Re-Sorting Available for Hogwarts RPers (Closed until next Sorting)
We are happy to announce an exciting new feature available to those members who qualify. For members who have been active in the School RPG for a while and are interested in trying out a character in a new house, a Re-Sorting Quiz is now available. Please follow the link for additional information about the requirements for Re-Sorting, including but not limited to:
No unexpired infractions
Participation in at least 7 terms in the school
Staff recommendation
Re-Sorting will be open until August 22nd and will coincide with future sortings.
Well, as interesting as this sounds, I'd never leave my house no matter what. I can't imagine any other house now even if I got to be a mean green Slytherin. Ravenclaw forever and always!
WOOHOO! I was just thinking how my new character wouldn't suit my beloved Hufflepuff house... it's a shame though, I'll have to really think about this. Have been a Hufflepuff for 6 years now!
This is very interesting, but I do have a question. Is this sorting going to be good for only the upcoming term, or is it going to be a forever thing? Because while it is intriguing to play someone in another house, I don't know if I would want to be stuck in that house forever.

If that makes sense!
It mentions up there somewhere that you would need to play another 7 terms to be eligible again after a switch.
edit: found it!

Reading all this makes me sad. As if we were speaking of a new broom or something.

I have always had great respect for the Sorting Hat. That precious, ancient object, by which the founders speak to us.
Unpredictable, eccentric. Speaking the language of the subconscious.
Sorting is an initiation ceremony. Unique.
You turn the hat into an ordinary machine. Push the right buttons and you get what you want.
Wouldn't it be more honest to make the houses editable? Why all those questions when you can order the house you fancy today?

I have a question regarding all of this: You have said that (or at least, I understood that), if a person doesn't attend classes in their character's first year, then it won't count toward their 7 terms. Are you saying, then, that attending classes is the only important part of the RP? What if someone is incredibly active in the RP, but for whatever reason, they just didn't attend classes? Would they still be considered ineligible?
I'm not saying I'm interested, because I'm a creature of habit and I'm not particularly interested in attempting to extend my horizons (I've only got a limited amount of creative juices ), but I think a lot of you know I don't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to attending classes. What if I was active for 7 terms, but I just didn't have the time to attend classes or do any of the homework/take exams? What then?
It's a great idea... quite original, I actually haven't seen it on any of the other sites that are around the place... I probably wouldn't do it, but even if I'd have to wait to get sorted for the first time!
Jimbo will set his turtle loose on you. { The Farley } "That's trademarked, don't use it."
I honestly thought that we were always able to do this. I guess not. So this is new, then? The expectations are exactly how I thought they would be.
It's kinda crazy to see all these admins switching from a house they've been in forever. Especially since they'll have to carry out that new house for another seven terms. Quite the dramatic change.
I don't think I could ever leave Slytherin though, even if I was eligible. I signed up for this site with the hopes of being sorted into Slytherin.
But then again, I seem to come up with Gryffindor-like charries...hm.
Well, I'm only about to enter my fourth term so I shouldn't even bother to start thinking about it now. I've got a load more planned out for my current Slythie charrie.

O_o
I think that's a very good point. I mean, user-wise it should be permanent, right? Because we can only ever be true to one house but I think for our charries we should be able to change houses.
Thing is, even though being able to edit your house as you please would be nice, having to stay in one house for at least seven terms is more of an opportunity than you would think. And being able to change that house and stay in it for another seven terms is even better.
For example, if you were originally sorted into a house you didn't want, you'd now have to make a charrie that is suitable for that house that you wouldn't have ever created had you gotten the house you wanted. And you could have loads of fun with that charrie and end up being grateful that you got sorted into the house you did. So it gives you an opportunity to RP out of the norm. But then seven terms is a long time and maybe you would like to try something else, so this re-sorting is a good idea as well. And it gives you another seven terms to...expand your horizons.
But if you could edit your house whenever you please, not only might it make things very confusing, but many people wouldn't think much about RPing a charrie in a different house, which can be a lot of fun. And I'm sure there are many more reasons that I can't think of right now because I'm half asleep and I need to get to bed.

Exactly. Look at our profiles. What do you see?
User name, house, and then, down below, in a small font: RPG name. I always thought this had a meaning.
I am aware, I am speaking as a hard-core non-RPGer. But still.
I, Taxus, am a Slytherin. And I have to admit, I will never accept someone who changed their house as a fellow Slytherin, Renegades.

Who are we actually talking about?
You know, the more I think about it, the more I get the impression that this is some kind of a consolation prize; for those long time members who never got a badge, never became a professor, etc.
And I really ask myself if it's worth to wreck a principle like the uniqueness of the sorting for the sake of a handful of bored RPGers.

Mhmm. To say it the other way round: someone has a limited imagination and tries to solve this problem by changing the rules of the game.
Do you remember your own sorting?
We all were newbies, really thrilled, impatient. Childish, in a way. Innocent.
Offering that calculating way of sorting just kills that innocence.
That's what makes me most sad.
Kind of pointless, all that rambling, since we're not allowed to talk about Magic, here at SnitchSeeker. Because, that's what it is all about. Magic.
[/myblabla]Sorry, had to, in my eyes, this is a violent act and it disturbs me deeply.
(doesn't really expect an answer)
Heh, you know, there's that question, always the same. Why no poll? Why do you never ask us for our opinion.

Good grief Alex! You practically wrote a novel!!
I personally would love to get re-sorted because I actually cheated (sorta) so I could get into Slytherin. Not that I don't love it, but I wish I'd have answered them more truthfully.

Unfortunately, I think you're sort of missing the point here. The sorting exists as a function of the RPG, although all members are encouraged and welcomed to participate. Some people will take the sorting and will consider themselves as they answer each question, but we find a great many people who take the sorting do so with a specific character in mind.
It stands to reason, then, that people who are sorted using a specific character will want their next character to be sorted. It doesn't cheapen the experience for you or for anyone else because their decision to re-sort is solely their own and reflects on their individual experience on this site. You choose not to re-sort, and that is fully your prerogative.
I guess it is also your prerogative to say you 'will never accept someone who changed their house as a fellow Slytherin', but as you claim to be someone who does not play in the RP and the site welcomes them as new Slytherins, I'm not sure how your militant stand will really affect what really is the personal decision of individual members.
Giving people the option to re-sort isn't the same as mandating it, so I'm not sure what polling would have accomplished. Those who want to do it are welcome, those who are not... need not do it. No harm, no foul. You've made your opinion abundantly clear in multiple posts, and now you're sort of denigrating into name calling that is unnecessary and pointed. If you want to pursue this line of discussion, my inbox is always open. Let's leave remaining discussion in this thread to those who are yet to comment or have something new to contribute.

Such a cool new idea!!! But.... I would never abandon my love for Slytherins and the color green, even if I DID hate it for the first few months I was in it. If I get super active again and get tired of it I may want to do it in the future tho...
