clues, and Ancient History" Alicia said, hoping that it was correct. |
"you may have to do a ritual.i've seen someone trace runes on a floor with chalk ,light candles and say a sort of chant." eliza said,remembering the time she saw that,it sent shivers up her spine. |

Jewil looked around. She really didn't understand but she would write everything down and study her notes and if she still dident understand she would ask. She was ready for the small activity what ever it was. |
Prancie raised her hand, "Um, is there a certain material that all runes are written on? Like, are they all written in stone?" |
Siriana wrote on her parchment everything that was said by the Professor and her classmates. She was happy Ravens earned some points and more happy her friend Jordana did. She was listening attentively, having no idea about Ancient Runes it sounded fascinating to her. |
Cassandra was so pleased with herself. She was gaining house points! She pulled her book out of her bag and listened. |
Rose sat back absorbing every word. In muggle school she was always eager to respond and was always correct. Here she found herself a metaphorical fish out of water. What used to come easily took a little more effort, and Rose was not used to effort. Instead she just tried her best to keep up with the topics and lessons and classes. |
Nicole was pretty sure she understood this, but it was a bit confusing. She decided to look over her notes again when the class was over. She owuld probably need to, anyway. |

Jewil looked at the girl who had asked the qusition thinking. 'that girl is brave I would of never been able to ask that qustion and not get in troble with my luck.' She smiled at the girl and turnded back to the prof waiting for the answer. |
Nate found this class fascinating; he looked up from his notes as he heard a girl ask 'What kind of activity will be be doing professor?'. He was very anxious to hear the Professor's reply. |

Finished transcribing her name with runes in one creative way after another (it was amazing how neat these symbols looked in bubble letters, outlined, filled in, written in different colors), Lauren decided she should probably stop messing around with doodles and actually do something productive. So, she turned to another page of parchment and, one step behind Professor Opteryx, copied the notes from the board. Afterwards, she opened her textbook and wrote down the same keywords for each symbol. She wasn't sure what they meant ... but she knew she'd find out in due time. |
