Professor Fox opened the Arithmancy classroom and stepped in. He conjured a large box to appear on the instructor's desk at the front of the room. He then removed a small, old wooden box and set it near the front of the desk. Fox wrote silently on the board at the front:
Applied Arithmancy: Spell numerization
We will be continuing using concepts covered in last year's courses. This term we will be applying the theory we learned last term directly to curse breaking.
New Students:
If you are unfamiliar with the matereial covered last term, simply try to keep up. This material will be new for everyone, so try your best to learn as we go and interject your ideas and opinions when asked. I will not deduct points for incorrect answers, and questions are always welcome. However, we stay on topic in my classroom, and I don't tolerate rule breakers or class clowns.
Having written that, he turned his attention to the now empty seats and waited for everyone to begin arriving. | |

Jessica awved her hand up high.
"The number 2 stands for humans as well as opposites, 5 for safety and 7 for magic and spirituality. The longevity of 7, combined with the opposition of 2 results and the security of 5 results in the prolonged safety of a spell used to defend oneself?" Jessica wasn't good at Arithmancy. But her good results in her Final had given her a longing to learn more about Magical numbers and their properties. She hoped she hadn't messed up.

Professor Fox nodded again, clearly glad the students were understanding the subject matter. "Excellent everyone. Yes, I made and chose this specific spell to show that by understanding the curse on an object sometimes, one can bypass the spell without even resorting to more advanced magic. Now, mind you, you will likely never find a curse as simple or straight foreward as this one, but it is good for educating. Now.. The last part, the cline, is difficult. If you look in your books at page 93, you will see that there are 7 clines, or types, of curses. A spell ending in 9 is a type of spell that is powerful and instantaneous. Spells like impedimentia or blasting charms typically end in 9. The 4 before the 9 indicates that this is a spell that is somewhat more complex than its brother impedimentia, do to the specificity of the spell targeting humans." He watched the students then indicated the wooden lockets. "Now each of these has the same curse on it. They are each of them on small plates, so you'll be able to carry them to your desk without being struck by the curse. I would like everyone to practice arithmos revelio at their desks. Once you get it down, the number will appear clear and in full. If you have problems, you may see incorrect numbers, incomplete numbers, or just very fuzzy numbers. It typically takes some practice." He held up his hands indicating for them to start. "So, everyone, please try the spell out, I'm confident you'll get it by the end of class."

Aurore looked at her locket, determined to get it right. Arithmos Revelio she said clearly. Numbers appeared, but they were fuzzy and some of them were wrong. She frowned and looked again at her notes to make sure she was saying it right.

"arithmos revelio" pauline said and saw some fuzzy numbers. she tried it again "arithmos revelio" concentraing real hard on the box. it was a little clearer. one more time she thought and said it again "arithmos revelio" the numbers appeared pauline raised her hand
"proffesor i think i got it" pauline said

Sabrina carried the locket back to her desk. She lay it down and grabbed her wand out of her bag. She closed her eyes, repeating the spell in her head a few times. Feeling ready, she opened her eyes, took a deep breath, and clearly said "Arithmos revelio".
A group of numbers popped up but she couldn't make out anything. She sighed and prepared to try again. Well, he said it takes practice. she thought

Julie got her wand out, flickered it and said "arithmos revelio" .. nothing happened so she closed her eyes for a few seconds hoping to relax and said it again "arithmos revelio" with a wand flick and then she saw the numbers but they weren't clear she saw something like this [COLOR=Olive[I]]2808052749[/I][/COLOR]
