Grimoire (Black Book of Potions) Next to the counter, stands a tall pedestal. On it is a very ancient book: a grimoire or a black book of potions. It was put there by the former shopkeeper, Abraham, who has dedicated his life to sharing knowledge. The book is made of strong, dark brown leather. A simple silver fastener is attached the side of the book to keep the book firmly closed; but not locked. In order to ensure that no one would destroy or steal, a series of spells were put upon it. Everyone is welcome to consult it. No customer should expect anything from within it. If a customer opens it, he or she will notice that everything has been handwritten. Abraham had taken a great deal of time putting this together and each subsequent shopkeeper including Nigel has painstakenly taking care to continue the tradition. Feel free to chat about what you read and take some notes. |
Skirting around the drama near the front of the store, Elinor quietly slipped in and approached the grimoire podium. She had used it once or twice before in her comings and goings, but today, and for every day after this, she used it for a normal reason. She wore a red dress and white, low-heel shoes. In the bend of her left elbow, she carried a small striped handbag by the strap. Her red-brown hair was toussled by the wind, but it fell neatly behind her shoulders. And her eyes, for the first time in a very long time, did not reflect a single sleepless night. Her lips had reverted to their natural vibrant pink. She was vivacious again. Flipping the old, delicate pages of the book, she found the answer to her question. Bundimun secretion. Turning her head to check if the store supplied it, her gaze fell upon Nigel, who she had encountered last time she was here. Before he could look up to catch her eye, she looked back down, turning the page again a few times. |
Cassie had of course decided to put off her actual potions shopping for the day because quite frankly the store was creeping her out and she didn't want to walk around with a bunch of weird smelly things while she shopped for clothes and all that stuff. She instead wondered the store until she came upon and odd ancient looking book. Just by looking at it, she could tell that it probably smelled musty and was to be read with one's nose far away. She looked around to see if anyone was there and since there wasn't she approached the book and skipped through a few pages. It actually contained some pretty cool stuff from what she could make out from the funny looking hand writing."This is pretty cool..." she said thinking out loud. |

But she'd put it off long enough. Bounding into the store, she swung her hessian bag around idly and gazed at the weird jars disinterestedly. She heard the girl speak and turned, wide eyed at her. Was she talking to her? She bit her lip and tried not to look skeptical. "..Yeah, I suppose it's cool.." Who thought frog's brains were cool? |

She spun around quickly when she heard a voice come in behind her but did not open her eyes. Great, she was so busted. Cassie Storm was caught flipping through a potions book and saying its content was cool. Social suicide, she could already hear the whispers and mean comments. Well she figured she probably should take a look at the person who was about to ruin her social life. First she peeked through her left eye then her right, then she opened her eyes and blinked. "Err yeah...yeah, it totally has like a shampoo formula in here and stuff you know...thats..umm..thats whats so cool." And she blocked off the book with her body, just in case the girl decided that she wanted to see the non-existing shampoo formula. |
After seeing that her charge, Violet, had indeed gone up to pay for her school supplies, Miss Jane Howard stepped aside to where the Grimoire laid on its tall pedestal, and began quickly turning the pages, one by one, looking for something very particular. |
Young Vlimia Maze rushed through the crowd to this book, the book her brother said he had memorised. Yeah, right! she thought That book is the size of a paving slab!He probably just wants me to be scared. But, even the fact her brother had warned her the things in that book could give her nightmares, her curiosity won in the end. Flipping through the yellowed pages, she came across something very, very odd. All of a sudden, before she could think about it, she heard a gasp she knew all too well. It was the gasp she had heard when she broke that inkwell at Gringotts. It was the gasp she heard when she spilled chocolate cake on her silk white dress. "Vlimia Maze, you come here right now! Her mother said in that tone that meant she was going to get in trouble. But Vlimia didn't care. She quickly read the page she was looking at and went to her mother. "I'm very dissapointed in you, Vlimia, I thought you knew better..." Blah, blah, blah Vlimia thought. Brought disgrace to the family, blah blah blah. It was just a book! Her mother Dissaparated out of the store with Vlimia in tow angrily. Horcruxes... Vlimia mused Are interesting... |
When Isabelle got to the apothecary the first thing that caught her eye was the ancient book full of potions. Isabelle nearly ran to see it as she quickly pulled out a quill and parchment to take copious notes from the book before she moved on to her shopping. She was determined to find some healing potions in this book. That way she could use them when she became a healer. |
Well would you look at that, thought Harlee as she was turning to leave to shop. She could have sorn that the pedestal wasn't there before when she had entered. She walked over and tentitively opened the latch wondering if this was one of those things that was to be "seen" and not touched, like a museum. Oh, Interesting... Harlee said under her breath as the flipped throught the pages. Maybe I will take some notes. She brought out her new quill and notebook nd coppied down a few potions that looked usefull and/or clever. |
Taylor saw a black book. Hmmm, I heard about that book before. I wonder what's all in there. She smiled in delight, she loved potions. Taylor walked over to the book and opened it to read some of what was in it. |
