"Professor, I just had a quick question for my own intrest," he started,
"I know runes are used for alchemy, in the transmutation circles, but how are those runes...err...activated? Because you dont need to say anything to transmute a substance,"

"I'm not an expert in the field of alchemy, but what I understand is that the formation of the runes within the alchemic circle as well as the circle itself plays an important part in its activation. Once the alchemist focuses his or her magical force into the circle, the runes are activated without an incantation, but this method usually takes a lot of concentration and practice. That said, an improperly placed rune will most probably have undesirable effects on the circle." Opteryx glanced at the Slytherin girl who had just rushed into the class and shook his head. "Class is already over today, but I won't take points off this time. Hopefully now you know how to get to the classroom and won't get lost on the way here for next class," he said kindly. The girl appeared to be a first year, and most likely had gotten lost in the hallways of Hogwarts.
