The DADA classroom was opened. The desks were pushed to the front of the room so that there was plenty of open space in the back of the room. Rae entered the room and eyed the open windows that were letting in plenty of air and sunlight. It was such a mild day, perfect for a walk by the lake after class. Alone for sure.

Davina frowned slightly"Professor some spells are non-verbal.You dont need to speak to cast them"

Sabrina raised her hand "Some can cast spells just by thinking them, therefore being silent won't prevent them from using the spell."

Sarah thought and raised her hand "Because they can still do damage even when silent because they can still say the spell even though you cant here the spell they cast"

Ozzy raised his hand again. "Because your opponent might be able to cast non verbal spells." He offered and continued on with his notes.

"Davina got it first, and she is absolutely right. Five points for Hufflepuff. Silencing someone who knows how to cast nonverbal spells will not stop them, although it will usually weaken the effect of the spell. Still... it's an option that is open to us, and we should take advantage of it."

Eunice continued her taking of notes. Once again, she'd been too slow to respond to the question. Non-verbal spells, she wrote on her parchment. She'd read about them in a book somewhere...

"Let me demonstrate this spell for you before we learn a second new spell for today." She gestured for a student in the front row to join her. "Now, the incantation is si-LEN-see-o, and your wand should make a gentle loop-de-loop from your non-wand side to your wand side. If it helps, imagine you're tying the know. You can try the motion out while I cast it." She pointed her wand at the student. "Silencio," she cast before smiling. "Now, try to speak."

Kalaya smiled as she watched, she practiced her motion as she watched. Soon, she was doing it without even thinking about it. When she finally stopped she set her wand down and waited for what was next.

"Finite Incantatem," Rae grinned and the girl was able to speak again. "Thank you, Pauline. Excellent." She turned and looked at the class again. "There is one more spell I want us to learn today, and it is similar in intent to the Silencing Charm. Consider it this way... if you can prevent someone from casting a spell, you keep them from causing you harm. So... aside from stunning or silencing, what is another way to prevent them from casting?"
