I think the official answer is that rules don't transfer, but SS rules say that for an offsite link to be posted HERE, the site must conform to rules. So if you'd like for your article to be useable as a reference on SS, you should follow SS rules.

How do you add a page under under the characters category? I've never used a wiki before :)

Create a page by clicking on "Add a Page". After you publish your page, scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see "Categories." Click on "Add category," type in "Characters," press enter, then save, and your character will be under the characters category.

It's so cool being able to look up Transfiguration and seeing all the spells you haven't learnt in class yet with all incantations, wand movements and what they do.

Is this the spell you created? I am almost certain that we already use the incantation "reverto" in the SSRPG as a counter to transfiguration spells, so if you can keep it, you might have to change the incantation to avoid confusion.

That is not to say that you can make them, though. Personally, I wouldn't mind it, but the wiki is intended to be SS-canon and spell creation tends to be exclusive to Staff members. If everyone could create spells then it would get a little... messy. :lol: I suppose it's just one of the perks of being a staff members. But I will poke Ern about this. :D

Yes, you can. :yes: BUT, if there's already a school in the area you were thinking of creating one for, I strongly encourage you to just use the already existing ones. You don't have to, but his way it's a little less confusing, and much cooler because characters could have met abroad or studied abroad at the same schools and stuff. :D This is why when I created a school in Finland I wanted to keep the description basic so that others could jump in if their characters went there.

Clarification. I don't think it matters if you use it in SSRPG. It's just that when it comes to recording it in the wiki, we want to stick to canon things. if Ern disapproves maybe you can just move it to your character's bio page, instead of making a separate one, so that it's part him but not the entire SSRPG. Hope that makes sense. :)

Here are my thoughts on posting your own spells:

First, once its posted on the wiki, it becomes communal SSRPG property. You can't be upset if people use it and don't credit you, and if it turns up in a class someday, feel warm and fuzzy inside but don't be shocked :). I've done some awesome things in the RPG, and the wiki is a way to remember that fondly, but its also a way for other people to use it. Eventually, someone who sends their kid to a school I've created or uses a spell I explained or eats at a restaurant I named will do so without knowing that I'm the one who thought it up and may use what I created in a way I didn't intend. It's the down side of sharing, I guess, but it's also nice to see where someone can take something you started.

The other thing is that Luke knows (and agrees, I think) that I'm a big ol' stickler for being canon in our RPG. He and I will be glancing through member created spells as we stalk the wiki, and if something doesn't fit the world as JKR created and SS has expanded upon, then it will be removed. Fair warning.

I completely understand. :yes: No, I don't mind if it (the spell) being used without credits. I intended on sharing it with other RPers anyways. But if it seems unsuited to you, I respect your decision to remove the page. :)

I made two templates to help you. One is the character profile inbox and the other is for the body of your character's page. First, when you edit or create a page, make sure it's in Source and not Visual. These two tabs will be at the top of your page. It will automatically go to visual, so you must make sure to change it before you add the codes.

Here is a character profile inbox template to help you guys. This is what typically goes on the right hand side with the basics of your character.



P style will put the box on the right, unless you want it on the left, then just replace "right" with "left." You can remove any tiles and rows or add them if you want.

Here is what the coding for Eino's would look like.



Now here's a template for the body of your page.



You can edit, add, remove any of those, obviously. :) The table of contents shows up automatically, so you don't have to worry about adding that.

All you have to do is copy and paste the templates then replace the information with your character's information. You can just use info you have written for "Who's Who in [your House here]?" threads or the "Biography" threads in the RPG Haven.

I hope that helps, and if you run into any trouble or need more templates don't hesitate to nudge me.

I am so haaaaaaaaaappy!! I finally fixed the infobox colors!! :woot: I have been trying forever and could never find the right place to do it but I finally did it. The only thing I still can't figure out is the tiny border around it, but that's not a big deal.

Here is what they look like now, but if it's too dark/ugly I can change it. If it doesn't look different, then you must clear your cache.

Also, sevensnared, I hope you don't mind me using your charrie's page as example. It's just so awesome. :D

I made two more templates. One of them is a timeline template, requested by EmeliaWeasley on the wiki. I wasn't sure what you/she meant, so I just came up with this. Hopefully, it's worth something. Remember to use SOURCE instead of VISUAL



As always, you can edit whatever is inside the equal signs, and the asterisk makes bullet points, so if you don't want those just remove them.

I also made a template for family trees for Ern, but anyone can use it.



This template thing is very confusing and complicated to work/mess with, but if you feeling particularly techy, then go HERE to check out how to mess with them. Because all family trees are different, I can't really make a one tree fits all, especially since this coding is tricky to work with.

I also always suggest you PREVIEW before you post. Don't use visual, it will always look messy. Always use source, then preview (button on the right next to publish).

If you desperately want a family tree that fits your family, but you reaaaaaaally can't get around to working the codes, and you're willing to sell your soul, then I will try to make it for you. Can't make any promises, but your soul is mine regardless.

Just to back up what Luke is saying, the family tree coding is VERY complicated, but it is manageable. For an example of what it looks like, you can check out my page here, scroll down to the bottom to see the tree.

I'm willing to help, as I'm sure Luke is, so give me a nudge about it. For people who post in here for help, I'm never sure if someone has gotten to the problem before I read, so I generally do not respond. If that is not the case, it is better to PM or VM me specifically for assistance.

That's simple. Go to EDIT..

Then you'll be brought to the visual mode. Point that green puzzle thingy with your mouse (the infobox should appear) then click edit. Change the imagewidth into possibly 250 and you're set.

Or..maybe I'll just edit it for you?

So... i'm trying to make a wikia page too yay but i have trouble finding out how you make a box like everyone else has. I mean the box on the right where people have their character's names and photo in a red box and the basics are described under it.
