DADA Class 2 Rae bustled into her classroom, whistling. It was dreary outside, but the classroom fireplace was crackling merrily and the room was warm and bright. She covered her mouth to hide the smile, but there was no helping it. She propped teh door open and settled behind her desk to prepare for class and wait for the students to arrive. |
Rave walked into the DADA classroom and sat down in the front desk. She saw Professor Rae hide a smile and asked politely, "Excuse me but whats so wonderful Professor? If you dont mind my asking Maam'" |
Julia classically does her James Bond rolls into the DADA classroom, and she takes a seat right at the front. She looks up at Rae and notices a bright smile on her face. Well... it's a good thing that she's in a great mood, she thinks as she takes out her materials for class. "Hello Professor Rae," Julia says after a moment. "How are you this... lovely day?" She decided to call it lovely since she seemed happy, and the smile was making Julia wonder what was so exciting. |
"I'm just pleased to be here with you today," Rae answered before attempting to hide her smile again. "And how are you all doing this lovely day?" |
marissa walked into the classroom and took a seat at the front of the class. |

Kay walked casually into the classroom and slipped into an empty desk a few seats behind Julia. "Good day, Professor Rae," she said brightly and reached into her bag, taking out a very old and fragile-looking book. She carefully sat this book on the desk before her whle digging through her bag, looking for some parchment, her quill and ink bottle. |
"What have you brought today, Kay? It seems a bit... too valuable to be your Defense text." She waved her hand and grinned again. "I just called your Defense text something like trash, didn't I?" |
Julia begins to giggle quietly as the Slytherin girl and Rae speak. She turns around and watches Kay walk in and sit down, and she gives her a friendly wave. Turning back around, she flips through her blue notebook and searches through her notes. She comes to an empty page in the DADA section, the page after the notes from last class, and Julia waits quietly for class to begin. |
Rave was about to open her note book when a sparkly something caught her eye. Her jaw dropped. "P-p-professor Rae? Is that an..an...an engagement ring?" she asked with eyes wide and fixed on her professor's left hand. |

Rae jerked her hand under her desk and blinked stupidly at her class. "Maybe," she hedged. "Why don't you... get out your wands and quills? Yes. Good plan." |

Julia raises her eyebrows at Rae, resisting the urge to laugh, and also resisting to urge to ask questions. She slips her wand out of her pocket and shoots a glance at Kay, then looks back up at Rae. |
marissa took out her wand and quills but she new professer was lieing!!! |
Sylvia walked into the classroom and took a seat in the middle of all the rows of desks. She did notice the professor's unusaul happiness, but didn't but in and ask about her mood. If professor Rae wanted us to know why she was so happy, she would've told everyone already Sylvia privately reasoned as she got out her wand and quill. |
Ellen enters the classroom and sits on her desk, quickly pulls her wand and takes iton the desk and after that, looks in her bag and pulls a quill and a piece of parchment. then looks at professor and says: " hi professor, what is the subject of our lesson today?" |
marissa smiled at the girl sitting beside her professer rae is getting married!" she said. |
Mandi walked into the classroom and took a seat over by the window. Then she noticed that the professor was smiling happily. She thought to herself that this is gonna be a good class today and she started smiling too as she took out her wand and her quill as instructed. |
There was a strange glint in Kay's eyes and her jaw tightened as she slid the book off the desk and slipped it into her bookbag. When her hands returned into sight, she had her wand in her hand and placed it on her desk. |
Rae stood and came around her desk, wand in hand. "Those of you who are not familiar with me are going to here this for the first time. Those who have had me before... I apologize if this sounds redundant. You know this is important to me, and so we must talk about it again. I want to start today's lesson discussing magical and non-magical defense. Why do you suppose it's so important to me?" She waved her wand hand and kept the other tucked inside her robes. |
Serilda came and quickly sat down next down in the back of the classroom. She took out her ink, quill, parchment, textbooks, and other books and set them on her desk. Putting her shoulder bag onto the floor beside her leg, Serilda took her cloak off and hung it onto her chair. She pushed her glasses higher up the bridge of her nose and took her wand out. Twirling it as she waited for the teacher to start the lesson, Serilda leaned against the back of her seat. Serilda raised her hand. "Perhaps you want to start the lesson as so because you're interested to see how knowledgable we are to protecting ourselves in various dangerous situations that require tactically analysis before commencing in fighting. You want us to be able to defend ourselves in both the magic world and the Muggle world," she said. |
Solitaire raised her hand. "So we can understand how serious this class is and what we might be up against in the future." |
Kay raised her hand. "It's important for witches and wizards to know how to defend themselves using magic and nonmagic methods, as well as identify which method of defense is more appropriate, given the situation." |
"Those are all good reasons to discuss both magical and non-magical defense, but I think Kay gave the most complete answer. Five points to Ravenclaw. Magical defense will always be preferred, but there are always times that you should know how to deal with things in a non-magical way. Can you give me an example of a time that non-magical means would be preferred?" |
Sylvia raised her hand, " When you are surrounded by muggles in a dangerous situation?" Sylvia guessed. |
Serilda raised her hand and said, "When you are in the presence of a Muggle and magic can or shall make you seem...awkward in the Muggle world. Also when you are underage in wizardry and can't preform magic without breaking the law." |
I think some kind of non - magical defense is fighting with sword, using a weapon like sword I mean, also karate, kong fu and also martial arts. I think these ways are some of non - magical defenses. |
Rose raised her hand. "Non-magical techniques would be preferred in either a situation involving muggles or around muggles, as to not involve the Ministry of Magic in covering up any incidents." |
Solitaire raised her hand."One preferred non magical way is when you're dealing with a muggle. You may get into a fight with a muggle for some reason, you should not use magic." |
Mandi raised her hand and replied "When Muggles are Present." |
Kay raised her hand. "An example could be when someone tries to hit you with their fists and you use your hands and arms to protect yourself, as well as using your fists to fight back." |
"Definitely... when encountering a Muggle, you're going to want to hide your abilities from Muggles... five for Slytherin. And Ellen has a good point... when I say non-magical, that really could mean any number of methods of defending oneself. Five for Gryffindor. The most foolish thing a grown Wizard can do is to underestimate someone because they don't have a wand in their hand." |
Serilda jotted down some notes in her book. |
Whende raised her hand. "Professor? How can one defend against magic with out using magic?" she asked. It was probably a stupid question as it would most likely be answered later in the lesson. |
Brittany began to scribble a few notes on some spare parchment but looked up after Whende asked her question- Brittany found quite interesting. She put down her quill and looked at the Professor. |
I think if you can do kong fu perfect, you can defense yourself against a wizard non-magical |
Evy took some notes. |
Serilda thought about the question the Gryffindor asked. She thought, You get out of the way of the spell. She looked at the Professor for an answer. |
marissa opened her note book and took notes. than looked at the professer for an answer. |
"There are different ways to defend yourself, but knowing some method of Muggle self-defense is not a bad place to start. Of course, there are more... shall we say... elementary ways to defend yourself? Does anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions regarding how you can defend yourself from attack?' |
Whende hesitated, but raised her hand. "Jump out of the way," she suggested. |
Serilda raised her hand and said, "Don't get into a situation where fighting in the first place, and/or walking away. If you are attacked you should try to keep your face, neck and other vital parts protected." |
marissa raised her hand "you could punch them!" laughed marissa. |
Brittany raised her hand, "Maybe- can you defend yourself with what muggles call karate or kung fu? It teaches muggle defensive systems such as when someone is provoking you." |
Ellen sits and listens to other students and thier comments, and also is waiting for professor to continue her lesson. |
Evy raised her hand. "Asking for help is always a good idea..." |
"You should also keep your head down and keep moving," said Serilda, hand still raised. |
"Defend yourself from an attack by doing rolls across the ground like I always do to get out of the way," she says to herself in a whisper, then giggles quietly. She jots down a few notes then glances around the classroom, a mischievous look on her face. |
"Excellent... you have lots of good suggestions. I especially like that many of you realize that the best way to defend yourself often isn't through magic or violence... but through thinking safely. Running and avoiding spells, especially while you are underaged, is a great idea. Perhaps Julia will teach us all her special roll after class," she grinned and pulled her hand out from inside her robes to push the hair behind her ear. "So... we are ready to think outside the box. You've told me ways to protect yourself without magic. What about non-defensive spells that you can use to protect yourself?" |
Rose raised her hand again. "You can use 'lumos' to reveal your attacked and to possibly scare him or her or it off." |
Kay raised her hand. "Couldn't you use the Confundus Charm so that the attacker becomes confused, thus allowing you to escape?" |
Evy raised her hand : "You can use spells that make your opponent unable to attack you, for example Expelliarmus or Impedimenta. You could also use Colloportus, to prevent your attacker from entering the room you're in." |
Serilda raised her hand and said, "You could Apparate, if you were old enough. Or you could use stupefy, levicorpous, colloportus if someone was running at you, shock spell, expelliarmus, sectumsempra if you absolutely had to, accio wand, wingardium leviosa, avis, oppungeo, rictusempra, petrificus totalus, and several other similar charms and spells to protect one's self from harm." |
"Excellent," Rae clapped her hands before shoving her non-wand hand back into her pocket. "Those are very good suggestions. I feel very confident that you all will manage to survive should you be attacked... well... it's a good start. I best not get carried away. Today we're going to learn a low-grade blasting charm. Why would I teach you a blasting charm?" |
Kay raised her hand. "So that we can blast an object that is impeding our path out of the way. The blasting charm can also be used the opposite way to block an attacker from reaching you." |
Jamie furiously scribbled his notes down. He looked up to listen to the question about the blasting charm. "Wouldn't it harm your opponet, and keep them from attacking you?" he asked, raising his hand. "So that they can't harm you and you can spare yourself a few seconds to get away or throw another charm or spell at them." |
"So the blasting charm can be used to create a path of escape, prevent the attacker from following you, and possibly be used to slow down your attacker. Very good." Rae nodded her head. "Does anyone know what the name of a blasting charm is?" |
Kay raised her hand. "It is the Reductor Curse and the incantation is Relashio." |
marissa rote down notes and then looked around to see if andone knew the answer to what the professer had just asked. |
"Can expelliarmus count as a blasting charm?" Jamie asked, pushing hair out of his eyes when he raised his hand. "Cos I know that it can cause a sort of blast. And I think I remember reading 'bout someone using Stupefy and wound up blasting a hole in his wall." He beamed at his memory, he didn't often remember such things. "I know of a blasting curse, too, but I don't know the incantation and that's a curse, not a charm." |
"You're half right, Kay... the spell I'm thinking of IS the Reductor Curse, but the incantation is wrong..." She turned to Jamie. "Expellliarmus's primary purpose is to disarm. The blasting effect is a side-effect... but a useful one." |
Kay blushed and raised her hand. "Sorry, Professor Rae. The correct incantation is Reducto." |
"Perfect... five points for Ravenclaw. Reductor is a good curse to use when you want to move something out of your way, as well as when you want to divert attention from yourself or slow someone down. It's only purpose is to destroy, so to use the spell on a person might get you in serious trouble with the Wizengamot unless you are in dire danger. Are there any questions on Reductor?" |
Jamie shook his head. No. No questions. The charm was fairly clean cut, though he couldn't help but be curious as to what it would do if used on a human. Raising his hand and poising his quill over his parchment, ready to jot down more notes. "What kind of damage would it do if you used it on a human?" he asked. "It wouldn't kill them... would it?" |
Davina took some notes and scanned the page. She had taken alot of notes today. |
Kay shook her head 'no' and listened to Jamie's question. How thick can that boy get? Whoever gets hit with this curse will be blown to bits! she thought. |
"I suppose it would depend on where you hit the person. It would effectively destroy whatever it hits, as if a localized Muggle bomb had hit that spot. If you hit something vital, it might be enough to kill them." |
Jamie's eyes widened and his eyebrows arched. Wow. He knew it blasted but he had no idea that it would destroy so badly. And so gruesomely. It was a wonder that the evil wizards didn't use that, instead of Avada Kedavra. He shivered a bit and decided not to write that down. It wasn't as if he'd forget it. His face turned white, a ghastly white and he quietly settled back against his seat. |
Serilda listened to the professor's words intensely as she jotted down more notes. Vital hits can kill, she thought. Dreadful thought. |
All color had drained from Kay's face and she shakily raised her hand. "How would you know if this particular spell was coming at you and is there anything you can do to protect yourself?" |
"Let's go ahead and get ready to practice this spell. I need everyone to get out your wand and assume your casting position that we learned last class. Come grab a pillow before you spread out and find your own space." She waited until they had found a spot in the room. "Watch me, please. The motion is a sharp jab and outward motion from the center of your body outward on your wand hand side. The incantation is Reducto (re-DUC-to). Once you destroy your pillow, you may repair it with the simple incantation Reparo. Practice as many times as you need to. I'll move among you as you practice." ooc: I have to go for now, but I'll be back to check on you. |

She took a pillow and went to the left side of the classroom. |
Julia stands up and grabs a pillow as instructed, then walks around and finds a place towards a back corner of the room. Watching the professor as she demonstrates, Julia takes a deep breath and concentrates. Reducto, she thinks, making sure she knows what exactly to say. She twirls her wand in her right hand for a moment, then sets her pillow on the floor. Suddenly glancing over at a Slytherin girl and Kay, she lowers her eyebrows at the Slytherin girl. "Watch it, loser," she mumbles nastily to her, then mumbles other things quietly to herself. Hey.. isn't that my competition for the Quidditch match? Julia thinks to herself, pondering. She is! She is toterly going down. No one messes with my friends. She grins over at Kay, then turns back to her pillow, wondering if it is filled with feathers. That would be fun if they were. |

g_g faced her pillow. "Okay...concentrate.." she breathed deeply, then, "Reducto!" the pillow suddenly exploded sending feathers to go everywhere, then slowly fall to the ground. |

Feeling a mischievous feeling build up inside of her, Julia points her wand at her pillow. Casually doing the wand motions, she says, "Reducto!" She watches with a grin as her pillow bursts and the white feathers shoot up into the air, then gently fall back to the ground. Giggling quietly, she picks up a few feathers and sticks them in her pockets. I could use these later, she thinks with a smirk on her face, then pointing her wand at the pile of remaining feathers. "Reparo!" The pillow was now whole again, yet it looked smaller because some of the feathers were gone. How did I suddenly become so good at this? In my third year I did horrible at this class... now suddenly I'm brilliant at it. What's up with that? |
Kay grabbed a pillow and moved to the right side of the room, far away from Rave. No one knows but him, she thought wistfully as she sat the pillow onto the ground. Two days ago, I would not have given the effects of this spell a second thought. She heard a loud voice and then soft blast from the opposite side of the room and saw feathers falling like snow. She shook her head at the mess caused by Rave and turned back to the pillow she was about to practice on. Wand in her right hand, an intense look appeared on Kay's face for a split second while she made a sharp jab and outward motion from the center of her body outward on her right side. Reducto! The pillow exploded on the stone floor and Kay couldn't help but smile because she managed to pull off the spell without speaking. To break the silence, she flicked her wand. "Reparo!" she cheerfully commanded and watched the pillow repair itself. |

Nik looked around lazily at the other students who were frantically exploding their own pillows. He caught sight of Harrison and smirked when she pulled off the spell non-verbally. Show off, he thought. He took out his wand and jabbed it in the direction of his pillow, just the way the professor had shown them and said clearly, "Reducto!" The pillow exploded and scattered feathers all around him. He felt an odd kind of satisfaction as he watched the feathers fall. Reparo he thought clearly, using what they had learnt in the last charms class, and watched as the feathers and pillow reconstructed itself to shape a perfect pillow again. |
Amber picked up her pillow. She took a deep breath and concentrated. Forcefully, she said: "REDUCTO!". Immediately her pillow blew up and feathers went flying everywhere. She scrambled about, muttering 'Sorry' to those who had her pillow's feathers on them. Amber muttered, "Reparo." At once her pillow was back to normal. |
Francesca looked around and held in a giggle at all the people who were making their pillows explode. She noticed Nik looking towards the same older Ravenclaw girl that Professor Craft took points from in her class. She had performed the spell nonverbally. She's interesting. Hmm. She took out her wand and looked at the pillow. The objective was to make it explode then put it back together again. She spoke very clearly the word "reducto" and watched in amusement as the feathers scattered everywhere. She cleared her thoughts and remembered something from Charms that the brilliant professor had taught them. She thought the spell reparo and got a good feeling when the pillow repared itself. She watched the rest of the class attempt to do what she did so easily. She was not advanced, but she learned things like this quickly. Since she was standing near Nik, when she was placing her wand back where she had it in the first place, she 'accidentally' poked Nik in the ribs with it. "Sorry." She said using her sickening sweet voice that she used when she had to apologize for breaking something at home. |
"I think I'll do it again!" she thought smiling excitedly. "Reparo!" she said ponting to the destructed pillow. the feathers amazingly rose to te air, as did the cloth and the pillow was reconstructed. "Okay...once more..." she said to herself. |
Brianna raised her wand and pointed it at her destroyed pillow, and said, "Reparo," the feathers started to go into what was left of the pillow, but the cloth didn't stich themselves together, "Close," she muttered to herself, "but it's kind've not good enough." |
Crystal decided to move towards the back of the room to practice. She placed her pillow on the floor in front of her and stepped back a few paces. " Okay....Now it's re-DUC-to, not RE-duc-to..." She knew that if she didn't say it properly, nothing would happen. She took a breath , and with a quick jab outward from her body, said decisively " Reducto!" and watched as the pillow ripped open, spilling its feathery contents. " OOh...I like this spell. " she said, grinning. Somehow, it was very entertaining to blow up a pillow. She then remembered she was supposed to fix the pillow. " Oh...yes.. Reparo!" She watched as the pillow seamlessly sewed itself back together. |
Phoebe walked up and took a pillow. She moved to a corner away from most people. After watching a few people blow up there pillows she thought hard about the spell in her head. Not daring to imagine if it was a real person she aimed her wand at the pillow and said "Reducto" Nothing happened she tried a few more times but still nothing hppened. "Reducto she said a gain. A tiny rip appeared in the pillow but that was all. Phoebe raised her hand waiting for the proffesors help. |
Edaj grabbed her pillow, took out her wand, and went over to Phoebe. she set it down, said, "REducto!' and did the movement the proffessor had said, and her pillow ripped open. "Phoebe, you need any help?" she asked. |
Hermy chose a pillow and placed it a few feet away. She picked up her wand in her left hand and practised the arm action. After getting as close as she was going to get to the movement at this stage, she repeated the spell in her mind, watching the pronounciation. Her eyes focusing, she said "Reducto" and watched as her pillow split. So it didn't blast apart she thought to herself, at least I managed something. She said "Reparo" to fix the pillow and tried once more. |
Luna smiled as she whipped out her wand... 'this should be fairly easy' she thaught, remembering the times during the holidays she had smashed her fathers possessions and trashed the house. After placing the cushion at a reasonalble distance from her she forcefully jabbed her wand in the direction of the pillow "reducto!". The pillow burst into a flurry of white feathers... surpisingly they didnt spread around the room but landed in a fairly neat pile after floating to the ground... "meh, I guess I must have been angry when I blew appart that piano" she said to herself |
Quote:
Rubbing his ribs he poked her in the side as retribution, "You're lucky I don't kick." He pulled his repaired pillow back towards him and tried the spell again, "Reducto" the pillow burst violently once more and he watched in amusement as the feathers landed in Franchesca's hair. Then he lazily waved his wand towards the mess and said the incantation for the repairing spell. Deliberately missing the feathers in Fran's hair he repaired the pillow while leaving the feathers on her. |
Brittny timidly raised her wand and casually flicked it, "Reducto!" she said, hoping for the best- but unfortunatly, the pillow remained still as whole and plump as when she got it. Brittany raised her wand again and said more powerfully, "Reducto!" and she raised her wand and flicked it once again. This time the pillow exploded into a thousand pieces and Brittany watched in amuesment as they floated through the room. She flicked her wand again and muttered, "Reparo!" |
Quote:
"I do kick though. Of course you knew that already." She winked at him as she tried the spell again. "Reducto" The pillow then exploded and feathers flied everywhere. She ran her hair through her fingers (not that she had much to run through them) and ended up holding a giant wad of feathers. She looked over at Nik and back at the feathers in her hand. She repaired her own pillow again, leaving the feathers from Nik's in her hand. She had an idea as to what she could do with those. She took one of the longer feathers and started tickling Nik in the neck with it. She had nothing else to do at the moment so this was amusement and she always craved it. |
lizzy pointed her wand at her pillow and shouted "reducto" very clearly. the pillow burst and white feathers shot into the air. lizzy smiled and gave her wand a casual flick whilst saying "reparo". she watched as the pillow pulled its self together quickly. lizzy repeated the incantation until her pillow responded to a small whisper and she no longer needed to shout the incantation. |
srimathi pointed her wand at the pillow and with a sharp jab just as the professor has shown yelled reducto!!!!!and the pillow suddenly burst sending feathers in the air.wow said srimathi |
fuj got her pillow, stood at the back of the class, and remembered all the times her brother had annoyed her. when she felt really annoyed, she jabbed her wand at the pillow and said reducto. the pillow exploded, and fuj could not wait intil she could show her brother this. she tried doing reparo nonverbally, and to her surprise, it worked. |
Rae wandered among the students. "Okay... does anyone have any questions or need any pointers?" |
Sylvia carefully listened to Professor Rae. Then she attempted the spell. "Reducto," Sylvia said in a regular tone. The pillow than blew up and feathers landed in neat clumps near her desk. A mischeivious smile crept upon Sylvia's face. She had an idea. What if I made the pillow burst with so much pressure that it exploded out of the classroom? Sylvia then tried the spell again after she repaired the pillow. "Reducto!" Sylvia stated with much more feeling. The pillow's feathers exploded across the room, but there were no fluffy white feathers in the hall. Sylvia repaired the pillow and prepared to try again. |
Elijah recalled the use of the Reductor spell Rae was talking about, and felt confident with carrying this one out. He strutted up to get a pillow of his own and then proceeded to an area of the classroom that would allow room for feathers to be blown about. With his pillow infront of him, and want in hand, Elijah took his stance as always practiced in class, jabbed his wand in the direction of his pillow, "Reducto!" and with a slight pop, feathers were blown in every direction. He smiled to himsel and gave a satisfied nod. With another swish and flick of his wrist, "Reparo!" the air made a soft sucking sound as the pillow brought itself back together to it's original state. Elijah smiled once more and twirlled his wand around in his hand surveying the rest of the classroom. His eyes fell on Kay as he watched her non-verbally use the spell, and made a slight face. At this age, he still hadn't mastered non-verbal spells and he really needed to. There appeared to also be some commotion going on between a Slytherin student, Kay and Julia, now that Elijah paid closser attention. He made no move to attempt at interfering and went back to his own spell casting. |
srimathi burst the pillow again and again she was having such fun |
