Default NaNoWriMo FAQs

It's November which means... NaNoWriMo! While Snitchseeker.com will be expanding this November to celebrate writing as a whole, whether it be a 50,000+ word piece of fiction, non-fiction or a selection of ficlets or drabbles, we will still be paying tribute to and encouraging our writers participating in NaNoWriMo!

What IS NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo is a non-profit with the goal of providing resources, encouragement and other tools to encourage writers to complete the goal of writing a 50,000 word fiction novel during the duration of the month of November. The first NaNoWriMo started in the year of 1999 and since then every November hundreds of thousands of people join in.

The website can also double as a social media site for Wrimo's (the shorthand term for participants!) and there is a handy word tracker so you can watch your progress on meeting your goal!

Do people really participate in this?

They do! Volunteers with NaNoWriMo even host writing camps across the globe where creatives can get together in a shared space and tackle this project together. Per the stats provided by the official NaNo website, there were 427,653 writers who participated in the event.

Below are the stats quoted from the website found here.

Quote:
In 2021:

• 427,653 writers participated in our programs, including 90,561 students and educators in the Young Writers Program.

• 842 volunteer Municipal Liaisons guided 671 regions on six continents.

• 406 libraries, bookstores, and community centers opened their doors to novelists through the Come Write In program.

• 51,507 Campers tackled a writing project—novel or not—at Camp NaNoWriMo.
But is there any merch?

Absolutely there is! NaNo even has a merchandise shop found here where you can get yourself a cool commemorative t-shirt or a pretty writing journal just for brainstorming for your project!

I don't think I can do a novel, but I want to participate. Are there other options?

Absolutely there are! NaNo is an amazing idea and while there are a lot of people who participate every year, reaching a 50,000 word goal is HARD. That's why Snitchseeker is encouraging all writers, regardless of the length of their project, to join us in celebrating November as National Writing Month! There is also the NaNo Rebels, a group of Wrimo's who choose to participate but deviate from the designed 50,000 word fiction by either focusing on a different type of project (non-fiction, screenplay, etc) or just something shorter. While completing your own NaNo Rebel project does not earn you the accolades on NaNoWriMo's website, we will still be giving you major kudos over in our writing motivation station!
