A bit confused on the plot? Seen some mysterious happenings going on and curious as to what it's all about? What in the world is going on in the Ministry of Magic RPG? Here's where you can catch up on all the happenings around the Ministry of Magic. If you have something to add that relates to employees in general, mysterious happenings around the Ministry, and isn't a personal roleplay, please feel free to post about it in here. Double posting is okay in this space. There definitely is a place to post all about your personal roleplays, though! Those type discussions can go here, in the Wizarding World Chat.
Remember that this thread is OOC knowledge only unless your character heard this information from others or witnessed the actual event, your character doesn't know about it.
What do I do if there's no activity or plotting in my department?
It's possible that there may not be a plot or organized roleplay happening in your department each and every day. What we're hoping is that you'll take the opportunity to create your own roleplays (within reason), whether they be work-related or something personal to your character. Nothing happening on your level? Then roleplay something happening! No drama or nothing to take part in? Create something! There's many different threads in your department and around the Ministry that you're free to explore and create roleplays in! You are also encouraged to contact your department head with ideas and concepts!

He was just about to walk out of the room when he paused and looked up. A box hidden in the shadowy corner of the top shelf caught his attention. He pulled out his cypress wand and pointed it at the box. "Accio box." It floated down from the top and he plucked it out of the air. As his long pale fingers closed around the dusty cardboard he could tell this was it, what he had spent the better part of a year trying to find. He let himself smile, long teeth on full display as he ripped open the cardboard.
A sense of pride and fulfillment, flooded him as he pulled a fluid-like silky, silvery material out of the box. He shook it out as the box fell to the floor. A quick inspection showed no rips, not tears, no worn spots. It wasn’t faded, even though it looked ancient.
He'd found it! In his hands he held the The Cloak of Invisibility. The third and final Deathly Hallows.

Now...no one would be telling him what to do. He held the power and it was right here in his hand. He could practically hear its heart beating against his palm as is sync with his own, drumming wildly as his eyes became even more menacing as he stepped closer to her despite her retracted steps.
"We don't need him, Alphonsine! I can do what Lucien has done. I can lead. I can finish the mission! The Neo-Alliance would be nothing without my contributions" He who had done all the brewing and ensured the supplies were constantly flowing, cutting deals on the Black Market and leaving no trail for Law Enforcement to follow. His hands were already dirty, blood stained, and if he could accomplish all this without the Elder Wand then there was no stopping him now that it was in his possession. "I did it all for you, Alphonsine! It has always been all for you!" His steps were aggressive now, closing the distance between them even more as his face continued to morph and disfigure between two separate identities.
But his step faltered when she demanded the wand and his lips twitched into a small snarl. "The wand is mine." And for emphasis he even raised it, pointing it at her...his love. The woman he would do anything for. "Join me...Alphonsine..."
His thoughts darkened further and they briefly glanced from her to the wand. He could do it...he could make her join his side and then she would see. Then she would understand...
His eyes moved back to her with a renewed sense of purpose and torment.
"...Alphonsine..."

"We do need him! Lucien is holding us all together!" There was no mistaking the emotion in her voice now. And though she would agree that Sebastijan's contributions were essential, she wouldn't dream of betraying her brother. He was the leader they needed.
"Don't do this, Sebastijan." Alphonsine held his gaze, even as he advanced and pointed his wand at her. The change in his expression and in his voice was frightening, still she believed that he'd never harm her. But even in her heightened emotional state, she knew what she had to do. The hardest part of this mission yet.
And when he took his eyes off her for just a moment, she stealthily reached for her wand. It was a small, graceful motion, one that she hoped he hadn't seen. "I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice hitching in her throat. "It's for the greater good."
And with one swift motion, Alphonsine pointed her wand and a green flash shot out at him as she cried, "Avada Kedavra!"

He was so desperate, so caught up in his own agenda, that he failed to noticed the changes in her features. The way her breaking heart was reflected in her beautiful brown eyes. Instead he was taking a stride closer and his lips pursing in anticipation of casting his own spell.
But then...a flash of green light, blinding and horrifying, and then ... nothing.
His eyes widened and there was the betrayal of a small boy plastered across his face, innocent and completely in shock...and in the blink of an eye gone. His body crumbled to the ground unmoving and on his back, his face a gruesome twist between Airey Flamsteed and a bearded man.
A single tear fighting for the chance to trickle down his cheek.

....heartbreak was an understatement though.
As soon as the words of the killing curse left her lips, Alphonsine saw the glimpse of the little boy she once knew, the shock and betrayal on his face, causing her to choke back a sob. "I'm so sorry," she whispered once again, tears falling from her eyes in sync with her wand falling from her hand and the man in front of her falling to the floor.
She dropped to her knees and covered her face with her hands as she sobbed into them. It had been so much easier the last time this needed to be done here in the courtrooms. But Jack Roller had been of little consequence to her. He was just a pawn in their mission and he'd served his purpose until they didn't need him anymore. But it was different, harder, this time.
Still, it had been necessary. Alphonsine took a moment to compose herself, wiping the stray tears from her eyes before looking upon the face of the fallen man. It was twisted now, but she could still recognize the face of the man she knew. Gently, she laid her hand at the side of his face and leaned down to softly kiss his forehead. "Thank you for your service."
But her eyes soon fell to the wand still in his hands. Alphonsine paused only a beat before uncurling his fingers and retrieving the wand for herself. For herself. It was hers now, wasn't it? She won its allegiance. Alphonsine looked at the wand a long moment, her own fingers travelling along the length of it as she admired its beauty and the power within. Gripping the wand tightly, she looked back at the fallen Sebastijan again and then the door and then the dead man.
She could not leave him like this. She wouldn't. But there was something else she needed to do first. She plucked something from the man's pocket, an ornate mirror, and smiled her mysterious, yet devious smile into it, looking upon the image of a man where there should be a reflection. "Don't worry, Airey. We still have use for you yet."
Then, using the elder wand in her hand, she transfigured the man lying dead on the ground into a rat, a dead one of course, but a rat none the less. Alphonsine marveled at the power that flowed through the wand as she'd used it for that convenient little piece of magic. No wonder Sebastijan had coveted it. But she quickly picked up the minimized body and placed him into her bag for safekeeping, along with the mirror, before unsecuring the wards from the doors and slipping out. She had a few loose ends to tie up now, but she needed to tell Lucien!

Fletcher was torn between feeling pride for the speed with which Kodee got the door and amusement at how, exactly, he did so. He stifled a huge grin and beckoned for Kodee to open the door. "We'll finish talking about this later... yeah, let Goldwasser in."

Trying to hide his disappointment, Kodee turned and yanked the door open again.
"He's in, you can enter."
Even in the MIDST of his ABSOLUTE let down. Kodee Chosen was still a good almost soon to be PA again.

He pulled his fist out of his pocket and was about to bang on the door again when it reopened. "Oh, can I?!" He let the pieces of red candy fall to the ground as he opened his fist and walked into the office past the man as if he wasn't important. Because he wasn't.
"Fletcher," he barked."We need to talk." He stormed towards the man's desk where he dropped a personnel file baring Fletcher's name on the man's desk.. The file was peppered with yellow and blue post-it sticky notes. A few bits of the crushed sucker stuck to the file.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Fletcher sat up in his chair, his brow furrowing as HIS personnel file landed on the desk.
"How'd you get this?" he demanded in return. "That's MY file, from MY floor." Fletcher glanced from trying to read the post-its upside down toward Bain's angry face. "What are you doing with it?"

From what he had found, he didn't think anyone had actually conducted a background check before half the department heads were hired.
He was still scowling as he spun the file around and flipped it open. "There seem to be a few discrepancies between your application and your background check." He paused at this point although he had absolutely no qualms about discussing matters in front of Fletcher's underlings. It was, after all, not his reputation that was in question.

Curiosity killed the cat, though, and Fletcher couldn't resist leaning forward to glance at what page Goldwasser had dug up. He was silent for a moment, and then spoke with a slightly more whiny hesitant tone. "Personnel files belong on Level One," he insisted again, clearing his throat as he read the note on this particular page. "And anyway, that was an isolated incident. I'm THE Triwizard Tournament champion. A former cursebreaker for Gringotts. An independent business owner in Diagon Alley." He was bristling now.
"Clearly I have good conduct and character. Good enough for Charles to trust me." Why was he defending himself to this prat? Fletcher flipped the file closed with a glare.

Or should we talk about the names listed on your birth certificate?" Fletcher sincerely looked worried and it had been a long time since he'd been allowed to bring about the reaction in someone.

Those days of finding his birth parents were long gone and dusted, just a small footnote in his autobiography. "I have nothing to do with that. Obviously. I only know what my so-called father told me." He crossed his legs in a defensive posture, the foot on the ground jiggling slightly with uncertainty.
He was certain Goldwasser did not have enough to bring to Charles's attention. And Charles wouldn't care. They were close! Friends, even! He had officiated Fletcher's wedding, for Merlin's sake! Fletcher let a long pause follow before he added, "What is your point, Goldwasser?"

Did you ever have the sensation of feeling trapped in your own body? It was curious just how much Airey Flamsteed could relate to the sensation these days. Looking in the mirror and seeing his hollowed features and more slender features did that. Though, everything did that these days. Even the simple task of walking from Level 9 all the way down to the floo network to confirm with Simone did that. It was a task, a performance, he wanted no part in...but he truly had no choice in the matter. There was no brightness to his eyes but an unspoken torture to their emptiness.
"Simone," he greeted cordially. "The results are back. Cross examined with all the previous ones. No irregularities have been found." His movements were a bit robotic, something which would go unnoticed by the Unspeakable who barely received any kind of acknowledgement, and at one point it even looked like one of his fingers had twitched in an unnatural direction. "He will be pleased with this news...and what of the lifts?"

Before continuing she cast muffliato around their table, not willing to take chances.
"That man is not my husband." A pause. She rolled her wand on the table beneath her fingertips. "I am not speaking in metaphors, I mean literally. Something is very wrong, and I don't know where Kai is or what happened to him, but whoever is the headmaster at Hogwarts is not him and hasn't been for a long time." This past year in particular had been a nightmare, Talia wondering if she was crazy, and then connecting the dots together, and knowing that most people would never believe her. Then at the forefront, concern for her children, and of course all the other children at that school.
Making it obvious that she knew to whoever this imposter was seemed like a bad choice, something that might put her at risk too, but especially put Kai at risk of he was..... still alive at all. Tally took a deep breath. He surely was, as a source for the constant polyjuicing that was happening, Kai had to be alive, didn't he?
"Whatever is going on, it has to be connected with that Azkaban break out, and those kidnappings. Perhaps there were even more kidnappings that happened at that same time that were never discovered. That graffiti that the new outlets reported on. Maybe the floo network being a mess is related too. I expect there are other things that the ministry is keeping quiet that I don't know about. I don't know, Charles, but it's big, whatever this is. And you're probably in danger yourself." At least he seemed to be himself still, it was a stark contrast to how Kai was.

Though creating such an elaborate conspiracy theory, one that she was implying was all happening right under his nose and him utterly blind to all of it... it was upsetting. Particularly when she insulted the integrity of his Ministry.
"Your husband and I have been in constant contact, Talia," he assured her. "As we always have." Though Alphonsine did handle a lot of the communications these days to free Charles up for more important matters, he did still get opportunity to consult the man on more serious topics. "Nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing that would tie him to Azkaban. That is a cold trail, my dear. My regret is that Roller was assassinated right there in my Ministry." Guilty as the man may be, he did not deserve such a demise. "I have also been assured by my new head of Magical Transportation that a solution is coming with the floo networks and an estimate to have them all up and running well before the New Year." He regretted greatly letting Kendra go, though Simone had delivered on every task...just as Alphonsine had assured him she would.
He reached over and lay one of his weary hands atop her own and affectionately brushed his thumb over the back of her hand as a father might do while lulling a child to sleep, the twinkle in his eyes sincere as he spoke and fully believed everything he said. "I am in no danger. Everything is fine. All things are as they should be, for the greater good."
Citizens of the wizarding United Kingdom, good evening. This is your Minister, Charles Hollingberry, speaking on behalf of this special installment of the Wizarding Wireless Network News.
Today I am pleased to report that thanks to the efforts of Magical Transportation department head Simone Krafft and Magical Accidents and Catastrophes department head Sian Llewellyn and their respective teams the previous hindrances plaguing the functionality of your Ministry have finally been put to rest. All floo networks in and out are fully operational, as are the lifts within the Ministry. We are also in the process of returning all owls to the Owl Post as their services within the Ministry are no longer required with the Interdepartmental memos now functioning as they should. With all of the escaped Azkaban prisoners accounted for, Bain Goldwasser the head of Magical Law Enforcement has turned his attentions to ensuring that all Ministry employees are reliable, trustworthy, of good conduct and character, and loyal to the Ministry. We at your Ministry of Magic look forward to being even more productive in the coming year of 2104 now that the purity of our institutions has been solidified.
In other prosperous developments, Hogwarts Headmaster Malachi Trent along with the Hogwarts Board of Governors have begun the implementation of a new, rigorous and refined curriculum at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It will usher in a new era for all wizardingkind. Save for the Minister’s Office, all communications to and from Hogwarts have been temporarily suspended to permit students to focus their efforts on their studies.
As a grandfather with my own granddaughter at Hogwarts, a thriving sixth year if I may mention, I understand how upsetting and frustrating this situation must be for all the families and loved ones. We, Headmaster Trent and myself, implore you to understand that this period of isolation is all for the greater good and any inconvenience caused will be repaid a hundredfold in the benefits for our wizarding youth and the greater wizarding population. Rest assured that your children are in capable hands that wish nothing more than for the prosperity of our wizarding youth.
To close out this broadcast, please indulge me as always while I recount a bit of historic trivia regarding the office of Minister for Magic. This evening we will be taking a peek at Millicent Bagnold who served the office of Minister from 1980 - 1990. A pureblood witch renowned for being a very capable leader. Her tenure is most remembered for taking place during the end of the first wizarding war. Bagnold had to answer to the International Confederation of Wizards for the number of breaches of the International Statute of Secrecy on the day and night following Harry Potter’s survival of Lord Voldemort’s attack. Her extravagant displays of breathtaking magic were reported as mere meteor showers by muggle news papers. She acquitted herself magnificently with the now infamous words: ‘I assert our inalienable right to party.’ Which is really rather delightful if I do say so myself.
This has been your Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry. Good evening and goodnight!

Only his wife was a pureblood, anyway. Is that why Bain was interested in bloodlines so much? The lightbulb in his mind grew in brightness, until it was close to bursting. He stood up from his desk and paced behind it, certain he was thisclose to saying something stupid. He didn't like this. He didn't like not being in control in his own office.
"Are we done here?" Fletcher's wand hand was itching to throw open the door and toss Bain out.

With his own set of documents in hand, mostly the standard review of the day features he and his Senior Undersecretary went over on the norm, Charles descended from his more private quarters and emerged from one of the many secret entries. He had a cup of tea in hand, as always, though it lacked a certain finesse that came from the ones Alphonsine so affectionately made for him. It just was not the same.
"Fletcher, my boy," he smiled as he emerged, his steps still a little sluggish but with more of a twinkle to his eye at the moment. "Have you helped yourself to any of the yogurt covered raisins yet?"

And, for the record, no, he still had not tried them. Fletcher was just fine and regular without the aid of raisins OR prunes, for anyone wondering. He didn't even LIKE raisins but had never said so out of respect for Charles.
He waited a moment to see if Charles would select a seat, casually asking, "How are you doing today?" Just had to gauge the temperature (and temperament) of the room. He did recall, after all, a bit of heat from the Minister not so long ago when he met with a different department head... and then proceeded to fire her. Fletcher had no wish to be next.

More for me then," he chuckled a bit as he poured the contents out into his palm and popped one into his mouth.
"I'm quite well," he nodded to his Senior Undersecretary, even if he may not particularly look it. More and more these days he was looking his age. "Lamenting missing tea time with Alphonsine today. I do enjoy our chats. You have quite the lovely assistant there Fletcher. We were right in promoting her."

Fletcher didn't have as many excuses to go stretch his legs as he would have liked, what with everything functioning and all. He did, however, have a small problem even his personal assistant couldn't fix.
He nodded, genuinely happy Charles was well. But.
"Speaking of," he segued into his first line of questioning query for Charles, "Where has Alphonsine been? Did you grant her a leave of absence?" He was frowning, obviously, as he said this. He didn't disagree about promoting her; she was, ah, a sight for sore eyes around here. But she had definitely taken more to Charles than to Fletcher, and the Senior Undersecretary had never been able to figure out why.....
Could Charles spill the tea, please?

And with that, Charles leaned forward a bit with his none raisin hand to lay one of his more frail than usual hands upon the Senior Undersecretary's shoulder. "I'll pick you up something from her bowl the next time I am making my rounds," he added with a bit of a wink.
Despite it all, Charles did still try to visit each level whenever he could.
Fingers coiling around the [s]old[/] young man's shoulders for an affectionate sort of squeeze, the Minister leaned back in his seat and returned to his yogurt covered raisins. "A family emergency," he lamented. "Seemed in such a terrible rush and beyond keen to depart as quickly as possible..." He trailed off, as though thinking some incredibly deep thought. A thought, or thoughts, that seemed to take him out of the office for a couple of seconds before he was pulled back in and his eyes refocused - though the twinkle had faded somewhat. "She will be back as soon as the situation is handled."

"You know you don't have to do that; Jessa keeps me on a short leash around sugar....." and other temptations, to be sure.
Fletcher tried to keep things light, he really did, but Charles was definitely off from his usual boisterous banter. Look at him, staring off into space there. Where had his mind gone for that whole minute??? He nodded only once at the answer about Alphonsine, hardly buying it, and decided to continue their meeting. "Speaking of her, though, did she help you write this before she took off?"
Again, his tone was nothing but warm and maybe a little curious as he produced the radio transcript, passing it to Charles, casual as could be. "I'm just a little hurt, sir, that you didn't give me a heads-up about these changes at Hogwarts...." You know, since THE MINISTER'S OFFICE included an entire division about wizarding education.

Though, speaking of, I do hope the pair of you will be over again for the holidays. I'll be inviting Kaiser as well and me gran---" He trailed off a moment, recalling somberly the truth that little Becky would not be home for the holidays. His own daughter, sons, and son-in-law had been incessant about these changes and he was uncertain if they would be in attendance this year. " ---son will be back in town as well. Though he has yet to RSVP." His weary eyes glanced over at the exploded remains of red parchment that had once been a howler.
Eiji had...taken to rather spirited means of getting his point across. Many had, in fact, and he was struggling to help them understand the greater good of the situation.
The Minister's attention grabbed once more, his eyes refocused on the paper before him and he patted his pockets for his reading black rimmed spectacles. He paused again for another moment while looking it over and nodded his head in agreement...and yet... "No," he responded with a faint smile. "I took care of this matter by myself. I particularly enjoy the history dive. I'm debating between Eugenia Jenkins and Nobby Leach for the next broadcast, though I find myself favoring Leach." He paused to stroke his chin, his scruff becoming a bit untamed as of late. Perhaps he should just give in and grow a proper beard. His gaze lifted again, his eyes warm and apologetic, though with a thick layer of confusion clouding them. "But I had. During one of our meetings prior to the broadcast. We were sitting right here, in fact." Perhaps he had been overworking Fletcher to have his Senior Undersecretary forget such an urgent summons.

He was sure he'd met them all at one point or another, and had heard more than enough stories, to boot.
But anyway, the holidays were something to look forward to. This conversation was not.
Did Charles not know by now that history was not Fletcher's best subject? Transfiguration was. That was what he was looking for. Hang on, no it wasn't. Now Fletcher was the one getting distracted and confused by the Minister's babbling.
"Er, no I wasn't, sir." He shook his head politely but quite firmly, his chesnut hair gleaming with each shake. "I promise you that it was brand-new information. I didn't even know you were doing a broadcast until I heard it at home." Both he and his wife had been taken by surprise, and then relieved that Dunk wasn't school age yet.
He had to make certain the Minister understood, so he added, "We've gotten a lot of letters about your broadcast, Charles." This was very serious. No Glitterpuff gigglypuff chuckles or anything. "I had no idea this was coming down the pipeline." To borrow a Muggle expression, and then another: It was like his office had been caught with their pants on the ground.

"I will be delighted to have you in attendance."
He supposed he would have to mull over his next choice on his own then, which was no bother to him and one of the easier choices he faced in the coming days. With new legislation and law proposals to look over, the Minister had a lot on his plate and it was not looking like much of a vacation in his future. All for the greater good, he had to remind himself.
But what Fletcher said next truly had the man befuddled and his fatigued fingers rubbed his brow as though coaxing the memory to come to the surface. No, he was certain they had had this conversation. Right here. He could see it all so clearly in his head but he also knew that Fletcher was a man of many things but not one who would lie to his Minister. To Charles. The distress showed on his face as well and he his neck sunk into his shoulders a bit as he leaned back into a sloppy position on his couch. "It is not kind to tease an old man, Fletcher," he chuckled warily and busied his mouth with the remaining raisins in his hand all at once.
Though he had hardly begun to chew as another heavy sigh left his lips and he nodded. "Howlers as well, which hardly give me time to offer a reply as they destroy themselves upon delivery. Terribly impossible to have a conversation when it is one sided." He straightened his posture a bit as a wave of resolve washed over him and he reached up to tighten his tie somewhat. "I wish I could assist them in seeing what it is we...I see," he paused a moment, turning his head curiously at the slip of pronouns there. Peculiar. "They will simply need time. It is an adjustment everyone will come to accept with time. They'll understand as I do that it is all for the greater good." He paused and leaned forward once more, a hand planted firmly on Fletcher's shoulder that felt less paternal and more desperate. Perhaps even pleading. "For the greater good, Fletcher."

He... he wasn't teasing, he really wasn't. Fletcher thought all this was too serious for jokes. For once, he was probably looking like he was closer to 50 than 30 (which was true, but which he would always deny), what with all of Charles' old-fashioned lamps (such poor lighting) and the worry lines all around his eyes (again, in denial about those).
Fletcher watched the raisins disappear into Charles's mouth, his worry deepening as the man spoke, and... and there it was again, that damned phrase. For the greater good. Fletcher was obviously frowning and thinking over what Charles had said, so the hand on his shoulder, the desperate hand, almost made him jump.
He looked up at the Minister, feeling an urgent desire to flee for some reason, and then that desire giving way to another idea. "I... I understand," he replied carefully, gathering his thoughts and his things now. "It's a shame our meeting is ending now," he added, standing up with his papers under his arm, edging for the door. "I know the greater good is such a valuable mission." Sure, sure it was. Out of all the people in this office, Fletcher perhaps knew best when to lie and when not to.
Now was one of the former times.

It felt as though the meeting had only just begun, but Charles has been feeling as though time were slipping away from him more and more these days. Perhaps his age was finally starting to show.
"The most valuable," he pressed while watching at the other man began moving towards the door. His expression vacant for a few counts as remained seated, he soon was leaning over and pinching the bridge of his nose as though nursing a headache. It was only for a few moments, however, and soon the man was on his feet as well and moving towards Fletcher with some urgency. Enough so that he beat Fletcher to the door and took a hold of the handle first before shifting his weight so he could turn and look to the Senior Undersecretary. "...I am trusting you to do the right thing, Fletcher," he said firmly before pulling the door open slowly, though as he turned to look to the brunette his expression was almost vibrant and glossy, as though someone had struck him with a Cheering Charm. "I need you on my side, my boy."

He caught himself, though, before he properly tripped, making it look like he'd just needed to check something in the papers in his hand first. Really, he was reading the brightness on Charles's face. A strange look, to be sure, which also tugged gently at his heart for a moment.
"I am on your side, Charles," he replied honestly, vehemently, with certain words accented for certain reasons there. A loaded answer, but an honest one, definitely. He paused as though thinking of something else to add so that the Minister would be properly placated and move away from the door, his mind landing on a recent phrase Charles himself had just said. "I'm off to do the right thing for the greater good, sir."
Of course, it meant something different when he said it, but same application, it sounded fine, all that. Yada yada. Fletcher waited patiently for Charles to move, all with a calm expression.

"I'll be sending you details for the holidays soon as well."
And with that, Charles stepped aside and held the door open for Fletcher to leave and tend to the important matters. "Be seeing you, my boy" he chortled weakly while giving his Senior Undersecretary a couple of pat pats between the shoulders. And with that meeting adjourned, he had some more paperwork to tend to, specifically regarding some renovations to the Ministry in the coming year, and another broadcast to put together.

The Ministry is being renovated, the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery is being reversed in the new year, and the Improper Use of Magic Office will have a new purpose...
Citizens of the wizarding United Kingdom, good evening. This is your Minister, Charles Hollingberry, speaking on behalf of this holiday installment of the Wizarding Wireless Network News. We at the Ministry understand that the season this year may feel more melancholy in light of the necessary changes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I would once again like to extend a benevolent hand of gratitude to all of you for your patience and continued understanding during these times as we endeavour to continue our work for the greater good of all wizardingkind.
In the coming weeks, the Ministry itself will be experiencing renovations and a redesign to bring it in line with the times. All these exciting refurbishments will be revealed at our annual beginning of the year gala to be hosted in the Atrium. So I do ask all personnel listening in this evening to be mindful of where they step and to do their best to not get in the way of the design teams as they move about. They should not interfere with the continued work you put into our great nation.
As a holiday gift to the present and future of our sovereign state, we at the Ministry are pleased to inform the public the reversal of the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery will be taking place precisely at the moment the Great Bell strikes midnight on the first of January 2104. Changes to newly invigorate the Improper Use of Magic Office and turn its purpose on its head will likewise be rolled out under the leadership of Magical Law Enforcement department head, Bain Goldwasser.
A new era of freedom is upon us and you are free to stay turned to the Wizarding Wireless Network for its 4 hour long block featuring a festive medley of holidays tunes! I suggest listening over a warm piping mug of apple cider like I myself will be doing. Good evening, goodnight, and happy holidays!

“Pardon the interruption, friends and colleagues! If you all could please ensure you have a bit of bubbly in hand...yes? Excellent!” Charles’ jovial voice boomed across the Atrium, his eyes twinkling and a pleasant grandfatherly sort of smile in place. His fingers coiled over the lion head atop his cane and wiggled it a bit into a more comfortable position as he looked over the crowd. His shoulders rolled and his chessed puffed out, but as his gazed shifted among the crowd ...the twinkle in his eyes faded. “I would just like to take a moment to welcome, WELCOME, one and all to what is sure to be another PROSPEROUS year at the Ministry of Magic! The improvements to the Atrium which currently surround you all - such delightful feasts for the eyes, are they not? - now are only the beginning as we step out of the shadows and into the light as a wizarding nation. Let us lift our glasses and offer a toast to the future of our wizarding world, to the freedom to be ourselves, and our contributions to the Neo Alliance with which we stand. May this new era shine eternal like the Gubraithian Fire above us! To the greater good!”
And with that, Charles lifted his glass just a bit higher to toast both to the crowd and once more to the Dark wizard who has appeared on the tapestries once again. His hand shook and there was some strain to his moments as he next lifted the glass to his lips and took a deep sip.

Dr. Nykto would get what was coming to him soon enough.
There seemed to be a small insurrection going on in his department. How interesting. He would have to deal with that directly. Perhaps it would be Zabini’s first task as head of the Genealogical Investigations Team. At least Ferguson seemed to be doing his job by handling Primeaux. Perhaps the man would be useful after all.
And while he might have appreciated Carter’s assistance under different circumstances, this was not one. No, especially when someone had clearly undermined him by lifting the spells he had cast. The rabble needed to be shown that defiance would not be tolerated. Mutineers would be punished. It was for the Greater Good that people fell in line.
So before anyone else could try to play the hero (and before the good Doctor could make anymore comments), Bain reached into his pocket and produced a handful of Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder. Which he tossed into the air.

That was good. Their divisions would be most impacted. And the others were filling in, nearly everyone she was expecting. No Milo, but then...well, he’d been reported missing a few weeks ago now. Javier was at least providing some representation from the Gobstones division.
But, it was time now, wasn’t it. Peggy stood, gripping her coffee cup for moral support.
"Thanks, all, for coming," she said, noting that Lucas had taken cinnamon rolls but not many others. “As you all know, there have been some changes to the Ministry…” She paused, trying to prevent an annoyed sigh and managing to dampen it to...an angry huff. "Our department is not immune to these changes, so...let’s just get down to some of the new policies. Help yourself to a cinnamon roll, if you didn’t get one on the way in." She did not expect any of these folks to be thrilled with what she was about to tell them, so she really did intend to...sugarcoat this. It worked with her children.
"First of all…some changes for our Recreational Sports division," she was going in order of...her personal relevance. She had a special place in her heart for the recreational sports leagues and competitions. "With the situation at Hogwarts, we’ll have to cancel the U17 Quidditch league for this summer. There won't be a chance to hold tryouts at the usual time, since the students are...ah, cloistered." She looked to her recreational sport division and the professional Quidditch employees as she said this. She had been worried about the talented Quidditch youngsters taking their talents elsewhere, but her former colleagues in France had alluded to issues there as well. "The non-tryout leagues and camps will have to suffice for the children's entertainment this summer, and for the Quidditch scouts."
"There will also be some restrictions in place for recreational sports sign ups, leagues and camps." Peggy allowed herself a sigh this time. "Sign ups will be limited to those with magical parents." She tried not to think too much about the Muggleborn children who would be missing out on the summer wizarding sports leagues and camps. "Our volunteer coaches for the youth leagues will be under extra scrutiny, as well." She was relieved, for this one reason, to be pureblood, so she could continue being a U14 Quidditch coach.
"Any questions before we move on?" She paused to take a sip of coffee. Hopefully they could avoid too much of an uproar, at least nothing that could be heard from other levels. She was not a coward, she reassured herself. Allowing these changes that didn't directly hurt anyone would surely help her stay around to improve things in the long run.

And speaking of the greater good, Alphonsine had some things to discuss with the Minister - details to further their vision and ensure everything was running smoothly. What better time to do that than at one of their regularly scheduled tea times? She knew Charles would be expecting her as she approached the waiting room of his office.

Holding himself up by his cane, the Minister stepped into the gaudy scarlet waiting area and smiled warmly at her. "Hello, my dear," he greeted and balanced himself well enough for a tender sort of one-armed hug around her shoulders. "I was just looking over the notes for my next broadcast...and I have some concerns." His brow furrowed and he gestured towards the plush couch for her to sit.

In fact, Charles could think of no one who would ever sign off on any of these.
He felt tired, joints creaky, and he rubbed his temples to nurse what felt like an incoming migraine.

Did he look less sallow than he had in the atrium or was it just a trick of the light in the room? His mood certainly was more chipper and his step had an air to it as if he felt stronger. It had been at least...20 years he figured since he'd indulged like that. It made him wonder why he had stopped.
Walking up behind Ferguson, he rubbed a handkerchief across his mustache and bottom lip and then folded it up into a square and stuck it back into the breast pocket of his suit. "You can go Ferguson," he said in a low voice. He didn't wait to see if the Security Officer left or not. He walked up to the bars watching Primeaux. "So, you had some questions did you?" He asked the man in the holding cells.

He usually reserved asking his questions in the interrogation room not far from here. Especially for suspect peoples. There was no way Bain was going to give him any straight answers. He just knew it. Locking him up was a big power play. He was holding authority over him.
When he saw his Department Head stop at the bars Saul stood up and walked toward him. Stopping just short of the mustachioed man. His complexion looked better compared to the times he saw him down at the Gala.
"What're your plans with my division?" That was his original question that he wanted answered in his outburst in the Atrium. "Why are you axing the Underage Magic Restriction?" It didn't make sense. The kids were stuck at Hogwarts currently, allowing them to use magic outside of school but forbidding them to come home from the Holidays? Merlin only knows what's happening there now!?
Then it occurred to him. He was so determined now to ask his questions. "Do you have Milo Jordan in a different cell?" The young Games and Sports employee was the most vocal between them both, but his concerns where no different than his own. Perhaps Ronan was still on his way behind Goldwasser?

Entrancing enchantments, eh? Seems as if poor Minister Hollingberry is under Ms. Rosier's spell. Quite literally.

"Mm, I see," she murmured, taking a moment to look over the parchment before pulling out her wand to cast and heat water into one of the teacups on the coffee table. It was tea time after all. "I do understand your concerns," she added oh so sympathetically as she pulled out her special blend of leaves and added it to the cup. "But Charles, you must know that they are not loyal to us. Nor are they loyal to the future of wizardkind." Certainly he saw that there were a few willing to undermine their efforts, even if such traitors had been handled since then.
She left her wand on the table as she picked up the cup, not needing it for the next part as she had become so exceptionally adept at entrancing enchantments that she was able to cast them both nonverbally and wandlessly. "Look in my eyes, Charles, and allow me to relieve you of your concerns," she began in a soothing voice and stirred the tea, the spoon clinking against the rim in a rhythmic ting, ting.
Once she was certain she held his rapt attention, she began to wave her hand in a subtle yet focused manner as she repeated a familiar phrase. "This is for the Greater Good. This is for the Greater Good."

At the moment, however, it was all he wished to do - call for his Senior Undersecretary - as an impending feeling of dread ate away at his intestines. Or perhaps it was simply a matter of indigestion. It was remarkably easy to find outlandish excuses to dismiss his sharp intuition these days.
Visibly uncomfortable, and upon unbuttoning his scarlet jacket with golden buttons as though doing so would help him breathe more easily, Charles shook his head in disagreement and parted his lips to offer his rebuttal. This, of course, required that he acquiesce to dear sweet Alphonsine's and meet her bewitching gaze. It was the polite thing to do, especially as Minister, to hold eye contact during a discussion. His brow was firm in protest, his eyes steady and a little more vibrant in color than they had been recently, the Minister was suddenly rendered immobile from the first two gentle tings of her spoon against the tea cup. The movement was subtle and began at his shoulders, but soon the man was swaying in sync with the brunette's movements...with the spoon. The color from his eyes faded while they widened and almost appeared to have clouded over for a few moments.
"...for...the...Gr---e---a---ter...Good..." he repeated almost questioningly, his eyes widening and watering somewhat as his arms fell limply to his sides. "...for...the...Greater...Good...for the...Greater Good....for the Greater Good...for the Greater Good..."

But he wasn't hungry and didn't have an urge for one beyond habit. "As for what your children are doing there? I would presume they are getting a high quality education. So he didn't want to conform. "Pitty." He re-buttoned his jacket as he prepared to leave. "I was hoping that someone with your background would know better. It appears I was mistaken." In fact it was only Primeaux's pure-blood status that was keeping Bain from more drastic measures. "Perhaps a night or two in the cells will help you change your mind." Although he doubted it. It seemed he had a night preparing termination papers ahead of him. Good thing he had gotten an energy boost.

She checked her watch and then the door, it would be time for them to get started.
She shuffled her papers and looked around making a mental note of the ones not here. There was nothing more important than what she was about to say, so employees better have very good reasons.
"We will be getting started. In front of you are packets that I had put together of all the new regulations and rules that our department will be handling. The first is apparation license. Only pureblood status witches and wizards can apply and take their tests without doing extra paperwork. Halfbloods will have a different form to fill out and they will need to be approved through me before moving forward. There will be no muggleborn approvals."
She looked up from her papers to make sure everyone was on the same page and seeing that there were no grey areas in this, the rules were the rules.

He liked to believe he was still doing well at work, even now, even with everything going on around him, when certain underground activities were of utmost importance. Regardless, Kaiser could admit to himself that he had off days when memory and attention failed him, and his head began subtly pounding once more.
This past week had been swerving in and out of the 'off' category. Mistakes had been made.
Mistake number one: failing to tell Mr Hollingberry about a meeting which had, days ago, been rescheduled for that very afternoon. Mistake number two: not realising this until about five minutes ago, when he was confirming a private appointment several levels below. Kaiser was not looking forward to having to admit to a lapse of concentration (and was considering ways around such an admission altogether), but Mr Hollingberry did need to be kept in the know about his own meetings, and so Kaiser headed straight to his office to do just that. In his haste, he failed to do his customary visual sweep of Level One, to search for Rosier. The potential Alphonsine issue was, uh, potentially still an issue, and Kaiser always felt a little more at ease when he could at least pinpoint her last known location. Maybe, on some level, he knew where he'd find her, even without checking his watch.
Once through Fletcher's workspace, Kaiser had already opened the door and crossed the threshold of Mr Hollingberry's waiting area before he realised he had committed mistake number three: totally neglecting to knock first. It was so unlike him that he stopped in surprise, and didn't immediately offer an apology despite seeing the Minister sat right there. On the couch. Sitting... swaying... staring vacantly at... her.
... ting, ting ... For the Greater Good ... ting, ting ... For the Greater Good ...
Kaiser did not stand there staring for long. Maybe he didn't understand in specific detail exactly what was happening here, but he had a brain in his head, was already gripped by suspicion, had enough of a need to help or protect Charles somehow, and more than enough of a sudden blaze of fury through his entire body... all of which enabled him to act.
Once the pieces clicked more or less into place, Kaiser ceased to think. He drew his wand, dropping his small stack of parchment in the process and letting the door fall away behind him, and aimed it straight at Alphonsine Rosier.
"Stupefy!"

Of course, she would prefer that he actually did see how wonderful their vision was and would be for the entirety of wizardkind of his own accord, but his resistance did little to help proceed them forward and entrancing him was a quicker and smoother solution.
Keeping his unwavering gaze, she continued to repeat the mantra until he was chanting it along with her. Alphonsine was about to subliminally infuse another Neo-Alliance message into the Minister's mind, but a sudden sound of something dropping onto the floor behind her startled the woman out of her focused spellwork and she turned to see what it was. Or more accurately, who it was.
And just in time. Her eyes wide upon seeing the Minister's assistant interrupting them with his wand pointed at her - and clearly being found out in the process - she dove for her wand on the table, barely just missing the stunning spell that hit the couch she was sitting on. "No!" she shrieked, the desperation clear in her voice. "You won't stand in our way!" Adrenaline coursing through her veins and emotions running high, Alphonsine, from her awkward spot half-kneeling on the floor, slashed her wand and cast an impulsive nonverbal spell at him, the first that sprang to her mind as a streak of purple flames shot out towards Kaiser's general direction.

His head slowly turned to look at the personal assistant, almost as if he did not recognize the young man, and as soon as sweet beautiful Alphonsine was yelling...Charles was standing.
Standing and reaching into his own pocket and removing his wand from its holster.
"...for the Greater Good...for the ... Greater Good ... for ...the ... Greater ... good..."
And then he was pointing it directly at the personal assistant, eyes still with a sort of vacancy, and took a step forward to square up from his seat. There was no acknowledgement as the purple flames shot forth and towards the dark haired boy, and the Minister continued to stand as still as a statue...save for a tremble centered in the man's wrist and a certain kind of shimmer to wash over his eyes that pooled in the corners. The tremble became more prominent and his back teeth set back on each other as he continued the mantra.
Kaiser had never duelled before. He'd avoided it like the plague while at school, though not because he doubted himself. Even without the practice, he'd felt sure that, if push came to shove, he could do what was necessary. If Kaiser had the chance to think now about anything other than the present moment, it might have occurred to him that he was about to find out just how well that approach had worked out for him.
He might have had time to fire off another spell while Alphonsine yelled, using the seconds to his advantage, but Kaiser's eyes had instead landed on Charles again. The man who had done so much for him the past couple of years. The man who had taken an interest in his life and even his happiness, and had been close to a father figure, or at least as close as Kaiser had been willing to allow. The man who had a wand pointed directly at him. Kaiser stared back at him, eyes wide, almost pleading. "Sir-"
Before he could say anything else, the slashing movement from Alphonsine commanded his attention. "Protego!" he cast instinctively, even as he tried to dart out of the way. Though the shield charm took the brunt of the purple flames, Kaiser still felt them make contact with his head and body in a blinding blow; the force plus his attempt at dodging knocked him off his feet with disorienting sideways momentum. He landed in a heap on the floor with a grunt, but started scrambling to his knees before even being totally sure of which way was up. Adrenaline kept him moving, alert, fighting.
Except that when he raised his wand again, Kaiser didn't point it at Alphonsine, but in the vague direction of the door he'd entered through only moments ago. "Bombarda!" The incantation was heavy on his tongue, but the door, and a small part of the wall, nevertheless exploded outwards into Fletcher's office in an almighty blast. A distress call he didn't have time to put any more thought into... in the same way he didn't have time to think how this situation might look to anyone who might respond.
That move alone had been a sacrifice of time and potentially even of self, allowing too much opportunity for Alphonsine to attack again. Kaiser would have screamed for Fletcher - the one person he desperately wanted here right now - but there was just no time, and who knew whose aid Charles might jump to at any second, and he wasn't going to just give up like that. In one wild movement Kaiser swept his wand around to point it Alphonsine, mustering up a non-verbal Incarcerous with all he had, though he was almost certain he would be far too late.

For now, it was only that of his own dueling with that of Alphonsine's...the sweet serenade of a brighter future for all, free from persecution and his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren with privilege that he could never have fathomed as a young wizard. No need to disguise. No need to feel ashamed for being precisely what they were...it brought Charles back to his youth and the ostracization his own family had crippled him with in their purist ways, shunning him for his vision of an inclusive future. And so his eyes darkened again, Alphonsine and the echoes of promises of the Neo Alliance winning the battle...
...but not the war.
So Alana's plea went unacknowledged, there was absolutely no need to hide anywhere, and Alphonsine's voice and allure continued to dominate his senses...until another cut through it all like a hot knife through butter. The foggy glaze over his eyes lifted for a moment, a moment long enough to focus on Kaiser still on the ground, and their eyes met. Only then did it properly register just where the Minister's own wand was pointed, and his stubby and uneven nails began to dig into his palms. It was a moment that almost felt like an eternity but was truly only the blink of an eye: his personal assistant and budding confidant calling out his name, the plea cut short as a spell struck him, a spell cast by Alphonsine, and then Kaiser's depleted form which resonated with suppressed memories from another time many many moons ago.
And thus a third voice entered the fray in his mind space, concise but poignant and tugging ardently at his heart strings.
Soon a fourth joined, that of Fletcher who Charles too had come to care for like a son, and amped up the volume with the bewildering notion of waking up when his eyes were already wide open. Wider now, in fact, as his jaw clenched as his arm began making short but jagged movements towards the enchantress. Charles count not yet speak, but there was a sort of strained growl as his arm bend slightly at the elbow just as sweet Regina dashed out of his office. Then a fifth voice joining the chorus, properly this time, though it was her touch that opened the door - or at least got the foot in the closing door and kept it ajar. Only Alana's voice calling his name.
Alphonsine's clamoring of Fletcher's name sprung Charles into action and his wand arm broke free of the invisible strings binding him in place and swung around to point to his dear sweet temptress with his teeth bared and beads of sweat trickling down his brow. "Ex--pelliarmus!"
And a scarlet jolt of light erupted from his wand, hurdling towards her, fueled by the voices of his people and his own conviction to protect them. The veil lifted at last.
Which led to everyone Stupefy-ing Alphonsine Rosier...

"You are proud of nothing," she replied to Delyth who thought it necessary to speak up just then. "You live in the shadows, hiding who you really are from muggles." Did she forget there was a secrecy statute? And she ignored the squib, not bothering to give her the time of day. The young woman thought she could relate to her? It was not even close to being the same. She knew what it was like to lose loved ones, her family, because of this. Alphonsine had plenty she could say, but it felt futile at this point. No one was really listening. No one seemed to really understand how important this all was and she didn't know how else to make them see.
Jane was wrong. It might be true that she no longer had the upper hand, but she believed in this vision down to her very soul. She was not merely trying to talk her way out of this. And Jane was so short-sighted. They all were. "I assure you," she told her simply. "If I was trying to flatter you --" as she so crassly described her talents "-- you would be. This is so much more important than you are grasping."
Knowing she was trapped and outnumbered, she looked quickly to the doorway, realising she could not even make a run for it, then her eyes widened as Fletcher barked the order to the rest of them. Alphonsine had no time to even attempt to dodge when she was hit by spell after spell, sending her flying back against the couch behind her, her stunned body hitting the wall before slumping over. She was effectively knocked out unconscious.

Airey nonchalantly slipped the tips of his fingers into the pocket on his blazer where his wand was kept. A threatening gesture? Perhaps. It was difficult to know considering the man's continued vacant expression.
"My inquiry is much more pressing than a lack of knowledge about a plant. Unless you are about to infer that there is a mobile fleshing eating plant on the loose on our level, you will have to wait." There was a bit of an urgent glance towards David with this association, a memory tapped into and, perhaps, exploited. "My instructions come from the Minist------"
And then the department head froze, his eyes wide and fingers clenched with his arms bent at the elbow as though he were holding a large beach ball in his hands. His jaw clenched, teeth grating against one another with such intensity it was a wonder one had not chipped. It was almost as though someone had struck him both with a Crucio and a Full-Body Binding Curse at the exactly same moment. Beads of sweat dotted his brow and in the next moment his lips parted to release a blood curdling scream of pain, terror, anguish. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" The man's limbs turned to overcooked spaghetti and his eyes rolled back in his head as Airey Flamsteed crumbled to his knees, free of the strings that had been puppeting him, on the ground. At the very last second his hands sprung into action and caught himself, palms down, on the floor of the Chamber. Chest heaving and his breath coming out as shallow wheezes, as though he had been holding his breath for an excruciatingly long period of time, he felt like he could actually breathe again.
And then came words that were deliciously his own. For the first time in so long.
Grunting, he pushed himself back on to his heels and lifted his head. First he looked to Adam, who was unlike to be able to see the subtle changes to the department head's exterior (namely that the foggy sheen to his forget-me-not-blues), and then blinked a few times before looking to Mr. Truebridge.
"Alphonsine...Elder Wand..." he breathed out, the words strained and falling out of his lips like a child discovering that they could make sounds through this face orifice, while pointing at himself. "Mirror...prision...polyjuice...Bain...Nero...dead...deathly...hallows..."
