Over the time maybe their meanings got slightly tainted. Maybe the meanings of some runes is gotten slightly general. Which could make using multiple runes diffacult."

Jordana raised her hand and said, "Is it because Runes are phonetic, in other words they represent the way something SOUNDS, not the way it is SPELLED in modern English."

Alyssa raised her hand"Because one sentence can be used in one symbol" alyssa said nervously.
"Well, not exactly..." Quote:
Erin raised her hand again, this time completely unsure of her answer. "Maybe because just one spell wouldn't be sufficent to activate the whole sentence?" she guessed.
"You're getting close, though in theory one kind of spell or incantation is probably sufficient to activate a chain of runes. Three points to you." Quote: "Because, since there is not written documentation on how to spell runes, there is no set pronounciation, so it could be harder to activate it?" "Actually, the pronounciation of the runes is well-documented, and there *is* a set pronounciation for them. Good try, though." Quote: lua raised her hands and answered "Because the more letters you have the more the meaning changes or more difficult to interpurt by others" "Five points to Gryffindor. Yes, that is definately one of the problems. Since each rune has its own meaning...or multiple meanings, in a few cases, the more runes you have, the more complicated the resulting spell becomes because the runes effects will mix with each other. There's even a rune that will reverse the meaning of a rune it's placed next to."
"You've all come up with some very good reasons, so three points again to everyone else who answered. Does anyone have any questions before I assign the homework?"

Meghan scribbled down everything on the parchment that was sitting on her desk. She shook her head when asked if there were any questions.

As Jordana was writing down her notes, she heard the Professor say that they were going to be given homework. "Great, more homework. At least I'm done with all the other assignments." Jordana thought. She had already finished her other assignments from her other classes so, she wouldn't be buried under mountains of school work.

Graduated | Seeing that there were no questions, Opteryx continued.
"Your homework is as follows:
Turn each of the words in the following list into runic alphabet using the chart in your textbook, and then find out the meanings of each of the runes in that word. You can find the meaning of the rune, in this case, by referring to the same chart.
-Cat
-Charm
-Wand
-Your name (not the words, but your first name.)
Homework is due on April 29th. Class dismissed, and have fun!"

Meghan copied down the homework. When she had finished she shut her book and put all her scattered papers in order. She than put all of those things into her back and slung it over her shoulder. She stood up and started to walk out of the classroom. "Great lesson Professor," she said with a smile. "It was great review for everything I forgot over the summer." With that she left the classroom.

Ayumi copied the homework into her notebook. "Lovely, more homework," she sighed Hogwarts classes were just as hard as she thought they would be.

sorry professor, I have a question. I have read in a book that horcruxes , I mean making horcruxes is like making ancient runes.
when some people in ancient civilisations, made an ancient rune, sometimes wrote a charm or spell on it to charm something or someone. I like to know is it true that Horcruxes are like ancient runes?
forgive me to ask this question here, Im not a dark wizard, and dont like to learn dark arts, just I have read this in a book and like to know is it true or not.
thanks

Hogwarts RPG Name: Fancy Taylor | Devoted to Tom Padfoot's Psychiatrist Fancy scribbled down the homework quickly, hoping that her knowledge learned in her previous lessons of Ancient Runes would help her with this assignment. Once the shining green ink had dried on her parchment, she rolled it up and hastily stuffed the rest of her belongings in her bag. She jogged out of the classroom, hoping that she wouldn't be late for her next class. |

Opteryx blinked a few times in the wake of this question, then, surprisingly, seemed to think on it.
"Well, first of all, I think creating a Horcrux certianly involves a lot more than the work involved in activating a string of runes. The processes involved are quite different to begin with. With runes, the runes must be engraved on a surface--usually stone, wood or metal--and upon spelling or activating, the magic combination of the runes will begin to work. Horcruxes don't involve such engravings, I would think--the subject of Horcruxes is not widely studied due to its subject matter and because it's a seriously Dark Art. Does that answer your question somewhat?"
Opteryx looked up and nodded to the student who was waiting behind, indicating that he would talk to her next after he was done with this student.
