Professor Fox opened the Arithmancy classroom and stepped in. He conjured a large box to appear on the instructor's desk at the front of the room. He then removed a small, old wooden box and set it near the front of the desk. Fox wrote silently on the board at the front:
Applied Arithmancy: Spell numerization
We will be continuing using concepts covered in last year's courses. This term we will be applying the theory we learned last term directly to curse breaking.
New Students:
If you are unfamiliar with the matereial covered last term, simply try to keep up. This material will be new for everyone, so try your best to learn as we go and interject your ideas and opinions when asked. I will not deduct points for incorrect answers, and questions are always welcome. However, we stay on topic in my classroom, and I don't tolerate rule breakers or class clowns.
Having written that, he turned his attention to the now empty seats and waited for everyone to begin arriving. | |

Professor Fox looked up and nodded. "The combination can indeed have an effect Ms. Abagnale. However, as you'll note there are multiple characteristics for each number, so this exercise is really only intended to get you thinking. There really aren't any 'right' answers as it were." He then gave her an encouraging look and went back to his preparations.

Alex backed away even more when she heard Professor Fox mentioning partners but decided she would be forced to sooner or later. With a small sigh, she glanced around the classroom and felt like mentally kicking herself at the thought of having to work with someone she didn't know.
The girl's attention was now on a scared Gryffindor student. She quickly got up and walked over to Chantel. "Don't worry, I don't bite," she told her as she sat down.
"You find the combination by mixing the characteristics of the composite number together. Well, that's how I did it, no Professor?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Evy smiled as the teacher answered her question. She was pretty relieved to hear that there were no right or wrong answers.
"Yeah you might be right Alyssa..." This was definately getting confusing. "As for 28, I think it can have two different meanings depending on which characteristics you chose from each number. I think it can mean an impossibility to make a choice, an indecision (understanding, movement) or a rational thinking (understanding, reasoning)."
