Professor Light hurried into the classroom, notes in hand, wand in hair... she tossed everything down on the desk, and hurried about the room, moving this way and that, pushing the desks into a somewhat normal arrangement. Finished! And just in time... I'm going to start soon. Professor Light stepped back and smiled at her ablity to arrange the room in under 30 seconds... And before any students showed up! I ought to get an award or something... haha... Professor Light was still putting her wand up into it a messy curly ponytail as the students began to enter. | |

Professor Light clapped her hands together as two hands shot up shouting "vaccum cleaner".
"Excellent, that's what I expected you to come up with, it's a very common and useful Muggle device."
Professor Light smiled as a Ravenclaw girl mentioned the dust-buster. "Ah yes, a mini-vacuum of sorts, those things are handy. You three may each take 2 points for your house for being the first."
Professor Light then listened as the other students suggested some ideas as well. "Yes, yes, all correct."

Rave looked around surprised at how many ideas the other students came up with. She was lucky she even pronunced vacuum right! 'They must be Muggle-born or at least half and half' she thought to herself Either that or they have very muggle like parents' Rave sighed as she thought of her parents, she still had to write them that letter.

Erin, thinking of another electricity-powered muggle cleaning device, put her hand up again. "Oh, and there are things called carpet cleaners," she mentioned. "I've never used one, but from what my mum said, they basically just suck dirt out of the carpet."

"Ok then, judging by all of your hands, most of you know pretty much about Muggle cleaning already. But I'd like to go in depth about one particular object."
Professor Light stopped and when over to the cupboard. She wheeled out an old vacuum. It had a bag attached and a long handle, and the bottom looked sort of like the front of a Muggle car, only much smaller.
"This," Professor Light started, "Is a rather common Muggle vacuum."

"Let me give you just a brief history... this is the part you might want to write down." she nodded at the students, most of whom hadn't even bothered to pull out their pencils yet.

Although vacuums had been around long before this, no idea had really trademarked their idea or made one that was useful enough that the public might actual believed it was worth money."
"Now, the first vacuums were huger than this, and highly inconvient, and we all know that that is something you want when cleaning, convienience. Think about it, if the job was harder with the object, you wouldn't use it, would you?"

Professor Light rolled the vacuum over to a carpet square she had sitting on the side of the room.
"Ok now, I'm going to turn this on... the noiseis very loud, and if you've never heard one of these before, I just want to warn you so I don't have anyone jumping out of their seats."
Professor Light looked at the students and then switched a power button to "On". A loud VROOOOOOMMMM noise filled the room as the vacuum lit up and the bag inflated slightly.

Professor Light shouted over the noise, "AS YOU CAN SEE, VACUUMS ARE QUITE NOISY... YOU MIGHT THINK THAT THIS EFECT ENOUGH WOULD BE BAD ENOUGH TO TURN SOMEONE OFF OF A VACUUM. BUT OBSERVE."
Professor Light left the vacuum running on the carpet square and pulled out a jar of dark brown dirt. She tossed it over the carpet. She gripped the handle of the vacuum tightly and began to shout over the noise again, "ALL I NEED TO DO NOW IS RUN THIS OVER THE DIRT, LIKE THIS..." She began to move the vacuum back and forth, and as she did so, the dirt was sucked into the vacuum. Some of it still remained, but the carpet was practically back to it's original color.

Brittany covered her ears when the professor didn't seem like shutting it off soon. She observed how the dirt got sucked up into the vacum..but to her it was uninteresting as she had seen her Mom do it a million times (and a few times herself) at home. Brittany nodded and smiled to show the Professor she was paying attention though.

Erin watched the vacuum suck up the dirt from the floor. She yawned, feeling a bit bored. Muggle Studies was one of her favorite classes, but Erin sometimes found it tedious, due to the fact that she was muggleborn and knew a lot of the things they talked about already.

Professor Light noticed the students getting slightly bored and decided to let them try. She flicked off the vacuum and said, "Anyone want to pick up some dirt? It's entirely thrilling!" she joked to her students.
"So, who wants to give this a go? Any of our purebloods interested in trying? Everyone can try, but I think it'll be pretty monotonous for anyone who is Muggleborn." she looked at the class ready for a volunteer as she threw some more dirt on the carpet square.
