Start-of-Term FeastThe time has come to say HELLO to another year at Hogwarts! Enjoy a great meal and good conversation with friends before classes in the morning!
For those who belong in Gryffindor House, on the left side of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Red banners containing an embroidered golden lion float above the polished table in honour of the brave Godric Gryffindor. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.
Though your stomach might be growling as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Winterbottom to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.
A new year, and a new term! She was a fifth year! Tasting the word in her mouth the dark haired lioness took her usual seat at the front end of the Lion table waiting for her fellow lions to arrive. Pulling out a candy packet of something a boy had given her on the train Rose plucked it into her mouth without looking too closely at it. Something to chew on while she waited for the dinner to arrive, was a good start she thought. In a matter of seconds though Rose felt how something started to grow in her face. Something hairy too, what had she eaten? Getting frightened, she reached up to touch her face gently.. Was that hair? Was she growing a beard? No, not good. What if someone saw her? This would be so embarrassing.

Nadia was positively bouncing.
Yep, one energetic, smiling lioness made her way to the Gryffindor table for Start-of-Term Feast. Seventh year was upon her and Dy and it was something to take in for sure. Her gaze shifted briefly towards the Hufflepuff table to spot the familiar face of her twin. Sure there was those end of term exams their Dad had kept reminding them of as they prepared for this last year, but the lion was trying keep thoughts of the impending NEWTs at bay as best she could. Yes, she would study plenty for them and not totally ignore those pesky academics that served as back-up. Even if they weren’t her real focus given her future career plans.
"Hey," she greeted the 5th year nearby with a friendly smile. Don't mind her, she's just a touch distracted with her thoughts.

Licking the tip of her self-inking quill as she slipped into her usual spot along the expansive Gryffindor bench, Diamond jotted down a few noticeable observations and embellished them for Quill purposes. Maybe one of these leads would be something useful for her next Witch Weekly submission. Whispers about a secret Hufflepuff plant-themed gathering happening in the depths of the greenhouse, Ravenclaws clipping the broom tails of the Gryffindor captain's broom while it waited for its owner in the luggage compartment (sabotage or weird quidditch flirting ritual?), first-year students have reported seeing a shadowy figure slipping past the edges of the grounds while on their boat rides across the lake and possible pack of sixth year Slytherins being involved, the sudden change in relationship status between a seventh year Gryffindor sweethearts after ride from London and eyewitnesses swearing they saw a phial of something experimental being slipped into a cauldron cake...there was plenty to go off of if you added the right bells and whistles to things. Unfortunately, the first years were being offensively boring this term with their Sortings and reactions to them, no nepo babies having a complete meltdown which then resulted in the Sorting Hat being trampled by first year fee and instant detention awarded in front of the whole school... she nearly groaned from boredom until the sweet sound of anxious breathing tickled her ears and drew her attention towards her slightly younger housemate.
Hair growth potion? It wasn't as juicy as she might have liked but it was a whole lot more interesting than the other kumbaya moments everywhere else.
So sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide right on down she did until she was practically thigh to thigh with Rose. "So, new trend or exposé on ‘beard care’ tips? OR are you perhaps looking to see if there is any truth to the muggle stereotype of wise wizards and them sporting impressive beards considering this IS your OWL year and any leg up is a good leg?"
Nadia received a swift wave as a bit of an afterthought - the girl seemed off in her own headspace feeling fancy and free in a Daydream Charm OR escaping suspicion in fantasy...title and contents of that gossip pending.

As much as she complained about returning to school, Billie secretly didn't mind. Sure, she had her OWLs this year, and that was basically the worst thing that could ever happen, but this was where all her friends where. Being able to share a room with your best friends, and see them all the time, make plans on a whim - that really was something wonderful about boarding school. Sure, she'd miss her dance lessons and all of the free time - but if her friends were here, why would she want to be at home?
Having spent the train and carriage journeys with Brayla, the twins parted on entrance to the Great Hall with promises to catch up later. Billie watched her sister head over to the Hufflepuff table, briefly catching a glimpse of Reuben (ugh, the school would be a much better place when her cousin had graduated next year), before turning her attention to finding a seat at the Gryffindor table. Once settled, she cast her gaze around the hall again - this time settling on a familiar face at the Slytherin table. Or, rather, a familiar mop of hair, because it seemed that Yves was asleep. Propping an elbow on the table and her chin in her hand, Billie drifted off into a daydream where Yves was asleep on her lap, and she was playing with his hair. If only. Suffice to say, her attention was far away from anything happening in the vicinity.

Though he'd initially been seated elsewhere at the table, Charlie had quickly grown bored and decided to seek greener pastures. That is, find a better spot with better company. He'd abandoned the cluster of kids he neither knew nor cared to know, and wandered a little way further down the table, until he'd found a familiar face who might even be better company.
Charlie took the spot next to Billie, nudging the adjacent student until they'd shuffled down the bench with no small amount of grumbling, and followed her line of sight. It was difficult to know exactly who or what she was looking at given how many people were gathered here and could be seen in that general direction, but ultimately he supposed it didn't really matter.
"You know you're drooling, right?" Charlie said, waving a hand in front of her face, all the better to get her attention. She wasn't drooling, but still. He could have been less polite. He hadn't even pointedly mentioned his birthday, mostly because he knew Billie was already aware. Presents had been promised.

In the time that it took Elena to walk to the Gryffindor table after her sorting (which was less than thirty seconds) she mentally declared the sorting hat to be her mortal enemy. How hard was it to just do what she told it to do and place her in Slytherin with Alexei? Sure, it didn't think that would be the place to help her thrive, but what did that even mean? Why couldn't she thrive anywhere?
Elena took a seat at the Gryffindor table, on the side of the table facing the Slytherin one so that she could keep her twin in her sights. She sent him a helpless sort of look. It wasn't that she was upset about being a Gryffindor, per se. In different circumstances, she would be pretty excited. And she was excited, actually. Just, the excitement wasn't strong enough to break through the surface emotions at the moment. Those primarily bring upset at the hat for not listening to her and for separating her from Alexei. And, though she was loathe to admit it, nervousness. Elena wasn't often nervous. She was what some might call an extrovert. She liked meeting new people and talking to them. But she hadn't often been in a place with quite so many new people, and of varying ages. It would be different if the only people she had to contend with were her fellow first years. But she refused to let her fears overtake her. She sat up straight and held her chin in the air as she glanced up and down the table. She was rather excited to find out who her new dormmates were.

"Hey," she greeted the 5th year nearby with a friendly smile. Don't mind her, she's just a touch distracted with her thoughts.
"Hey!" Rose greeted back with an equally friendly smile to the slightly older 7th year girl that had plopped herself down in a seat nearby at the lion table. "Did you have a good summer? I'm Rose by the way, and you are?" Rose queried conversationally. How the other girl hadn't noticed her facial hair yet was odd to say the least, but she was thankful that the other girl didn't seem to be very observant. If only Rose had asked that guy what candy he was giving out before accepting it and eating it.

Perfect! Just perfect. Rose's beard sporting had unfortunatley not gone so unnoticed, and it was observed by a quill reporter too. When Diamond slid down the bench until they sat practically thigh to thigh there was no escape. Rose had nowhere to flee so it was better to face the questions head on. Swallowing a breath Rose turned her dark eyes to the other girl giving her a long look and slightly nippy answer. "No, to new school trend unless you too have eaten the beard growing candy i just did? Beard care tips?"
What was the other girl babbling about? "I'm not exactly fond of looking like a hairy dame," Rose added with a gesture to her face that felt like it was sprouting more hair than she she'd liked to feel. "That's what I guess I'm looking like right now since I don't have a mirror." It'd be horrible if she was growing so much hair that she was looking like a female santa or worse and that wasn't something she wanted to endure if she could help it.

"Hey! Congrats to joining Gryffindor! I'm Rose." Rose offered to the first year girl that had just taken a seat at the table with a friendly smile she hoped was seen admist all the facial hair. She had a feeling, even though she hadn't exactly paid attention to this girl's sorting that the girl hadn't been sorted into the house that she wanted. She was going to come around though Rose was certain since gryffindor was by far the best house.

Though she was aware of the presence next to her, Billie didn't pull herself out of her reverie until the hand was waved in front of her and the voice spoke. "Am not." Her tone was one of confident defiance, and a little annoyance - really, Charlie? She sat back with a frown, and as he chin left her palm she attempted to subtly check that she wasn't drooling. As confident as she was, there was always a small chance that she was going to embarrass herself. Pleased at the lack of drool, she cast on last glance toward the Slytherin table before turning her attention fully to the birthday boy.
"See, that is a prime example of why sweet and Charlie don't belong in the same sentence." The brunette tugged on the end of her hair and pouted prettily. Or what she thought was prettily, at least. "Maybe I'll rescind the birthday presents."
She wouldn't, mainly because it would be fun for her, too. But she could!

The extra hair growth clearly the results of a prank the likes her Papa Adi loved, at least he says when he was younger. Maybe she was immune to finding it weird? “Nadia…” she answered, returning Diamond’s wave as well. “It was pretty good actually,” she remarked, not really having anything to complain about at home.
“Don’t worry about it,” the seventh year tried to assure Rose who confirmed where the beard came from. “Effects from pranked candy don’t usually last that long. Plus…I’m sure most people have a ton of other things to focus on tonight to notice.” Or care. Case in point her own distraction. In case the younger girl was really worried about others causing her further embarrassment.
Woah...was she feeling awkwardly mature offering comfort and advice.

Bria had been elsewhere along the Gryffindor table after her Sorting, mingling with another first year who had been sorted before her and chatting it up with older peers to pick and peck at them about extracurriculars and which ones they took and where the chickens were kept on the grounds - to her disappointment, there were none but she was likely to find them in Hogsmeade when the time came! Perhaps it was because she was being too chatty or perhaps the prefect really did just want to be a good Summeritain, but soon the blonde was being directed towards another girl who was new to the table which meaaaaaaant that they were going to be dormmates!
Thanking those she had been chatting with, Bria swung her legs over the bench and trotted down the long table to plop herself beside the new girl...who's name she had unfortunately not heard due to her not entirely paying attention to the Sorting Hat and its announcements nor the names being called prior to said announcements. "G'day!" she chirped with a wave (that ended up looking more like enthusiastic flailing right in front of the other girl's face). "I'm Bria, a first year too! Looks like we're going to be dormmates! I just got a couple of tips from those down there at the other end of the table. Apparently, ghosts will give you extra help on your homework if you ask nicely...which seems lucky since one of the professors IS a ghost ... and one of the professors is actually a vampire...but I'm not so sure about that one, seems a furphy to me." Maybe she ought to have kept the latter to herself since she hardly believed it. Oh well. "Or maybe they meant that they had a vampire bat for a pet...thought would be bonzer! Did you bring a pet to school this term too?"

BOOOOOOOOOOOORING.
Diamond made sure that 'beard growing candy' was added to the notepad. She hadn't exactly expected more in a response, and she could absolutely still work with this, but the situation needed a bit more zest. "Hairy dame? Don't know about that but I reckon there are a few kneazles who would be jealous of your coat," she hummed and added 'unknowingly consumed' beside the previous note. "Also seems like you're the only one suffering from this affliction. A targeted attack, perhaps, or is this some dimwit's attempt to catch your attention and therefore an embarrassing display of flirtation? Care to comment?" An old, gross, horrendously misguided trope but also the sort of thing people just ate up for whatever reason.
Speaking of boring...Nadia's attempt at peacekeeping nearly solicited a yawn. Could she not see that there was an attempt for decent gossip here? Sure Diamond could have suggested, as she would have done if she were in such a predicament, to own the moment and not let them see you sweat or get all worked up over the prank - because that is what the aim of these immature but amusing scenes were - but where was the fun in that? "Sure sure, like she said, a couple of hours tops most likely. Hopefully you won't be coughing up any furballs later or through tomorrow," she nodded sagely.
But, of course, she checked her notepad to make sure additional memos were had about Nadia's casual dismissal of things which was totally sus with the right framing.

Charlie gave a little, but perfectly detectable, smirk. It wasn't that he necessarily lived to annoy people, but it was kind of amusing when the opportunity presented itself. But then his smirk turned to a smile, his most sweetest of sweet smiles, the one that could unlock all kinds of doors and win over the softest of hearts, the one he knew would not fool Billie even a little bit.
"I don't think that's true," he said, still oh-so-sweetly, and he meant it. At least in the sense that he didn't think it was a prime example. "But that might hurt my feelings. Could you really do that to a friend?" His eyes glittered with such innocent guile.
Those tiny smirks were soooo irritating. Mainly because it meant Charlie was trying to get a reaction, but also because they could be kind of hot, and she was pretty sure the boy knew it. Whatever. Pretty quickly, though, the smile had arrived and elicited a laugh from Billie, and she was able to stop being annoyed. "You may have the Professors fooled with that, but not me," she said, poking his lips lightly with a finger. She was pretty sure that most people would be taken in by it, but she knew better.
She rolled her eyes a little but didn't say anything, because arguing with him was pointless. Though if he did want a list of the reasons he was the opposite of sweet, she was sure she could provide! It would just take a while, probably, because there were so many. "I could and you know it," she said pointedly. Though she didn't like hurting her friends feelings (which didn't stop her from doing it often and unknowingly), she absolutely would do it if he didn't stop annoying her.
Yves wouldn't do this to her.
