Professor Fox opened the Arithmancy classroom and stepped in. He conjured a large box to appear on the instructor's desk at the front of the room. He then removed a small, old wooden box and set it near the front of the desk. Fox wrote silently on the board at the front:
Applied Arithmancy: Spell numerization
We will be continuing using concepts covered in last year's courses. This term we will be applying the theory we learned last term directly to curse breaking.
New Students:
If you are unfamiliar with the matereial covered last term, simply try to keep up. This material will be new for everyone, so try your best to learn as we go and interject your ideas and opinions when asked. I will not deduct points for incorrect answers, and questions are always welcome. However, we stay on topic in my classroom, and I don't tolerate rule breakers or class clowns.
Having written that, he turned his attention to the now empty seats and waited for everyone to begin arriving. | |

Meghan gave the box a suspicious look. Cursed objects she didn't like the sound of that one. She listened to what the professor was saying as she started to scribble down notes to what he was saying. She wondered if anyone else was as confused as her.

He pulled the chest to the middle of the desk and did some more complicated looking things, to it then examined the class. "Now then, to show that it is back to working properly..." He then tried to open it, only to be hit by the same spell. After a few long moments professor Fox returned to normal. He then smiled encouragingly and pulled out his wand. "Everyone, pay close attention. Also, please turn to page 92 in your books for a detailed explanation of the following spell." He brought his wand down, then back up and with a final flick said clearly "Arithmos Revelio!" Then, oddly a large yellowish waving number appeared to float above the box, reading clearly

He looked to the class and indicated the number. "Class, this is the numerical representation of the spell impedimentia specificalis hominum. Everything we need to know about the spell and how it works is contained, surprisingly, in this number. Now then, who notices any particularly interesting groupings?"

Jara instently copied down every word the proffessor had said. She payed close attention to what the Proffessor had just done, but she couldn't find anything in particular about the groupings

"Most of the numbers from that spell are the same ones you asked us to figure out the meaning to earlier," she replied, still staring at the numbers and fascinated by everything that just happened.
"Professor Fox, how would we be able to dechipher these when there are so many numbers involved. I mean, how do we know what parts to break them off into, what groupings, when actually trying to find out the meaning?"
