ali hesitates, then raises his hand. opaleye eggs are plae grey and may be mistaken for fossils by unwary muggles. the dragon produces a vivid scarlet flame. the dragon is medium sized (between 2 and 3 tonnes). the dragon will rarely kill unless hungry. its favourite food is sheep but it is known to attack larger prey. |
the antipodean opaleye is so beautiful because of it's iridescent scales and its vivid red flame. also it's intriguing becuase of it's eyes that have no pupil |
Dragons were one of Drusilla´s favourite subjects, so she listened carefully, even though she knew most of it. She only seemed to be so slow today. |

The Common Welsh Green blends in with thelush habitat of its homeland, but still a reservation has been set up to try to minimise clashing with muggles, and being a pest to witches and wizards. Apart from 1 known incident, they are known to be 'tame' for a dragon, not actively hunting humans and are not particularly aggressive. Anyone know anything else about them? |
Nadia raised her hand, "Well, it's obviously native to Wales, nests in the highest mountains, are green in appearance, its flame is a narrow jest, feeds especially of sheeps and its eggs are earthy brown speckled with green." |
The Welsh Dragon also has an easily recognizable surprisingly melodious roar. |
the welsh green blends well with the lush grass of its homeland, though it nests in the higher mountains, where a reservation had been established for its preservation.this breed is probably the least troublesome of the dragons, prefering, like the opaleye,to prey on sheep, and actively avoiding humans unless provoked. the welsh green has a easily recognisable melodious roar and its fire is issued in thin jets, the welsh green's eggs are an earthy brown, flecked with green |
3 points to Nadia and 2 to Mrs Weasley. Which breed of dragon is the largest, and what can you tell me about them? |
ali raised his hand, hoping to get the professors attention. 'the ukranian iron belly is the biggest breed of dragons, known to gain a weight of 6 tonnes. rotund and slower in flight than the vipertooth, the iron belly is nevertheless extreemly dangerous, capable of crushing dwellings on which it lands. the scales are metallic grey, the eyes are deepred and the talons are particularly long and vicous. iron bellys have been subject to constant obsevation by the unkranian wizarding authoritys ever sinse the ironbelly carried off a (mercifully empty) sailing boat from the black sea in 1799' |
The Ukranian Ironbelly is the largest breed of dragon. It has been know to achieve a weight of six tons. Rotund and slower in flight than the Vipertooth or the Longhorn, the Ironbelly is nevertheless extremely dangerous, capable of crushing dwelling on which it lands. THe scales are metalic gray, the eyes deep red, and the talon particularly long and vicious. Ironbellys have been subject to constant observation by the Ukranian wizarding world ever since an ironbelly carried off a sailing boat from the Black Sea in 1799. |
Great, 3 points to Ali. What about the Romanian Longhorn? |
Ozzy placed his quill down and raised his hand. "The Romanian Longhorn has dark green scales and long, glittering golden hornes with which it gores its prey before roasting it. When powdered, these horns are highly valued as potion ingredients. The native territory of the Longhorn has now become the world's most important dragon reservation, where wizards of all nationalities study a variety of dragons at close range. The Longhorn has been the subject of an intensive breeding programme because its numbers have fallen so low in recent years, largely because of the trade in its horns, which are now defined as a class B Tradeable Material." He said as if reciting it straight from Fantastic Beasts & where to find them, which it probably was. He picked up his quill and once more began to take notes. |
Fantastic, 3 points! Nearly done. There is another dragon native to Britain, what is it? |
Nadia recounted and raised her hand, "The Hebridean Black?" |
Jessica wrote notes on the many dragons. When the professor asked about Romanian longhorns, she raised her hand, but lowered when another student got there first. She reraised it when asked about another dragon. "If i am right in saying, we have not covered the Swedish Short-Snout. It is native to Sweden it lives in thewild, uninhabited mountain areas It is a silvery-blue color, and its flame is a brilliant blue in color Since the Short-Snout prefers uninhabited mountain areas, this tells us that it inhabits the mountains of northern Sweden. although this region takes up perhaps 2/3 of the country, most of the Muggle population lives in the remaining third." Jessica said smiling, as she skimmed through her notes. |
Hebridean Black is England other dragon. It is more aggressive than it's Welsh cousin. Its needs up to 100 squard miles per dragon. It measure up to 30 ft in length and is rough scaled. It has brilliant purple eyes and line of shallow but razor-sharp ridges along it back. It has a tail tipped with an arrow-like spike and it batlike wings. |
Patrick looked up and added, "The wizard clan MacFusty who dwell in the Hebrides, have traditionally taken the responsibility for the management of this dragon." |
Ozzy placed his quill down again and raised his hand once more. "The Hebridean Black." He said. "I hope thats the right one." He thought to himself and continued. "Is more agressive than its Welsh counterpart. It requires a territory of as much as a hundered square miles per dragon. Up to thirty feet in length, the Hebridean Black is rough-scaled, with brilliant purple eyes and a line of shallow but razor-sharp ridges along its back. Its tail it tipped by an arrow-shaped spike also it has batlike wings. The hebridean Black feeds mostly on deer, though it has been known to carry off large dogs and even cattle. The wizard clan MacFusty, who have dwelled in the Hebrides for centuries, have traditionaly taken responsibility for the management of their native dragons." He recited as if once more straight from Fantastic beasts & where to find them and continued to take notes. |
Wow, look at you all go! 6 points to patrick, and 1 to Ozzy for adding the bit about their preferred food. The Swedish dragon was next, but since someone has already offered info on it, we'll go straight to the last one, the Norwegian Ridgeback. There is a story that a Ridgeback once carried off a fairly large animal, does anyone know what that was? |
It is reportly to have carried off a whale calf. |
Strange but true, 2 points. So tell me something else true about the Ridgeback. |
Patrick saw that no other student had offer any other information so he continued to explain the Ridgeback. The Ridgeback resembles the Horntail in most respects, though instead of tail spikes it sports a prominent jet-black ridges along its back. It is exceptionally aggressive to its own kind, so it is one of the rarer breeds today. It's eggs are black and the young develop fire-breathing abilities earlier than other breeds. |
Kalaya listened carefully as she took notes. She was blanking out on this one. |
The Norwegian Ridgeback resembles the horntail in most respects, except instead of tailspikes it sports particularly prominent jet-black ridges along it's back. Exceptionally aggressive towards its own kind it is now one of the rarer dragon breeds. Unusually for dragons it feeds on water dwelling beings. It has also been known to attack most kinds of large land mamals and other dragons. |
Nadia raised her hand again, "The Norwegian Ridgeback habits at mountains, in appearance has black scales, bronze horns, black ridges on its back, its fangs are venomous, it feeds of any large mammals, including water animals and its eggs are black." |
