Rose raided her hand. "I have found that wizards and muggles have more in common than most think. I mean, wizards have magic, but they also still use candles to light rooms. Just because muggles don't have magic, wizards sometimes view them in a less intelligent manner. But I think muggles are more advanced, only because they have had to overcome a barrier to accomplish what the wizards have. They have even gone beyond that and have done things that magic can't do. I think that if wizards embraced the muggle lifestyle, they could be an unstoppable force, combining technology and magic. But it seems like wizards are content being segregated." Rose had been keeping this sentiment quiet for some time. It seemed like her views were not prevalent and popular among the magical community. |
Professor Light listened intently to the conversations. She tried her best not to interupt, because she was really interested in what the students had to say. She didn't want give her opinion and deter anyone else from their's, either. "You all brings up very good points, and it's good to see that most of you have a rather unbiased opinion on Muggles. Sadly, many do not share this opinion, which is why we often have trouble with people who think they, for the betterment of the muggle community, needed to elimate all traces of Muggles. Some of these people would be, of course, Voldemort, and Voldemortist." she paused, and watched as a few students recoiled slightly at the sound of his name, even so many years later. "But Rose brings up a great point... many Muggles are actually smarter than us in some ways. No one wants to admit that possibly we aren't the best, but think about it... how many things have we taken from Muggles and merely adapted with our magic? How helpless would we all be without ours wands... but Muggles never have wands... Imagine tomorrow, there was, forbid, no such thing as magic. What would you do? Would you be able to adapt to the Muggle lifestyle? Now think about a Muggle suddenly aquiring magic ability... they can still do everything they learned with no magic... but suddenly, they have something extra." "Looking at my own personal history and the backgrounds of many of the my friends, some of the most sucessful wixards have some type of Muggle background. I'm definitely not saying we should all swear off magic forever, but it really does give you something to think about. Our other Rose," she smiled, nodding toward the Hufflepuff girl, "Mentioned that if we subtract magic, we would be just like them. There is really no denying how true this is." "To lead us back on topic, I'd like to add this last detail... The muggles don't get everything from us... we get plenty of things from Muggles... that feather duster so many of our parents charm to clean the house is originally a MUGGLE creation. So now think about this... Muggles live without knowing our existence, but where would we be not knowing their exisitence?" she paused. "I know I'm off toic, persay, but this might show up on a final assignment, but not in detail so don't worry about taking notes, but try to remember that this conversation did occur!" she laughed. Getting some of her Muggle feelings off her had really made her feel better. She figured it still wouldn't stop the headaches though. |
Samantha chewed on her quill as she listened to the lecture. Even though she had some Muggle blood in her, she had been raised by wizards and had never really been around muggles much. From what she had heard though, she just thought it would be really dull to be a Muggle. Quote:
Then Samantha remembered something and added, "Professor--since we're on the subject, I've always wanted to know...I have a cousin who is a Squib. Is that the same as being a Muggle? She seems to do many things the Muggle way but I was never sure." |
Thinking about the professor's last question, Rose thought about it. Where would wizards be if it wasn't for muggles? She raised har hand and said, "Well, we probably wouldn't have come as far. We would have to invent all the things that we used from muggles. We'd start with just...magic. All we really have is magic." Rose tapped her quill against her chin. "This is a 'what if' situation, isn't it? Well, we would just think that we were here and always here. Would we give it a second thought about other 'people'?" |
Professor Light nodded at Samantha, Quote:
"Exactly the same, really. Just a normal person who can't do magic. Squibs really personify just how related we really are... They are related to us, come from the came genetic makeup... and here we have a perfectly normal person who simply can't do magic. Very interesting point." Professor Light gave her approval to the student with a nod and a smile. Quote:
"Actually, I think we might. For instance, I myself am Muggleborn." she did everything in her power from thinking about her current family situation and continued on. "And even when I was little, and knew nothing about the magical world, I would tell my parents that I wish I could just get that cookie out of the jar by thinking about it... of course they told me that was impossible, but even at a young age I wondered about it. I just didn't think they were there. You do have an excellent point though..." she smiled and nodded in approval. "I'm afraid I have to just away from this subject for now, but if you are interested in talking about this more, I'm always available in my office. Also, I suggest taking Muggle studies next year... hint hint." she said, winking at the students. Ooc: please don't post in this color in this thread just because I want people who read back on the lesson to easily be able to pull out my posts. Thanks :) |
OOC: LESSON IS BACK ON, and STARTING RIGHT NOW :) |
This shouldn't last more than an hour if I get some participants Professor Light walked back and forth in the front of the rom, happy to have distracted her class for a little bit with an otherwise boring lesson topic. But it was now time to finish up. "Ok everyone, we are almost done... now, beside sthis feather duster, can anyone tell me any itmes that are commonly used in wizard cleaning? Chances are many of them relate to Muggle cleaning, so even if you are just guessing, go for it, you might be right." |
"Well," Erin said, raising her hand. "There are all kinds of magical cleaners and mess removers. Of course, they aren't the same kinds of cleaning sprays that muggles use, but they basically have the same idea behind them," she said confidently. |
Ebony raised her hand. "Well both muggles and wizards use brooms. Even though wizards use brooms for more than just cleaning." |

Erin smiled at Ebony, happy that they earned points for Gryffindor. They desperately needed it. Erin started to raise her hand again, but she put it right back down, unsure if she should mention obvious things like soap and toothbrushes. |
Serena tentatively raised her hand. "What about buckets? And perhaps sponges when washing dishes?" |
Ebony waved to Erin. Then she rasied her hand again. "I know something else that kinda similar. Muggles have people to clean their house, the same as wizard except its house-elves. |
Erin had another idea, so she raised her hand. "Oh, and, like, muggles and wizards both use sinks and bathtubs and things like that, but I guess those are more for personal cleaning." |
Professor Light laughed a little. "Yes, yes, personal cleaning, is a little farther off the main point I was trying for, but I guess I did forget to specify that I was thinking of household cleaning." "Ok, so I'll stop there. We can conclude that Muggles use different types of objects that we also use. For instance..." Professor Light moved over to her closet, and pulled out two differnt sprays. The one was clearly wizard based, it was the kind that simply needed tapped at the top to spray out the perfect amount of freshner. The other was metalic looking, and Professor Light had to press the top to spray the can. A floral smelling mist shot out of the can. "As you can see, pretty similar, right? Now, I want to talk about one specific Muggle cleaning item in particular. As we should know from last lesson, Muggles use technology... and to run almost all technological devices, you need electricity. So who can tell me a Muggle item that runs on electricity?" |
Serena's hand shot up. "A television." She said. |

|
Ebony raised her hand. "Television, lamps, toasters, etc..." |
Quote:
|
Serena blushed. "Sorry. They use electricity to run a vacuum cleaner." |
Emma, being raised by muggles, said "A dust-buster! It's like this mini thing that sucks up dust, and it's handheld." |
Ebony giggled. "A washing machine." |
Emma, realizing the smartness of Ebony's answer added, "And a dryer, professor!" with a small giggle and her hand rasied. |
Ebony raised her hand again and said. "Dish-washer or a rug shampooer." |
Erin raised her hand once again. "And some muggles have dishwashers to was their dishes," she said. |
