Robert Downey Jr. plays big shot lawyer Henry “Hank” Palmer, who leaves Chicago to attend his mother’s funeral back home in Indiana where he winds up having to be the defense lawyer for Judge Joe Palmer, his stubborn father who gets charged with murder. The plot twists do keep this a pretty good mystery down to the wire, and the cinematography is spectacular. However, if you’re looking for Downey to actually branch out character-wise, like he did long ago before the
Iron Man movies – then this movie probably isn’t for you. On the other hand, if you’re looking for Downey to play the same type of character he has for the past decade – cocky, sassy and rude – then this go ahead and check it out. Although, you might be better off sticking with
Iron Man, as it’s a better movie overall.
The Judge is in theaters now.
