Sugar Hill Asylum for the InsaneThe Muggles avoid this decrepit old asylum... mostly because of the rumors that it's haunted! The Specialty Area has set up shop here. Sorry about the ghosts!
The Chaucer Ward used to be an area that was utilized for recreational purposes among the patients. Many Asylum doctors believed that Occupational Therapy would work best for the population and taught them accordingly; sewing, billiards, and playing instruments being some of the more mundane tasks. For the Department's purposes, though, the Chaucer Ward has been set up as a mock Daycare, with all the protection charms and magic included.
The entire room as been renovated and repaired from it's previous dismal state. Where peeling, chipped paint and wallpaper once occupied, a clean, clinical white and dove gray has taken its place. The floor, no longer shabby carpets and cracked tile, is now a pleasantly varnished dark wood. New toys, games, and books are housed in book shelves around the room. For all intents and purposes, this is the SAFEST AREA in the building.
All Ministry children are welcome!
OOC: This is an RP thread. So, RP dropping your kids off and signing papers. The Daycare Supervisor, Athena Smith (JennMarie) or the Department Head, Anthony Cresswell (Govoni) will be with your shortly.

Er....
What was he on about? Ashley blinked trying to see what Zeke was trying to get out of everything he was spewing to her uncle. Was it pity? Did he want to make him feel bad? There was talk about Emily so she would assume as much but....The girl shook her head. He was waaaaaay out of his league with this one.
Avery still didn't know what they were talking about but they'd dropped it by and she didn't think asking would give her answers so instead she watched Zeke. It was kinda funny how he kept rattling off like that. Her uncle wasn't listening and if he was he wasn't proper going to take him serious. It's why she didn't use words anymore. Not really anyway. She shot Ashley a look, trying to to snicker and ruin her half pout she was trying to use on her uncle. It was giggle worthy though and she wouldn't tell him otherwise.
Yeah she saw the look her sister shot her and bit her lip so she wouldn't burst into giggles. Zeke needed to learn.
The 'well' was enough to tell him that the boy wasn't about to drop this. Gavin spared a glance at the clock across the room. He wasn't so crunched for time that he'd simply walk away. Hearing him out would be easy enough. The logic of a child had the tendency to amuse him on the odd occasion.
It was to be noted that the boy didn't do handshakes, they could get along just fine--good faith. Gavin raised an eyebrow at him. It sounded oddly like a form of guilt manipulation. Something along the lines of 'pinky swear with me or I'll be scarred for life and you'll be to blame then I'll hate you forever'. It didn't leave the man impressed, rather, he refused to believe that was all he could come up with. Good faith? The man was once a Slytherin, the only faith he needed existing was the one in himself.
His earlier look of disbelief melted and was replaced with one of amusement, his lips twitching into a half smirk. Clever boy mentioning Emily, it would have worked...on someone else. "Yes, I do think she'd be upset, terribly upset but then what?" She'd be upset he wouldn't pinky promise a little boy then........break up with? Stop talking to him forever? Never go back to France with him? "The world doesn't work quite the way you think it does. I assure you, she'd get over it," Gavin looked to Ms. Smith before sparing him another glance and a matter of fact look. "and so would you."
He sighed at the still outstretched pinky then lowered it slowly. "If you can't trust my words then you definitely can't trust my pinky."
The weekend? This weekend. He gave it some thought, mentally going over his schedule. Weekends weren't as empty as they should have been and the girls had other committments. "If you can convince Ashley to miss football and Avery to miss ballet then I don't see why not. Barring that it'd have to wait until sometime in the late afternoon." Did anyone go to the zoo at that late hour? It seemed almost pointless given the zoo was something near an all day event.
SPOILER!!: Sneaky kid
Ashley was watching, always watching and saw the look Zeke gave her. That's all they'd been doing, passing looks. Ashley eyed the woman grinning at her uncle. Right. Mhm. She made for the desk behind her but once she was as far as Zeke she began taking small steps too.
Next stop, who knows, they had the whole building to explore. She shot her sister expectant looks. Come on Avery. As much as she pretended she didn't want her coming, she did. Not that she'd ever admit it if asked.
She wasn't going, nope nope nope. Was the word 'non' not registering to anyone? It sounded just the same in English. There should have been no misunderstandings so the girl would be standing right here.
Her eyes widened a bit at the looks--she got looks! She never got looks! She could go with them!!!--where the noises were. Nope. Nope she was standing right here, merci.
He wasn't stuuuuuupiiiidddd... he knew what it felt like to have others looking at him and whispering about him and exchanging looks about him. He got it on a daily basis for as long as he could remember, now was no different. Therefore, he didn't care. The girls could stand and be mean, he was simply trying to get them all a good deal. If they didn't want in on it... FINE. He'd have it for himself.
After flashing a quick and disapproving look to the girlies, Zeke turned back and focused his attention on Gavin again. Did he not understand that Emily would break things... things that might be broken on him, if not him. But theeeennn what? "Well, then you'd be in trouble. Seee.. she's stuck with me forever, but as far as I can tell you're not married to her, so if you make things difficult for me and I get upset and I upset Emily, then she'll be upset with you for upsetting me." Seriously, how many more times did he need to say it? If Gavin wanted things to work, pleasing him would be a good way of going about it. Mmhhhmmm.
Emily wouldn't get over it, not if he reminded her of it every day, and he wouldn't get over it if he had to be bored and missing out on fun stuff all the time because they worked and stuff.
It was becoming clear that Gavin wasn't going to pinky with him, so he dropped his hand, his eyes narrowing slightly. Trust his words. Words were nothing without action - like pinky swears.
Perhaps though he'd still be useful with zoooo plans, because he couldn't make those on his own, there was only so much he could do to plead with Emily, but her no was a no. Which is why he needed leverage, like the hopes of two girlies and her boyfriend. They had to be as invested in this as he was for it to work. "Oooohhh, you guys can skip this weekend so we can zooo, yeah?" he asked turning to them, all smiles again.
....
....
.....
Would they be caught? Zeke looked back at Ashely - she was good with tagging along and stuff. Being locked up here might not be too bad so long as they could wander around. He paused long enough to motion for Avery to hurry, because really, she didn't want to be left by herself. It might scare her or something.

He paused long enough to motion for Avery to hurry, because really, she didn't want to be left by herself. It might scare her or something.
Zeke's disappointed looks did very little to Ashley. She still found it funny how he wanted her uncle to make pinky promises and the way he was trying to so hard with words that wouldn't work either, so yeah, she was ignoring his looks in favour of glancing around the room again. If there were other kids being dropped off she couldn't see them coming and didn't think she wanted them on their adventure either.
Whaaaaat? Avery's brows crinkled at the look Zeke was giving her. She didn't DO nothing. It was him that was being funny. How come he didn't think they would snicker? That's what people did when others did something funny DUH. It only made her cling tighter to her uncle. Least he wasn't giving her looks...yet.
Gavin could appreciate that the kid was trying to use logic. Interesting logic at that. He seemed to know the ins and outs of manipulation enough to make a decent case for himself and again it was applause worthy...but ineffective at most. When playing cards like those you needed to be sure the person sitting across the table from you didn't have a soaring ego. Gavin wasn't worried about his relationship with Emily, not even a little. Marriage wasn't something either of them had factored into the equation but that didn't make him any less permanent.
He gave a firm nod. "She would be upset at me, all kinds of upset for upsetting you. It'd cause problems for sure." He might have been patronizing him just a bit but it was better than having him think he wasn't top priority for Emily. "But it's just a pinky promise. It's not that serious and mature people wouldn't take it that seriously. It's the type of thing I wouldn't even expect from Avery so certainly not you either." Geddit?
He must have gotten it because his eyes were narrowing. That was an interesting enough sign.
The smile wasn't anymore convincing than his words. Zeke wanted her to miss football to go somewhere she'd already been. Was he even listening to himself? They had a match coming up, she was going to impress her coach and get to play striker. The magizoo could wait. Or well..."I'll think about it." But that was all she'd promise for now.
Missing Ballet? Non non non. You didn't miss ballet. She would miss a dance, not learn a step, fall into the group dance. Noooon. She glanced up at her uncle first for suggesting it then over at Zeke for thinking it could work. If she missed ballet the world would end and she'd die. Skip? Jamais!
But...but Ashley was thinking about it. That was never good. Thinking led to things happening. Avery didn't respond, she just looked to her uncle again wondering how serious he was being.
SPOILER!!: Zeke and Ze ghost's dolly

Zeke caught her attention again when his fingers flew to his lips. Her brows crinkled while she tried to understand but it wasn't until he pointed that she saw...saw that. It looked like a doll. The first she'd seen in this place. At the very least they could have an operation on it so she hastened her steps after Zeke. A glance back said Avery hadn't seen and still wasn't coming. "Regardez Avery, une poupée." Her sister liked dolls, oui? Come on.
She wasn't looking. It was probably something scary--a doll?? Wheeeere? The 7 year old scanned the area Zeke and Ashley were headed to and saw a doll sticking out that wasn't there before. A pretty one too. Could she play with it if she went? Slowly She released her uncle's hand and started after them.
How come it wasn't there before? She would have gone with them sooner.
Regardez Avery, une poupée = Look Avery, a doll.

Yes she was positive that was all Gavin needed to do, his nieces we're signed in and all set to go so taking the paper back from hi she flashed him a grin "That's all, they're all set." So he was free to go to work now, where ever that was for him. "and we'll see you later." she said putting the sign in sheet where it Belonged and even put a paperweight on it. it wouldnt be moving so easily this time. Take THAT spirits!!
And with Gavin gone she turned to the direction she sent the kids and leaned back on her sign in desk and just grinned at them, what were they doing? crazy kids. Where did they think they were going? clearly they room she pointed to was straight ahead and not veered off to the left like they were going... so they wanted to explore? Surely they couldn't do that just yet, she hadnt been able to explore it either and she couldn't take them into parts of the building that weren't safe. "That way guys." she said pointing to the other room and making her way towards it's entrance. and that's when she saw it.
The Doll.
"Is that yours, Avery?" How did it get all the way over there already? had she thrown it, she had to of. With the way it was just creeping out by the wall as if it got stuck on an old rusted nail sticking out of the wall. "were you going to go get it?" because if they were she could go grab it for her. In fact she would, making her way towards the Ghost!Child unknowingly she rubbed her arms as a cold chill fell over her. what was that? Was there a presence present? she'd personally think it's awesome but the children, well they might think otherwise.

He'd had enough of the place. He wanted Emily, and he would go to any lengths to get her to pick him up early. This was now his mission. Gavin was being a party pooper, and so was Ashley and Avery. No zooo for them. He'd get Emily to say yes eventually and then he'd go without them.. see how they liked them apples.
"Uh huh... sureeee," he replied to Gavin, eyes on the man in the same way Emily looked at him when he was about to make a big mistake. There would be repercussions to not humouring him... what those repercussions would be, he hadn't figured that out yet.
Zeke shrugged at Ashley and Avery. He might not need them after all, there was still Lola, and he knew she liked creatures, they'd even drawn them together. Annnnndddd, Rusty was cool and nice too. They would be his allies, he was sure of it... and he knew where he would find them too. "You know what? It'll be sad if you can't make it, but I'm sure Lola and I will have funnnn..." he wasn't above guilt tripping or making people jealous. He could still do with a back up plan seeeeee, and he was willing to let Lola be the backup plan, should the A Team not wanna play along.

And there were the magic words he'd been waiting to hear for some time now. That was it and he could leave. It wasn't to say he was eager to be rid of the children, quite the opposite, he liked them but he had an office to get to and a decrepit building to not have people dying in so he was fine with Zeke giving him looks, so long as he wasn't going on about pinkies anymore because Gavin would have had to become unintentionally rude by cutting him off to leave. "Alright, remember the deal, be good and we all go wherever you guys want for lunch tomorrow."
Don't behave and be stuck here another day. It was there choice and he was a man of his word. Either way things played out would be entirely up to them. "Have a good day." He said, sparing Ms. Smith a nice enough smile before turning to lea--
"Uncle Gavin wait!" She was so caught up with the doll that she almost forgot, and it looked like her uncle had forgotten too. Avery spared a quick glance at the doll before trotting over to him. "You forgot your goodbye kiiissssssss." She insisted, getting up on tippy toes. Ahem. She was waiting.
.......Right......
Gavin crouched so he was at her level and waited for the persistent 7 year old to peck his cheek. The moment she did, he ruffled her hair and gave a final goodbye. Really, he had to go.
Ashley watched her uncle leave, not at all feeling deserted but rather, a bit freer to get some exploring done without certain looks and flicks to the ear or forehead. This was the perfect environment for her to thrive but Zeke was getting difficult. She didn't know what a Lola was and she didn't care. "If you wanna take someone else to the zoo then go ahead and be mean about it. I said I would think about it and you already wanna take someone else." Rude. At least give her a chance to decline first! "That mean you don't wanna come with us?"
Who was Lola? How come she didn't know her? Could they be friends? She liked friends. Oh but she also liked not having to share her uncle with Zeke and Emily so......that was kinda cool. They could go somewhere BETTER than the magizoo. She kept quiet though because they were talking stuff out.

Ms. Smith was catching on and wanting them going the next way. The 9 year old found herself nodding with Zeke. "Oui. I want to go that way. It looks fun." And the little girl was in no way asking permission but rather she was stating a fact. There was something this way and absolutely nothing that way.
No comments about the owner of the doll. Avery didn't have one like that but she wouldn't say because the lady might freak than try to make them hide somewhere else. Don't ask her, she didn't know how these things worked.
Was the doll hers? "Oui--" Er..."Yes." The child said with a perfectly straight face. Yes the doll was hers. It was hers now because no one else was claiming it and the lady asked HER! So there!
Avery slowly inched towards it as well, even with Ms. Smith already doing so. The lady couldn't have it. Not after they said it was hers.

Oh, no no no they were not going that way. She hadn't even been that way yet and there was no way children were exploring before she got the chance to. "that's not our area though, we have to go over here." she said stepping in front of the children as they kept making their way towards the hall where the doll was. The doll that she... and Avery, she supposed were getting. Her shoes clicked along the floor as she made her way there before her hand grasped the dolls arm, which wasnt stuck on anything, not to her knowledge anyway and this Puzzled Athena. Maybe there was a sticking charm on the wall? Though she wasnt sure why there would be.
Putting her hand out for Avery to stop walking Athena slowly turned to peer around the door frame. Was anyone there!? Just then a chill ran down her spine almost as if someone breathed on her neck and scared the heeby jeebes out of her. Cool building was Cool!

Remember the deal .... he wouldn't be forgetting, and he hoped Gavin wouldn't be either. Or else Emily could do that thing where she could use his memories as evidence in that pensleave thingy she spoke about. Still, he was skeptical about this being a good day if they couldn't get out and have proper food with Emily and stuff, he would have to pin his hopes on finding something worth exploring here.
Ashley, wasn't getting it. "I'd rather go with youse, which is why I asked, but if you're too busy..." then he could find someone else. Simply that. He had his preferences, and would stick to them, but at the end of the day he wouldn't waste opportunities. "Saying you'll think about it sounds like a no, just saying." It was one of those excuses people used when they didn't want to hurt other peoples' feelings, or if they just wanted to avoid you. He'd witnessed it more times than he could count feathers on a hippogriff.
Ms Smith... wasn't making things seem any better here. He was bored with her already, and to think she showed such promise earlier on. Tsk tsk tsk, it was a shame. She didn't even let them go and get the doll, she had to go and be a party pooper and spoil all their adventuring fun.
"This place sucks... I want to play," he muttered under his breath. Could they sneak around a different way? Was there a window he could crawl out of? And air duct he could try to get into?
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
It was a little weird that the doll would just be sitting around like that and she thought maybe it really was something epic but then they were being told it wasn't their area. What? None of this was their area, right? It was meant to be back at the pretty building not here.
For a moment her attention shifted from Ms. Smith and her forbidding hand. He'd rather go with them. Oh! That was different then. "I didn't put football on Saturday on purpose." She tried reasoning, taking on a tone her uncle had sometimes when he was trying to be patient with her and her sister. "It just happened that way. That doesn't make it a 'no'." How did that make anything a 'no'. "If I meant no I would'a said so." The little girl thought it over another moment. "Does it have to be this weekend?"
Avery was not having any of this. That doll was hers now and Ms. Smith was trying to tell her otherwise. Well she wasn't listening, so even when the lady put her hand out Avery ducked under it and kept walking. Very vaguely was she aware of the conversation between Ashley and Zeke. When they were ready to tell her stuff they would, 'sides, she was kinda trying to first Ms. Smith to the dolly.
Again the hand was put out and Again the short 7 year old ducked under it, this time snatching the doll. It was HERS now. "Why's it so cold? Uncle Gavin never packed me an extra jacket." Had to make this known with this chill and all.
"Yeah...no kidding." Ashley looked around the room trying to scope out any other exits. "See anything promising?"

The mommy and daddy were leaving and her friends were staying. And look! They were coming over to play! Maybe now she could show herself since the other pretty lady was busy.
Anna was most certainly not hers! She was not letting her new friend steal her favorite dolly. When the pretty lady tried to grab Anna, she tugged with all of her might back. The woman was not taking the dolly from her.
...but where were they going? She wanted to play. At least the one was staying. Even if it was the doll stealer. AND SHE STOLE ANNA WHEN SHE WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION!
She quietly began to sing. She needed to distract her doll stealing friend so she could get her Anna back.
