Professor Fox opened the Arithmancy classroom and stepped in. He conjured a large box to appear on the instructor's desk at the front of the room. He then removed a small, old wooden box and set it near the front of the desk. Fox wrote silently on the board at the front:
Applied Arithmancy: Spell numerization
We will be continuing using concepts covered in last year's courses. This term we will be applying the theory we learned last term directly to curse breaking.
New Students:
If you are unfamiliar with the matereial covered last term, simply try to keep up. This material will be new for everyone, so try your best to learn as we go and interject your ideas and opinions when asked. I will not deduct points for incorrect answers, and questions are always welcome. However, we stay on topic in my classroom, and I don't tolerate rule breakers or class clowns.
Having written that, he turned his attention to the now empty seats and waited for everyone to begin arriving. | |

Professor Fox raised his hands to calm the students down. "Yes yes yes. Ms. Kay is perfectly fine. The effect is temporary, she'll recover in a few seconds. Everyone calm down. I would never allow a student to actually be harmed in my class." He walked over to the box and seemed to fiddle with his wand on it for a moment. He then opened it up and a chocolate frog jumped out which he quickly caught. He then handed the frog (which was now perfectly still) as well as the wizard card to Alex. "There you are Ms. Kay, I apologize. Thank you though." He smiled to her and indicated she could sit down.

well it was official meghan was now officially afraid of opening boxes. She had no idea what this had to do with the lesson. but she scribbled some notes down onto her piece of parchment and turned her attention back to the professor.

Taken by surprise, Alex never had enough time to react to the beam that had hit her. Frozen on the spot, she couldn't do anything. Once the girl had regained her senses, she gave the Professor a small smile and took the card and the chocolate frog.
"My pleasure, thank you," she nodded politely before taking a seat again. "What hit me, Professor?" she asked quietly, after raising her hand. "I thought it couldn't have been that easy."

"Now, that was an example of a 'cursed object'. This is a very important lesson for anyone planning on becoming a curse breaker at Gringotts. Many curses are designed to react to certain spells. The questions then become 1) How do I identify what curse an object has? 2) How do I break or bypass the curse an object has?

Now, this is a rather simple, straight-forward spell, and you will never find it in real cursed tombs. But I don't want anyone gaining extra heads or that nonsense in my class.
