Ashlie glanced at the rules, her eyes nearly squinting into her nose as she read. This seemed more like a secret service than it did a club, she realized, her brows furrowing down over the eys. They acted as if they were five years old, not fourteen and up, and, in Ashlie's case, nineteen. This was just bogus.
"Why can't we do it outside of class?" Ashlie asked tartly. "Things simple as this. If we can preform it in here we'll do just as well out there. Why aren't we to be allowed to do that out there then?" |

Professor Fox didn't look very amused with Ashlie's response. "I'm sure you are aware that underage witches are not allowed to do magic outside of school. Furthermore, perhaps these specific things are 'simple', but as I've pointed out even simple experimentation can have dangerous consequences, unless you aren't particularly attached to your phalanges. You are being treated as a student because you are a student. When you become an non-student adult you will be treated as one. You can then also deal with non-student things such as paying bills, working 10 to 12 hours a day, filing permits, answering job evaluations, preparing lectures, and attempting to earn enough money to pay for the materials of experimental clubs not covered by parental fees. Until then, I encourage you to follow the few rules asked and enjoy your free time with your friends. Are there any other issues students have?"

Ashlie merely arched her eyebrow. "It doesn't seem that a particular chaperone Professor wants to be here right now, now does it?" she asked. "As you probably know," she noted with the slightest hint of sarcasm, "I am well over age and I already pay bills and run a life. I work all summer long so that I can have a place to live and so that I can pay my way to go to a school I'm forbidden to attend. I take care of an unruly group of Ravenclaws in the Common Room, but don't worry. I understand how hard it is to help us ickle students run a club. We need a role model to look up to."
Whether she was being sarcastic or not wasn't eveident in her voice or heart and there was no further signs as she pulled the paper to her and signed her name tidily on the line. | |

Ashlie shook her head. "Why, no, Professor. I wouldn't dare a thing." Again, she hinted no sarcasm, no snide terms, merely stated the words she spoke. She met his eyes daringly though, showing that she wasn't going to let him walk all over her. She was just as adult as he was and she too had bills to pay for and a life to get through.
But poor Mr. Foxxy has such a hard life, she told herself in her mind by means of mock baby voice. | |
