| | |  What In Merlin's Beard...?! (Term 12)
A bit confused about the plot? Housemates talking about a mysterious something going bump in the night? Here's where you can catch up on happenings around the castle-- Out of Character of course.
That means that unless your student character heard this stuff from other students, your student character doesn't know about it.
Oh, and a reminder to all to only post updates on the school plot here. Chat goes in the school chat thread. Have fun!

The term has begun, with the staff talking amongst themselves of the Sorting Hat, and a food fight amongst the Houses has resulted in all the Houses beginning the term with NEGATIVE house points--a rare occurance indeed. Samea, school poultergist, was last seen singing a cryptic (or nonsensical, take your pick) poem to a student. Is she just fooling around as usual? The Gryffindor Commons have been trashed! And not just the Gryffindor Commons, but it appears that all four common rooms have been upturned. Students have been told to stay in the Great Hall until the staff figures out how bad it is, and who did it. The common rooms are now better than before, but the staff still has no idea who or what did the mess. Strange riddles have been found in the Common rooms, picked up by various students from all the Houses. Each one appears to be different...what does it all mean? Aaaand...Professor Branxton and Headmistress Rae are currently engaged! But there was a small mixup on Professor Lainley's part, who sent out invitations to the staff that Rae and McAiken were engaged. The mistake was cleared up without too much ado, though Lainley passed out when McAiken proposed to her.
Rave Stone of Slytherin and Lua Stone of Gryffindor have put their heads together to crack their riddle, as well as Whende of Gryffindor and her small group of friends, including Davina (Hufflepuff), Kay (Ravenclaw) and Elijah (Ravenclaw). Godric's portrait has been sought out by one of the students, and apparently he knows something of the riddle. Where is this all leading to?
Update: Headmistress Rae became victim of a Dark artefact, but appears to be recovering and in good health.
Several students have been on the scent of the riddles, the most prominent group including Rave (Slytherin), Lee (Hufflepuff), Lua (Gryffindor), Kay (Ravenclaw), Linnea (Ravenclaw) and Matt (Slytherin). (There were a few more, but this chronicler has since lost track.) Currently the clues have lead them to the Restricted Section of the Library in the dead of night...looking for something.
Further update: After being caught and then overpowering the librarian, the group of students have found...THE BOOK. After a 2-3 year absence from notice, the Book has been found. The students then decided to hand the book over to Rae, resulting in a squabble between Lee, Linny and Matt as to who gets to carry it there. Matt appears to be more than he seems to be, with his own hidden agenda...will the students survive the night?

Please do no fear to seek this individual out. Regardless of any history we may have had with the Ministry in the past, there is now a spirit of cooperation I hope you will all honor." She didn't dare to glance down at Doyle to gauge his reaction to that.
She sighed as the long list of new arrivals was finished. "I know there has been some hesitancy over the food and drink after the situation that occured last term, but I assure you... the problem has been dealt with." She picked up her goblet and drank boldly from it to show her faith in the house elves. "And now... enjoy the feast. Eat and drink as much as you can hold, for tomorrow brings magic and merriment, as well as lessons and laughter. I wish you all the best this term, and I promise you... my door is always open. If you have the password. If you do not, I will find a way to hear you regardless." She smiled vaguely and nodded at Algamus before taking a seat. Headmistress Rae has made her speech. ^^

We all lost points because of some very irresponsible students who got involved in a food fight at the opening feast.
Classes haven't started yet, and there isn't a set schedule for when they will start. Some teachers will announce when their lessons will begin, although some wont. So, you'll have to keep a look out at all the threads in case they do.

POINT UPDATE! Ravenclaws are down to -39 thanks to some irresponsible first time RPers chatting away in Potions. From what I've heard the quidditch captain has gone commando on them.

Ravenclaw has (once again) pulled out of the negative column and last place, and into the lead. In Quidditch, all four team captains are currently holding their tryouts for the house teams. The final rosters are due to Professor McAiken by May 5th. Hey, don't forget Ancient Runes class points as well.  You must have added those after I was offline!

Is it just me or does it seem that Professor Ganymede Craft is adament on making sure the Slytherins win the house cup this year? She had been giving any Slytherin that seems concerned tips to get house points...Favoritism??

You know, I used to do that when I first started the Merlin's Beard threads, but it's rather...difficult to figure out what the weather is. Currently, it's late Autumn (September) at Hogwarts, so sunny weather should be normal...usually I try to calculate what month we're in too, and if students like that idea, I'll revive the ol' "current weather" part of the Merlin's Beard updates on the first post. What say you?
