DADA Lesson 1
 

Kass walked into the classroom. she looked around. there was only raven in there "hye there" she said sitting down next to her as she fixed her glove. she put her bookbag down next to her and opened it and took out her book.

Adz walked in and happily took her seat. She got out all her stuff, and waited for instruction.

marvolo walked in."DADA.....cool.i don't want my fate to be detention though."

Laura walked in and sat at her usual seat in the far right corner, as she walked in she smiled at Adz. She got out her wand and put it on the desk in front of her. This would be a great class.

Rosa walked in and muttered 'good to see you, professor!' enthusiastically, but rather soft. then she sat down in the back of the classroom and got out her wand and her books. she couldn't wait to have a real defence against the dark arts class, without nifflers and discussing school rules.

Bailey walked into the classroom and took a seat near the front. She pulled out her textbook and some parchment, and then waited patiently for the class to begin.

Adz waved back at her friends.

Rae stood and moved in front of her desk, perching on the edge. She nodded to the few students who greeted her and studied those who were new to her. "Excellent, we're about ready to begin. Let me just remind you all of a few things. I give you lots of opportunity to speak in this class, but I expect you to speak only to me when I am teaching. If there is a practical part of the class, of course you are welcome to converse with your partner. Also, please refer to me as Professor Rae when we're in here. I know I'm the Headmistress, but when you say that, I always look for Headmistress Loryen. For now, I'm only your Defense professor. We'll wait a few more minutes, but those who are here may remove their quills, parchments, and wands from their bags for now."

ooc: When answering a question, you should RP raising your hand, and then answer immeidately as if I called on you. That will save us time. For example: "Cass raised her hand and said..." Thanks ;).

"o it's you"he said looking at astoria.

Christy entered in the classroom. Books in her right hand and her bag in the other. She took seat next to a Ravenclaw. She took out her parchments and quills and put the books in the table. She couldn't wait for the class begin...

When enetering the classroom, Alex already noticed a few people seated in the desks. With just a small nod tot he teacher, she made her way through the rows and, like usual, took a seat all the way at the back of the classroom. Sighing, she straighten her desk a little and sat down. She slowly took out her quill, parchment and wand out of her bag. After taking everything out that she needed, she placed the bag underneath her seat, making sure that no one would be able to trip over it. She knew from experience that it wasn't nice when you tripped over things in the middle of the class.

Looking around, she noticed a few new faces, she had never seen before, not even at the Welcoming Feast. Well, truth was, she did not even pay much attention to what happened after Headmistress Rae gave her speech. She just kind of drifted away and was lost in her thoughts. And now ... they were coming back again. And the thought that she feared the most. Would they really close Hogwarts down? Could they do that, just to keep the Book of Mysteria inside the castle? By now, she was almost one hundered percent sure that if Hogwarts really needed to be closed down, it would be because of the Book. Why wouldn't they just get rid of it? More and more thoughts kept overlapping each other and her brain, it felt like it was going to explode soon.

She shook her head and snapped back to reality. Giving yet another sigh, she grabbed her quill and started drawing stick figures all over her parchment. She always did that as she waited for class to begin. She was also a bit curious as to what the Professor was going to teach them today. After a while, she just simply started tapping her fingers on the parchment while waiting for all the students to get in and for class to begin.

When hearing Professor Rae talk, her gaze suddenly rested on her. She thought that maybe the class would begin now. But after hearing what she had to say, she gave a small, disappointed groan and went back to her drawing.

A thought suddenly popped up in her mind. If she could catch Porfessor Rae after classes, that meant that she would not have to go to Virohsa to get the password for the office. She was hoping and praying that not a lot of people would remain after class and that the Professor would not leave right away.

Rosa frowned when headm... professor Rae told them to get out their wands and parchment. she grabbed a quill and some parchment and put them on her desk, where her wand was already lying. she was curious what professor Rae was going to teach them and waited rather impatiently for class to start

Amber walked into the class room, and upon noticing Rosa, she sat down in the desk next to her. "Hi, Rosa. What does the professor want us to first?" as she noticed some students messing with their belongings.

Astoria was deep in thought, then she noticed that someone had spoken to her. She turned to the seat that had once been vacant, but was now occupied by her friend Roma. She was relieved it was her and not someone she really didn't know because Astoria didn't take kindly to strangers. She smiled and nodded in greeting to the Slytherin girl who she went through so much with last term.

Astoria looked up at the professor and was shocked to find that it was the Headmistress. She suddenly remembered she had heard from a reliable source that the Headmistress was a teacher but the headmistress from last term had fired her. She was really looking forward to the lesson now. She took out her quill, wand, parchment, and some ink. She ignored the boy who had spoken to her because he was nothing but a troublemaker in her opinion.

Taylor walks into the classroom and sits down in an empty seat, closer to the back. Taking out her books, a peice of parchment, and a quill she wait for class to start.

Rosa looked at the desk behind her and smiled at amber 'oh, hi' she whispered. 'oh. headm... professor rae, well, that's what she wants to call us here in the class, has just told us to get out our wands and parchment and quills I wonder what we're going to do'

Christy received a piece of parchment. It should be from Vicky. The class didn't start yet, so Christy grabbed her stuff and switch her seat from one next to her friend. "Hello Vicky, I'm good and you?" She whispered with a smile.

"Well, I hope that's everyone," Rae closed the door and came back to sit on the edge of her desk. "Good afternoon to you and welcome to our first Defense class. I know some of you from previous years, and I'm sure many of you had quite an experience last year with Professor Perry. I know you may not be pleased with me, but let's get everyone up to speed. We're going to do a brief review of Defense before we get into anything more fun."

She turned and pointed her wand on teh chalkboard. "Now, Defense consists of various areas that are all equally important. We have" and the words began to appear on the board, "Dark Spells, Defense Spells, Dark Witches and Wizards, and Dark Creatures." She turned back to face them with a grin. "If you remember my class at all, you know I'm a stickler for knowing what you have to face and being prepared to face it. The world isn't perfect, but we can make it better. Any thoughts on that list yet?"


ooc: Apparently you misunderstood me. I asked you to take out (aka remove) your supplies.

Lauren Snuck in from the door and took a seat in the back. She got her Quill, parchment, and wand out and was ready to listen.

Amber nodded thanks to Rosa as she obeyed the professor's instruction. After she had finished the task, she sat up straight and folded her hands on her desktop, listening to the professor.
ooc: thanks...yeah I definitely know better. ^_^

Rosa raised her hand hesitantly. 'maybe... dark objects? or potions? I know they're often made by people, but...' she paused for a second to think of what else she could say. 'sometimes those objects live longer than the person who makes them or are more powerfull, aren't they?'

After hearing what professor Rae had said, Zelda took out her wand, quills, ink and 2 rolls of empty parchments and kept them beside her books. And started to wait patiently and excitedly for the class to start.

Christy put her hand in the air and spoke. "Dark Spells are use by Dark Witches and Wizards for kill, manipulate or torture. The Dark Spells are known as Unforgivable Curses, like the Imperious Curse, Cruciatus Curse and the Killer Curse Avada Kedavra.' Christy said the last one with some difficulty.'Dark Criatures are those who are considerate as wizard killers, impossible to train or domesticate, poisonous or dangerous. Defense Spells are used by common wizards to protect themselfs. ' She finally finished her "speach".

Alex raised her hand and spoke slowly, but very clearly. "Dark Spells are spells that only very advanced wizards are usually able to perform and are into Dark Magic. They include things like the Unforgivable Curses. Defense Spells are spells that you use to protect yourself from Dark curses and just spells that are aimed at you. They include things like the Protegro Charm where a shield surrounds you, protecting you from a spell." After saying all thins, she stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. Her mouth was getting a little dry. She would just go to get a drink later on. She still had to finish answering Rae's question first.

"The only Dark Wizard I can really think of would be Lord Voldemort," she said, thoughtfully. "And Lord Voldemortist," she added, quietly. "What Dark Wizards and Witches really do is try to take over with the Dark Arts. That's my theory, anyways," she said, shurgging.

"Now, as for Dark Creatures, they are creatures that bite you, but not necessarily only that. They include things like Dementors, which will suck out your soul if you are not able to protect yourself, Grindylows and Boggarts." After she was done talking, she leaned back in her seat and looked around at other people, listening intently for their answers.

After a moment, she decided that she should perhaps, add to her answer. She raised her hand yet again. "Typical Dark Magic spells are called Curses. There are offensive spells that shoot out of a wand like a gun; curse energy causes physical damage to things it hits besides the magical effect. Hexes and jinxes are lesser spells that adversely affect the target. As mentioned above, these spells are not necessarily Dark Magic. The intention of the caster is what actually makes the difference." After taking in another deep breath, she continued.

"Dark Creatures aren't animals. They don't have life cycles in the same sense that normal animals have. They attack for the sake of hurting someone, not simply to eat. The red caps are a great example. They bludgeon unususpecting travellers so that they can use their blood to stain their cloth caps red. It doesn't give them food, it doesn't allow them to reproduce, they do it purely out of nastiness. One way of thinking about it is to say that they are a physical embodiment of an evil, harmful intent. And if you think about the essence of magic being intent, Dark Creatures are the physical embodiment of Dark Magic."

'As I said before, I know that the Dark Spells/Magic are known as Unforgivable Curses, like the Imperious Curse, Cruciatus Curse and the Killer Curse Avada Kedavra.' Christy responded firmly.

'And about dark items, I really don't know nothing about them, I just know they can be sold at "Borgin and Burkes", a Dark Magic store in the infamous Knockturn Alley.' Christy said with a soft blush

Raven raised her hand once again and spoke clearly. " Dark Spell's such as teh Unforgivable Curses," she paused realising that she didn't know many Dark Potions. "Nifflers, Banshee Basilisks, Kappa and lobalug."

mmarvolo raised his hand."Avada Kerdavra"

Adz raised her hand...
"Um...Curse Conjunctivitis. It's an illness of the eyes that makes eyelids crust together. Attacks the eyes of the victim. It's not that bad - but to the victim it is...

Rosa raised her hand again. 'maybe the transmogryfian torture?' she asked. she'd heard about it, so it wasn't that little known, but it was never mentioned along with the unforgivable curses...

"Actually Avada Kedavra is one of the Unforgivables we just mentioned. We'll talk about those in just a moment. And Raven, those aren't dark objects... those are Dark creatures. We'll discuss those shortly as well.'

ooc: *pokes Raven* I didn't tell you to settle down. I just asked you guys not to answer questions that I haven't even asked. I wanted thoughts on the list, and I got full definitions for every item on it. *pokes again and grins*

Alex blinked repeatedly. She knew that her big mouth would never shut up. With a bit of hesitation she raised her hand once again. "Well, there is Morsmorde which conjures up the Dark Mark," she said, quietly. "And things like the Impediment Jinx, Incarcelous and Taratallegra. Although, I am not quite sure if those would really count as Dark Spells. I mean, yes, they can harm people, but your avarage student here would be able to perform them. Except ... maybe for the first one," she said, frowning.

"Oh .. and there is also Sectumsempra which can be fatal, if you are not careful," she added. She kept staring at the teacher and started stroking her chin slightly, as she was thinking of more Dark spells that were less known to most people.

"sorry....erm....Secrashimpra?"

Adz raised her hand again "Stinging Hex produces a painful red weal on the victim’s body."

' Well...other Dark Spells are Serpensortia, the Stinging Hex, which causes a stinging pain in the victim and Sectumsempra. But I don't have sure if they're dark magic' Christ responded.

"levicorpus.it hangs the victim by the ankles?"

"Thank you professor" Adz smiled, having earned her first 5 points for slytherin.

"Gildory's a froud.everyone knows that."

A dark spell came to Antwone's mind...

"How about the Stinging Hex, it produces a stinging sensation in a victim."

Adz turns to Marvolo. "True" she agreed. "And annoying too apparently..."

Christy was taking notes madly. All the spells, criatures and dark objects were carefully written in her parchment. She was really happy for her accomplishments, she had earn points for her house. She couldn't be more flattered.

Afton looked around. all the darker spells she knew had been taken. she couldnt remember anymore at the moment though. she looked around waiting for the professor to ask another question.

"Nice work Christy."

Antwone, flashed a smile.

Adz brought out a piece of parchment and began to take notes, mostly for the use of Rachel, who was not here for some reason.

Afton raised her hand.
"I know protego(sp?) is a defensive spell. though i dont think its dark..."
She frowned.

Antwone raised his pale hand.

"I believe Ennervate is a defensive spell. It is a counter to the Stunning Spell."

"A shield charm of minor jinxes, i believe."

ooc: srry that was your question...disregard this post.

She looked around.
"Expellilarmus could be used as defence too...and stupefy. and possibly petrificus totalus?"
she hoped those were okay answers.

Melanie raised her hand. "What about Expecto Patronum?"

"Exspelliurmus.dang it someone already said it."

'I think Protego, The Shield charm, Protean, Expelliarmus and Impedimenta are DEfensive Spells, Professor' Christy said.

"It puts a sheild around you to deflect minor jynxes, but it wont protect you against stronger darker ones."
She smiled.

"It is a counter spell to a stunning spell."

Rosa raised her hand 'the patronus charm, to repel dementors'

'Protego is...is...I mean...Creates a magical shield to deflect spells from others.'

"I believe the definition of defensive spells are spells that either repel or counter an opposing force, or other spell in certain matters."

Antwone hopped that was detailed, short and to the point enough.

Raven raised her hand waved it excitedly. "They in some one can be used to defend you."

She raised her hand.
"Hmm..how about.... spells used to protect you against something? or possibly...spells to help someone?"
She knew her answer was poor, but her brian wasnt working the best right now.

Rosa raised her hand 'maybe... they are spells that can undo dark spells cast by a dark wizard?' she said, realising this didn't fit for avada kedavra. 'or can lessen the damage they do,' she added

'Defensive Spellls are used by wizards for protection' Christy said, raising her hand.

Alex raised her hand. "Defensive Spells are spells which help you protect yourself against hexes, curses and other spells that are directed towards you," she said, simply. That was her best guess, and really, she could not find a better way to put it in words, herself. After saying what she had to, she looked around and once again, her ears were wide open (not ... literally >.>) and listening intently for other people's answers and definitions.

Raising her hand again, she added. "These include spells like Expellriamus which disarms your opponent and the Protegro Charm which forms a shield around you, protecting you against common spells and jinxes."

Antwone tried to think of something to add...but nothing came to mind. Antwone dislike when teachers spoke that words. "Anything else to add..." It usually meant that there was something missing to the puzzle.

Raising her hand again, Alex added. "They do not protect you from all curses, jinxes and dark spells out there. There is really no protection against Avada Kedavra," she replied, quietly. Except for that, she did not know what else to add, so she just listened and jotted down a few notes. Although she knew most of the stuff that was being taught today, a few more notes never hurt anyone.

Looking around, she noticed that there were not many fellow Slytherins attending this class. She was a bit disappointed. I mean, if they wanted to win the House Cup again this year, surely they would need to put a lot more effort into it. Sighing, she returned her gaze back on Professor Rae and waited for her, quite patiently to speak again.

Christy kept writting in her parchment, all the professor's and students ideas...

Amber listened as the students gave their answers. She wrote things down and tried to think of something to add.

Sarah payed closs attention to the proffesor, taking in all the information. She wnated to learn everything she could and she would wait for a question that she could answer.

'maybe they can... prevent dark spells cast upon you.' rosa said, putting her quill down and raising her hand 'if somebody'd cast avada kevara on you, there'd be nothing you would be able to do against the spell, but you could disarm him before he could say the entire spell.'

Christy raised her hand 'I think the hex Raven is talking about it's the Protego Charm, Professor'
