Default Diagon Alley Questions

Not sure of the rules? Need a hand figuring out what you are and are not allowed to do? After you take a look at the Diagon Alley rules thread, and the SS Site rules, if you still have questions about the Diagon Alley RPG, please feel free to ask them here and one of the Diagon Alley Shopkeepers or an RP moderator will answer it as soon as possible.

Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Do you mind explaining a bit more by what you mean by a link is broken? Are you being redirected to the forums page? Or is it something else?

Hi - this has probably been asked already, but do I absolutely need to go to Ollivander's? I did go to Ollivander's in Pottermore, and I am prefectly happy with my wand - but since I am a muggleborn first-year I wouldn't have one handed down or something...

I guess I could take the quiz for fun and then just choose which one I want to keep?

tuskel/Iris,
sincerely

Hey there. Welcome to the RP, and to answer your question, no. You don't absolutely have to "go to" Ollivander's. It's just another location where you can RP your character, and it's always fun to play out getting your/your character's first wand.

Some people just make up their wand characteristics, though. It's entirely your choice.

Tegz: Not to mention we have our own wand sorting quiz with 40 different wood possibilities and 16 different cores. You're totally welcome to make up your own though, keeping in mind if you did our wand quiz as your RP character the wand result would be tailored for your RP character rather than generated for you as Pottermore is.

So I was wondering....remember that time when DA held a wizarding carnival just before school term 29 started? Were the threads from it deleted? Because I couldn't locate it in the archives.

It's not so much of a question that I have but more of a pricing discrepancy with the prices of the Brooms at the Quidditch shop in Diagon. In PoA when Harry receives the Firebolt, they were discussing who could have got it for him and Ron says maybe Dumbledore....Harry says, "He wouldn't spend hundreds of Galleons on me." (Pg. 223 in the US version). The price of the Firebolt 600 in the quidditch shop is 7 Galleons and 4 sickles (which in US currency would make it $53.29 and in UK pounds £35.67. The top of the line racing bikes cost anywhere from $300 to $12,500.)

So my question is...how is a top of the line racing broom that is at the 600th version that cheap?

I don't mean to offend anyone at all...I just know how much the site prides on being as canon as possible and...the pricing of the brooms is way too low. A training broom I could see being 7 Galleons. But a Firebolt 600 and the Twigger 101 for 12 Galleons that is for people above a certain age...It doesn't make sense.

Which also means that the pricing for the Quidditch supplies and Balls...and pretty much everything is off. Because if we look at the prices on Pottermore the books are anywhere from 1 to 40 Galleons, the most expensive book being "The Official Guide to the Quidditch World Cup" priced at 39 Galleons. (They don't have Quidditch Through the Ages....idky). Also, this would make practice robes in USD $12.87 and in UK Pounds £8.41. Practice uniforms for any sport, counting pads, shoes, helmets (if needed), proper clothing, and socks, etc., can be in the $500 (+ or -) range depending on brand and sport.

Again...I really don't mean to offend anyone I just wanted to ask why the prices are so low when these things are meant to be really expensive according to canon?

I got the info on conversions here.

I don't have a complete answer for this right now, I'm sorry. But I will edit it here when I do, which will hopefully be in the next day or two.

You are absoltly right. Snitchseeker PRIDES itself on being canon and having canon information. But what you're forgetting is that this site's RPG prides itself most not on JKR's canon - as brilliant as it is - but on SS canon, things that the members themselves have come up with to enrich our RPG world, such as the bowling alley or wizarding universities. Not everyting we do here lines up perfectly with what our HP world creater has written.

Sure those prices are lower than in the books, but remember this is roughly 80 years after the last battle in our RPG, so it can't be expected that the prices would remain as they had been back in the 1990's. The prices we have now are ones that, prior to opening this DA forum, were looked at and discussed by the powers that had been. Should I, Brigette, or the current shopkeeper feel the need to change them, then we will. As of now we don't, but we do appreciate your concern and appreciation for JKR's canon.

There's issues lately where people can't access certain pages, like the mods can't access the Signature submission thread

I found if you go to who's posted in the thread and click on their name and find their (your) post you can view the thread if that helps

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

You can start RPing anywhere and everywhere you'd like! There's no set first place and you aren't limited in how many places you can play your charrie so long as you keep the timelines straight and don't have it being your charrie everywhere at once. Just figure which RP happens first, second, third etc and you should be all set

You can post in the shops if you'd like to have them begin school shopping or you could have them try making friends. Completely up to you and you can do them both!

A question about ollivanders and the wand quiz. I see the RP is closed for ollivanders but the quiz is still open. should I wait for ollivanders to open ( i assume it cant be long now because the current term is coming to an end) RP my character there and then take the quiz? or can i take the quiz first and RP once it opens?

You can generally take the quiz now, it stays open because obviously ministry charries aren't limited by the school term I don't think Kerri will mind you doing the quiz now for the upcoming summer RP... just put a little note in the comment section that you're waiting for the RP to be open
