Kalaya looked up from her notes and racked her brain..."The muggles call them mermaids," she said doubtfully. She knew they weren't studying muggles, but it was true, she hoped. Otherwise they had covered all the names that she knew. Quickly she looked at her notes again.

| Double Agent Stamps! "No, professor, I think we've covered all the names." Terry watch Professor McAiken stick his head into the classroom with Nobel in tow. It is unusual for him to be walking around the school with his owl. Nobel is usually in the owlry at this time of day. Terry decides she might better go and check on Nobel after class. |

Nadia raised her hand, "In Japanese culture, there's name for them, Ninyo or Ningyo.
"There was also the Lamias, but it wasn't like they were mermaids especially. Lamias are some times considered water spirits, sometimes witches and other times female vampires.
"Some cultures called the merman - that's to say a male merpeople, a Makara.
"One of the races of the merpeople, I can't tell you which exactly, was called Iara. In India, for instance, there are the Apsara, beautiful water nymphs. "But the originals were 'Sirens' and 'Tritons' of the Greeks, and the fish gods, who were half human and half fish, from the Babylonians."

They live all around the world, and have different cultures and appearences, just like humans. Much like the centaur, we hardly know anything about their ways and society structure.
There is one thing in particular that all merpeople love, what is it? |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Raymond Luxury-Yacht (but it's pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove) | Erica raised her head just in time to notice McAiken slip out and momentarily wondered why he came before turning her attention back to the lesson at hand. Hearing the question, she raised her hand.
"I believe that's music. All merpeople share a common bond with their love of music."
She jokingly hummed a little tune after that and then took to her notes again. |

Ozzy sat in silence, the only sound to be heard from him was the scratch of his quill upon parchment, while he took note after note on all the facinating mythical creatures.
His quill paused as he thought of what to write next. when it came to him he scribled it out hastily then looked up at the Professor, waiting to hear what the next creature she would ask a question on.

Kristal sat paying close attention to the lesson. She was scribbling down notes furociously fast and then looked up, her hand shooting into the air. "Professor, all merpeople love music. They even sing some themselves."

Kalaya finished catching up on her notes. She knew the answer to the question, but unfourtunatly, it had already been answered. Her hair had been falling in her face, annoying her, so she found a hairband in her bag and put her long brown hair in a messy ponytail. Resting her chin in her hand she waited for the question.

The mermish language is notoriously difficult to learn, many of the sounds and pitches being hard for humans achieve.
We also know that the appearance of merpeople changes with the climate, just liek humans do. Does anyone know anything about that? |

Kate continued to take notes. It seemed everyone was so well versed in these subjects. Kate thought it was all so interesting. She thought about the sphinx, it would be kind of neat to solve riddles. Kate shrugged to herself and continued to take notes on merpeople. She wondered what else she might learn today.

Nadia raised her hand again, pretty enthusiatically, " The sirens of Greece are the oldest recorded merpeople, who match the descriptions of Muggle legend, while the selkies of Scotland have greyish skin and long, wild, dark green hair. Their eyes are yellow, as are their broken teeth, and they wear thick ropes of pebbles around their necks. Their powerful, silver fish tails allow them to swim expertly, while the upper parts of their bodies resemble those of humans. Merpeople are very tall. Oh and I forgot Merpeople are also known as merrows at Ireland, too!"

Kalaya listened closely but didn't have a clue to what the answer was. She shrugged, she thought she was doing decent for a first year. She continued taking notes, and after she finished she absentmindidly took a piece of her hair out of her ponytail and twisted it around her finger while she waited for another question.

Noel took more notes and went on listening, she hadn't answered much in any of her classes lately, although sometimes she did know the answer.

Jake listened as he scribbled down notes. He didn't know much of mythical creatures. He wasn't to sharp in CoMC. It had to of been one of his worst subjects.. But he contined to listen to what everyone had to say making sure he wrote down word for word what they said.

Pacilla listened intently to all that was being said about dragons. Whenever the professor asked a question that she didn't know the answer to, Pacilla felt embarrassed and told herself over and over, I knew I should have read that book about dragons that I saw in the library, arrgh!, but she tried focusing on what everyone was saying and taking notes as usual so she would at least not fail her homework.

After quickly raising her hand, Kalaya said, "The Sphinx has a XXXX rating. It is usually only dangerous when what it is gaurding is threatened."
