Default Gulping Gargoyles!

GULPING GARGOYLES!

A bit confused on the plot? Seen some mysterious happenings going on and curious as to what it's all about? What in the world is going on in the Ministry of Magic RPG? Here's where you can catch up on all the happenings around the Ministry of Magic. If you have something to add that relates to employees in general, mysterious happenings around the Ministry, and isn't a personal roleplay, please feel free to post about it in here. Double posting is okay in this space. There definitely is a place to post all about your personal roleplays, though! Those type discussions can go here, in the Wizarding World Chat.

For summaries of past Ministry terms, be sure to check out the Interdepartmental Flying Memos!

Remember that this thread is OOC knowledge only unless your character heard this information from others or witnessed the actual event, your character doesn't know about it.

What do I do if there's no activity or plotting in my department?
It's possible that there may not be a plot or organized roleplay happening in your department each and every day. What we're hoping is that you'll take the opportunity to create your own roleplays (within reason), whether they be work-related or something personal to your character. Nothing happening on your level? Then roleplay something happening! No drama or nothing to take part in? Create something! There's many different threads in your department and around the Ministry that you're free to explore and create roleplays in! You are also encouraged to contact your department head with ideas and concepts!

Whatever it was that had made the noise had moved on elsewhere and was no where to be seen in the corridor even with the Unspeakable's wand lit.

How curious.

But not all is for not as by the grace of Lumos a crimson red and wet trail, indicating that something had been dragged through here, revealed itself in a rather slapdash manner.

Curious indeed.

What is Ronan thinking?

Ronan took a deep breath before using a silent Diffindo on his palm and placing his now bleeding hand on the stone, hissing a little at the sting. Merlin, he hoped this worked.....

So why wouldn’t this building also have a secret means of concealment or escape that could be used at a moment’s notice?

This particular entrance was an unlit circular staircase that went down and down, stopping at a small corridor that diverged out. Soft chirping noises, guano on the floor, and the smells might remind a few employees of the year the Ministry had reverted to using owls instead of interdepartmental memos. One path to the left was flat for a meter or two and then started an upward climb. A path to the right curved and disappeared into darkness so black one might believe Lumos would not pierce it. The path most directly ahead? Well, it was marked with dark splotches as if something bloody had been carried or dragged through there.

To anyone brave enough to follow the gruesome path, at the end they would find a room that once was meant to function as a safe room, but now looked more like the lair of an animal. Bluebell flames trapped under a bell jar on a ledge high on the wall cast eerie shadows on the bed in the corner that looked more like a nest. The wooden table and chair in the middle of the room were littered with remnants of fur and feathers. Piles of bones lay in the corners, and from the looks of them, the bones had been there for a year or two.

“What… what are you doing?” His eyes darted from Ronan’s bleeding hand on the wall to the actual wall where there was another patch of fresh blood. Something clicked and Brody understood what the Auror was doing. “I think that should be enough.” Meaning that Ronan didn’t need to bleed out all over the wall.

And what was that dried bit of substance there? Dried blood? Mud? Whatever it was, would that wall be opening up to them?

Maybe not as well done as a healer, but at least it wasn't bleeding any more.

What? Pendragon wanted to use a sword against a vampire and he was the weird one?! "Actually, why don't you go inform Mr. Upstead up on Level Two that we may have found what or who has been behind the attacks on Ministry personnel? If anyone asks, tell 'em Ronan sent you." Really couldn't risk any more outbursts from the Unspeakable, not if they were dealing with who he thought they were. Hell, the vamp had sent fireballs in his direction just because!

As for the Auror? He was making his way through the now open door.

The thought sent a chill through him but darn him if he was going to look foolish before Ronan.

Er, what?

The Coordinator swung gaze to Damian, an eyebrow arched questioningly and a little judgmentally. He thought Damian was even more dramatic now.

“We can focus a little more if you stopped talking about swords.” And truthfully, did Damian really expect that they would hang around for him while he trotted off for a sword? Brody, holding really gripping his wand before him again, followed Ronan into the opening. Was he on edge? You bet.

"Now, how on earth would you know that?!" Unless someone had talked that shouldn't have. The official Ministry line, at least as far as he knew, was merely that Goldwasser had been part of the takeover and was now a missing and wanted man. No one outside of himself, the others that were in the tech lounge that night, and the Minister were supposed to know about the whole vampire thing, seeing as those he'd attacked since had no clue what had attacked them (not that he was entirely sure that's what had happened. Was just the most reasonable conclusion he could come to knowing what he knew). So, who had talked? He was absolutely sure that neither Matt nor Saul had said a word, knowing the need for discretion as part of their jobs as they did. He didn't know Conley and his husband as well, but surely they also knew the need for discretion. Which only left....."You really need to stop listening to that Jane. She's a big pot of trouble man...." And she would be in it if they survived this.

"Just keep your mouth shut and let me and Brody do the talking." Because Pendragon obviously couldn't handle it without making a fool of himself or getting others into trouble.

Not even think. Just the never-ending, intensely agonizing pain of the Unforgivable racking through his body.

Even when the spell ended, the Auror simply lay on the floor trying to catch his breath. A task that seemed impossible. On top of that, his throat felt scorched from all the screaming and small pockets of less intense pain were still racking his bones. So, yeah, he wouldn't be of much use to anyone for a while. Though he so desperately wanted to return the favor. Maybe even try out some of those tricks for ridding a place of a vampire that he'd read about a stake seemed most plausible at this point.

Once the tea was prepared, she set the two cups onto saucers on the coffee table and settled down to discuss the one item on her agenda. "We received news of certain disturbances in the Irish and Celtic Seas. We don't have much information yet, but our Oceanoizardry Division is closely monitoring the situation. I thought I should let you know since what's happening is not a common occurrence." It went without saying that this, as with any disruption in the Wizarding World, could develop into something very serious very quickly, hence the urgency with which she wanted to speak with the Minister for Magic. She summoned a thin file folder of relevant documents from her desk and passed it to the man seated opposite her.

The intention to take a sip was entirely thwarted when his department head revealed the nature of her requested meeting. Which was certainly not what he had been expecting at all, and he had come here with next to no expectations. "Disturbances?" he repeated, brow furrowed and leaning and returning the cup and saucer to the coffee table. "How concerned should we be?" His eyes slowly glanced back towards the map they had been standing in front of just minutes ago.

Her throat still felt as dry as the sahara desert, and that unpleasant screeching sound she heard on repeat inside her head now lead her to go into one of the toilet booths. That visit would have to wait, however.

Was that running water?

The Consulate paused to listen, doing his best to omit the sounds of the fluttering memos. Yes, that was running water indeed. But why…? And where…? The sound was followed until he came to the toilets. Had someone left a tap on? Thinking that might be the reason, Brody decided that he’d just dart in and turn the water off, whether it was the male or female bathroom.

Was it enough to say the peculiar sight that met his eyes stopped him short from his attention? “Sophie???” Brody’s eyebrows knitted together in alarm and bewilderment. “What are you doing??”

"I'm getting enough water to quench my acute thirst with Brody," As if drinking toilet water was as common as getting as drinking a glass of butterbeer and not super weird at all. "My throat feels as dry as the Sahara Desert." She continued to explain. Crouching down she scooped up toilet water into her hands which she took several large mouthfuls of before she asked bewildered. "Why are you in the ladies bathroom?" Or had she gone into the men's section?

The file he had been carrying was quickly on the edge of one of the bathroom sinks then moved towards Sophie, not bothering to hide his cringe as she actually drank toilet water.

“Never you mind why I’m here. Come on. Out of there, please’’ Brody’s tone was firm and stern. A hand reached out to take one of Sophie’s arms. “I’ll get you as many bottles of germ-free water that you want. An all you can drink buffet, if you will. I promise.”

A little embarrassed, but laughing too because it looked funny she blurbed out an apology to him. "I'm sorry Brody, my aim was off."

Normally sitting in a toilet and drinking toilet water wasn't something that Sophie would ever do. It was nuts but extreme thirst called for unorthodox methods. Hearing a beautiful melody she started to loudly sing along where she sat in the toilet. Brody's firm tone interrupted her singing and she pouted at him [b]"Why did you interrupt my singing? As she found her way to Level Four, Kendra grew more and more aware of how... dry she felt. Maybe she was just thirsty as her mouth and throat felt very dry, but it seemed more than that. Her skin felt dry too.

She had intended to go to the department head's office to drop off the conch shell, though probably any DERP employee would do, but she had such an overwhelming urge for water by the time she got to that floor that she headed for the nearest break room. And the Pets n Plants Café is where she happened to end up.

Kendra wasn't exactly a fan of cats, but she ignored them as she made her way inside the room. Absently, she set the conch shell down on one of the tables and headed straight for the sink. She turned on the faucet, letting the water run, as she reached for a glass from the cabinet. Once she filled the glass, Kendra eagerly guzzled it down, forgetting that the tap was still running. That really hit the spot.

She was just about to refill her glass again when she heard a voice behind her causing her to turn around. Kendra vaguely recognized her from when she was here before as the Transportation head, but considering this woman wasn't one of her employees from either department, she didn't really know her and assumed she worked on this floor.

"Hmm? Oh.. oh yes, I'm fine," she confirmed, giving the woman a reassuring smile. "I just needed a drink." She started humming along to the music in her head, though she wasn't aware that it was only in her head. Surely there was music piped into the café or maybe there was a radio somewhere. "Such a beautiful melody," she commented before turning to refill her glass.

"Oh, i see." She tilted her head in confusion at the next comment, figuring to ignore it when the woman proceeded to refill her glass again. "I ... don't hear anything." She pressed her lips together to try to strain to listen, frowning. Was she going deaf? Too many loud creatures cause her to lose her hearing?

But none of that was currently her concern anyway as she was focused mainly on the beautiful music she started humming along to, and the thirst that was creeping up on her again.

Kendra only stopped humming to drink her glass of water and she drank it quickly as if she hadn't had a drink in three days. Such delicious water! "No?" Kendra turned her attention back to Tia again. "It's so beautiful. Maybe turn up the radio, you really must hear it." Certainly there was a dial around her somewhere, or the other woman could use her wand to turn up the sound. But Merlin, it was so beautiful, everyone must hear it.

"I really should be going," she mentioned breezily as she started towards the door, humming the melody again. There was something she came down here to do, something very important... now what was it again?

It wasn't long before she felt her mouth go dry again, this time it seemed like she hadn't drank anything for days. Was her tongue sand paper or was she imagining the feeling. Grabbing her water once more she drank most of it quickly, but doing so it spilled down the front of her as well.

Head was down in the Chamber of Codes--that's where she had been heading when she was interrupted. She felt he needed to see Adam, that this odd behavior might be something more serious than just an illness.

"Come on, Adam--what do you say?" she said coaxingly, and held out a hand to him.

"I do nicht know..." he said wiggling his wand under the water. "Ze vater here..." It might not be drinkable, but there certainly was a lot which made him feel better. And then she said the word 'dry' and lost him. "Nein!" He started splashing again as he got to his feet. This time instead of using the water casting spell, he started kicking around the water until he was standing directly under the spray from the witch's wand.

At any rate, it was apparent that ordinary measures were not going to be enough to contain her colleague.

With a quick nod of her head, Jane suddenly whipped out her want and, pointing it at the fountain, cast the Drought Charm, then stood back watching all the water disappear. She kept her wand ready, in case Adam lost control at the loss of his fountain.

Then, without even an ounce of hesitation despite still very much still being in a suit, he hurtled himself in with a lopsided SPLASH.

The merguard were swift and efficient in executing their merchieftess' commands. Trident, grindylow, bubble and kelp ensnared and captured 12 air breathers while department heads end employees alike secured everyone else back to the submarines and to safety. The submarines would be overpacked and stuffy, but better inside them than left behind as water began to fill the dome. No attacks were made on the submarines as they departed, after all...the merpeople need humans to fulfil a command and promise.

As Atlantis fades into the distance of the depths, a somberness settles and one may wonder just how to remain afloat in these troubling times. The merchieftess had accused all of stealing...but stealing what?

Be careful, land dwellers. The fate of 12 are in your non-webbed hands...

OOC: this marks the end of the Underwater Gala. Besides the 12 who were taken, everyone else escaped safely back to land.
Keep your eyes open, there be news from the depths...

Without a word, she walked straight across the room, stepped down the steps into the large pool, and was currently floating on her back, her long hair spreading around her like seaweed, sadly singing a strange song:

"We live our lives beneath the sea,
A shoal, a school, a pod is we.
We ask just to be left alone,
Beings of water, the deep our home.

But the folk two-legged and bold,
Not content with what they hold,
Disrupt the peace in ocean deep
And seize Poseidon's gifts we keep.

Return to us what wealth you stole,
The staff and carapace you hold.
Your two-legged kin are safe, for now,
But not forever, this our vow."

She sang it over and over again...

About five paces out from the fountain proper, Airey's usual bright blue forget-me-not colored eyes almost seemed to cloud over and his steps slowed and almost glided. A smile crept across his crinkly lips (he really needed more water, stat) as he watched the water cascade forth from the statue. Opening his mouth, he began to sing...though the usual pleasant musical theater stylings were no where to be found. In fact, the screeching surely would have The Chimaeras rolling over in their metaphorical graves.

Save for J who...well...that truly was unfortunate.

"REEEEEEEEEEEE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE."

His strides continued forward and, without so much as taking off his shoes, began climbing into the fountain while continuing his ear bleeding serenade.

Oddly enough even though she drank a lot Sophie didn't need to excuse herself so often to visit the ladies room, at least not so much that it had raised Mr Phora's attention.

After wandering around she eventually came into the atrium where Mr Flamsteed stood in the fountain's waters serenading in ear bleeading screeching song to the fountain's figuriens. She wast sure what drove her forwards, but soon the DIMC ambassador kicked off her sandals and socks and joined Mr Flamsteed in the fountains water. A duett would be lovely wouldn't it? Raising her beautiful face to look at the witch figurine she started to sing the same screeching song to the heavens in perfect tune with Mr Flamsteed.

It seems Flamsteed is singing the same sing as his Unspeakable on a different floor...

About time as well, had he carried on as such it was likely to have an effect the rivaled fwoopers.

"We live our lives beneath the sea... A shoal, a school, a pod is we..." he sung while his arms rose by his sides and gently bobbed up and down as though he were entirely submerged in water. "We ask just to be left alone... Beings of water, the deep our home...But the folk two-legged and bold...Not content with what they hold...Disrupt the peace in ocean deep...And seize Poseidon's gifts we keep..." The blonde Gryffindor alum's eyes seemed to both look into the very soul of the latest arrival to the fountain, while also looked right through him. Not just through him, but beyond the Ministry itself and to some far and distant land. "Return to us what wealth you stole...The staff and carapace you hold...Your two-legged kin are safe, for now...But not forever, this our vow."

By this point, and just before he dove right into an encore performance, the suited astronomer had positioned himself just beneath one of the cascading trails of water and was soaked to the bone. Ironically, the man felt more alive and more invigorated in this stance...which only meant that his singing grew louder and more ethereally impassioned.

"...Return to us what wealth you stole...The staff and carapace you hold...Your two-legged kin are safe, for now...But not forever, this our vow."

And just in case one had not heard it the first two times...he began a third rendition with no signs of stopping after its completion.

And now a conch shell is screeching down in the Department of Mysteries? How odd

Once the Unspeakable did, they would find themselves looking down at a beautiful conch shell, the glow coming from the aperture as well as the screeching sound.

One certainly would not be hearing the sound of the ocean under these conditions, perhaps there is something that could be done...

Default 2108 in conclusion

RISING FROM THE DEPTHS
.................................................mernapped no more

Amid the chaos of their temporary holding chambers in the Department of Mysteries' Chamber of Codes as well as the mayhem involving several Ministry employees taking a literal swim in various locations about the Ministry and the patient individuals who dealt with them, the Atlantian artifacts were recovered and returned to Atlantis. Upon receiving the conch shell and trident, intense negotiations ensued between the rescue team headed by the Minister for Magic and representatives from the Department of Ecological Regulation and Protection. All those mernapped, were safely returned to the surface and without harm as of late November and with the merpeople's lives changed forever thanks to the influence of their temporary residents. While animosities surely remain between merpeople and wizardingkind, the civil war that once threatened the mermish tribes has dissipated and the seas and oceans safe once again. As an act of goodwill and with the fervent hope that bonds be mended and strengthened, the Merchieftess of Atlantis has decreed its doors remain open to wizarding visitors and other tribes around the oceans and seas surrounding the United Kingdom have followed suit.

I think not, so you best report it, and choose another way to get home because flooing is not an option.

Seems like the shortage isn't just here in England.... DIMC has recieved news from at least 2 other ambassadors that their countries are short on floo powder as well.

Not to mention stressful for some, including me because Gabe was among the mernapped.” It was the first time that he spoke about this aside from anyone in either his or Gabe’s family.

The Consulate took the letter, which mercifully, was accompanied with an English translation. That was one of the things he wanted to talk to Sophie about - to teach him Scandinavian and other languages of the Nordic Region. It would have to wait however, for a frown was developing on his face. “It’s a report about Floo Powder shortage.’’ So yes, it was really urgent. Brody turned his attention to his boss. “Sachin just reported the same thing about India,’’ he remarked, an eyebrow arching. “He - nor this letter - gives a reason why but the respective Ministries must have started their investigations already.” This was just yet another issue to add to all the concerns for various situations the department had to deal with, should other Ambassadors begin reporting the same thing.

Not wanting to abandon Sophie, Brody placed his coffee cup on her desk and began digging through all the paperwork for the memos.

So who took Josephina Flint, the anti-Muggle, anti-telegraph Minister from the 1820s??? someone with an invisibility cloak, perhaps??

I'm back with more updates (?!)

This is from the place where one portrait was kidnapped:

"Even so, full of dramatics, that woman," Ottaline Gambol retorted. "Huffing and puffing about every little thing is her specialty."

"And your specialty is being an annoyance," Radolphus Lestrange sneered.

More bickering continued amongst the portraits, with Gambol and Lestrange exchanging intense words while the others tried to defuse the tension or simply walked out of their frames to spare themselves.

As for the space where Josephina Flint's frame once was, there was nothing to see besides the wallpaper and the nail from which the frame had been hanging.
And... did the thief wear an invisibility cloak and ride the lift here!? Are they going to paint a mustache on the poor former Minister?!
