Noltie's Botanical Novelties
|
For Kath & Valerie! <3 Working as an Astronomer in the good ole USA certainly had its perks. However, it seemed that Jeremy Elijah Dawson was having a midlife crisis regarding potential job opportunities. He had made the trip {thank you, Apparition} to the United Kingdom for a few job interviews, which he thought went rather well. Should he be successful, did he want to move here? Did he really want to leave his twin sister and extended family behind? Would his wife and three children want to? Or perhaps Apparition would continue to be the biggest help in commuting. Those thoughts would have to be dealt with later for a glance at his watch told him that he was running late on returning home. How had he lost track of the time? Before departing from the UK, Jer wanted to take a few presents back for the wifey and for the sister. Plants made great gifts, yes? Noltie's Botanical Novelties had caught his eyes; how could the shop not when it reminded him somewhat of a forest with all that greenery. The temperature indoors was certainly something but the smells? Jer was immediately attracted to the heavy soil-y scent that loomed. As for the abundance of flora here? How was a man to choose which to purchase? |
heeeeeeeeeeere we go lol Quote:
To be fair, she was always in a mood and not because of some technicality in which a person always felt something. Valerie Gray was perpetually in a sour to foul mood. If anything, today was amplified thanks to one (if not the most) insufferable of co-workers. The former Wampus had, however, temporarily rectified the situation and so as to not repeat previous missteps was keeping the jar containing a single cockroach on her person - in the pocket of her brown apron with a sunflower shaped pocket and with sufficient air holes punched into the lid. That was not to say she was smiling, a smile was truly a rare occurrence for the pale violet eyed woman, but she was slightly less irritated. Just do not utter the word 'wifey' aloud and she would likely remain a frosty neutral. There was a reason her position in Noltie's had been shifted to plant wrangler, after all. A crate of young flutterby bushes levitating along side her, Valerie noted the man as he perused the shop's offerings but opted not to disturb his thought process. She was just here to deal with the flora unless otherwise prompted. |
Couldn't resist with the wifey thing :3 SPOILER!!: Valerie, who was quite the champ during IMPS <3 Help. Jeremy needed help. Cleary plants were still not his forte, and had always picked up roses for Aurora. Sunflowers had been his go-to for Samara but he figured it was time he changed it up. Surely his wifey and sister were absolutely bored by his choices by now? Jer squinted in every direction, looking for someone who perhaps worked at the shop; it hadn’t even dawned on him just how comfortably he had adjusted to the scent of the place already. Oddly enough, he felt more calm and felt less urge to scramble around getting things done as was his daily habit. Anyway. There was a woman with some… whatever those bushes were called. Jer bustled over, asking himself in the process why she looked so familiar. Where was it that he knew her from? Was it traveling for work? University? “Hi!’’ Jer offered her a smile but tried not to stare as he worked his brain into overdrive trying to place her face. “I was wondering if you might be able to offer any suggestions. I’d like to have a plant each for my sister and wifey but I’m quite unsure of what to choose.” |
meanwhile in a spot close by This. is. Unfair. This. is. Cheating! Though to be fair, Curtis was warned quite extensively about his helpful behavior. Smiling in her face, insisting on trimming the branches and such, most importantly, invading her space to do such helpful tasks. He was a good little Clerk and the best employee. Well, that was his version of the story of events. If only he could see, instead he could feel himself be jumbled about in a case that hit him on all sides. Let me out! What could be thought of as screaming would fall upon unknown ears, for the language his new little antennas could only make little scratching noises.. if one's ears were strong enough to hear. Ahem. For he was in a dark but safe place, for now, as time out. Carry on beauties. |
For Sarah/Patrick Dahlia had not been to Diagon alley since she had been at Hogwarts many many years ago. She moved to France right after leaving and had only been back to visit on a few occasions. She had just recently moved back to London. Today she is doing some shopping for her flat. Browsing the little shop looking for what would be good houseplants and potentially fresh potions ingredients to cultivate for her personal use and business venture. Yes, the move back to London was hopefully full of new opportunities, beginnings, and friendships. |
SPOILER!!: the two, current, scorns of Valerie's existence <3 Call her beauty to her face and she may just very well forget to release you from your mason jar next time, Curtis. No doubt there would be a next time. Attention cast steadily ahead, Valerie began to poke at the soil in the various pots before her to check and see if they had been properly watered as instructed (they had not) and gave her wand a flick to summon the watering can off to the side already filled with water and topped off with just the right amount of apple cider vinegar and sugar to give these flutterby bushes the boost they needed to endure the inexperienced hands that fell upon them here in the shop. Moving a few of the pots aside to make room for the new arrivals while the watering can glided about showering each plant in turn, she managed to withhold the groan that yearned to be released when the customer spoke to her. And said that hideous word aloud. Pet names of any sort were horrendous as far as she was concerned. "That would depend entirely on the caliber of there herbology skills and experience," she replied rather dryly though with some effort to put on a sort of customer service voice. It was usually for the best that her expression remain in its resting disenchanted scowl and pout rather than she attempt to smile - she was known to make children cry when she attempted. "...and where they are intended to be housed." |

He was glancing at one of the plants trying to remember if he needed a second plant of it or if this was one of the ones he needed to replace. He glanced back up recognizing the face of a girl further down the row of plants. No that couldn't be her, he hadn't seen her since Hogwarts and hadn't heard what she was doing recently, but he did know that she hadn't stuck around London much like him. "Dahlia?" his voice wasn't loud but it wasn't a whisper either, hopefully it was her and she heard him. |

Before she could move to the next set of plants she heard her name. She had expected it at some point, being back in London. Some old schoolmates never left this place. Not expecting running into someone already she turned around with a sassy smile. And her mouth dropped. ”Patrick.” Her eyes widened, she couldn’t believe it. Patrick Dooley was her first and only Hogwarts crush. She blushed slightly. ”Wow… umm… how are you?” It was like she was that teenage girl again, always trying to get his attention. But dang she thought he was so hot back then but now, now he was handsome. Like wow. She couldn’t help but to look him up and down. By now she was in a full out blush. Oh goodness. |
SPOILER!!: Valerie, who may scorn Jer even more & one scary roach LOLLLL <3 Jer, of course, was quite oblivious to any… ah… insect problem that the good folks at Noltie’s might be having. Thank the good heavens because he’d run So… the thing was Jeremy was one hundred percent sure he knew the woman before him from somewhere. The issue? Traveling was a thing when it came to his job so the number of persons that he had met in his life was inexhaustible. Had she been on a tour at the Observatory in America at some point? A student at an Astronomy class he had lectured at? Cue a mental sigh. How frustrating it could be when one couldn’t place a face! Anyway. The man tried not to stare at the woman during his attempt to recall how he knew her. “Let’s see. Sam, my sister, likes to photograph plants. The wifey, Aurora, likes to keep them in our house. Sam would keep hers outdoors.” There was a pause. “I’m sorry, but I think I know you from somewhere.” Yep. There it was. Jer just blurted that out. |

Feeling heat creep up his neck and into his cheeks he smiled, "Not too bad, I'm uh, over at the ministry now." He was so shocked to see her, he hadn't been running into many people from his Hogwarts days lately, but he blamed that on working so much. "How are you? I haven't seen you in forever." |
SPOILER!!: and this is why she does not keep many friends XD The insect problem was really the insect's on fault. No need for anyone to concern themselves with the situation. Maybe next time the insect will think twice about their disruptive and insufferable behavior. Valerie was not optimistic, but at least she had her wand to remedy the next situation that would inevitably arise. If this customer said 'wifey' one more time she may be tempted to accidentally drop the jar as a necessary distraction. Between cleaning up glass and catching the roach, there was plenty to cease this customer interaction and pass it along to one of the other part-timers who actually enjoyed speaking face to face with customers. Before she could ask, again, about the two women's skill levels, this...person...was trying to get a little more personable with her and she would much rather focus on the plants. "That may be so," she replied somewhat gruffly while casting a glance over towards flora best geared towards the indoors. "For indoor options, I suggest Dracaena trifasciata, known colloquially as a snake plant, or Spathiphyllum, which you may know as a peace lily. Both are forgiving in terms of care as well as boosting oxygen levels in your home and purifying the air." She would revisit the outdoor plant option in a moment - something that apparently needed to have a certain aesthetic for photography reasons. Which made her thoughts wander to Jerry and which plant he would select and it was a train of thought she quickly wished to get off of. |

”Just moved back here last Month.” It was her first time out in London since then. Surprisingly she did not regret it. She got to see him again. ”What department? I’ll probably see you around if I get hired on.” She grinned, She definitely would not mind getting to see him more. Hopefully she could get a job at the ministry here, she was planning on applying when they started taking applications again. she had been at the French Ministry for a while. |
SPOILER!!: Do your worst, Valerie! *cackles* Yes, well… ‘Wifey’ happened to be quite an active word in Jeremy’s vocabulary. It was a term of endearment he used even when addressing Aurora. Hence, it was common that the nickname was reverted to even when he was speaking to others about his pretty lady. “Both sound lovely.” The Spathiphyllum more than the other, actually. “By forgiving,’’ he continued, eyeing the woman as his brain still raced to place her. “You mean that should we forget to give it water, it would still thrive to an extent?” Please help a man figure things out. “The wifey can be forgetful at times… so uh huh. If that’s the case with the Spathiphyllum, then I think I’d like to have that one, thanks.” Was she now brainstorming about some suggestions for his sister dearest? Jer would not break her focus then. Until he did. “You went to Ilvermorny!” |

He was just about to ask her another question when she mentioned that she had just moved back. He was very surprised but in a good way. "I'm with the DERP, Ecological protection. I started in the greenhouses at first. I've really enjoyed working with my hands." He smiled watching her probably a bit too closely "What are you hoping to do with the ministry?" He had to know, you know? |
Quote:
She let out a little laugh. ” Oh. That’s cool.” She remembered him always at the greenhouses or on the quidditch pitch at Hogwarts. So she wasn’t surprised that he had ended up working there. She glanced up and kind of caught him looking, that made her blush even more. She grinned. Glad she did catch him looking. Did that mean something? ”I've been working in Accidents and catastrophes in Paris. So I hope I can get on at the ministry here.” |
Quote:
He smiled when she said it was cool where he worked at the ministry. He enjoyed his work, he always had enjoyed herbology and the things you could do with plants. He kept his eyes on her face trying to avoid more blushing, although would it be all bad if she noticed? It's not like when they were in school. They're both adults, right? "Oh wow, that's absolutely awesome. I bet you'll get on at the ministry here, sounds like you were doing a great job in Paris." Okay so maybe he didn't know that for sure but he was fairly certain that she was because he recalled her being smart. |
Quote:
She smiled back, ”Thanks that’s so sweet of you to say.” Even though she was sure she hadn’t stopped smiling since she had first seen him. Or blush… all the blushing between the two of them. If someone else had been around them trying to decide on a Shrivelfig or a Bouncing Bulb they probably would have turned around and said kiss already, like people do when watching a movie and it's obvious that the main characters like each other. She bit her lip, still keeping her eyes on him. You know what she was just going to say it. They were both adults now so she might as well. Maybe he didn't realize her crush on him back then.If something came of it, good, if not that was okay too. She didn’t even know if he was seeing anyone, he could have been married for all she knew. ”You know Patrick, I had the biggest crush on you when we were at Hogwarts.” If it was possible for her to beblushing even more she most differently was. |
SPOILER!!: you don't want her worst.../trust/ me XD There it was again. Wifey. It and other pet names, especially 'babe', were among the most innocuous words in the spoken word. Existence, survival, all hinged on separation and unique identity and among those factors was your name. When you first meet an individual, among the first questions one may ask is their name and that sharing could, arguably, be quite the intimate gesture. So why, oh why, would you want to be stripped of that by a person you were meant to have a partnership with? When one began using such saccharine sweet words, it often turned into rarely uttering the other's name and then...well...there was a history she would like not to tread along and relive while attempting to maintain a certain level of professionalism. Which is why her jaw set as she force a polite but tight lipped smile on her snowflake kissed skin - essentially devoid of any warmth despite said smile. "Yes," she confirmed his inquiry before whipping out her notebook and jotting down a note to pick one of those up from the greenhouse outback. "Asclepias tuberosa, or butterfly root, would make a fine addition to ---" Interrupted. Truly, one of her favorite things to be: interrupted. Just ask the cockroach in the jar in her pocket how well she took to being interrupted. Tempted to ignore his recognition of her previous schooling and continue to explain her suggestion, Valerie closed her eyes for three counts while holding her breath before releasing it slowly through her nostrils on the beat of four. "I did." Though her tone hardly shared his enthusiasm. She did not have particularly fond memories from Ilvermorny outside of Kyle and Jesús...and even those were horrendously tempted now thanks to the pompous bronzed Thunderbird. |
SPOILER!!: On second thought, her helping with potted plants is enough xD Babe. Yes. Jer liked using that word too. Of course he only used it with the wifey but there you were. The man would have suggested that Valerie hadn’t been given the proper nicknames by the right person or persons. Such endearing terms only served to remind another that they were loved and cared for dearly. He would be defending the use of sweet nicknames for as long as he lived, thank you very much. Jer thought that Valerie was having a bad day hence the uptight attitude. That wasn’t his problem, was it? Maybe the plant lady just had had it with customers. Maybe he ought to make his second selection as quickly as possible to make a timely escape. Maybe he ought to blurt out about Ilvermorny. Yes, let’s go with that Jer. For a moment, it seemed that there would not be an answer to his question. At the same time, Jer was given the impression that his present company was seeking patience in the brief moment she closed her eyes before exhaling. Surely he wasn't the cause of such actions? “I knew it! I…. think you were two years my junior.” Think was the keyword here. “Jeremy Dawson here. Not sure if you remember me now but it's nice seeing you again!” Oh yes. “You were mentioning butterfly root. I am slightly familiar with that one; rather gorgeous too. Hmmm. May I have one of it?” |
It, truly, would not matter. Words were illusive and the very term 'pet name' sacrilegious to her sense of identity. Jerry, despite all his absurdities and insufferable inaction, knew this of her and it served him well until it had not. But that was no information any customer would be privy to - none were. In any case, she was determined to see this purchase through and thus was was continuing to take slow, deep breaths with her feet both planted firmly on the ground. Perhaps she would not need to use the cockroach prisoner as a distraction, but not because she would not wish to have its untimely squishing on her conscience. It was a matter of principle and that she was the type to see something through to its conclusion once she had begun. "...I do not..." she replied. She barely knew those in her own year, so knowing anyone her senior was almost exclusively out of the question. She was not unaware that because of her Veela-like features, unfortunate showing in the IMPS, and brief stint as an actress in an Indie film that she was known on the surface by many. She would consider this a case of such circumstances and considering his current presence in the United Kingdom could only presume that he too had been stricken by Illvermorny's year abroad at Hogwarts. "Wait here just a moment," she confirmed with a nod before pivoting towards the stock and inspecting the soil in each pot and examining the leaves on each plant to find a suitable companion. |
SPOILER!!: Valerie! <3 Much like that Celine Dion song, it was all coming back to him. Valerie’s frostiness, the determined way in which she took part in the IMPs competition. Jer wanted to compliment her very belatedly on the way she handled the latter but suspected his words would not even have the slightest impact on her mood. He shrugged, his earlier hyperness melting away {it just was possible that Valerie’s personality was contagious}. Jer got the message that she didn’t want to speak about Ilvermorny so he kept his trap shut about it. “Yup, not going anywhere.” Until he got the two plants he would be leaving with, that is. The man started to offer Valerie a smile but she had already marched away. Ooookay then. He was just going to stand here and admire the plants and not be awkward at all. Jeremy was also making a mental note to let the wifey and Sam know of this encounter with Valerie. One of them at least must remember her. |
Quote:
He smiled wide, "I'm sure it's still the truth." He was always honest and he was not going to change that but he liked hearing that she thought he was being sweet. He nearly felt his jaw unhinge at hearing she had a true and proper crush on him at Hogwarts. She didn't say she still had a crush on him, did that mean it was in the past and she didn't feel anything anymore? Cause while he may have missed it at Hogwarts he did not want to miss such an opportunity now. He felt his cheeks redden before he finally found his voice. "I actually didn't know, but you said had, does that mean...." Way to chicken out, he couldn't even say it cause he had been on the verge of asking her for a coffee so they could truly catch up. Taking a deep breath, "No crush or anything now?" He couldn't bring himself to make eye contact with her because he would feel like such an idiot if she didn't feel the same way. |
open post~ Noltie's Botanical Novelties... Daniel raised his head to read the sign. He couldn't recall ever going inside this shop, but it had piqued his interest. He stood at the window, and when he saw his reflection, he adjusted the collar of his shirt before entering. He wasn't just looking around the store; he had plans to buy something. He wanted to give his grandmother a new plant for her birthday because it was one of her favorite things. The problem was... he wasn't certain which plant would be good for an older person who was also a Muggle. |
almost just went with Valerie....but how could I resist? Quote:
Okay, fine, he will get the stupid houseplant and no one better be on his back about it dying on his watch. Stepping into the shop, Atlas did what he could to avoid the one plant wrangler who had a stare that was scarier than the Neo Alliance at times - okay, so that really was not a fair comparison but she was really intimidating and really hard not to gawk at because she was quite striking, and maneuvered about the shop while adjusting his backwards baseball cap until he meandered over to the mundane plant section and found...Daniel Yoon. "Careful, that one will throw thorns at you if you look at it funny," he warned dryly as his hands slipped into his pockets and he rocked back on his heels. |
