Peony entered the room, taking a seat quickly, near a window. She eyed the professor, then ducked her head, and began spreading out her mess. It took a considerably shorter time than before, practice did make perfect. Quills, inks and parchment were scattered onto her table, and Peony spent quite a bit of time hunting about for her favorite white pen before realising it was in her pocket.

Laura looked up, startled that someone had spoken to her and whispered back "Yeah I am, I thought I'd seen you before as well."

Jenna takes a seat towards the front of the room and rummages through her bag for her quill and ink. She looks up occasionally, hoping to see one of her friends from last year.

Who can define transfiguration?" OOC: Sorry, I am late starting, I streched out for a power nap and slept an hour. Get I needed it. I didn't sleep last night until then.

Cherry put up her hand at this.
"Briefly, Transfiguration is the art of changing something into something else, whether it is an immobile or living creature or person."

Peony raised a hand, her fingers stained by ink. She'd been doodling again. "Transfiguration is changing something into another thing with magic," she called out, not at all sure her answer was correct, or comprehensive enough.

"Transfiguration is the study of turning one object into another", said Kelli raising her hand.

Jenna raised her hand. "Transfiguration is the type of magic where one thing turns into another." SHe blushed a little. It was not her best answer.

Laura just sat there. A little uncomfortable that she didn't even know the answer to a basic question. What should she do? Just try and get through the lesson? She wasn't too sure..

Happy to see that she had earned Ravenclaw the first 5 points for the term, points which she hoped would keep on mounting as all the previous years, she raised her hand again.
"Could human tranfiguration be one of them Sir?" She wasn't sure of this answer so she racked her brains to try to remember what they had mentioned the previous year.

Jenna though for a moment, then slightly hesitantly raised her hand. "Is there exterior tranfiguration and interior? Like, the process of changing only the outside, say, you change a rock to have fur? And then changing the interior--what the rock is made out of, is a little different, isn't it?"

Hating the idea of repeating her previous answer, but deciding to try again anyway, Cherry raised her hand yet again.
"Could it be human transfiguration Professor?" she asked.
She tried to think of something else, but from what she had read in books, human transfiguration seemed to be the most complex of all switching spells, unless...
She raised her hand again, this time to ask a question.

Jenna raised her hand again, this time with a little more confidence. "A Switching Spell is a spell in which the caster changes the intended target into another. The most complex Switching Spell is that where you try to change a living, breathing thing, like a human or an animal. To transform yourself, like an animagus can, is probably the most complex."

Jenna raised her hand again. "Is...is it the animagus spell? That's not really a spell, more like a charm...sort of." She put her hand down, feeling her answer was rather weak.

Peony sighed. Transfiguration had never been her strong point -especially when it came to theory, though she wasn't so hot on practice either. The only reason she tried to pay attention in class was because of her increasingly futile hope of turning Grimwald, her homicidal cat, the feline version of Hannibal Lecter, into something that stood still and didn't bite.
She really regretted picking that orange kitten up. I like it.
Peony frowned, her pen tracing an inky picture out on the parchment while she pretended to listen and write down notes. You would. Both of you share common traits. I haven't orange fur, in case you haven't noticed. As if I could notice anything about you. You're in my head. Peony huffed slightly, and scratched her picture out, pretending sadistically that it was either The Voice, or her cat. Both you and Grimwald would gladly see me dead.
'I'm slowly going insane...' wrote Peony lacksadically on her paper. You already are.
Peony really thought that she had to agree on that point.

Alex thought for a second and then slowly raised her hand. She was a bit unsure of the answer, but it was still wortha try. "Err ... from what I can remember, we learned Transmogrify & Variegratus, did we not? Although ... I am not quite sure which one is the most complex," she siad slowly, raising her eyebrow.
She thought again for a second and then realized something. Perhaps the Professor was not necessarily talking about spells they had learned in the past. But still, this was her best guess, so she decided to go along with it. She blinked and stared at the Professor, awaiting for a reaction. She was kind afraid of being wrong, but still, it was worth something to try. She just did not want to get embarassed in front of the class. But she had no time to think about that now.
It suddenly hit her. "Animagi magic?" she asked, rather quietly. After all, that was one of the hardest and most complex spells in the Wizarding World, all together. She had always been fascinated by it.
Most complex Vanishing spell? Hmm, that was a bit hard. Perhaps there really was none ... I mean, the Vanishing Spell was just to ... vanish things. But it depended on how small or large they were. "Err, is there really such a thing, Professor? I mean ... isn't there really only one Vanishing Spell, but it depends on the personal level of the students? The beginner students to vanish little things and quills and for the more advanced students to vanish animals, perhaps?"
Or maybe .... just maybe ... "Apparating?" she asked, frowning. "But ... that would not really make sense, I mean you are just making yourself disappear in one place and appear in another. ACK. I'm just confusing myself now," she mumbled at the end.

Jenna sighed with relief. Off to a good start. She thought hard about the second question, and raised her hand once more.
"Is is to Apparate? Or Dissapparate? That kind of goes back to human transformation, so it would seem to be the most complex/"
