Professor Branxton walked past the queue of students waiting outside the potions classroom and unlocked the door. He fixed it open and then made his way to his desk, allowing the students to enter and settle themselves.

ooc note: I'm going to leave this thread open overnight so that those who were unable to attend the class will still be able to brew their potion. I will not be monitoring the thread but, that doesn't mean that Professor Branxton is not here and supervising. Please don't blow stuff up or die while I'm not able to RP (also note that if you die in the RP, you can't participate in the RP for the rest of the term and you will need to create a new character to play next term as the current one will ahve died).

For those just coming in, we are brewing the Hair-changing Potion. The directions can be found in your Potions Textbook.

Katie thought potions class was exciting so far. She raised her hand to answer the question. "I suppose that you should keep in mind what the potion is supposed to look like after each step," Katie said.

doug raised his hand and said, "rate of stirring, knowing when, how much, and which ingredient to add, review your instructions before brewing and above all, remain focused on your brewing."

Jordana raised her hand and said, "When brewing potions isn't it vital that you evenly cut and consistently cut and grind the ingredients." Convinced that her answer was wrong Jordana didn't care. If she was wrong then she was wrong and there was nothing wrong with that.

Ayumi raised her hand. "Umm making sure that you add all of the ingrediendts in the proper order, and making sure that your measurements are precise and correct."

vicky raised her hand again and said "it could be to be carefull to add exacly the same measurement that the ingredients must have so that the potion doesn´t change.. only one ingredient could screw it all"

lua rainsed her hands not really sure what the professor was asking and said "Erm, ingredients, without them can't do a potion there are also other things: Alchemy skill & Fauna, Flora, & Herb Lore skills, which can Can improve substance preparation and the potion brewing process. There is also Herb Mastery spells whichCan increase the potency of crops. In addition to Horticulture skill which can achieve certain special properties."

These were the things Marianne drummed into him when he tried to cook at home, and he figured they applied to Potions as well.

"Patience is a good-natured tolerance of delay while persistence is continuing or repeating behavior. While they can go hand in hand, they are not the same thing," Professor Branxton answered. "What I was looking for was, in addition to skills, what other things must be considered, such as safety measures and ingredient preparation. Perhaps a more direct question would be best. What kinds of safety measures must one take when brewing a potion?"

Lori took down notes and raised her hand. "You should have acurate knowlegde of the potion you are to brew and have all the right ingredients with the right measurements" she said.

"In addition, you also have to excercise caution when brewing a potion, for when an accident occurs, you may not know the antidote. Caution and Knowledge sort of go together because you have to know what you're doing to avoid accidents"

Lola's hand shot up again she just remembered something,"No goofing off why brewing you are brewing your potion, don't be socializing with other people while brewing your potion, pay complete attention to what you are doing while you are brewing potions.

Shell raised her hand, 'Excuse me Professor, one must always have the ingredients for an antidote should anything go wrong. Also, it's important to ensure others around you are prevented from harm...............

Novalus thought for a moment and put up his hand " not goofing around, making sure your cauldron is on a flat surface and out of the reach of people that are too young, proper equipment like gloves" he said

"Safety goggles are usually unnecessary. This isn't muggle kem-tryst-tree," he smiled at his own joke, then cleared his throat. "Very good everyone. I can see that you are all impatient to start brewing the first potion of the term, or in the case of first years, your first potion. Any questions before we begin?"
