Job Description:Alchemists are tasked with the research, study, and creation of live giving materials. They may be asked to leave the Ministry to investigate claims of eternal youth and/or life. These Unspeakables study the plane between life and death and work closely with the Veil. Positing theorems on possible means of life extension via elixirs or otherwise is also commonplace. Alchemists may work closely with magical creatures associated with death, including but not exclusive to phoenixes, threstrals, dementors, and inferi. Horcruxes and the soul are also carefully examined as well as research into a method of reuniting a fractured soul. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Potions, as well an E grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Personality: strong intellectual curiosity; has the determination and focus necessary to achieve long-term goals; has enough patience to deal with a child and enough toughness to deal with a street tough. History: Jane was born and raised in the Midlands of England, but she spent summers in the fjord country of Norway with her grandmother and there learned about Scandinavian folklore and magic. She finally travelled to the Continent to escape these efforts to marry her off and there she was accepted into the Potions Guild and was able to study with the innovative and notorious Potions Master, Gerda Durkheim, said to be part Dwarf. Jane refuses to confirm or deny the truth of this, but it is certain that Master Durkheim is unusually short and knows a great deal about many mysterious things.

After achieving her own Potions Mastery, Jane pursued a varied career in potions, alchemy, and higher education, but she left academia to serve as governess to the daughter of her closest school friend, Helena Keystone, who had sent Jane a letter begging her to take her daughter child under her wing. Helena had eloped with a Muggle from America and been disinherited by her family, but several years later her daughter, Violet, was sent home to London to be raised by her grandfather and three uncles. Although not particularly interested in the care and education of young children, Jane could not refuse her best friend's plea, and so she had spent the next eight years as a governess.

Violet had started at Hogwarts a couple of years ago, but after her first year, she entered into a forbidden correspondence with her Muggle father, who convinced her to go with him to America. Fortunately, Jane was able to track them down in New York, where the father was apparently engaged in some sort of confidence scheme, and bring Violet back to her family in London. Although Violet's escape was entirely the fault of her clueless uncles, her autocratic grandfather had dismissed Jane over the incident.

But Jane had known that her days as a governess were drawing to a close when her young charge started school at Hogwarts, and she is now eager to take up her career in potions and alchemy again. She regards her new position with the Dept. of Mysteries to be a dream job and is determined to give it her all.

The Greenwood family can be traced back centuries with a continuous Pureblood line (with a few exceptions) and the attitude to match. Elias descends from patriarch Emmanuel Greenwood through his second eldest son Ewan. Eli comes from a large brood with three siblings, elder brother Ezra and twins Emelia and Evander. His father Carlos is the only son of Ewan and his Brazilian wife Natalia, she herself from a notable pureblooded family and joined in marriage to Ewan initially based on a matter of business rather than for love although the feelings grew over time. Reputation is extremely important and many family members still harbour the prejudice opinions of their ancestors leading to a closed off community with little association with Muggles.

After the death of Great Grandfather Emmanuel in 2100, Elias’ Grandfather took over the family business ‘Antipodean Antiquities’ when his older brother Nathan refused. The business generally deals in rare and unique Wizarding antiquities, trinkets and dark objects and has a large portfolio of property investments across Europe. The manner in which these products are often acquired and sold aren’t necessarily always legal and the business has a large loyal clientele as they are often able to ‘acquire’ goods that are often impossible to source. It can be assumed however that the Greenwoods themselves never do the dirty work and therefore have been getting away with their illegal activities for decades without repercussions.

The ancient family estate can be found in rural Scotland where the family originally come from and hidden away from prying eyes, particularly those of muggles. Typically the estate is handed down to the eldest son in which case the next to receive it will be Elias’ father Carlos. The majority of the males in the family have attended Durmstrang Institute as their place of education as the opinion had been that the school was better suited to their boys and influential to their personalities.

As with any large family there are of course outliers. His Great Uncle Oliver Greenwood was a former Hogwarts Quidditch Captain, Head Boy and Falmouth Falcons star who gained notoriety for his sociability and friendliness with fans from all backgrounds. His Great Uncle Nathan has always had a fascination with Muggles resulting in him being a little distanced from his younger siblings. Great Uncle James, a relatively kind and soft man, was sadly infected by lycanthropy and died aged 29 in 2080.

On his mother’s side are the Orpington’s who although have a bloodline that can be traced back to the 1800’s, aren’t quite as engrossed in their social standings. His mother Eliza was educated at Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. Their family estate is located in Upper Flagley in Yorkshire and consists of several acres of gardens, farmland and a grand Manor House. Eliza is a former Primary School teacher who left her career upon the birth of her children to educate them from home.

Tradition usually dictates that the Greenwood children attend the much favoured Durmstrang Institute, a school which aligns with the principles of the family and focuses on aspects such as duelling. Eldest son Ezra first attended Durmstrang in 2110 but did not enjoy the strict and regimented routine the school provided and begged his parents to allow him to transfer over to Hogwarts for his second year. Consequently it has been decided that all the children should be educated together at Hogwarts, a matter in which Eli is not particular happy about.

Elias was born on a particularly stormy November day at his mother’s ancestral home in Upper Flagley in the county of Yorkshire, less than a year after his older brother Ezra. As his father is the eldest son of patriarch Ewan, the family live in a beautiful home in the grounds of the main estate.

Throughout his childhood Elias has been sheltered from the Muggle world and has rarely formed relationships with others outside of the family. His primary education was conducted at home by his mother and focused solely on magical theory, history and aiding his parents in brewing potions. With a family business whose clientele stretched worldwide, Elias has been able to visit magical communities throughout the world and has regularly visited Knockturn Alley with his Grandfather and subjected to encounters with unsavory witches and wizards.
